top 8 in Each division???? Division 1??? Division 2???? Predictions ??? Who has most talent returning... key players to watch ???

The word on the street is that the Sals will have their first losing team since the arrival of BDN.
I guess the era is over. There have been some highlights and lowlights but they were going to win 70%-80% of their games.

Maybe the FB scholars who populate this forum could explain this one to the old Brown Bear.

Can't speak for Division 2, but I'd say Delmar is the top dog, they return almost everyone. Should be a repeat year for them.

Division 1 it should be another year of the same top teams. Smyrna graduated a lot but bring enough back to compete for another title. Knight is gone but Whaley should hold his own as a replacement, they do lose a lot of the line.

Middletown returns a lot of its core key pieces. Some transfers should make immediate impact, but the defense lost many starters and they only return one starting offensive lineman.

Hodgson in my opinion brings the most back at the division 2 level and if it wasn't for the first two mentioned, Hodgson would be my favorite to win a championship. They were young last season so they made some mistakes but overall gained enough experience to contend once again.

Sallies is sallies.

The QB for penn that started the second half of the season improved greatly. The offense started clicking when Dooley changed some of schemes.

So right now. My top teams are Smyrna, Middletown, Hodgson, Sallies, and Penn. I'm not sure what's going on down south so much but Central lost some talent, so the final playoff team will probably be determined on what Maul does down at Cape.

Delmar does return a lot, including 3 quarterbacks I believe. Will be interesting who plays the majority of the snaps at that position, because I believe 2 of the 3 also play defense. I think the loss of Parker and Phillips on defense will be huge though. Phillips was a terror at MLB and blew up a lot of plays all on his own. Parker had the speed to chase down anyone on the edge as well. Also, the loss of Parker on offense allows other teams to focus on the QB and Dennard more, unless they have some stud FB waiting his turn.

I think the top dog in D2 could possibly be Woodbridge. They return A LOT! Where as last year I didn't think they would be as good, because they lost so much on the OL/DL. This year I believe they return almost every starter on the lines, plus a ton of skill players. Brewer is going to be missed, but they still have Wescott, younger Mosley, Haynes, and Kane

Division 2, Woodbridge returns everyone but Brewer( which will be missed) and had an undefeated middle school team with players that will be on the field, Delmar returns most as well, the Henlopen south will own the chip again....D1... same top dogs. I do think Dover and Sussex Tech will compete for those last slots in the playoffs & will be competitive this year. A lot of young starters, returning for both teams. Dover returns QB, RB and receivers. Tech returns QB,RBs, and the whole O line

I may be wrong but wasn't Dovers QB a senior and committed to Temple? Or at least got an offer from them?

Dover QB was a jr. He is a apecial athlete and Dover is primed for a deep run. They have serious speed.

D1
1. Hodgson
2. Mtown
3. Smyrna
4. Penn/Sallies
5. Dover

D2
1. Delmar
2. Woodbridge
3. Howard
4. Tatnall
5. DMA (will play for chip)

Most talent Goes To Symrna they are number one

Middletown with Fry is #2 they lost a lot of production on the line. Some transfers could help thats probably their biggest question

Dover is 3 if they maximize the potential they have on the field. Very interesting team skill wise should have been better in 2017 . QB is Big time

Sallies will be much improved And will probably have the best overall lines in the state. If they make the right adjustments needed they could make a run for the title

Hodgson/ Penn/ tied hard to replace the production of Heyward but they have some studs that can do it.

After that nothing special

Woodbridge Is number one in D2
Returning Everyone Kane And Keeler will anchor a experienced team. Great coaching

Delaware Military Academy if they keep Alleyne kids a special talent if he stays in state they will be in the running

AI DuPont QB is gutsy and their style of play will put points up. Defensive will be much improved.

I put Howard here at 4 by default I think there is significant drop off after this

Delmar will score points but will will struggle on Defense losing 4 seniors on the defensive line and two all state linebackers. They also are losing two of their top three underclassman on Defense to recruting. That’s just to much production to lose on one side of the ball.

Milford without bowman is interesting I will leave it at that

Tatnall has talent with #1 at QB could surprise the division if they can protect him. He has a good arm and size. Shows the tools to be great if he continues to develop. 7 on 7 Should be a priority this off season to develop the chemistry needed with their receivers.

On a side 5 of your states top ten players are being recruited very heavily to finish their HS years out of state. Three are all but gone. Recruiting starts for these young men after their 9th and 10th grade seasons 2021 prospects are being offered now. It’s not 1985 anymore. And I’m not just talking about FBS offers. That’s why kids leave. When a recruiter from one of these Private Schools calls the kid and knows more about them then their own coach does kind of hard for the kids to say no. They are also bringing in college coaches to help seal the deal.

