NEWARK, Del. -? University of Delaware women's lacrosse head coach Kateri Linville announced today the team's 2014 schedule, which features five NCAA Tournament squads, three ranked opponents, and nine home dates.

"Our goal, as a program, is to return Delaware women's lacrosse to national prominence," remarked Linville, who is in her fourth season at the helm of the Blue Hens. "We want to create a winning tradition that attracts talent and brings a sense of pride to our players, alumni and the University as a whole. We believe that to be the best, you have to play and beat the best and with that we are excited to take on five NCAA Tournament teams and three nationally ranked opponents. We know that there are two roads to the tournament ? one through our conference championship and one through our non-conference wins. We cannot wait to kick off our 2014 season this coming February."

The Blue Hens face their first competition the weekend of February first as the team travels to south for exhibition matches against nationally-ranked Duke and defending national champion North Carolina.

Delaware then opens regular season play on Saturday, Feb. 15 against Georgetown in Washington, D.C. The Hoyas finished the 2013 campaign with a No. 8 ranking and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The 2014 home opener will be Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Delaware Stadium as the Blue Hens host Lafayette, a team that went 9-9 overall and 3-3 in league play to advance to the Patriot League Tournament.

UD hits the road for the next two weekends as the Hens take on Ivy League champion, NCAA Tournament participant, and No. 17 Penn in Philadelphia on Feb. 22 before playing at Rutgers on March 1.

The Blue Hens then return home for a three-game stand over the next week against La Salle (March 5), Villanova (March 8), and Virginia Tech (March 12).

Next up for Delaware will be a quick trip to Temple on March 15 before facing another NCAA Tournament team in Monmouth at Delaware Stadium on March 19. The Hawks won the NEC en route to post-season play last year.

On March 22, the Blue Hens travel to first-time opponent George Washington.

Colonial Athletic Association play begins on March 30 for UD as the Blue Hens take on defending CAA-champion and NCAA Tournament participant Towson at the Tigers' Johnny Unitas Stadium.

The Hens then bring CAA action to Delaware Stadium as they host Drexel on April 4 before traveling to Hofstra on April 6.

Delaware closes out the final three regular season contests at home with matchups against James Madison (April 11), William & Mary (April 13), and No. 11 Stony Brook (April 22). The Seawolves, a first-time opponent for the Blue Hens, are coming off of a historic season after capturing the most wins in program history (17) en route to its first America East championship and first-ever NCAA Tournament win.

The 2014 CAA Championships will be held May 2-4, with the College of William & Mary serving as host.

LADY HAWKS FALL IN OVERTIME TO HOWARD
UMES falls in overtime to the Lady Bison

WASHINGTON - After a strong first half, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's basketball team was
unable to sustain the momentum as they fell to the Lady Bison of Howard University in overtime, 77-75. With the loss, the Lady
Hawks dropped to 3-12 overall (0-4 MEAC) whereas Howard improves to 7-10 (3-1 MEAC) on the season. These two institutions
will meet next month (02/15) inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. Game-time is set for 2:00 p.m. (EST)

In overtime, neither team was able to find rhythm as both teams combined for 2-of 14 from the floor. Howard took the lead
after two freebies by Te'Shya Heslip, 75-73, with exactly 3:03 to go in overtime. As time was running out, UMES tied the
contest, 75-75, with a layup from Breonna Evans (Melfa, Va.) and only 11 seconds in the extra period. The Lady Bison held for
the final shot and Heslip delivered with a game-winner with only six ticks to go, giving Howard the victory, 77-75.

Jessica Long (Fort Washington, Md.) paced the Hawk attack, scoring a game-high 21 points, including 9-for-11 from the free-
throw line. Ashleigh Claybrooks (Manassas, Va.) recorded a double-double off the bench, 14 points and 14 boards, in the loss.

After taking a 43-29 lead at the half, back-to-back buckets from Long extended UMES' lead, 47-29, until a basket by Victoria
Gonzalez put the Lady Bison on the board, 47-31. With nearly four minutes played into the second half, the Lady Hawks found
themselves with a 21-point lead, 56-35. UMES held a double-digit lead until the Lady Bison narrowed the gap to seven points,
65-58, with over five minutes in regulation. Howard continued to chip away the Lady Hawks' lead and forced overtime after a
layup from Cabria Johnson with only two ticks left, 73-73.

