5-14-16 Softball



DC) Siera Jones pitched a great game with 5 K’s. Siera Jones and Louisa Re both went 2 for 3 as they paced the Lady Royals of Delmarva Christian to a 16-6 win over the Lady Dragons of Glasgow. (GH) Dymond Taylor went 2 for 3 with a double.



In the AI Dupont Classic Championship game, Samantha Carbonara and the St. Georges defense held AI Dupont to 5 hits a 1 run while St. Georges 14 hits led the offense and defeated the Lady Tigers of AI DuPont by a 12-1 score. St. Georges offense began in the 2nd with Seiverd, Carbonara, Hawke having consecutive hits to lead off the inning with Sierra Vance hitting a line drive double to the fence to score 2 runs. In the 3rd, Carbonara led off with a triple followed by an off the fence double by Krissy Hawke building their lead to 7-0. AI Dupont began hitting Carbonara in the 4th with 3 hits by Kasnic, Stevens, and Waters and a run but the St. Georges defense stopped any further threat with a tremendous defensive play by SS Haley Hearn. 2 more runs were added by the Hawks in the 4th following a lead off double by Rachel Dimarcello and then added 3 more runs in the 6th. Fo r the Hawks, Samantha Carbonara was 3 for 4, Krissy Hawke was 3 for 4 and 2 RBIs, and Rachel Seiverd was 2 for 4. Sierra Vance had 4 RBIs in the game while Mackenzie Porter had 5 stolen bases. Outstanding sportsmanship was exhibited by both teams!



Kaylee Hazewski started the game off with an infield single and scored to put RLCA on the board but the Lady Force of Charter won by a 12-2 score. In the 5th inning, Katie Massih and Taylor Gillis each knocked in 2 runs to give CSW the lead for good. Payton Czerwinski scattered 4 hits while Casey Meyer, Katie Watson and Zoe Jones played outstanding defense.



Concord’s Rachel Pritchard pitched a 2-hitter with 14 strikeouts to earn her 10th win of the season as they defeated the Lady Redskins by a 10-2 score. Offensively, Concord’s Sarah Raab went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and scored 2 runs, Aly Fox went 2 for 3 with an RBI triple, and scored 2 runs, Makaila Gordy had a 2-run RBI single, another RBI, and scored a run, and Shelly Johnson went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and scored 2 runs. Rachel Prichard went 2 for 3 with a double, Eryn Bailey had 2 hits and an RBI, Olivia Christy had a hit, an RBI, and scored two runs, and Mary Plasmier had a hit and scored a run. Conrad’s Nicole Erhart had a double with 2 RBI’s.


CR) Kendall Lewis went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored, Alyssa Ball went 2 for 3 with a double and a RBI as they defeated the Lady Eagles of Smyrna by a 5-3 score. Olivia Faragher had 2 RBI’s and 1 run scored for the Lady Eagles.



Grace Walker went 3 for 4 with an RBI and home run for Caravel Academy as they defeated the Lady Indians of Indian River by a 5-3 score. Madison McGee went 2 for 4 with a RBI for Indian River.



Emily Proffitt was 4 for 4 with 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored and Jen Sieminski pitched a 3-hit 12-0 victory shut out win for Caravel Academy. Hannah Layton and Briana Allen went 1 for 2 for Laurel.
 
Softball



Red Lion’s offense was led by Noelle Holiday who went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI’s as they defeated the Lady Tigers of AI DuPont by 13-0 score. A.I. duPont’s Hunter Christina broke up Gabby Lano’s perfect game with a single in the fifth



Emely Subda pitched a 2 hit shutout. Kylie Quirk and Lexy Johnson both went 3 for 4 to lead DMA to a 7-0 win over the Lady Auks of Archmere. Meghan Bohannon and Maggie Brown each had a hit for Archmere.



St. Georges Samantha Carbonara kept Charter’s offense in check most of game with 8 ks as they defeated the Lady Force of Charter by a 4-2 score. St. Georges scored 2 runs in the first with hits by Taylor Davis and Lia Moore who were then hit in by Rachel DiMarcello and Rachel Seiverd. St. Georges tacked on the winning run in the 3rd with a HR over the fence by Rachel DiMarcello. St. Georges would add one more run in the 4th before Charter came back with a run in the 5th and 6th. St. Georges Rachel DiMarcello ended Charter’s rally in the 7th with a diving catch to end the game. St. Georges Taylor Davis and Lia Moore were 2 for 4 while Gillis and Johnson were 2 for 4 for Charter.



