Sallie's vs. DE all stars

I think an all-star team of all the other schools could match or out gun Sallie's at all positions except midfield. An attack of any of Pettit, Kirkpatrick, Schaeffer, Benson and Messick would be stronger than Sallie's attack, and I think there are multiple goalies in the state who are just as good as if not better than Kern when given as good a defense as he has. The only problem would be I don't think there is a single midfielder in the state who would start over any of Sallies' midfield. I think a defense of Togo, Sheahan, McQuaide and Tracy could handle the Sallie's O well enough to give the keeper shots he could handle. At midfield, Mette, Hayward, Keen and Carney could compete on Offense but I'm not quite sure who could play D middie and handle the Sallie's line.

I would like Wooden Stick to explain his comments about the Sallies 9th and 10th graders. I know he has been involved with lacrosse for over sixty years and played in the era before TV coverage of any games. In fact, he played in the era before there was TV.

Good points and would be great to see. But looking head to head;
Attack, All Star would be better than Sallies Attack Advantage All Stars
Specialist, Face Off, Brett Tracey is best in state Advantage All Stars
Midfield Sallies in best hands down in the state Advantage Sallies
Defense arguably the best group/team defense state has seen Advantage Sallies
Goal, Kern is among the best if not the best fronted by the best defense Advantage Sallies
Reserves could start on many other DE teams and would be able to successfully relieve staters Advantage Sallies
Intangibles, Sallies has played better teams than the DE All Star groups. Look at the rosters of Malvern, La Costa Canyon, Georgetown Prep DE All stars would have a tough time seeing the field (especially mids and defenders) Advantage Sallies
Bottom line, hate to admit it, this team could be best the state has seen. Watched good Tower Hill, Tatnall and Sallies in the past and thought they were the best, but not this good.
Advantage Sallies

Hornet, I pretty much agree, except for the goaltender situation. There are 3 or 4 goalies who if given the opportunity to play with an even semi competent defense in front of them would at least make the goalie situation equal if not advantage to the All-Stars. Good point though, the All Stars just haven't seen enough real competition (besides getting blown out by Sallie's) and it would be tough to adjust to the speed of the game.

According to web stats Cape played Sallies 8-5 for three quarters with a final score of 13-6 earlier in the year. Again, according to the web schedule this was after playing St. Pauls, Severn, Archmere, and Friends over a two week period, and before Cape implemented their Zombie offense for their games vs. CR. I'm not saying that an All-Star team would definitely beat Sallies, but from what I've seen of the non-Sallies players on the All-State teams it would be a good game.

So far in this thread I haven't seen what I consider an important reason for Sallie's success, individually and as a team - Coach Healy. He obviously trains his players well in practice, and then lets them run the field. Too many Delaware high school coaches over-coach their offenses during games which slows the game down and allows opponent defenses to settle in. Good lacrosse is played at a constant break-neck speed, and until a Delaware school can field a team to run the field Sallies will reign supreme.

What's even more amazing, Magpie, is that my thumbs still work well enought to manage my iPhone keyboard! Good thing it doesn't have a rotary dial.

Evaluating individual performances on their respective teams, I would agree, but as All Stars, coming together as individual's that play on club teams like Dukes, Crabs etc. against teams like LI Express, West Coast Starz, etc., wouldn't that be a consideration? I imagine coaching strategies would be a variable, too. Which coach would be considered the best bet?

Couple of things;
Cape played Sallies tough, but have heard from numerous sources it was the Sals worst game - not up for the game, couldn't catch and pass...any given day, but no where near the same caliber of players. To be honest, outside of Benson, no one could start for Sallies and Benson would only help the attack.
Coaching is hands down the best and nod goes to Sallies, watching his team come out motivated and disciplined is a factor
Playing on good club teams is definately a benefit and maybe that's also why Sallies is so good (all their kids I believe are on the same teams), but the kids on the All Star team are simply not as good.
Not a knock on them, they play hard and have really helped their teams, just not as good. Look position by position to see where and if the kids will play at the next level (yes I know not the deciding factor, but another input) and compare to Sallies position by position - Sallies is loaded!
Anyway would be a great game - now if we could get the best from the last couple of years, or make the All Stars all seniors and then maybe bets are on the All Stars, not this year.....scary part is maybe not next year either!!

Sorry, but the Sals are here to stay. success breeds success...and this has lead the Sals to attracting the best talent in the Tri State area. A DE All Star team would be the only way to get a good game for the Sals in DE. A little creative tuition does not hurt either.
