Still a little chilly for today's games in the low 50's, but the sun will be out....

Woodbridge (2-0) @ Delmar (2-1). Woodbridge has played well behind the pitching of Avery. Wood has only allowed 2 runs in 2 games versus Seaford and Tech. Delmar was shutdown in its first game against Smryna 4-0 only getting 2 hits. But since has won 2 straight games against weaker out of state teams outscoring them 19-3. Delmar has gotten some good pitching from Adkins and Richardson. Delmar beat Wood last year 6-2 to make it three straight wins over Wood. This should be a competitive game.

Conrad (4-0) @ Newark Charter (2-2). Conrad is off to a great start piling on the runs in its first 3 games and then a 6-3 victory over a decent Wilmington Christian team yesterday. Newark Charter is a scrappy team that despite only its second year in existence and only Freshman and sophomores on the team is playing very well together. They had one bad inning in a loss to Appo, beat Charter and Tatnall then lost a close one to Archmere yesterday 5-2. They are in the midst of a very tough schedule playing Archmere yesterday, Conrad today, Mt P & Sallies next week, then DMA, St E and Caravel all the following week. NCS is getting good pitching from Chopko, Dorr & Vivian. Conrad is getting very good pitching from Bradigan, Kramedas and Awtry. I would expect a good pitching, low scoring game today with these two teams in their inaugural first matchup. I do smell some possible NCS upset in the air.

Wilmington Christian (1-1) @ DMA (4-1). WC came out like gangbusters in the first game of the season winning 19-0 over Delmarva Christian. Yesterday they played a good game against Conrad leading 3-2 going into the 7th inning, but gave up 4 to lose. DMA is playing very well thus far, losing a heartbreaker,9-8, to Mtown in game 1, but they have won 4 straight games over some decent competition, Mt P, Glasgow as well as blowouts against Charter and Dickinson. DMA is averaging 10 runs per game so WC will need some good pitching. DMA has beaten WC at least 9 straight times including their closest game ever in 2015, 3-1.

Appo (3-2) @ Delcastle (2-0). Not often you see a Delcastle team 2-0, especially scoring 38 runs in 2 games. Before we get too excited, it was against Christiana & Howard. But what that tells me is that Delcastle is doing what it is supposed to do against smaller and weaker teams. Now they come back to reality against one of the big boys in the state in Appo. Appo is 3-2, with 2 extra winning losses to Sallies & Smyrna. Suprisingly their pitching and defense is struggling a little, an area which we all thought they would be very strong in. To put it in perspective, Appo only gave up 33 runs all regular season in 2015. This year after 5 games they have given up 28 runs. Fortunately their offense is just as potent though, scoring nearly 8 runs per game. Appo threw all three of their main pitchers (Garrett, Steckline & Banning) yesterday and with St Marks on the schedule for Saturday, we might be seeing young, untested arms today against Delcastle? After all this build up, Appo should cruise today. I don’t see Delcastle shutting down Appo’s bats. Depending on Appo’s pitching, Delcastle could get some runs across the plate though to make it a little interesting. I think Delcastle will make it closer than the 15-1 defeat it suffered to Appo in 2015. In fact, Delcastle has never beaten Appo and the closest game was 10-2 Appo.

Charter (1-4) @ Concord (2-2). Charter got its first win of the season yesterday. Concord has played well this year with all close games against St E, Hodgson, CR & Mtown.

Tower Hill (1-2) @ Brandywine (0-2). TH lost a close one to Milford 5-4, then lost big to St E. They turned it around and won big against St Andrews on Saturday 10-2. Brandywine hasn’t put up much fight this year getting beat 9-2 by RLCA and 23-1 against Conrad. TH should get back to par after this one.