(GH) Morgan Cook went 3-3 with 2 RBI’s and Rebekah Ahlstrom went 3-4 with 3 RBI’s to pace the Lady Dragons of Glasgow to a 12-3 win over the Lady Wildcats of Howard. Morgan Guns got the win and had 7 K’s. (HOW) K. Vickers went 2-3 and T. Foraker went 1-2 and scored twice. A. Stanbach pitched a great game and had 2 K’s.



Kendra Ziemba went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored for Hodgson as they defeated the Lady Patriots of Newark Charter by a 6-5 score. Karri McMillan, Morgan Heritage, and Alexis Heritage also contributed to the win by collecting 2 hits apiece. Taylor Wilson went 2 for 4 with two doubles for Newark Charter.



Madison Watson went 4 for 4 with two home runs a double 5 rbi’s and scored 4 runs, Taylor Colins went 3 for 4 with two home runs and 4 rbi’s to lead Sussex Tech as they defeated the Lady Wildcats of Delmar by a 9-2 score. Avery Wheatley had a double and scored two runs and Madison Lemmon had a double for Delmar.


Softball 5-19-16



The Lady Eagles scored in the sixth on an RBI single by Olivia Faragher, an RBI single by Olyvia Smith, a two-run double by Autumn Wilson, and an RBI single by Kaelyn Press. Wilson racked up three RBIs on three hits for Smyrna as they defeated the Lady Jaguars of Appoquinimink by a 8-1 score.

Jordan Scout had a double and scored for Appoquinimink off a hit from Karina Atanacio. Haley Jones also had a double.



Taylor Pechin was 3-4 with 2 home runs, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored for the Panthers. Whitney DeMora added 2 hits, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored and Amanda Waishes was 2-4 with 2 runs scored. Taylor Pechin struck out 15 in the win. Dover’s Syean Deleon reached on an error in the 5th. With one out Victoria Mitchell singled and Jonice Dyer walked. Deleon scored on a sac fly by Estella Rivas.



Brooklynne Johnson lead the Silver Eagles off with a single in the bottom of the first and would eventually score Hodgson’s only run of the game as the Lady Cavaliers won by a 5-1 score. Jordan Cooke hit a solo home run for the Cavs in the top of the third to tie the game up at 1-1. In the top of the 5th, Kelsey Stuckert lead off the inning with a walk and would eventually score on a double off the bat of Carly Setting. Hodgson rallied in the bottom of the inning as Maddy Craig, Alexis Heritage, Brooklynne Johnson and Kendra Ziemba had 4 back-to-back hits; but, their rally was shut down when center fielder Sarah Adkins threw Heritage out at the plate on Ziemba’s double. In the top of the 7th, Middletown extended their lead to 4 thanks to a 3-run blast by Sarah Adkins.



Danni Adams lead the Cougars offense scoring 5 runs, hitting 2 doubles, a triple, and a home run while driving in 3 runs as Delcastle defeated the Lady Dragons of Glasgow by a 14-5 score.


Holly Brooks went 3 for 3 at the plate with one double, Emily Holmes and Jen Sieminski both went 2 for 3 for Caravel. Jen Sieminski pitched a 3-hit shutout 2-0 win for Caravel Academy.
Jude McGough went 2 for 3 for Newark Charter



St. Georges Samantha Carbonara pitched a no hitter with 8 strikeouts and also was 3 for 3 with a double and triple as they defeated the Lady Vikings of Christiana by a 12-0 score. Krissy Hawke was also 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and a HR while Sierra Vance, Rachel Seiverd, Taylor Davis, and Lia Moore also had 2 hits each. Haley Hearn also had 3 RBIs.



Antonia Browning was exceptional on the mound racking up 11 strikeouts. Rory Kendle got the bats going with a solo homer and an impressive 3 for 3 performance as the Lady Raiders of Ursuline defeated the Lady Vikings of St. Elizabeth by a 4-1 score. Browning helped herself and the Raiders with a homer that gained her 3 RBIs.

Leighton Trimarco was 2 for 3 on the day and crossed the plate to put the Vikings on the board.



