Program/Team of the decade 2010-2019

on a side note you seem like a Mtown fan. What do you think of the coaching? Talked to a bunch of kids and parents they were saying it down since Delpercio left. They looked pretty good the past few years so “down” is a bit dramatic imo.

I thought Delpercio was a decent coach overall. Players liked him alot. He really looked after kids well. Him and his staff were very dedicated and spent a lot of there own time game planning during the week and off season. I had to respect that. My only gripe with him was the lack of compassion for a kid to play another sport that interfered with the off season programs.

Compared to the rest of the state from what I've seen they are very good. Some of the half-time adjustments seem to be missing from the old days. The line play and responsibility adjustments seem to be lacking compared to the past. Smyrna, Central, HVT, and Woodbridge are on the same level

Is that his record down there? I think he was just at MT at the perfect timing - growing town only one football team and now it’s getting spread more efx

2017: 5-6
2018: 5-6
2019: 2-5

Overall 12-17

The team he coaches and the league he coaches in are all pretty bad teams lacking talent.. Teams ranked in the 7,500 to 12,500 nationally range. His team is ranked 9,137. .A bunch of players who's last name ends with a Z. Good soccer teams down there though. .. Put it this way one of the schools in his league is the Robstown Cottonpickers,,o_O

Orange Grove , TX is a farming community with an ave median income of around 45k per year. population 1300 ish 51.2 % hispanic (many of whom work the farms) and 47% white.. 0.8% mixed of those two races .. Pretty much no other races. I am guessing some of the kids he is coaching have never played football before.. Certainly not the talent level he is used to coaching but hey he lives near beach and I am sure it can be rewarding teaching and coaching kids who work hard many of them probably get up at 4am to do work at the farm or have chores around the house before going to school..(tending to the animals etc..)

The school itself has 545 students (54% Hispanic, 47% white) obviously , like many mid and south west schools they draw from a large rural area outside of the town.

The town itself is very small just a hardware store, barbershop, a couple gas stations, a couple of taco joints, 1 family restaurant, post office and a grocery market. No chain stores or FF joints other than a Dairy Queen. I assume the DQ is where the kids gather Friday nights.. lol.. The older kids who drive I assume drive into Corpus Christi which is about 45 minutes away.. Very interesting small town. I have lived in towns like this before a different world that is for sure. From what I have read Delpercio lives in town about a mile from the school. Takes him 3 minutes to get to work..That makes him happy lol.. I assume Saturday mornings for MDP are something like this

All that said here is the bad.. Orange Groves record pre MDP

2016: 7-4
2015: 10-1-1
2014: 10-2
2013: 10-2
2012: 11-3
2011: 8-4

I have been making excuses for MDP's record and hadn't look this far into it. It seems the town and program are used to winning games. I wonder how long of a leash they give him?. MDP is the AD so that will help.. maybe

Thanks for the insight. I have always respected MT and thier fan base. Along with SMyrna and some down state schools it is truly a town team and thats awesome IMO.

Just bumping this as the polls will go out the week after the finals to stir back up the debate... although Middletown may have just ended the program of the decade debate vs Smyrna.. lol

Not sure what to do with HVT though... 3 championship games and won 2 in D2 and if they win D1 this year as a program that would give them 4 championship games in the decade winning 3 hmmm

I might not have the same exuberance of HS but the 2012 Middletown team was the best team of this decade so far. Their defense was unreal. Their offensive line was phenomenal.
But that D never saw a team that could both run and pass like 2016 Smyrna.

Sals 2013. That team had two players who are now playing every Sunday. That to my knowledge has never happened to a Delaware H.S. team.

I just realized HVT has Henry, Lolley and Ames coming back next year. For some reason I was thinking Henry was a senior.. If they blow through Middletown next week they will definately be in the conversation as far as singular team of the decade.. Loaded everywhere and have blown through their schedule pretty much beating everyone by 2 tds or more.. It might hurt them as far as voting as we won't have a full history of their key players high school career or college and beyond like some of the other teams we are discussing.. 2019 HVT doesn't really seem to have any weaknesses other than "maybe" being able to be thrown on which MT will have to do to win Saturday.

Henry's parents were smart and reclassifying him in middle school. I am surprised that more parents with children who are naturally gifted in athletics are not reclassifying to be a 19 year old senior.

RLCA Blackson and Smallwood

To the best of my best knowledge 302 has 8 players currently "playing" in the NFL

Godwin- Middletown- Tampa Bay
Savage- CA- Green Bay
Nichols- HVT- Chicago
O'Neill- Sallies- Minnesota
Reeder-Sallies- LA Rams
Blackson-RLCA- Houston
Smallwood- RLCA- Washington
Harmon- Caesar Rodney- New England

let me know if I am missing someone

If Colby's back gets squared away...he has a shot at being an NFL linebacker or safety.....then that would be 3...

Everyone seems to focus on the skill positions, but HVT will also be returning both tackles and the left guard. From the games that I have seen this year, they are the best O-line in the state imho. Having 3 big guys back will go a long way. Plus #8 DB/WR is only a freshman and he is a difference maker. I think their struggle will be on the defensive side of the ball. Lots of seniors to replace.
