Hall has been a consistent voice and right-hand man for the golf program through Jennings’ 14 years at the helm. Most recently, Hall has been the team’s swing coach, helping the team to record eight consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championships and 14 trips to the Atlantic/East Super Regional Tournaments, including five NCAA National Tournament Appearances and a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2016.

SUBJECT: Fredrik Bentdal Solidifies Comeback 30 Seconds into Overtime, 3-2, at Millersville in Season Opener

djl

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - - A Fredrik Bentdal blast just 30 seconds into overtime gave the Wilmington University men’s soccer team a 3-2 come-from-behind victory in the 2018 season opener at Millersville on Thursday night.

A fast start to the 2018 season didn’t last long for the Wildcats (1-0), as they founded themselves down, 2-1, in the 63rd minute. The game-tying goal came in the 85th minute before Bentdal scored from outside the box just 30 seconds into extra time to seal the 3-2 victory.

Newcomer Will Stone highlighted the first half for the Wildcats, finding the back of the net with his first opportunity for the green and white. It only took 8:22 for the senior transfer to make an impact on the season, scoring off a double assist from Sam Jester and Tom Garratt to put the Wildcats ahead, 1-0, in the early going.

But the Marauders (0-1) answered by finding the back of the net on their first shot of the game as well, waiting until the 21st minute to strike. Tied, 1-1, at the half, the Wildcats narrowly led in shots, 5-4, and corners, 2-1.

The opening 15 minutes of the second half were back-and-forth, but it was the Marauders were the team that was able to strike first to take a 2-1 lead. Chase Flickinger put the home team up, 2-1, in the 63rd minute.

The Wildcats picked up the pressure from there on out, putting up the game’s next four shots and three corner kicks. But it was the Wildcats’ fifth ensuing shot that evened the match.

After forcing the Marauders offside, newcomer Ellis McSharry knotted the game in the 85th minute for his first collegiate career goal. McSharry took a feed from Stone on the right side of the box and bent it into the top left corner with 5:09 left in regulation.

Garratt thought he had the game-winner in regulation, but his shot in the 87th minute hit the post and stayed out, sending the game into overtime.

The clock hardly began to roll in the overtime before Bentdal ended the game in 30 seconds, with another assist going to Stone.

Stone scored once and added two assists for four points. Bentdal and McSharry each scored once for two points while Garratt and Jester added assists for one point.

Senior Vinny Tasca made three saves for the win while the Wildcats ended up outshooting the Marauders, 14-7.

The Wildcats return to Millersville for their next contest but to square of against the District of Columbia on Saturday. The opening whistle is set for 4:30 p.m.

UBJECT: Rookies Step Up For Women’s Soccer, Come Back for 2-1 Victory over Daemen

DATE: September 3, 2018

NEWARK, Del. - - A pair of rookies led a comeback charge for the Wilmington University women’s soccer team, as the Wildcats scored twice in the second half to defeat Daemen, 2-1, for their first win of the season on Monday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

On a hot and muggy Labor Day, the Wildcats (1-1) were slow to pick up the pace in the early going, but eventually took over possession late in the first half. But by that point, Daemen (1-2) had already taken a 1-0 lead.

Daemen’s Jamie Boyar was the recipient of a long through ball down the middle in the eighth minute. Wildcats goalkeeper Kate Tubo came out of the box to great Boyar, being able to stop the initial attempt. But the ball popped up in the air and Boyar was the only one able to get it to, slotting it home for the quick 1-0 lead but 7:10 into the contest.

Wilmington ended up outshooting Daemen, 7-5, in the first half, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

The momentum carried into the second for the Wildcats, as they opened the half with back-to-back corners and majority of possession. But it took until the 57th minute for the team to even the score.

Rebecca Dolhansky played a ball into space down the right side for Alex Keck. The redshirt freshman played a ball from the right side, angled towards the back post. The ball carried over the Daemen goalkeeper and into the side netting for her first collegiate career goal 56:14 into the match.

Tubo was called on to make five saves throughout the second half, coming up with the stop on each opportunity. That allowed the offense to keep the pressure up, as Jasmine Brake nearly put the home team in front with a shot off the crossbar in the 76th minute.

Dolhanksy’s attempt in the 86th minute was deflected out of bounds and the Wildcats made sure to make the ensuing corner count.

Dolhansky’s corner laid up on the back post for freshman Cassidy McErlain, who headed it home for her first collegiate career goal 85:36 into the match. Her goal resulted in the game winner.

The Wildcats outshot Daemen, 13-12, for the game, despite earning fewer corners, 5-4, for the match. Tubo made seven saves for the Wildcats while Daemen goalkeeper Maddie Flores made five stops.

Wilmington remains home for its next contest, as the Wildcats host nationally No. 8 West Chester at the WU Athletics Complex. The opening whistle is set for 4:00 p.m.

The Griffins wouldn’t roll over, however, as they fought back with six straight points of their own and nine of 11 to climb to within 22-21. Rawlinson ended the run with a kill before Behiels gave the Wildcats set point, 24-21, with a kill. A Griffin attack error put the Wildcats up, 2-1, with the third set, 25-21.

Wilmington jumped out to leads of 5-0, 11-4, and 13-5, early in the fourth set, but the Griffins once again fought back and used a 4-0 spurt to eventually tie the set, 20-20. A service error, followed by back-to-back Brittany Ford service aces gave the Wildcats a 23-20 lead. Behiels gave the Wildcats a 24-21 advantage before a Griffin error ended the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-1, in favor of the Wildcats.

NEWARK, Del. - - Each team nearly ended the contest with a goal at the end of regulation, but it was a Sam Jester Blast exactly seven minutes into the first overtime that gave the Wilmington University men’s soccer team a hard earned 2-1 victory over Holy Family at the WU Athletics Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

The win was the fifth in a row for the Wildcats (6-0-3) who remained undefeated on the year and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (4-0-1). The loss was only the second in the last six game for the Tigers (4-5), who dropped their first CACC contest of the year (4-1).

The Wildcats help possession for the majority of the first half, but couldn’t find the back of the net despite holding an 8-5 advantage in shots and a 10-2 advantage in corners taken.

It didn’t take long for the Wildcats to capitalize in the second half however, as one of those corners finally paid off. Daniel Loyo was on the back post and slotted a deflected header from Will Stone into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute. But the lead didn’t last long, as the Tigers answered with their first chance of the second half. Elliot Johnson nearly broke up the play in the box, but the jammed ball bounced in favor of Will Stackhouse and he was able to beat Vinny Tasca low to tie the match, 1-1, in the 60th minute for the Tigers.

The Wildcats had a goal wiped off the scoreboard in the 74th minute as a late out of bounds call was made once the dust settled.

The Tigers had an opportunity to grab a late lead as Holy Family’s Sean McCormick found himself alone and in on Tasca. He worked around Tasca, but his shot was cleared off the line as Ellis McSharry came flying in to keep the game at 1-1 with one minute left in regulation.

The Wildcats then used that and headed down the other way, as Fredik Bentdal ended up wide open in front of the goal off a feed from Will Stone with four seconds left. But his shot sailed on him, hitting the top of the crossbar and headed out of bounds as the game headed to overtime.

After Tigers’ goalkeeper Mark Tobin saved two shots to start the overtime period, Sam Jester ended the contest with three minutes left in the first overtime, blasting a shot off his hands from 15 yards out for the 2-1 victory. It was his fourth goal of the year, but first game-winning goal.

The Wildcats four-game home stand concludes on Saturday with the 2018 Homecoming Weekend contest. They will cap a tripleheader at the WU Athletics Complex with a game against Concordia starting at 3:00 p.m.
