Neither team has played a quality opponent and 2 very different styles of football will be on display Friday night at Baynard Stadium......If Smyrna can pull the huge upset, the stage will be set for them to run the table.

....Sorry Bummy- Sals use the run and clock to slow down the pace and they are just too strong overall. I like the Sals at home and see them winning by 10+.....maybe a late TD to get there OR maybe a shocker and they trounce the Birds'

I disagree Jawnsky. The Smyrna QB is the best since Wade. O'Hara had receivers open all night but their QB Could not deliver the ball. From the reports I have gotten the Slowskys Defense was run on to a fair the well by CR. Statistics will bear that out. Look for Smyrna to have their prime time RB slice and dice the lethargic Clone defense.

Another factor will be crowd support. Look for Smyrna to bring 2000 people to the game. The Salesianum crowd is usually supportive but they sit on their hands.

Smyrna has a solid win and when it is over you will realize that is not an upset.

Can't wait to see how this one plays out... Is Smyrna for real? If they can make a game of it and keep it close, I don't think a loss is really that bad for an up and coming Smyrna program.

NUK... I have to bail on the Delmar road trip... I can't get off work early this Fri.. The owners are going out of town so I wouldn't be able to leave for Delmar until 6,,too late... but I will be able to make this game...

Right Ches... whooda thunk when this game was scheduled it would be this hype... I am looking forward to it...

Interesting how this game came to be scheduled in the first place. Smyrna has a lot of history with MT. Every year it seems they have a game with them (they call it the Harvest Bowl or something), MT wins them all. No Harvest Bowl this year. My guess is that the Smyrna coach, seeking a kind of immortality (witness Bill Billings in 1966) called Sallies for the game. This is a win-win for Smyrna. Win and you are a god forever in Smyrna. People will name their first born after him. Lose and you can claim the big school/little school story and shuffle back to lower New Castle County never the worse for it.

No biggie rr2. I sent you an email earlier. I was kind of hoping the road trip would fall thru as I wanted to go to this game too. Maybe we can hit the road later in the season. See you at the game. Which side are you gonna sit on? lol

This will be an interesting game! It will be Smyrna's first real trial. I like what they are doing in that program and I believe it was said before, the spread is not hard to defend for some, but since it is foreign to many Delaware teams it CAN BE. I'm actually more interested in seeing Smyrna and Dover, because Coach Jones is a spread guy and knows how to slow down and defend that type of offense. I'm very excited about watching Smyrna for the next two weeks.

The side closest to the bathrooms and food :)

I don't know what to make of this game. Sometimes, I think it will be a nail biter with the team making the fewest mistakes coming out on top. Other times, I feel that if Smyrna is clicking, it can get ugly very fast for Sallies. Smyrna has a couple of rounds in the chamber that haven't really been fired yet so if all the playmakers on the team have just a decent night, they will be hard to deal with. I'm going with 30 to 16 Smyrna over Sallies if things stay modest. If the Smyrna offense plays an entire game for a change, who knows what kind of passing, receiving, and rushing yards they can put up.

Haven't seen Sallies, but did see Smyrna dissect Appo and was impressed with how well they ran their offense. Sallies ain't Appo, however. This is Smyrna's real first big-time game in who knows how long. Sallies has been here before, several times. So I'll take Sallies.

I'm not thinking Smyrna is going to beat them, but I believe they are goin to throw something at them that they are not comfortable with or use to seeing. This isn't bottom of Flight A Delcastle or Appo. Sallies is going to successfully score points, attempt to run it down their throats and dare them to stop it. I just like the realistic challenge that Smyrna will have to use as a measuring stick for their program.

I would think that Henlopen teams may have a hard time scheduling northern teams due to Flight A scheduling- there really aren't that many open games/dates that matchup between the two conferences.

Also I would think the scheduling is out of respect for Sallies- Smyrna striving to be a top notch program and Sallies may be easier to schedule (didn't they have 4 out-of-state games last year?) Nothing against MT- they are top-notch as well.

I agree...Smyrna appears to finally be fielding a decent team and the excitement in the school and town is understandable, but they could bring 5000 people, but it should be business as usual with a Sallies win.
I think the bigger question is whether Smyrna can continue this success? With the population growing in the area, and being the only high school they should be ok, can they continue to be competitive, or will they go back to a below par team.

Smyrna is a big school and is trending to be as big as William Penn in a couple of years. There is that small town flavor which is really cool. Smyrna did beat the Sals in Bball 6 months ago.

Coach Judy is an up and coming young coach that will be a force to deal with for a long, long time. This Smyrna team is no accident. They have some real good coaches with college coaching experience and a great background. I would love to see this game. Bottom line - Smyrna is here to stay. This is no fluke.. Now are they ready for Sallies and their history/tradition etc... We shall see. I know this - They will not be intimidated and he will have them ready. Get your popcorn ready for this one!!