For example HS recruiter calls or messages your kid. Ask them how they are doing , and tells them
They would like them to play for X school next year. Ask them have you got any interest yet from colleges? Kid most of the time says no because they are probably A freshman Or sophomore. HS recruitier says really well I have shown your film to X college coach and they like it. I will arrange for them to contact you. College coach ends up calling or messaging the kid, or in some cases inviting them for a UnOffical Visit. This is legit interest that the HS recruiter Has set up. The kid sees this and basically it become a no brainer for them to enroll at new HS. Now all of this could have been done by their current HS coach. However it was not most likely because they lack the knowledge of how today’s recruiting works. This is the Private HS recruiters job. So he spends all day on these types of things every day. And its a race to start younger and younger. HS coaches need to brush up on recruiting in 2018. The younger recruiting coordinators at these colleges grew up with social media and are finding kids easier then ever. And Younger then ever.

The priority should always be getting your players to college through academics or football if they have the talent. It’s not winning games. Winning is secondary. Give me a HS coach that gets 90 percent of his kids in college for academics, and a couple scholarship kids D2 or better every year. Rather then winning games with kids that barely pass HS and never putting anyone in College. Deon Sanders has a great line about this last year. It escapes me but he said something along the same lines.

O and the 4 and 5 start kids don’t count. My grand mother can get them a scholarship just by putting them in a game.

D1 For me goes 1)MTown 2)Smyrna 3)Hodgson 4)Sussex Central 5)Penn 6)Dover

D2 should be between Woodbridge and Delmar, but DMA, AI and Howard will have something to say about it.

And a darkhorse for Flight B champ/possibly winning a playoff game or two? Brandywine. You heard it here first.

Who are the underclassmen that Delmar are recruiting on D?

Also, DMA losses 2 of those stud OL/DL guys, could be big losses. Can never count out Friends, they have an easy schedule and always get in

baseballer46.....exactly! I think this will be the Head Coach's 3rd year at Dover. So far he is.... 3-7 (2016) and 2-8 (2017). Kind of surprised how people can see them as a top 5 team. If we base it off of talent alone, they probably have some of the best talent in the state in that school, but that doesn't mean it will always translate to the field.

Doesn’t Sussex Central have most of their key players returning. Aren’t those twins juniors???
Yeah I don't think they lost very many players, maybe 2 key players on offense and 2 on defense. And yes those twins are some freakish athletes.

Putting Tatnall on here is joke. They were the worst team in the Silk Panty league last year (2-8). They will be at best the third best team in the silk panty league let alone being a top 5 team in DE. Tatnall won't have a single senior on the roster next year...

Duncan is gone along with the coaching staff, right?

Tatnall's schedule for 2018 looks kinda friendly (at McKean/Conrad/Wilm Charter/FSMA/Lake, home vs. Archmere/Tower/Red Lion/St. Andrew's), so I don't think they'll be as bad last year. Playoff contenders, not yet, but 6-4 isn't out of the question.

That is true. I don't see them beating Friends, Archmere, Tower or Conrad.

This is the hard part of between seasons in any sport - the rumor mill. A veteran sportswriter of many years told me something that I now use as a general rule - come see me August 15th. We'll know who's where by then and not a second before.

I think Lilly is that huge lineman they had last year? Trader is a baller but might be too small for FCA but he is only going to be a soph so he would be on JV for them for now

1st year came in and didn't have a QB with Triston Harris graduating, did his best to find one.
2nd year came in and Dover QB Magee after a year of experience was hurt and missed 3 games, had to play a freshmen QB. Big issue is defense giving up 36ppg last season, must improve.
But yes 3 year will be the real tale story for Dover.

Tatnall is young and will score points. I also like the new hire. I think they give Silk panty league a good run.

If Allyne stays at DMA they move up to 3.

Dover was a victim of youth and injury. They will be scary good.

Regarding recruiting Unless you are a kid that has an offer , I would not leave home. To be successful in those private school programs you need to be in the system early. 8th 9th grade tenth at the latest. Others may disagree. If you are a 4 and 5 star kid that just wants to get ready for the next level by playing in a more competitive league then that’s different. There is only one of those kids in your state and he should stay in Smyrna because he has a great mentor already.

Depending on who Dooley gives the QB job to will depend on how WP will look. They will be senior heavy at some key positions.
Sussex Central will also be senior heavy at most of their key positions.
