SCORES...

Wish I was there...quite a contrast of the defensive play from both teams in comparison to what most on this forum predicted.

Yep Smyrna played the first half very tentative and didn't push tempo and play their game.. Henderson the few times he had guys wide open up field missed badly.. Interesting game

I believe defenserest is the same guy making smart comments about Smyrna and WP when they scrimmaged in August.. Making all kinds of excuses back in August..

So what excuses is he going to make now... WP lost by three TDs... That is considered a romp... Love to hear his feedback and analysis..

I believe I posted earlier I give the coaching edge to Smyrna.. They obviously showed their coaching ability today. Great job of adjusting and winning without your all state QB. Great job of staying the course and finding a way to win!

I believe you are correct.....I would say Smyrna DEFENSEREST its case LOL
WP brought a sledgehammer

So if I told you Smyrna would be down 13-6 at half and their QB was out for the game but said they would come back and win by three scores.. Would you call me an idiot that has no clue what he is talking about? hypothetically speaking of course as there is no way in hell I would say that lol

Undoubtedly coaching play a role in this game

I'm not going to beat DRest up too much. He just didn't realize that Smyrna was a REAL football team and not just smoke and mirrors. It would have been interesting to hear him gloat and say I told you so if WP won. Glad to not have to deal with that so let's all be gentle...use lube for humanitarian purposes! :)

How many victory laps are you going to take? Means nothing! It's city champion that matters. Sallies or Howard at this point still tbd

I would also like to hear his analysis on the "spread offense".. How the BIG BOYS of DE Football would shut it down.. Can't run it in Late November.. Etc.. This guy obviously is not a coach and does not know and has not clue about the offense that Smyrna runs. Scary thing is with their best players returning Smyrna should be even better next year!!

I'm not sure about even better... maybe just as good. Losing a lot of key seniors.

Is it still considered the spread offense when Knight is taking direct snaps in the the backfield with hardly anyone spread out??

Their spread was dead early and really went nowhere until the QB got hurt.

That was old school football winning that game. Blocking and tackling, beating the guy in front of you. Not the spread.

Eagle Control. You are correct. Bummy will have to work OT on this one.

After seeing the Smyrna Sals game 2 months ago I was shell shocked. 56 points on the Slowskys.

Im here to eat my crow . I will say that Wp shit the bed in the second half but defensively played very well their offense struggled today and the defense was on the field too long all second half. Good luck to Smyrna next week and Knight has my vote for all state running back .

SALS have to win out to be in consideration, however if Howard wins??? Dinardo plays first I think? If in a position to get style points for city title, and chance to send Bummy away? Will he?

That's what was so impressive to me about Smyrna's win. I for one didn't think they could line up and go "mano y mano" against WP, but that is exactly what they did once the QB got hurt. I agree with you fof, spread was dead in the first half. Hats off to Smyrna. Can't wait to see what their offense will look like next week. Gotta give those coaches credit. Dooley told everyone stopping Knight was the key...

I think WPs problem was too many guys going both ways and it took its toll on them. It's hard to win when guys are going both ways . Penn came out like gangbusters with that onside kick to start off the game but second half was all Smyrna or shall I say Knight . Was a great game . Next Week should be intresting .

People lose sight that the spread can take on many forms. You have Rich Rod spread of heavy run and Mike Leach heavy pass. Smyrna was 50/50 all year so leaning on Knight when the pass wasn't there was no big deal. Hats off to the OL, Defense and coaching staff. 1 way players are frowned upon in De. They made it work. Kept the D attacking and Knight and the OL fresh. I am very impressed. Looking forward to a great game next week. Good luck Sals and Eagles!

Had not seen either team before today, William Penn let Smyrna of the hook. They had several opportunities to close out the game in the first half and couldn't get it done. What was clear is Penn's line wasn't as good as it was last year. I was impressed with Smyrna's qb. I read somebody said he was off today, I didn't see that. He didn't get much help from his receivers early. Penn's defensive plan A was great. When the qb went down that imo was the turning point in the game. 25 for Smyrna was an absolute stud. Performance today ranks as one of the best I have seen in high school playoffs, that being said Penn never switched their strategy against the spread. Smyrna was not throwing but Penn was playing spread like they were. 25 proved he could not beat them throwing make some adjustments. Penn lost their mojo after Smyrna took the lead. 55 DE from Smyrna was outstanding today. Pressured the qb all day chased down backs and wrs was all over the field. Penn's playmakers made no plays, especially in the second half. Penn's 1 I think had a td pass right in his hands and dropped it. Smyrna's coaches getting a lot of press today they impressed me. They definitely won the coaching battle. Reeder vs. Smyrna #25 looks like a battle of the best two rbs in the state should be a classic.

SCash: " William Penn let Smyrna off the hook."

I don't know if you can let an offense like Smyrna's on the hook. Salesianum was beating them 21-0 in first 5 minutes. Smyrna eventually took a 36-35 lead in the 3rd Q. The Sals managed to come back to win....but the Smyrna comeback convinced me that they were for real.

We will see how the Big S can do with a back up QB. I have to look up how many passes the Sals threw the first game.

in any event, Smyrna's offense is unbelievable.

Wp was deep inside Smyrna territory several times in the first half and didn't cash in that was letting them of the hook. 20-0 or 27-0 is a different game. Play calling was choppy at best inside the twenty a lot of penalties for them in there too.
