Fire Brian. Keep Chip.

Irish almost choke one away to unranked Florida State.

Bruins beat the #16 team in the country.

Bummy, how did you like that Coan guy. A graduate transfer at that. Looks like he is an able fill in until the Bergan Catholic kid gets to South Bend.

Coan was outstanding. Looking at next year? When is the last time ND started a true freshman @ QB?

One thing about watching FSU. That war chant becomes like torture to the listeners after a short while. The seminole mascot riding a horse is just as stupid. Seminoles were a swamp people and never in their warring history did they ever ride a horse. Maybe they should show the guy astride an alligator. Probably more realistic.

The Seminoles are the only Native American tribe the US could never subjugate. Legitimate badass warriors

If I am not mistaken, the Seminoles were able become very wealthy from their casinos. They were able to utilize the treaties between the US government with their tribes to get around gambling restrictions set up by the state of Florida.

Good for them.

Coan was outstanding. Irish D coordinator is on hot seat for 4th Q meltdown.

Last time from day one was Ron Powlus in 1994. Been a minute. Kid never really had a chance after Beano Cook predicted he’d win two Heisman’s at ND before he ever stepped on campus.

Great recall, Husker. I had forgotten about Berwick’s? Ron Powlus. He now works in ND’s athletic department.

Loved the late Beano Cook. He had one of the funniest lines of all time. When the hostages were returned from Iran in January of 1981, Baseball Commissioner Bowie Kuhn gave them all lifetime passes to their favorite Major League Baseball team. Beano Cook commented “haven’t they suffered enough?” That was a classic line about baseball from a college football fan.

Beano loved the Irish…

Kelly also has the most losses by any ND coach..
Kelly is also 8th on this list in win %

Bib, Thanks for making amplifying the point that I am trying to make.
Ara was head and shoulders above any ND coach since I started following the Irish seriously like 60 years ago.

Kelly been competent but rarely wins a game against a good team when the Irish are underdogs. Yesterday, was a game between 2 teams that should have been rated in the 20's.

Both offenses stunk! Kelly got bailed out by a kick off return and the implosion at the end of the game by the Wisconsin QB.

Cincy at ND next week could be dicey for the Irish. I believe that Whiskey plays Michigan.

At the moment, ND & WI would get handled / pushed around by Arkansas.

Irish are like at the midpoint of their season. Somehow they haven't selected a starting quarterback yet.

Big game Brian won a big game on the road last night that was basically a toss up....I am shocked...

Sources: LSU expected to hire Notre Dame's Brian Kelly as its next head coach

Unreal timing. If the Irish can poach Luke Fickell it will be worth it. LSU has more $$ than brains. I wish him well. He won’t be getting in bar fights like Coach O..

Kelly has had 5 straight 10 game winning seasons but I think Kelly will get eaten alive by the week in week out level of competition in the SEC. It is the NFL of college football.

Bummy is endorsing Marcus Freeman as the new HC. Yes, Fickell will be the obvious pick but Freeman has done a great job as the Irish DC this year despite the criticism he took early on…even from me. Freeman would keep the recruiting efforts going, The Irish won‘t be going to the dance. Freeman will look good on the sidelines when the Irish play in a New Years Day Bowl game.

Matt Campbell will definitely be in the mix. Great young coach. Knows the midwest.

Campbell would be my third choice. After a good nights sleep.….If I were Jack Swarbick, I would tell Coach Freeman. “We are going to make Coach Fickell our first target and you are our second. (Freeman was Fickell’s DC at Cincy last year.) If it doesn’t work out the job is yours. By the way, your salary as DC for next year is $2 M. If Fickell says no you have a 5 year deal worth $25M.“

If that doesn’t work, go to Campbell. My 4th choice is Bob Stoops who can be talked into taking the job.

If Urban Meyer was still retired, I would approach him.

The winner in all of this is Ed Orgeron who will get paid $17M from now until 2025 whether he coaches or not….

Kelly goes from an extension (signed 2020) worth 2.6 mil from ND (plus other deals camps etc.. which double that) to reportedly 15 mil per year for 10 years making him the highest paid coach in NCAA football. Disloyalty always has a price.

The one thing I never understand is hoe coaches bail now. I know it has to do with the recruiting cycle but if a player enters the transfer portal they have to sit out a year, usually, but coaches literally go to work the next day. I think that coaches should have something similar if they leave before their contract is up or if they are fired. Or don't force kids to miss a year of eligibility

I find it hard that Kelly is worth that much. With the type of culture today he doesn't seem like the type of coach a lot players would want to play for. At least with Saban he has the national championships to back it up.

Kelly’s departure is the most disturbing in a trend. No coach has left a school where they legitimately still had a chance to get into the playoff.
For Kelly, this is the 2nd time he’s left at a terrible time. Cincinnati had just been selected to play in their first ever BCS bowl game (Sugar vs. Tebow & Florida) when he bolted to take the ND job.

Why you say that? Kelly isn't a hard ass or anything like that. Many think he is too soft on the players and too much of a "players coach". Players like him and he has had their backs and covered up a lot of BS much of which hadn't existed at ND before , like barfights, academic cheating, crazy catfish stories, the person who died on his watch and that's just the stuff we know about. He will fit right in at LSU lol

Maybe just a personal opinion, for some reason he has always just rubbed me the wrong way. Obviously I have never met the man so it is just some biased perception I must have lol. 150 million still seems insane to me lol

Well he burned a bridge with me when he had the sacred grounds dug up and put in turf. Kelly never was a ND guy and cared nothing for the traditions. His only link is he has a Irish name. It's been about him and his ambitions all along.. F him.. lol

Kelly worked the Irish for pay increases way before the last 5 years. Look the man got beat pretty bad twice by Saban in the BCS. He also lost big to Clemson when Dabo had a healthy Lawrence. He was lucky to beat LSU in a bowl game a few years ago when Miles Boykin made a circus catch and 2 LSU DB’s collided..

I have made peace with my feelings about Kelly but he may get tarred and feathered in the SEC.

If I am not mistaken the Irish open next year at Ohio State and the next week play at Clemson…God bless the next coach!!

Agree about Kelly but that is a little heavy with the turf issue. Hell, the hallowed grounds of Baynard (Abessinio) now has turf.
Peace, gents.

Maybe that is it too. Tradition at schools like that are what makes the program and having a selfish coach just puts me off. And like @Huskerman7 say above he's already done this before. Old adage says, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me". Why did I even quote that I'm not that old yet lol

Bummy was wrong about Irish sched next year. They do open at Ohio State but then host Clemson late in the year. Clemson date was changed.