Other notable Hawk performances included Shawnee Sweeney (Chester, Va.) notching 10 points, including three long balls,
while Chalyse Taylor (Louisville, Ky.) added eight points in a losing effort.

In the first four minutes, Howard led, 8-5, until a mini-run from the Lady Hawks tied the score, 12-12, with more than 12
minutes before halftime. In the next four-and-a-half minutes, UMES went on a 13-3 run to take a commanding 25-15 lead. The
Lady Bison stormed back to go on a 10-3 run and pulled the game within three points, 28-25, with only four minutes in the half.
The Lady Hawks responded and ended the half on a 15-4 run to take a 14-point lead into halftime, 43-29.

For Howard, Shavonne Duckett tallied a double-double, 19 points and 13 rebounds, whereas Heslip registered 18 points, nine
boards, and eight assists in the victory.

Next Saturday (01/25), the Lady Hawks head south to Daytona Beach, Fla. where the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University
awaits. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (EST)

UMES FALLS IN CONFERENCE TILT AT HOWARD
UMES unable to tame fierce HU offensive attack, Jones notches 13 points

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team was
unable to stop a vicious offensive assault on Saturday night as the Hawks were defeated by
Howard, 88-55, in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play. The loss is the fourth consecutive for
the Hawks at Burr Gymnasium. With the loss, UMES falls to 2-14, 0-4 MEAC, while Howard
goes to 4-15, 2-2 MEAC.

The Hawks jumped out to a 5-2 lead three minutes into the game after a three-pointer junior
Isaac Smith II (Chicago, Ill.). Howard would go on a quick push to take over the lead, but a
free-throw by senior Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.) evened the score at 8-8 at the 15:19 mark. It
would be all Howard for the next six minutes of play, as the Bison used a 17-1 push to take a
16-point lead, 25-9, with just over nine minutes to go.

Howard extended its lead to over 20 points minutes later and held a 52-24 lead at intermission.

UMES scored just six points over the first five minutes of the second as the Bison continued to
extend their lead. The men would go on score 25 points the rest of the way, as an aggressive
HU offensive attack proved to be too much to handle. Despite shooting 47-percent from the floor
in the second-half, the Hawks allowed Howard to go 14-for-18 from the charity stripe.

UMES was led by junior KyRee Jones (Indianapolis, Ind.), who had a team-high 13 points on a
4-for-10 effort from the field. Jones chipped in with three assists as well, while junior Ishaq Pitt
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) had eight points and six boards. The Hawks were outrebounded 38-27 and
shot just 59-percent from the free-throw line.

Howard saw James Daniel score a game-high 33 points and Tyler Stone record a game-high
seven boards. Prince Okoroh had 19 points with six rebounds and three assists. Howard went
to the free-throw line 33 times in the game and recorded 11 assists altogether.

The men will stay on the road for their next contest as they head south to Dayton Beach, Fla., to
take on Bethune-Cookman on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 4 p.m.

INDOOR TRACK STRIDES TO SEVERAL TOP TEN FINISHES AT GREAT DANE CLASSIC
Kerr posts win in long jump; Simon impresses once again

MANHATTAN, N.Y. - For the indoor track team at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), the
competition at the Great Dane Classic was the largest field they have had to compete against all season long, and
quite possibly the toughest. That did not deter the Hawks, however, as several athletes gutted out top ten
performances last Friday at The Armory.

On the men's side, freshman Jared Kerr (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) picked up his fourth win this season, finishing
first in the long jump with a distance of 7.38 meters. Another impressive finish was made by an athlete who is no
stranger to strong performances, junior Dillon Simon (Pottersville, Dominica), with his second place finish in the shot
put at a distance of 18.01 meters. So far, Dillon has four wins and two second place finishes this year. Two more top
ten finishes on the field end of the men's meet include a sixth place finish in the weight throw from senior George
Chandler (Birdsnest, Va.) with a distance of 16 meters even, and a ninth place finish in the triple jump by junior
Devin Wynn (Baltimore, Md.), with a distance of 13.95 meters.

The men's team also took home a few top ten finishes on the track side of the competition. Freshman Khalil Rmidi
Kinini (Malaga, Spain) finished fourth in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:30.70, adding that performance to wins
in the mile run and an outstanding cross country season. Senior Aaron Chatman (Waldorf, Md.) did not disappoint
either with a fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash, earning a time of 48.41. Chatman has earned two wins this
year, one in the 200 meter dash and one in the 500 meter dash.

