302 Blue-Gold

My point is the teams that play on Gold focusses more on defense than the Blue and its showing.

Saw some pictures on twitter of crowd.. Crowd only on one side (home side closed) and its very sparse..Thats disappointing as the the crowd has been shrinking drastically the last few years.. Although I am sure the Friday night BG game has allot to do with this... Its why I didn't go. It's kinda of a shame because the boys who are't going on to play in college didnt get a last hurrah in the stadium with a good crowd because of the renovations. Is what it is I guess.

To take it a point further once you start building your team for speed and spread O and defending the spread O you will have problems defending balanced teams or stopping anyone see the Big 12

They announced 7003 peeps

is that good or bad? how many used to come?.. It certainly doesn't look like that many.. Maybe folks bought tickets to contribute but didn't attend? I know in my sons year the home side was full and the away side was half

I have a challenge for you name one team in the North in the last 10 years not named Sallies, St Marks or Caravel that has had a good defense

I just think coaches in the south focus more on defense and coaches in the north are all about the athletes and scoring.. Coaches in the north are younger and in the south older so there is that

That is easy. Do you need specific years because there are many teams that have had good defense and I can name some just in the last 5 years.

Penn had good defenses for several years.
Hodgson can be suffocating
Concord defense was abusing up until after Avery Roberts graduated in 2016
Friends very hard to move the ball and their offense helps
Howard puts plenty of pressure on teams causing havoc
St. George's defense was stout several years under Maul just could win the big games
Brandywine because you place them in obscurity has had a strong D the last couple of years.
Oh I almost forgot about Tower Hill last season was very good.

So who are these great defenses in the South?

HVT and Penn I will give you for a couple years but the rest they never won anything for tha matter neither did ST G. St G had a couple of good players but thats it .. Concord was one guy Roberts and he wast that dominating

Last year Central one of the best defenses in the last 20 years in DE
Woodbridge I cant name the all staters off by memory but they had a good one and some dudes
Delmar is always solid on D
Smyrna although not great but good enough..Wilson boys were solid
MT always good defensively If Penn State is linebacker U then MT is linebacker DEHS

This is just the last 4 years which is my point

now its your turn name the good defenses in the North the last 5 years

You didn't say win you said good defense but again proves my point about inadequate analysis outside of the top 3-5 teams.

Concord had good defensive teams but couldn't win mainly because offense was to basic and predictable and against better teams and couldn't score.
St. G's had more than a couple of good players and went several years of defensive seasons only to have a big let down in the playoffs check scores from 2010-2016.

Laughable
Friends - Group of kids that played from 2015-2017 played good defensive ball. Friends situation is similar to Concords they are going to win playing good defense and ball control on offense and they will lose win playing good defense and ball control on offense
Brandywine - I have witnessed them stifle opponents even winning in 3rd/4th qtrs only to lose game by 2-3 TDs and each time has been due to bad offense not being able to score points.
Tower Hill defense last season was strong. What proof that you have that it wasn't? Their defensive performance in the playoffs should have shown that.

I guess I am not alone lol

Unfortunately no you are not alone. A friend told me about him a couple of years ago. Kid received invites to Nike Opening camp and other places. This kid and others have the skills but people are only focus on historic winners and front runners.

Concord, Friends and Tower Hill ? lol they play chumps. I believe I already listed the good D’s down south. Most teams in the Henny conf play solid D

Jamon Kane- MVP D2 player
Gabe Wescott could’ve easily got MVP too but got leadership award

Why would they not. Delaware might as well be Rhode Island when it comes to National football. Granted some folks look it as DE being a Philly suburb and we get looks based on that. Mostly the north and Wilmington kids.

Delaware does just ok with athletes getting looks especially if those athletes hit camps OOS. But the coaches who happen to consider film and consider level of competition that’s where DE athletes fall off the radar. No one considers DE in state comp as being good. You certainly can’t compare a DE state champ to Texas or California or most states.

The truth of the matter to be D1 state champ in DE you have to be better than 17 teams. In most other states you have to be be better than 200 plus.

William Penn 2014
William Penn 2015
HVT last year
A few others

BUT those great defenses down state seem to struggle vs real offenses.
Smryna averaged close to 50 a game for 3 years
Dover put up big numbers last year
Middletown puts up big numbers offensively every time they face a down state opponent
HVT put up good numbers vs central

Central did have a great defense last year though!

When they introduced the Blue team last night, there were several "also" names mentioned. I guess they were selected for the team but did not participate in the game - not sure why (injuries, other commitments,??) but 3 of the names were from Sallies which I thought was odd. Wonder if they had played would it have mattered.

kids have been choosing Firefly over BG lately. Sad but true. BG is a huge commitment with the hand and hand things that go on all summer after they graduate. Some kids just want to party and not deal with it. Is what it is I suppose

and yes there is trend of sallies kids opting out in the last 3 years

The northern school aren’t producing the same good defenses like before all because of the same reason that is always mentioned. The charters up north. Plane and simple. Nothing more. Take these charters out of the equation and these schools would have the same defenses they once had.

So why are we attacking “sallies players” for not wanting to play in blue gold? And why just “sallies” I’m sure there’s other kids from other schools that do not participate.

Blue Gold is a wonderful experience for anyone that can be apart of it, the friendships you make during the process sticks with you even after high school and college. But I for one cant fault a player for Not wanting to participate and wanting to enjoy their summer. You just graduated, and plan to go on vacations and party before you have to jump right back in the thick of things with college.

What does charters have to do with a team playing good defense?

Last year Central defense was fantastic and so was Hodgson, Tower Hill and Friends. Those 3 were probably top 5 at least top 10 in the state.
Woodbridge defense was also good and benefited from a senior class of kids with most contributing since freshman. Their defense was poor to average prior question will the next group of kids and new head coach sustain that standard.
Delmar is always solid on D is definitely not an accurate statement. They are average at best.
During those championship runs Smyrna's D was slightly above average. It helps a defense a whole lot when your average 40+ per game.
Middletown has been the most consistent over the last 5 years of the teams you named maybe outside of Woodbridge. But Linebacker DEHS???? What LBs are you referencing? Not saying they aren't good HS players but Penn State is considered LBU because of the number that move to the next level. Who are those from Middletown?

Several players were nursing injuries suffered during lacrosse. Sometimes, college coaches don't want their recruits playing in an exhibition game. Blue was definitely missing a few big players, but still, it was a fun game.
