MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - - Hakim Williams scored in the 99th minute to allow 10th ranked Wilmington University men’s soccer to walk-off with a 2-1 victory over Millersville on Wednesday night in the final nonconference game of the 2021 season.

With the win, the Wildcats extend their best start to a season in program history, improving to 8-0-1 overall. The 2019 team was 8-0-0 before dropping their ninth game of the season.

The game was bookended by Wilmington goals, as Richard Thompson scored in the fourth minute of action and Hakim Williams scored in the 99th minute.

The scoring started early for the Wildcats, as they converted off their first corner of the game. Carson Talboys’ initial shot rung off the crossbar and Richard Thompson was there to clean up the box with his first goal of the season.

But Millersville answered in the 22nd minute, tying the game with a goal from Adiletta Mill.

The Wildcats led, 7-5, in shots in the first half, but went into the break knotted at 1-1.

Yohan Kim hit the crossbar in the 48th minute, but that was the only shot on frame in the second half for the Wildcats. Konstantinos Parisis made back-to-back saves in the 54th minute to keep the Marauders off the scoreboard as well.

Millersville had the first two shots of the overtime period, but neither were on goal. The only shot of the extra period for the Wildcats found the back of the net, as Hakim Williams scored his second of the year with an assist to Tajhay Williams with 1:51 left in the first overtime.

Millersville led in shot, 11-10, with corners taken being tied at 5-5. Konstantinos Parisis made four saves in the match, two in each half of regulation.

The Wildcats return to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play for the rest of the year, starting with Nyack at home on Saturday afternoon. The opening whistle is set for 2:30 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.

SUBJECT: Hakim Williams Scores Second Overtime Winner in Two Games to Lead No. 10 Men’s Soccer Over Nyack, 1-0

NEWARK, Del. - - Hakim Williams delivered his second overtime winner of the week on Saturday as the 10th ranked Wilmington University men’s soccer team defeated Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Nyack, 1-0, in double overtime at the WU Athletics Complex.

The win extends the best start to a season for the Wildcats in program history, as the nationally 10th ranked Wildcats move to 9-0-1 overall and 3-0 in CACC play.

The afternoon was littered with near misses and close calls on both sides of the ball, but it was capped by a Hakim Williams tap in the 102nd minute. Williams also scored the overtime winning on Wednesday night at Millersville in the 99th minute.

Both keepers were called upon to keep the game scoreless, as the Warriors’ (3-6, 2-2 CACC) Marco Roble recorded six saves on the afternoon and the Wildcats’ Konstantions Parisis made three stops.

There was no bigger stop for Roble then in the 84th minute, as he kept the game scoreless by saving a penalty kick from the nation’s leading scorer in Shawn Genus.

Konstantinos Parisis’ big save came in the first overtime period, as he sprawled out to his left to get just enough of a Mitchell Reed shot in the 93rd minute.

Marius Skattum Dahl had an opportunity in the last minute of the first overtime, getting a good piece of the ball from outside the 18-yard box, but his shot was directly at Roble who made the stop and sent the game into double overtime.

The Wildcats capitalized on their lone chance of the second overtime, starting with a long ball out of the backfield and tracked down by Pol Romero. Romero got the ball to his right foot and fired to the near post, but Roble was able to make the initial stop. But he gave up a rebound and Shawn Genus was there to collect it on the endline. He sent he ball back across the goal mouth to a wide open Hakim Williams who tapped in it for the game-winning goal.

The Wildcats led in shots, 20-8, including a 10-3 advantage in the first half. Nyack had more corners, 5-4, in the match.

The Wildcats are on the road for their next three games, but they start with their shortest trip of the year on Tuesday afternoon. They head to Goldey-Beacom for a 3:30 start on October 5.
