Gate and Chill....and anyone else who post their rankings....where would you put your teams if it were in Tiers? For example.....these are mine....(again, this is all preseason, teams are subject to move around the board every week)

Division 1
TIER 1
1. Salesainum
2. Hodgson
3. Dover

TIER 2
4. Middletown
5. Smyrna
6. Sussex Central
7. Sussex Tech

TIER 3
8. St. George’s
9. Appo
10. William Penn

Division 2
TIER 1
1. Woodbridge
2. Friends

TIER 2
3. Tower Hill
4. Howard
5. Delmar
6. Caravel
7. Archmere

TIER 3
8. Laurel
9. St. Marks
10. Brandywine

The reason I ask, is cause I’m my opinion, it would be difficult for someone in TIER (X) to beat said team in the TIER above them. So if we had to classify them as far as the amount of talent level on the team. If that makes any sense?

Bold prediction with St. Marks and Laurel. I would have placed Lake forest and Brandywine as the only tier 3 teams. Maybe move Archmere down a notch after losing Moyer.

I can understand where you’re coming from, but Archmere has been a solid program for a few years now, I think I will find a replacement to come in and not miss too much.

Lake forest I do think belongs on the list. That is one team I forgot, and they impressed me during their 7on7 games. I may change my rankings and take St. Marks out and throw Lake on. But it’s a preseason ranking so I’ll stick with it for now and try again Week 1.

I think everyone is ranking Hodgson way too high. This team lost a significant amount of seniors last year. CJ will be fine but he will be scrabbling most of the game the first few weeks. It will depend on how fast Hodgson’s offensive line can give CJ some good pocket protection. Hodgson will make the playoffs but as the number 3 or 4 seed.

They lost a lot of their athletes, but Hale and Ames are a dangerous duo, and Hodgson does bring back a solid offensive line, and the line backers may be better than they were last year. I still think it will be Sallies and Dover in the Final, but both of them will have to get through Hodgson, Middletown, and Smyrna to get there. It won’t be easy, but it can happen.

For now, I will put Hodgson at 2. If they lose to Dover I will flip them. Then they have a chance to redeem themselves Week 3 against Middletown but if not, then you you’d be right, we all ranked them too high.

Mine would not be far off from this, I may stand alone on this but I think Hodgson lost some key players to Dematha and Salem... 1st team all conference players and I think it may hurt them a little, I may switch them to tier 2 for either Sussex Tech or Central. For D2 I would put Caravel in tier 1 & Lake forest in tier 3 instead of Laurel.

How did Caravel all of a sudden become this powerful D2 team?
I know it’s a lot of hype on the one kid, I’m just riding the wave lol Caravel gets their shot to be considered a top tier D2 team week 1 vs Woodbridge! I know Woodbridge lost a lot last year but this year they are loaded again. Wouldn’t be surprised if they went 10-0. That game should be interesting!

CA brings back allot plus a couple of transfers. A Sr QB who has improved every year. Of course Potter and Earl who are both stand outs on both sides of the ball. A solid supporting cast in the skills the question marks are the lines. Not sure what they have there.

I’d be very weary of not having Middletown in your tier one... besides that’s pretty spot on list. I think caravel could wind up being the best team in D2 also.

You picked the same as me. Dover and Sals in the final. Sals has been struggling with talented and well coached teams below the canal as of late.

Honestly, I could have put Middletown in Tier 1. I chose not too. Not that the kids read this or the coaches but if they did I wanted it to fire them up. If Week 1 they come out and win big against Smyrna, they are Tier 1. But right now I’m staying humble, and I’ll put them on the line of Tier 1/2.

I’ve been debating changing My Rankings a bit. But I did them, so I’m sticking with them til the games are played. I don’t think Hodgson is the 2nd best team in the state. I do think Henry could be the best QB, but right now I’d go Sals, Dover, (and is he open to swapping hodgson and Middletown) Middletown and Hodgson. BUT like I said, I’m trying to be humble. Let the chips fall where they may. I’m also not trying to be a homer.

When I do my rankings and picks and breakdowns, I try to leave my “rank and “alumni” out of it. I’ve seen Middletown enough to know how good they are and how good they can be. They have some things to work on right now, but I’m not saying they can’t be right there with Sallies and Dover.

I question Dover so high. Last years success was the threat of the dynamic duo. Batman is gone not sure Robin can carry the load alone. Peace is a fast back you can’t win in D1 with just a good back. Dover has a history of under achieving with the talent they have or perceived talent for that matter. They are going to need a diversion from Peace to have success otherwise defenses will just key him. He is not a Reeder who can just plow. He needs space Space is created by the D having to defend other options. Personally I don’t have Dover that high being they have never shown the propensity to play team ball. I easily have Central and Middletown above them

Dover lost 2 games to one Team last year. Sussex Central the Division 1 champs! SC killed Sallies in the Championship Game. Dover was winning the playoff game against Central until late and lost by 1 pt. Don't Downplay Dover. Remember the Henlopen Conference has won the Division 1 and 2 Championship THREE STRAIGHT YEARS!
D-1
Sussex Central
Dover
Sallies
Middletown
Hodgson

D-2
Woodbridge
Wilmington Friends
Caravel
Delmar
Lake/Tower Hill