Taylor Collins had 2 hits and 3 rbi’s Madison Watson doubled and scored two runs and Sydney Wright had a single two rbi’s and scored a run to lead Sussex Tech to a 12-0 win over the Lady Blue Raiders of Woodbridge. Sarah James pitched a 1 hitter allowing only two baserunners to pick up the win on the mound. Beverly VanBusKirk had a hit for Woodbridge.



Brooke Conaty 2 for 3, Lana Brown 2 for 4, Samantha Freeland 4 for 4, and Emely Subda was 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs lead the way for DMAs 5th straight Diamond State Conference Championship as they defeated the Lady Redskins of Conrad by a 12-2 score. Dara Spavlik was 1 for 3 with a double for Conrad.



Taylor Gillis had an RBI single and scored on an error for Charter. Caitlyn Baxter scored on an RBI from Abby Cunningham. Kiestin Fallers scored on an RBI single by Anna Zebley. Hannah Williams scored on an RBI single by Caitlyn Baxter for the go ahead run. Abby Cunningham won her 13th game of season with 11 strike outs as the Lady Pandas of Padua Academy defeated the Lady Force of Charter by a 3-2 score.

Softball



Madissen Craig and Morgan Heritage collected 2 hits apiece for Hodgson as they defeated the Lady Seahawks of Delaware Military Academy by a 5-3 score. Carina Nepi went 1 for 2, including an RBI single in the third inning. Alexus Johnson had a double for DMA.



Jaykayla Sample was 3 for 4 with a home run and Madison Watson had two hits with a homerun for Sussex Tech as they defeated Penn Charter of Philadelphia, PA by a 5-1 score. Taylor Wroten pitched a three hitter to gain the win on the mound.



Newark Charter opened the game with a 6 hit, 4 run 1st inning to take the lead and defeated the Lady Auks of Archmere by a 5-4 score. Both teams played great defense from that point on with Newark Charter’s Jude McGough and Archmere’s Jocelyn Phillips making great defensive plays. Newark Charter’s Lilly WIngo scored the game winning run after a walk and a single from Taylor Wilson. Abby McCann had 2 hits for Newark Charter

For Archmere, seniors Sami Mengers, Meg Reynolds, and Jess Casino ended their careers by combining for 4 hits, 3 RBI’s and 2 runs.



Grace Walker went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI’s, Emily Holmes went 3 for 4 with an RBI to end the game in the 6th for Caravel Academy as they defeated the Lady Pandas of Padua by a 12-2 score.

Abby Cunningham went 1 for 3 with a double for Padua.



Antonia Browning had an impressive day on the mound with 14 strikeouts registering a Lady Raider 16-0 no-hitter win over the Lady Rams of Dickinson. Grace Nordmeyer was 5 for 5 on the day, while Rory Kendle was 4 for 5 and hit a bomb home run that cleared the fence with 20 yards to spare.

Sarah Gotthold, Andrea Becerra and Ta’shai Haman all won the battle at the plate and made base on balls for the Rams.



Red Lion’s offense was led by Noelle Holiday who went 2-4 with a solo home run and 2 RBI’s. Caroline Paolantonio also went 3-4 with 3 runs scored to pace the Lady Lions of Red Lion to a 16-5 win over the Lady Colonials of William Penn. William Penn was led by Indira Purnell who went 2-3 with a double and RBI.



Amanda Waishes tied the game in the sixth with a three-run shot to left, scoring Morgan Dodge and Taylor Pechin who both singled to get on base to pace the Lady Panthers of Polytech to a 6-5 win over the Lady Eagles of Smyrna. Whitney DeMora was 3-3 with a double, a solo homerun in the sixth, and 1 RBI. Hayley DiCarlantonio followed up Waishes home run with a double, was moved to third on a sac bunt by Brianna Stevenson, and scored the eventual winning run on a sac fly by Hayley Friess. Smyrna rallied in the seventh and loaded the bases, but POLYTECH held on for the win. Olyvia Smith and Autum Wilson scored two runs each for Smyrna. Olivia Faragher doubled and scored a run.

Softball Regular Season Games



5-23-16



Red Lion’s offense was led by Abbey Smith who went 3-3 with a triple and 2 runs scored as they defeated the Lady Vikings of St. Elizabeth 13-1. Zoe Wilcox also went 2-2 with a double and triple and 3 RBI’s. St. Elizabeth was led by Leighton Trimarco who went 2-3 with two singles and a RBI.



