Sussex Tech, CR, Appo, St. Es quad scrimmage at Sussex Tech. 10am start Saturday August 17th

I'll be at Howard/Delcastle/Charter tomorrow because it's closer to my house and I want to get some practice in with my new camera.

@ Eden Park - never been there -is there parking available?

I missed this yesterday, sorry about that. That was my first time at Eden Park in years today and was surprised at the field improvements. Maybe Howard should consider a home game or two there.

Impressions - Howard has beef on both lines, but can be had with the pass. Also, Karvin Reeves might be one of the best backs in the state in terms of being under the radar. The new QB stands tall in the pocket, but will need some more work heading into the regular season.

Delcastle moved the ball pretty well and was active on defense against Charter. Charter's offense is going to have a hard time moving the ball this season.

I think I remember reading that Eden Park would not be regulation size, so all they could do is practice there. It would be nice if they could play there. As it is, they are team No. 3 at Caravel this season behind the Bucs and St. Elizabeth. Plus, the Sals play a game at CA. Howard has three Thursday night games.

Getting to Caravel from Wilmington and points north on a Thursday - or any weeknight, for that matter - is about as much fun as a colonoscopy.

The Howard facility at Kirkwood Park is the solution. Perfect location -- contiguous to the school. Good traffic patterns for ingress and egress (whatever the hell that means). There is no need for lights...if Howard has a big event (a la homecoming) they could do an evening game at Abbesinio.

Also community youth league FB could be played here.

What gives???

According to this from WDEL about Kirkwood Park/Howard

"Needing to wedge it into a footprint that's surrounded by Stubbs Elementary, Howard, and the Brandywine Creek, the school plans to build about a 70-yard-long field, which is too short for a full-field football or soccer game"

So Eden park is a full size field but not howard/Kirkwood :(

THAT and a group of people who use the park were not happy about Howard wanting to tear up the entire park for a stadium. Something about East Side being left out, which is weird because Howard has always been a part of the neighborhood, BUT...I'm going to leave it alone.

anyone go Sat to scrimmage at Caravel? I was down the ocean hun. so couldn't go
It was pretty boring. SC looked good vs Caravel and Red Lion offensively and defensively. Caravel had Potter running the ball most of the time for minimal yardage when I thought they would air it out with Potter and Earl as a new duo threat, but they must be saving that for the regular season. Red Lion struggled, but I think that would be expected.

Did Central look good as in dominating fashion? Or they did enough to look good against two Division 2 teams to where they should look good?

I saw Tech has taken on the mantra "Road Warriors" seems fitting 6 of first 7 games on the road including starting out first two weeks with two 2hr+ bus rides to Owings, Md and Washington, DC... ugghh

Thing is if they survive those trips, they'll be good and battle-tested come mid November, which is more than some of their opponents might be able to say.

The Sals- AI scrimmage was not much to write home about. It was very short. Each team ran 20-25 plays from scrimmage (like 10-10-10-10, etc.). Sals could move the ball but AI got off some nice plays. Only one score...Sals on a like 35 yard TD pass. AI had a nice interception at the goal line. No visible uniform numbers...

There were officials and the QB's were off limits. My sense is that with a blazing sun and 95 degree heat it was cut short. No injuries seen.

The joke was that if this were in the George Glenn era...the Sals would have stayed and played an intra squad scrimmage and would have run wind sprints when they were done.....those days are gone, my friends.

(My sense is that AI will be tourney bound, again...Sals will miss those 5-6 seniors more than some people realize)

Ches I didn’t make the scrimmage because of work reasons (in the process of changing jobs) but was told that each team did 2-3 drives and then it was called quits. That it was hard to tell anything between either team, and that A.i. had about 20-5 kids total. How accurate is that?

I’m sorry, but I can’t see a 20-25 man team be tourney bound. Your half your team if not more would be playing both ways. Unless those 20-25 kids are legit all stars, its just hard to imagine, not impossible

Gotta remember HS, Division II has two extra spots and not a lot of talent spread out. You can probably count 4 absolutes in D2 (Woodbridge, Friends, Tower, Delmar) and the rest is up for grabs. They might not be the top seed as they were a year ago, but I think AI makes the tournament as probably between a 5 or 7 seed.

To be honest, idc what Tech deems themselves, but the true “road warriors” this year is Sallies. At least Tech has a home game lol.

And you couldn’t be more right. After posting that I tried to think of someone that should be, and all I can think of is Howard, Archmere and Caravel. So they could snag that last seed.

Fair point on AI's squad size. They may have had 35 tops. As you move down to Division 2 the number of total players on some schools has gotten frighteningly sparse. With that the injury factor on one or two kids can be a killer. I am still going to pick AI to make it to the dance. Though I am still befuddled by their tourney opening loss to the Hillers last year. It was a bad weekend for the Blum bros.

I think a lot of us (this poster included) underestimated Tower Hill, and as someone who has been an ardent critic of their scheduling, they shut a lot of us up last year. AI having to give up home field didn't help either.

True...but that is making the assumption that the Stubbs building is still going to be there in a couple years.

You still have Delmar that high after the amount of losses they have? I think them and Central lost their core talent. I would like to see them both still do well, but the amount both teams lost has me questioning a bit

I never underestimate Dave Hearn, his staff, or the kids at Delmar. Howard would've been an easy homer pick, but I need to see them when it counts. Same for Tower.

Delmar will make the tourney by process of elimination. Woodbridge will blow out every henney south opponent this season. Delmar will struggle with the recent loss of talents due to academic reasons.

I see what your saying but when you look at it Sals home games are at Brandywine and AI. One at Caravel. All venues are close enough all the Sals fans will come they will likely have far more fans than the opposition so they will be like home games just not at Baynard. Sals also travels way less this year than in years past.with the exception of the one in Philly they travel to Appo, Smyrna, St Georges and St Marks

I get what you’re saying as far as miles goes, but, the feeling of never playing in YOUR own stadium is a nasty feeling. Home games are always better because you have the home fans behind your back. I think kids play with a little more “up” when they are on their own field

Lake Forest will make playoffs. They return a bunch also. They are big and that option still presents some problems.
