POY Candidates mentioned so far Scoring

St. G Hyland 29 (9 games) Record 6-3
Smyrna Matthews 24.9 (8 games) Record 7-1
Cape Robertson 23.3 (7 games) Record 5-2
Sanford Davis 19 (4 games) Record 1-3
Caravel Parker 17.6 (5 games) Record 2-3

If u ask anyone who was Delaware POY in 1997 nobody knows. If u ask who player of year 5 years ago probably here crickets. Right now only 2 of these kids are looking at full rides, I would like to see them all signed to full scholarships. From the looks, only davis and hyland are projected to benefit from the game. Everything else is symbolic tittles or stories for old men.

All 5 of those kids listed will play basketball collegiately and most likely on scholarship

Couldn’t agree more about symbolic titles. Couldn’t DISAGREE more that only 2 of these kids will benefit from the game. Benefit from the game equals a free education or reduced cost of education. It’s all about the degree. Doesn’t matter if it’s a D1, D2, D3, NAIA bachelors degree, a 2 yr JUCO associates degree or 2 yr JUCO followed by 2 years at a college / university for a bachelors degree. All 5 of these players and more will “benefit from the game”. 4 already have full ride offers.

In the end when basketball is over it doesn’t really matter if you were D1, D2, etc. At that point you’re just “stories for old men”.

Your right, I wasn't thinking the other levels. Robertson, Okoyo, and Matthews are 2018 kids. I was thinking most 2018s have signed letters of intent already. But I forgot many kids hold out in hopes of D1 offers which is dangerous. The issue with Delaware basketball is nobody respect it nationally in terms of recruiting. Basically unless kids are getting recruited through AAU coaches assume a kid with great stats in Delaware is the result of poor comp. This is an area where parents and kids have to be realistic with scholarship offers and realize if D1 is not banging on your door halfway through senior year, time to consider other options before those opportunities are gone.

Correct AAU is the way... But there are lower levels...