Concord’s Rachel Pritchard allowed just two hits and struck out eight through 5 innings to earn her 13th win of the season. Sarah Raab came in the 6th and retired 5 out of the next 6 batters. Offensively, Raab went 2 for 3 with a double, 2 RBI’s and scored a run, and both Mary Plasmier and Abby Casalvera each had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Eryn Bailey went 2 for 3 with a double and scored 3 runs and Pritchard went 2 for 2 with an RBI, and scored 2 runs. Brandywine’s outfielders had several outstanding defensive catches.



5-24-16



J. Groce recorded her 7th complete game giving up 4 hits and walking 2 Dragons as the Lady Vikings won by a 16-6 score. She was walked 3 times. Jada Gillipsie was 1-3, 2RBI’s ans scored 3 runs. Shaina Copeland was 1-1 with a 3 run double and Hailey Henshaw was 2-4, scoring twice and 2 out of her 3 RBI’s came with 2 outs in the bottom of the 5th inning to end the game. Glasgow’s Guns went 1-2 and a 3RBI double and Brogan 1-2 with a double and an RBI. District rivals both showed outstanding sportsmanship.



Kalaysia and Khya Reynolds were 3 for 4 for Milford as they defeated the Lady Vikings of St. Elizabeth by a 14-1 score while Morgan Abbott pitched 7 strong innings. Leighton Trimarco was 3 for 4 and Claudia Roncone had an RBI for St. E’s.



Appoquinimink took a 5 to 0 lead into the 6th. Charter School of Wilmington battled back to cut the score to 5 to 4 as Mallory McCormick, and Lindsay Johnson hit back to back doubles. However, Appoquinimink responded in the bottom of the inning scoring 4 of their own to put the game out of reach. Mackenzie Short tossed a 4 hitter to earn the win for Appoquinimink. Taylor Coleman and Rachel Durham went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s to help lead the Jaguars to victory. Karina Atanacio added 3 hits of her own at the plate and record the final 4 outs of the game to earn the save for the Lady Jags of Appoquinimink as they defeated the Lady Force of Charter by a 9-4 score.



Kaelyn Press went 2 for 3 and scored 3 for the Eagles as they defeated the Lady Raiders of Ursuline Academy by a 6-0 score. Taylor Cappella had 2 RBIs, while Olyvia Smith, Sara Miller, and Madison Drummond each added RBIs. Olyvia Smith and Jessica Anderson pitched a combined 10 Strikeouts, allowing only 5 hits.

Antonia Browning had 11 strikeouts for Ursuline. Gina Hallman went 2 for 3 at the plate



Dover pitchers combined to pitch a no-hitter. Dover was lead by Syean DeLeon who went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and a triple as they defeated the Lady Eagles of DAPSS by a 14-0 score.
This was senior night for Dover. Congratulations to Dover senior Estella Rivas and DAPSS seniors C. Nelson, J. Austin, A. Gusakov and M. Allen.



Senior captains Sarah Brady and Jenna Bessel closed out their high school career with great games as the Lady Tigers of AI DuPont defeated the Lady Colonials of William Penn by a 7-2 score. Brady was 4 for 5 with 4 runs scored and 5 stolen bases and Bessel was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s. Kara Kasnic was also 2 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI’s for the Tigers. Indira Purnell was 2 for 2 with an RBI for William Penn.

Softball 5-26-16



For the first time since 2011, Hodgson is once again Flight B champions as they defeated the Lady Hawks of St. Georges 3-1! Karri McMillan allowed 1 run, while striking out 8, to earn her 11th the win of the season. Kendra Ziemba went 1 for 3 with a home run for Hodgson. Haley Hearn had 2 hits for St. Georges.



Milford got to 10 wins for the first time since 2014 as they defeated the Lady Senators of Dover by a 12-5 score. They battled a fiesty Lady Senators Team the win. Darby Brennan was 2 for 3 with a triple and Bri Cahall was 2 for 4 for the Lady Bucs. Khya Reynolds had a double for Milford while Mo Abbott improved to 10 and 4 on the season.



Payton Czerwinski went the distance scattering 5 hits and striking out 9 for Charter as they defeated the Lady Raiders of Ursuline by a 9-5. Czerwinski and Mallory McCormick had 2 hits a piece while Katie Massih was 1 for 2 with a run scored. Grace Nordmeyer was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.



