Sals vs William Penn

Sesianum steamrolled William Penn, the score doesn’t give the game justice. Offensively the Sals surprised me the most! I was up close at the Penn game, I happened to notice 3 starting offensive linemen sitting out #59 #60 #52, only 2 of the lineman against Penn were starters and I’ve seen #51 rotate in every now and then. None the less they were dominant up front driving down the field every series and the QB Puzzangara had all day to throw. Watkins and Wheatley put on a show with chunks of yards at a time, but than a backup RB #24 came in and scored a 70 yard TD! This offense came back after a beating from M town. Defensively they were stout in the box, but it was another week of poor secondary play BDN really has to switch something up if he wants to be successful. On Special teams, #4 kicked every ball out of the endzone per usual, but missed 2 field goals and made all PATs. After this game, even though it was against a weak Penn team, it looks like the team has given up or is phased after the brutal loss to M town. I WOULDNT count Salesianum our just yet

Aunt Bummy, I was at the game with my son in law. Yes, the Sals beat another young team but the records of the Sals opponents for games they have won is incredibly poor. The Sals victories have come against opponents that are now cumulatively 8-29...

The DB's are green. If they do what they should do off season they will cover splendidly for the next 2 years...like the rest of the youngsters.

The Sals must step up and beat Westminster next week at homecoming. A big win is needed now, They must beat a competent team to prove that they are tournament worthy. I am sorry to have some doubts but need proof that they are ready.

My son in law, told be it was Homecoming. OK, win the damn game and make those geriatric alums happy.

Hope the O-lineman are ready next week. This team's greatness is in its future.

May all your sunrises bring you a great new day!

Sorry bud but they have absolutely no chance against Middletown or Hodgson. Noone improves that much from the Middletown shalacking. It was more lopsided than the final score. Sorry it is what it is

Who has Hodgson played that is even decent besides the first game against central when they were bad and sals crushed them in a scrimmage with 3rd string Qb and Rb.

Sorry guys. I'm not trying to hurt any feelings. But your guys have no pass defense and no passing game. Hodgson would stifle your running game just like Middletown did. For that matter Central would as well. Calling based on what I've seen. Sorry

footballguy. The Sals can show that they belong by beating a quality team. I am hoping that this happens Friday night. Westminster will be very tough.
That game will tell us if the Sals belong in the tournament. Nobody (with the longshot exception of Hodgson) can lay leather on the Cavs this year.

Don't express sorrow about what you think. I have been following you a long time and like me you can try to be humorous but you usually have solid insight. (I don't.)

The Sals pass defense is young and inexperienced....but it is going to be the 8th game of the year so there is now more experience.

That's a pretty interested statement, "It was more lopsided than the final score." I will give Middletown all the credit in the world, played a great game. But more lopsided?? Sals had over 100 yards on the ground, to less than 80 yards for Middletown. 4 turnovers to your 2 and were about even in 3rd down conversions. The only lopsided part was Sals 33 yards passing to over 300 yards for Middletown. Plus, I don`t see where you "stifled" the run game at all.

Hey really think that Sallie's will be very good next year only if they can develop some balance on offense. I'm sure the defense will be stout next year. I looked at your roster and lineups. You guys are very young overall

They had 115 yard on 38 carries. About 30 of them on one run. That's a stifle. It is what it was!

Just wondering about the Sals pass defense. How can you defend a pass when you never see it in practice?
The total yards was 421 to 169. It was 34-0 when Middletowns second team offense fumbled on its own 21 yd line and Sallie's took it in on our second team defense late in the game. Lopsided! Or scorched as they say when you get passed on like that.

This should've been a blown out, actually it should've been a shut out! William Penn is not good this year. If you are using this game to show how good Sals is this year, well you are very narrow minded.

Sorry. That was for Ollie19.

You have to be insincere or an incredible homer to see a silver lining in the Middletown blowout of Salesianum. First off, Middletown - hands down - are the best team they have had since 2012-2013. This is a green Salesianum team that needs to beat a good team. I was not at the MDT-Sals game so I cannot speak with knowledge.

A glimmer of hope is that they have not yet lost at home. Maybe they will step up on their homecoming. I think this is their critical game for getting into the tournament. If they lose at home for homecoming they will lose at Smyrna. Then it's 6-4 and let the mathematicians come to the fore,

They don’t have a homecoming game I believe the homecoming was a couple days ago. Still good point being home and will be a big game. Westminster is probably just as good as Middletown and have some players committed to really big schools.

I don't know. My son in law says it is a reunion weekend. I thought that was homecoming. Hell, what do I know.

Westminster has a long bus ride. Maybe the bright lights of the big city will mesmerize them,

"Westminster is probably just as good as Middletown and have some players committed to really big schools."

This might be an indication of how far under the radar that the program at 18th and Broom has fallen. Don't know whether this is a speed bump or a trending down but hard to believe that only 2-3 years ago a Reeder, Cathers, O'Neal team would have squashed them like a bug. According to Calpreps, Westmin has a power rating of 21.8, about the same as Episcopal Academy. Its enough to make me contemplate becoming a soccer fan.

Westminster's not as good as last years team but the 2 losses they have are to pretty good teams. That whole area out that way except for Urbana these days has some pretty good football.. That said with Sals being home this year I think they have a pretty good shot at this one if they can pass defend any..

Might be more fun watching Sals and Wesminster play Lax... The Etchinson kid is a stud.. might might be worth going to Sals vs Owls game to watch him play would rather see him vs Middletown though

more on him

Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year: Etchison 'an impact player,' all the time, for Westminster

“He’s definitely an impact player for us,” said DeFeo, whose squad won county, region, and state titles this spring. “He was a major scoring threat. He’s extremely difficult to cover offensively. He can go right-handed, he can go left-handed. He’s a strong dodger. He was just hard to stop.”

Etchison came to Westminster from McDonogh School, where he played football and lacrosse. Last fall he took over as varsity quarterback for the Owls — Etchison is 6-foot-4, 205 pounds — and led them to a regional championship game berth.

Lacrosse tops Etchison’s sports list these days, and DeFeo said Westminster benefited from gaining a skilled, versatile player to stick in the midfield. Etchison, who knew many of the Owls players from their rec lacrosse days, said the transition to a new program was seamless.
