Week 5 NCC 7v7 (last week)

yep.. Has anyone seen Smyrna? If so how does their QB look.. and you can spare me the with his eyes wise cracks.. lol

It is a shame that none of the 7-1 teams get to meet this week.
If Elkton had not forfeited their week 1 games they might also be at 7-1 or 8-0. I think Elkton/Smyrna will be a better game than MT/Sallies, only because as everyone seems to think passing is not Sallies focal point. But who knows.

About 5 weeks until we see some real football!!

Yeah, I don't think there is a chance that STG would have beat Elkton if they played. I saw STG play Newark last week and they couldn't stop each other, so go figure.

My assessment on the first Tri-Scrimmage during a 7on7 I can remember. (Lake Forest never showed, and DMA, Sallies and Mtown played 7on7 on a Tri-Scrimmage format)

DMA had some athletes, a really quick running back, not as quick as Alleyne, but a quality replacement. However, the offense couldn’t move the ball on neither Mtown or Sallies. Defense found itself lucky on a few balls but had trouble stopping their opponents.

Middletown to me seemed liked they were improving. From Day 1 to now they are growing a chemistry with Braden and it’s receivers. BD had a great deep ball for a touchdown, but was choosing his shorter routes in most cases. Defense was solid overall, but has its weak moments which I won’t disclose here as a fan. Hopefully it gets addressed before Week 1.

Sallies impressed me. I’m sort of shocked that they lost 4 games entering this week. QB looked sharp, Watkins looks even better than he did last season if that was possible. The defense seemed smart, read their assignments really well, their LB trio is one of the better ones I’ve seen and their secondary’s has improved greatly. I remember them getting heat badly through out the early part of last season.

OVERALL -Sallies looked like the better team today. They certainly have the size. Their Receivers are quick, tall, and stocky. Linebackers are on the ball as soon as it gets where it’s headed. And the Corners was able to stick their receivers for the most. Other than a few mistakes, they have a complete package. I would like to see how it all unfolds I’ve the pads comes on and the offensive and defensive lines get on the field. With how big the receivers are, I really would love for DiNardo to open it up this seAson and throw the ball a Little more. One player reminds me of O’Neil and with a strong run game which we know they have, that passing attack would balance it out. Sallies will enter the season as my #1 team right now. I didn’t see anything today that should have changed my mind.

Great 7on7 season fellas. Only a few more days til Camp opens up.

I got over Caravel to check out the Elkton/Smyrna game. It was close most of the game, then Elkton went up 2TDs with about 2min left in the game. Elkton has athletes with good size everywhere. Not sure why Smyrna’s backup QB isn’t the starter yet, and Darryl Williams got tossed for 2 personal fouls. The first one was obvious but the second was very questionable.

Elkton DOES have athletes. If they played DIAA, I would put them against anyone.

Truth.....how was your complete assessment on Smyrna?

Granted it is 7on7, it doesn’t tell you everything.

My complete assessment of Smyrna last night would be that if Williams doesn't get kicked out and the backup QB played the whole time it probably would have came down to whomever has the ball last to win or lose the game.
I also noticed that a couple of starters weren't dressed on the sideline and I don't believe they threw the ball to the speedy WR once during the game.

I've seen Elkton play in the past, and they looked to be a very physical team. I am glad the county includes them in the 7v7.

I know they made it far in the MD Playoffs 2 or 3 season ago. I think they have some scrimmages in Delaware this season (St. Marks and Brandywine). Might be worth a trip over the state line during the season to watch them one Friday night.

They made it to the state semis last season. Lost to eventual champ oakdale. Bringing a lot of that team back this year. Didn't lose many.

Elkton was always ave and below and went through a lot of coaching changes. In 2014 Matt Feeney came in and turned it around

2014 : 4-6
2015: 10-2 lost in 2nd rd
2016: 12-2 lost in final
2017: 8-3 lost in 1st rd
2018: 10-3 lost in semi

4 straight state appearances .. with the new format they are certain to get in this year again but I think they have a legit shot at the title. Glenelg will be tough as will any team that comes out of that region.

I am not sure if is coaching or keeping the kids home not leaving to Caravel, St Marks and at one time RLCA. I think they even have some kids in Glasgow or Newark zone setting up residence in Elkton over from the 302. Probably a combination of all that. Actually keeping the kids home and eligible to get on field is part of good coaching IMO

Interesting Glenelg got moved to the West. Meaning Only 2 between Glenelg, Oakdale and you have Demascus in that region as well will move onto the quarters. You know Demascus isn't going to stay down long. That makes West the strongest region in 2A by far. 2A North and 2A South are pretty ave and beatable for Elkton should they make there. This year with the new format when its gets down to 2 teams left in the regional both teams move onto the quarters and the last 8 teams get re-seeded and they shoot it out from there. So it is possible for teams from the same region to play in the ship. Kinda bad news for 2A North, South and East. Mostly likely the best two teams will come from the West. Should be interesting.. Elkton needs to run the table in season so they get a high seed for the quarters should they get there.
