Bringing this back to the front because we're a month away from practice starting for real.
I don’t know if it was more legend or myth for a young middle schooler like myself, but he is still the best player I’ve ever seen in the state.Mark McClane was a beast.
Yes. Godwin, T reeder, will Knight, is anyone old enough to remember Pedro swann? But for me it’s mclane.I couldn't argue with that thought on McLane as a DE HS FB player. Yet I could name 20 other players that I could understand someone selecting. That is based on their HS play Lone..
Swann, Tucker and Hayman, those 'Jackets took no prisoners!Yes. Godwin, T reeder, will Knight, is anyone old enough to remember Pedro swann? But for me it’s mclane.
I’ve heard Pedro was even better at track and baseball. Maybe the best pound for pound athlete to ever play high school sports in Delaware?Swann, Tucker and Hayman, those 'Jackets took no prisoners!

Absolutely. Poor seaford.Iv'e heard folks give Delino DeShields that distinction. Has to be in the conversation All-American in baseball and basketball at Seaford

Delino DeShields hands down The Best pound for pound athlete to ever play high school sports in Delaware ..... Football, Basketball, Baseball
I can't think of a better all around DE HS athlete than Deshields. He did not play FB his senior year. I saw his last FB game in 1985 when he was a JR. The Blue Jays lost at Glasgow in the semis of the state football tournament.
Great thread and a trip down memory lane for me. I worked my first playoff game in 1995. Wm Penn versus Concord. I worked my last championship game in 2012, Middletown v Salesianum and my final playoff game in 2013 St George's v. Woodbridge at Appo. Father time you are a worthy adversary.
They got completely outfoxed by G-High coach Rene Clements. The best fake punt I’ve ever seen! Went for about a 50 yard TD!I can't think of a better all around DE HS athlete than Deshields. Agreed. Clements won that game by out-coaching Captain Dick. Also agree - best fake punt I ever saw! The Seaford coaches were yelling at their punt returners to get away from it, but it was actually a pass , not a punt. A G-High player just stepped under it and caught it for a TD. Changed the whole complexion of the game. They got completely outfoxed by G-High coach Rene Clements. The best fake punt I’ve ever seen! Went for about a 50 yard TD!

That 3rd down punt trick by G-High was one of the best trick plays ever!I played in that game and Deshields was a nightmare at QB. We could barely get a hand on him. Lots of dropped passes by his receivers and "3rd Down Punt" led to a Dragons win that day. Only other athlete I can think of close to Deshields is Derrick May from Newark. He was an awesome 3 sport athlete too.
