Let the debates begins. You have 7 weeks to make your case before the Polls go live...

To clear up any confusion this will have two parts or polls. Program of the decade and also a Team of the decade. Team of the decade is one team one year during the decade.

I WOULD say Middletown for D-1 because they’ve been there a lot BUT... I have to go Smyrna for actually winning 3 straight! And Woodbridge for D-2, two rings, and undefeated season and about to get another with another undefeated season. Team of the decade has to be Smyrna 2016...or Middletown 2012...although Woodbridge 2016 team was loaded.

I would say Middletown 2012. No one could touch them. The lines, the athletes, the defense. They beat Sallies by a combined 62-0. Smyrna 2016 is a close 2nd.

Could you imagine if those two teams played each other...game of the century

were doing D1 and D2.. right now I lean MT for POD but if the final ends up HVT and Smyrna and Smyrna pulls it out it would be hard to argue 2 of 7 vs 4 of 4. Even if MT gets there vs Smyrna and Smyrna wins 2 of 8 vs 4 of 4 ??? guess it depends if you value championships more than getting there.

Look at this way if it were coach of the decade D1 it would be Delpercio vs Judy.. not sure I could vote for a coach who lost 5 of 7 Championship games vs one who went 3 and 3 and maybe 4 of 4 depending what happens this year

That StE team had multiple all state guys I remembered. Russell, Modica, Will brothers...McClosky was not the McCloskey who came the following year though.

As for D1 TOD I agree the debate is between 2016 Smyrna vs 2012 Middletown.. and its a good argument for both

I wouldn't consider any of Smyrna's teams to be team of the decade. Smyrna was a one man show for those years.
My nod would have to go to Middletown for their decade long prominence in the playoffs, alongside their many championship appearances, and finally with two championships.
Will Knight was the player of the decade.

I might not have the same exuberance of HS but the 2012 Middletown team was the best team of this decade so far. Their defense was unreal. Their offensive line was phenomenal.

Not true... 2017 maybe but not 2016 and 2015 and Knight didn't play defense..

2016
Henderson 2317 passing yds 32 td passes

Knight 1339 rushing yds 24 td runs
Brown 730 rushing yds 14 tds runs
Henderson 308 rushing yds 3 rushing tds

Knight 737 rec yds 9 rec tds
Roberts 680 rec yds 7 rec tds
Brown 458 rec yds 7 rec tds

2015
Henderson 3297 passing yds 36 passing tds

Knight 2015 rushing yds 33 rushing tds
Henderson 416 rushing yds 4 rushing tds

Ritchie 1181 rec yds 15 rec tds
Taylor 777 rec yds 7 rec tds
Bishop 665 rec yds 6rec tds

Hardly a one man show!

So POD D2 looks between WB and HVT both made it to 3 and won 2 and if WB wins it this year that would seal the deal I would think.

question is if HVT wins D1 do you give them credit for D2 decade in that they went 2 of 3 in D2 got bumped to D1 and wins a ship in the same decade? I think I would take that into consideration

Nice Piece of Analysis

That StE team had multiple all state guys I remembered. Russell, Modica, Will brothers...McClosky was not the McCloskey who came the following year though.
St. E had the 2 Pattons. Then they built that DMA School who took all of St. E athletes.

2010 STM team would beat most of those other teams. They were loaded on the OL/DL and that wins football games. Multiple D1 starters like Quinn that started multiple years for Temple one of the better OL ever to come out of DE.

Smyrna with Richardson and Knight was a beast team.

Mtown many years good.

Decade team to me is Mtown for consistency.
Smyrna as the "team" that has a good three year run.
Single year STM 2010 of Smyrna 2016.

What if Smyrna wins it this year? does that tighten the program decade vote up to you?

Smyrna did bounce undefeated MT teams twice in successive years.

The only other team to win multiple divisions in the same decade is Seaford in the early 80s, so I mean that would put them as a top overall program, no question. I think Woodbridge earned the D2 program of the decade though, especially if they run the table this year.

The 2010 St. Marks team needed a 17 point swing in the 2nd half to beat Middletown. When Wade and Godwin were freshman/ the 2012 team would have blown the 2010 st. Marks out of the water like they did to Sallies twice

Their running game was absolutely unstoppable. They were big and nasty up front and running backs would just stone you on contact. Nothing fancy about those guys. They just man handled everyone

2016 Smyrna and the 2012 Middletown team would have been interesting vs IMG.

2010 STM took Mtown lightly they play that game again they win by 20+ easily.

2012 MTown was nasty.

2016 Smyrna too.

no they wouldn’t have would have. IMG is nasty and recruits it’s just not the same.

Those two teams were great for DE but probably don’t event win PA championship and definitely do t win FL/GA/LA

Neither of those Sallies teams were as good at STM 2010 or even Sallies 2009.

Gotta be Woodbridge

2012 Middletown still beats any team in Delaware out of the water. Give me all your refutes but it’s all he says she says. However, I can guarantee a Mtown win by more than 21+

was a great team. Think Newark i. 90’s with Pressey, Snow, Hari’s brothers etc bears them though

That's a pretty bold statement especially considering they didn't beat every team in DE by 21 in 2012.. They only beat a 3 loss CR team 35-28.. Nor did that 2012 team have to play a spread team that could thrown the ball as equally well as they could run it.... I would say the 2016 Smyrna team would give 2012 MT team fits trying to defend an offense that they would have had no clue how to defend

Unless you watched those guys you can't imagine what they brought to the table each game. Both teams were full of studs. On top of that they were both extremely well coached and played with a chip on there shoulders. No they didnt have a bunch of 300 lb lineman but they were 240-280 across the line and were nasty. The other intangible is the played as a team and not as individuals.

As far as IMG goes. They have a ton of talent I will agree. They were gentleman on the field for the most part. A lot of other stuff is missing. Example:cohesion, culture, and team unity.

that’s how teams like IMG lose - lack of “team” - but ar the end of the day there is most years more D1 talent on IMG then the entire state of DE combined.

848ron

on a side note you seem like a Mtown fan. What do you think of the coaching? Talked to a bunch of kids and parents they were saying it down since Delpercio left. They looked pretty good the past few years so “down” is a bit dramatic imo.
