So I will take a different approach on this. A public school will always be looking up. Sallies will only get bigger and better. The coaches and administration is in place and willing to invest. I think we can all agree on that.
So now the other view. Build a sustainable program. Invest in your program and players. That does not mean financially. Be there for them, keep communication open. Keep the gyms open, build a weight program, get in real trainers - not leg tappers. Strength and conditioning - all sports. Build it and be consistent.
What that means to a 13-14-15-16-year-old, is that they care. In turn they want to beat the Sals. They focus on that. Playing in front of 3500 in the big game, proving they are just as good if not better. WE all love the underdog story. People hop on this and want to be a part of that. Beating big brother is fulfilling. Having the goal to beat the big bad team is something you can rally your players to. Invest, be consistent, and don't give up after 2 years and change coaches. it can and will happen.
WIll the Sals be bigger and better, sure... However, you only have to beat them once. It's a goal, it's a focus. Embrace it.
It may sound corny and a pipe dream, but it beats the crap out of complaining!
