I'm sure there are many rivalries in the state. But if you live in the Georgetown area, there is no bigger game on the schedule than Sussex Tech playing Sussex Central. Two schools in one town that just simply do not like one another. The talk on social media has already started and that was before the week even started. Win, lose or draw the game will be intense and the crowd will be crazy as these two teams fight for bragging rights. Should be fun.

Laurel vs Delmar is a historic rivalry.
No, Laurel vs Seaford is a historic rivalry, starting in 1920. They met twice each season from 1920 to 1946 and once each season since. It is the oldest public school rivalry in the state and some say one of the 10 oldest public school rivalries in the nation!

To be a rivalry one team has to have a chance at winning because its a rivalry game.. That rivalry ended..I doubt anyone is getting juiced beating Seaford except maybe Red Lion or St Andrews,, 1920 to 1946 are you kidding me lol

A rivalry in my mind, a heated game between two affiliates who stand an equal chance at winning.

As old as the seaford-laurel game is, seaford don't stand a chance and hasn't for years. It's not a rivalry anymore. That belongs to laurel-Delmar.

CR Dover no doubt but not what it used be many moons ago
And this makes zero sense because both schools have numbers and athletes,, they just cant get them on the field,, I also think you are going to see many CR and more so Dover zoned kids choice to Smyrna if this continues

Youjustme...:eagle defense.....is there a rivalry feel between Dover and Smyrna? The game will be a blow out I know this, but between sallies and Caravel and Smyrna and Dover I'm debating where to go Friday night. If I didn't have work at 6 am Saturday I'd drive down to see tech and central but that's not in the cards

No rivalry in essence. Smyrna is going to play hard, as they always do. Judy is a Dover grad, however.

Based on the common opponent Laurel and the polar opposite outcomes, this Central vs Tech game could get ugly. It'll be chippy without a doubt.

There seems to be somewhat of a rivalry feel between Dover and Smyrna just because some of the kids live within a couple stones throw away from each other. And Dover often displays little respect to Smyrna. But to be honest, I think that Smyrna has issues with most schools in several sports. Part of it is the cohesive, "us against them", community spirit in the town. Being the northern-most school in the conference may be a factor. I don't know the history since I am a Milford grad (and despised Smyrna for years). I think the "cocky" label for Smyrna over the years is just a reflection of the community attitude and support for athletics. You go to some games and matches and Smyrna will have more fans as the visitors than the home school.

With no disrespect intended, Sussex Central's primary rival is Indian River, dating back to the consolidation and the formation of the Indian River School District in 1969. Sussex Central (Georgetown / Millsboro) always felt like they were the step brother of that deal for many years. I know, I lived it and I played it. Again with no disrespect intended, it is hard for Sussex Tech to have a true rival due to their school / players not having an allegiance to a town. Georgetown is simply the location of the building that the school is housed. Their primary rival is Polytech, although there hasn't been a decent game between the schools in years. From another perspective, Everyone in some way or form could consider Tech a rival due to the multiple towns represented on their roster, but for the most part I don't think that's true. There are some victories that are sweeter than others, and mostly it has to do with recent history rather than past history, but we shouldn't overlook past history either. Laurel was on the short side of the beatings several years in the Seaford rivalry. Don't think for one minute that the coaching staff, players and fans aren't happy about their current success, or take it for granted.

CR is one of, if not the biggest school in the state. It's a shame that they can't produce even winning records. Haven't done a whole lot since that 2008 State Championship team. Dover though probably has some of the best athletes anywhere, they are typically just undisciplined and can never put it together. 3 Head coaches in less then 10 years, I want to say 2-3 AD's. It stinks for that community, especially considering the school they just recently built.

Yes Indian River has traditionally been the rivalry for Sussex Central but for the most part the games are never close. This extends to basketball, wrestling and anything else they compete at. I understand the rivalry bc it is the same school district. Now lets talk about the present time. You must first attend a SC/ TECH football, wrestling or boys basketball game. There is a difference to these events. Gametime friday is 7 and you better be there by 6 to get a seat. Both student sections will be in rare form and the atmosphere is second to none.

Let's just say I've been to quite a few SC / Tech football games, up close and personal. But I respect your opinion as I hope you respect mine.

I was thinking the McDick RamLanders or the McDick HighRammers.
Nothing I could say tops the ideas already shared here by my colleagues on this forum.

How would you like to be the McDick Homecoming Queen?..... That would challenging to explain to your children when they are going through your HS yearbook.

I never said that I didnt respect your opinion. We all see things differently. I understand that Seaford and Laurel are a long time rival, but what is the crowd and atmosphere like when you go to that game? The tradition is great. I hope they play each of for a long time to come. My point was the current rivalry between SC and Tech. When Central plays Dover or CR in football its important bc its a conference game. But when Central palys Tech its much more personal. There is a buzz in the schools. My daughter came home from school on Monday and said "dad its already getting crazy on Instagram." That doesnt happen when SC plays IR and other schools. That was my point. No disrespect to anyone.

When a rivalry has been going on for a few generations then it is ingrained in the community. The old Diamond State Conference and the Henlopen Conference pitted town against town. Representing a real geographic area even adds more to the rivalry. When I was a kid the PS duPont vs. Wilmington High game was great. Played FB on Thanksgiving morning. It generally represented people from the North side of the Brandywine River against people from the South side of the river.

Most of you guys are too young to remember those thanksgiving rivalries.

Go Dynamiters! Go Red Devils!

Well put stripes! And until Laurel beats Seaford at least 83 to nothing a lot of long time Laurel die hard fans will not be satisfied and you know what I am talking about!

With rivalries, you can take the records and throw them out the window, but unless the ST/Laurel & SC/Laurel games were complete aberrations, we're talking about a 8.5 touchdown differential. Emotion is one thing but I don't see it overcoming 8.5 touchdowns. I'll take Central 49-20.

in order for it to be a rival both schools must see it as that. To most Sussex county schools Tech is a rival because of the students that left. There is only one school that I believe both schools see as a rival and that is Tech Cape. you see it in every sport, you throw records out the window.

Since the late 1990 Laurel vs Delmar has to be one of the best rivalry games in the state.
People get a little nutty down here during this week…

You might want to ask Tech students what they think.

You are right proudscfan. As a former Central graduate, IR was our biggest rival, but as a Central parent for years now I know that Central and Tech are big rivals in all sports. Tech may have other rivals due to kids leaving their schools to attend Tech but the rivalry and Battle of Georgetown is BIG and BOTH teams feel the same way.

My son is an athlete at Tech. It is no doubt a big game. But ask any Tech athlete what is the biggest game of the year to them.... now as far as Tech students they are big supporters of Tech Athletes... probably have the biggest Student following... so every game is big to them...