Hannah Williams, Caitlyn Baxter, and Kierstin Fallers all scored in the 5th for Padua as they defeated the Lady Wildcats of Delmar 3-0. Abby Cunningham won her 15th game of the season throwing a 2 hit shut out along with an RBI hit.

DIAA Softball



Red Lion’s offense was led by Abbey Smith who went 4-4 with a walk, two home runs and 6 RBI’s as they defeated the Lady Vikings of Cape Henlopen by a 14-5 score. Also for the Lions was Caroline Paolantonio who went 2-5 with a home run and 2 RBI’s. Cape Henlopen was led by Kaeli Willey who went 2-4 with two home runs and 2 RBI’s and Hannah Jones who went 2-3 with a home run and one RBI.



Holly Brooks pitched a 3-Hit shut out and went 3 for 4 at the plate as the Lady Bucs of Caravel defeated the Lady Seahawks of Delaware Miltary Academy by a 10-0 score. Jenn Sieminski went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.



Concord’s Rachel Pritchard pitched an outstanding game allowing just 4 hits on the day as they defeated the Lady Cavaliers of Middletown by a 4-1 score. Concord’s defense had a strong outing led by Shelly Johnson who had a phenomenal catch in centerfield followed by throwing a player out at 3rd base in the next inning. Offensively,Olivia Christy led the Raiders going 3 for 3 and scoring a run with an RBI by Abby Casalvera. Taylor Chamberlain also scored a run off of Christy’s first hit. Rachel Pritchard went 3 for 4 with a double and scored a run by Mary Plasmier’s RBI and Aly Fox had 2 hits and a RBI. Middletown’s Katelynn Foraker had a double.



Sussex Tech scored in the third on a two-run single by Taylor Collins, a two-run home run by Jaykayla Sample, and a solo homerun by Rylee Shockley as they defeated the Lady Silver Eagles of Hodgson by a 9-2 score. Shockley also doubled home two runs in the fourth. Madison Watson collected three extra base hits. She doubled in the third inning and tripled in the first and the fourth innings. Kendra Ziemba was 2-4 with a double and an rbi for Hodgson.



Smyrna took a 1-0 lead in the first. Smyrna’s Autumn Wilson recorded 1 of her 3 hits on the day and later scored on one of Appoquinimink’s 3 errors in the first. Appoquinimink answered in the 3rd when Andrea Johnson hit a 1 out single and advanced to second on a sac bunt. The next batter was hit by a pitch and Karina Atanacio followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 1. Brooke Miller continued the inning by belting a 3 run home run to give Appoquinimink a 4 to 1 lead. Smyrna closed the gap in the 5th when Kaelyn Press hit a 2 run homerun. The Jaguars answered in the bottom of the fifth after two Smyrna errors it was Karina Atanacio’s turn. She ripped a line drive home run deep to left centerfield to give a Appoquinimink the 7 to 3 lead over the Lady Eagles of Smyrna. Mackenzie Short earned the win striking out 6.Karina Atanacio went 2 ofr 3 with 4 RBI’s and Brooke Miller went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI’s for the Jaguars. The game ended in fantastic fashion when Smyrna’s Katelyn Press hit one deep to center that seemed to be over the fence but was for not when the ball was brought back into play by APPO centerfielder Rachel Durham and she then threw to second to double up the runner to secure the victory for Appoquinimink.

D I Quarter Final Round The Lady Cavaliers of Middletown on 2 goals 1 each in the first and second half by Rachel Finelli defeated the Lady Eagles of Smyrna by a 2-0 score.



Delaware State Girls Semi Final Softball Contest: Samantha Esper went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI’s, Alexa Proffit went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Grace Walker went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s and hit in the 10th run to end the game in the 6th as they defeated the Lady Force of Charter by a 10-0 score. Holly Brooks pitched a 1-Hit shutout for Caravel.

Lindsay Johnson went 1 for 2 for Charter.

For the 2016 Girls State Softball Title The Lady Buccaneers of Caravel with 2 runs in the first inning behind Samatha Esper and Holly Brooks went 2 for 3 in the contest defeated the Lady Ravens of Sussex Tech by a 2-1 score

Taylor Collins went 1 for 2 with a double for Sussex Tech.