Well said, Joe.

If you think about it the Slowskys have to be intimidated by Smyrna. The last time there was a "contact" sporting contest between the schools Smyrna destroyed the the Sals in wrestling 56-5. (In February, the same month that they whipped the Sals in Bball.) OK, I am off this topic. I look for Smyrna to make Sals eat a fifty burger just like in wrestling.

Gosh Uncle Bummy; I haven't seen you this excited since the eve of the 2013 Sals/ MT Championship game when you made that now famous boast to "leave the website forever" if the Sals won. Welcome back.

dt....I think your guess is a stretch at best and I see this as a win/win for the Eagles as well but not for the same reasons...

Its a win for Smyrna because it provides them a great opportunity to play against a very good team and that is a great opp. to see how you measure up etc.
Its a win for All of the DE HS FB community as we are already seeing the excitement it is producing.

As far as your claim of the big/lil school thing.....cant all teams say that now when they lose to the Big S?

dove, you have me on that one. I did sit out for like 15 months......then I realized that I was denying folks the great joy of reading my posts. I promise I will tone it down. The Sals - Smyrna game is just too much of an opportunity for The Bumster.

Please forgive me. I promise I will do better.

I'm glad your back, now I hope they take down that makeshift memorial shrine at the peak of the guinea gangplank.

Great chit chat, I not surprised at all.......read between the lines (=).......

I support the Sals schedule. Awareness has been stimulated on other boards. This past week and this week are good marketing and business trips.

Directly/indirectly DEHSFB/state will benefit from future positive influx. I have seen MT go from less than 3000 to greater than 19000.

I see SHS as the next big thing. GO SALS! = GO EAGLES! = GO DEHSFB!

Coach Joe what number is your kid?

So full disclosure... Kid does not play for Smyrna.. they are in 3rd and 1st grade.. I have know Mike for almost 20 years.. Coached him in college and was one of the smartest/toughest best players I have ever coached. I am a head coach in Virginia and have been since 2004. Coach Judy was my assistant head coach, strength coach and OC when I coached at one of the biggest schools in Virginia. At a young age you could see he had what it took to be a GREAT head coach. I am really just a proud papa who could not be happier for what Coach Judy has done with this program. I am just telling you - this young man has the "it" factor. He is a grinder, exceptionally smart (Was on academic scholarship in college) and TOUGH!!! NOBODY TOUGHER!! I could tell you stories about him that NOBODY out there would believe.. Believe me he is a TOUGH guy and I bet his teams reflect that tough, disciplined attitude.
I do not know much about Sals.. I know about their history from the 70s/80s/90s.. I know coach Glenn and I know they are still a strong program and always are tough. I am not here to predict a win or loss. I will say this though - Those of you who underestimate him as a coach and if you underestimate his program.. You do it at your own peril. I am sure it will be one heck of a game and if my bye week was one week later I would be there to check it out.
Funny comment about having a kid on the team ceech1... funny...

BYTB! Bummy your the Best.

No matter how skilled we become, we still slip with a chisel now and then or get too aggressive with the tablesaw.
If completing a square with dovetails remember to place the joint the right way up.
Many people make the mistake of cutting the last piece upside down or inside out and end up with a mismatched joint. Avoid this by checking twice before you cut.

Bummy rules!!! Might be the most epic post ever!!! Can that ever be topped???

Smyrna has not played a quality opponent yet. They've played 2 teams that haven't had a winning record since DEpreps even started. Thinking the spread offense will beat the sals physical and aggressive defense is foolish. And delcastle was running the ball on the eagles. Can't wait to see and watch what Reeder and the boys will do.
35-6 Sals

The Sals key to success will be controlling the LOS and the clock. Their run game along with sustained drives will limit the opportunities Henderson and the Smyrna O has the ball. When they do have it, they will be pressured to make plays. I look for Smyrna to score some points, but it won't be like the first two weeks. Reeder will be a difference maker, the question is will he be enough?

Eagles over the Boy Pandas, too much speed for boys up north! Reeder can only cover one guy at a time to many weapons ! Smyrna's O Line is solid and run game just too much for the Slowskys!! IMO

I think this is true and I think Smyrna can be run on. But this team is well coached with underrated (by some) size up front to go along with some good athletes.

Yes, it will be different type of competition for them and I wouldn't be surprised if Sallies won, but Smyrna is a very good team. I think they put up 21+...is that enough to win?

Personally I think Smyrna has the offense to beat Sals. If their defense can hold up this is going to be a great game can't wait to watch it tonight! Henderson from Smyrna is a player to watch this year can really sling it.
