Scores Week 2

I still think we are jumping the gun a bit . I believe Smyrna is good but they have beaten Delcastle and Appo .

Stopping the spread in HS is easy.

No it is not easy.. Its only easy when coaches who dont know how to run it and teach it that try to run it

I watched Sallies try and stop Newark in the spread and Reynolds torched them and that was not even a true spread ,, Just watch... Smryna scores on anyone,, what Smyrna is running is not a spread per say its basketball on grass and up tempo..like what Oregon runs..

I agree with 123, let them play somebody first then talk to me. Putting DelCastle and Appo. In the same class as Sallies is laughable.

Huh; that was 4 years ago. Big stat from last night's game. Sals with 563 yards on the ground. Smyrna will get yards but I guarantee they will pay for every one of them.

Really RR? Now Lake is a top 2 D2 team when you were just saying not long ago that Hodgson would win easy over them.... And since when did you start slopping all over Smyrna? Stick to the private schools bud. Anybody that watched Smyrna last year knew they could break out this season especially with how young they were last season.

Also I agree with you SCash, Lake looked horrible last night on offense. Johnson has to adjust instead of trying to run it up the middle. He doesn't have John Flamer to run over people anymore. It's time to adjust. His son is the QB and he rarely throws. Lake does have some solid weapons at WR but they'll never figure it out unless they use them for something besides blocking. Cameron Lewis is a matchup nightmare for a lot of CBs but you'd never know it due to the offense. Ben Moore is a quick little gadget player who would beast if he'd be aloud to run slants from the slot, wheel routes out of backfield, etc. I don't think Johnson knows what a 3-step drop for a QB is. Very frustrating offense to watch but the defense definitely came to play last night.

Congrats to the Senators! Coach Jones and his staff have got to be proud of that performance. Both teams played well, but in the end the Senators came out on top with the overtime victory. It was a huge win and a great game to watch. There were a lot of good plays. Running back Jerry Warren (#4) was a powerhouse with his drives, getting a TD. One of the best QB sacks I’ve seen locally came from William Scott (#58) who blasted through Baltimore Poly’s O-line. But it was when Nadeem Boggerty (#22) fought through and forced that fumble in O/T proved to be the backbreaker to Baltimore Poly.

SJ99 When did I say HVT would win easy over Lake.. anyway I had Lake ranked #2 in D2 before this game... if you have followed this forum over the summer you would know when I started slobbering over Smyrna.. heres a clue.. when I found out about the Offensive change and who was running it...

as for Lake being #2 its more of testament as to how bad D2 is this year.. Lake plays good D.. being there really isn't any good offenses in D2 this year that is enough to win.. We all know HVT starts slow and by years end they become unbeatable.. They have the numbers advantage...

  1. Archmere will beat Howard easily
Milford will beat Red Lion easily
    HVT will beat Lake easily
    Dunbar will beat Dover easily
North East vs Friends will be close but North East wins

Posted on September 5th by you RR... You remember now? Or do you want to still want to try to say you didn't say it?

A good blitz package beats the spread all day long. I'm not saying bring the house. High schoolers are easy to confuse. I'm probably a little biased though. I've really soured on the spread offense lately probably because I've see so many bad versions of it. I did see Smyrna against Delcastle and I thought they ran a very good scheme offensively. Very well coached. That was Delcastle though.

You guys crack me up though. The criticism that gets tossed around about certain coaches. Wilson is the only coach to win a championship at st marks since the 70's and Johnson has basically put Lake back to being respectable . How is that possible since they don't have a clue what they are doing ? Glad I don't coach anymore. Everyone in the stands is a genius. I say that in good fun. I just think it's hilarious.

As far as Smyrna, I went to two of their games last year and it was clear they had talent. Coaching is everything...

And of course now you want to retort to the "D2 sucks this year and Hodgson always starts slow" line.... Other teams start slow too. Lake could barely beat the likes of Mt. Pleasant and Brandywine at the beginning of the season. Hodgson has #s but so did St. Marks last night. That's obviously a problem for Lake when their going up against "borderline" D2 schools.

Fan what Smyrna runs in not really the spread like what you see in the NFL.. Its like what you see in FLA and Tex HS or in college many of the big 12 teams run... Blitzing is not what you want to do.. Its refereed to as basket ball on grass.. Line play is taken out of the equation as the ball comes out right away.. Its all predicated on pre snap reads and getting the ball out in space and choosing match ups.. If you read blitz the ball goes right to where the blitz came from... If run right its very difficult to stop... The down side is you don't run much clock and three and outs can kill your defense.. Obviously the way to beat it is grind up the clock on O and keep their O off the field as much as possible..

I think Johnson has done a very good job getting Lake back to respectable. Believe me, I remember the 1-9, 2-8, and even the suspended season. However, when he faces teams like Hodgson or just really good teams in general, his offense shuts down. I don't claim to be bleacher coach, don't really want to coach but every one can get some criticism. That includes the coaches, players, and the refs. No one is perfect but no one is susceptible to criticism either. Anyone that watches Johnsons offense knows it's really not hard to stop....

Whats your problem? It's just an opinion .. SO I think HVT wins it this year? wow I must be off the reservation in thinking that.. LOL lighten up its not that serious...

Let me take a moment to speak about Freddie Johnson. What he has done with that program is nothing short of amazing. He has built a solid program with some really great kids going through there. It wasn't too long ago when they couldn't even manage to finish the season. While there is little doubt the offense could use some work, they have a solid defense and I think the offense will come around as the season goes forward. They play hard and they play clean, what's not to like?

I don't have a problem except you flip-flop on what you say way too much. I think Hodgson wins it too but really you gave no other teams a chance.

That I can agree with. His teams always seem to play hard no matter what.

That doesnt make any sense.. If they step on the field to play they have a chance... regardless what I say on here...

Grind up the clock and keep their offense off the field is exactly what Sallies will do. Smashmouth football beats basketball on turf all day long. Just my opinion.

I am sure that will be the plan.. I enjoy seeing match-ups like this "old school vs new school" makes for a very interesting game IMO

Billy, NPOA! Please come North Friday Night and watch the Smyrna Eagles play the Slowskys. I look forward to sharing insights.