Top ten finishes were also plentiful for the Lady Hawks, beginning with junior Gayon Evans (Clarendon, Jamaica),
who ran to a sixth place finish in the 400 meter dash with her time of 56.72. Evans has two wins on the year,
including a school record in the 60 meter dash at 7.34 seconds. Two Lady Hawks, sophomore Shantol Hemley (St.
Catherine's, Jamaica) and freshman Rachel Halmon (Waldorf, Md.) registered top ten places in the 800 meter run,
with Hemley finishing 8th (2:16.41) and Halmon finishing 10th (2:19.42). On the field side, graduate student Geranda
Williams (Waldorf, Md.) placed ninth in the triple jump with her distance of 11.70 meters, just shy of the school record
she holds.

Finally, the Lady Hawks earned two top ten finishes in the relay and medley portions of the meet. The UMES relay
team of Evans, Hemley, Halmon and sophomore Taylor Folk (Baltimore, Md.) finished 7th in the 4x400 relay with a
time of 3:53.40. The UMES distance medley team of Folk, sophomores Jheniel Kelly (Edgewood, Md.) and Jasmine
Sampson (Coatesville, Pa.), and junior Margaret Wilmot-Francis (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) finished sixth with
their time of 12:55.53.

In terms of team scoring, the women's team managed a 16th place finish with 13 points accumulated, while the men
finished 5th with 41 team points. The University of Connecticut earned the most team points in the men's and
women's meet.

The men's team will travel to Annapolis, Md. this Saturday for one final meet at the Naval Academy this indoor
season. The women will travel to Newport News, Va. to participate in the Captain's Invite, hosted by Christopher
Newport University.

KERR, CLAYBROOKS NAMED UMES PRMC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Freshman Track & Field athlete takes 1st in Long Jump; Claybrooks records double-double

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.-Freshmen Jared Kerr (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) and sophomore
Ashleigh Claybrooks (Manassas, Va.) have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore
Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on January 21st. Both
athletes are receiving the award for the first time this year.

Kerr has come on strong in the last couple weeks to record wins in three events and earn one school
record. This past week, he kept the winning tradition going as the sole UMES track athlete to finish first
in his event at the Great Dane Classic in New York City. Jared posted a distance of 7.38 meters in the
long jump, beating out his second place competition by .19 meters. That result not only beat out one
competitor, but 28 other athletes at the Great Dane Classic. So far this season, Kerr has earned four wins
in the long jump and triple jump combined, and setting the school record for triple jump at 14.65 meters.

Meanwhile, sophomore hoops star Ashleigh Claybrooks continued posting double-double performances
with last Saturday's 14 point and 14 rebound effort against Howard. The center went 5-for-12 from the
floor in shooting, adding four free throws. Of the 14 rebounds, nine were of the offensive variety, with the
remaining five coming on the defensive end. For Ashleigh, this is her third double-double of the season,
earning her the fourth highest scoring average (7.9 PPG) and third in rebounds per game (6.9).

Jared and the rest of the men's track team will travel to Annapolis one last time on Saturday for the Navy
Invitational, while Claybrooks and the women's basketball team will venture to the sunny shores of
Daytona Beach, Fla. to play Bethune-Cookman.

are set for action at Bethune-Cookman at 4 p.m. The Hawks have won just three times against
BCU in the past 20 matchups and look to win at Moore Gymnasium for the first time since 2003.

UMES (2-14, 0-4 MEAC) comes into the game riding a 12-game losing streak. UMES fell to
BCU, 58-57, in its only match against the Wildcats last season. UMES was down by six in the
game with 1:34 to go, but six unanswered UMES points tied the game with 18 seconds left. A
foul by UMES with two seconds remaining proved to be costly as BCU made the second shot in
the double-bonus to claim the win.

The team will need to control the glass against Bethune-Cookman (2-19, 0-6 MEAC), as the
Hawks are much taller and deeper in the low post. Despite posting 30 rebounds in only two of
its past six contests, UMES holds the advantage on paper. BCU is averaging just 32.5 rpg and
do not have anyone taller than 6'8. Senior Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.) has at least six boards in
four of his past six games.

The Hawks will look to junior KyRee Jones (Indianapolis, Ind.) to once again lead the way.
Jones leads the MEAC with 2.5 three-pointers a game and is among the top-10 with 15.6 ppg.
Freshman Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) will control the point for the fifth consecutive
game and will look to reclaim his MEAC Rookie of the Week award following the contest.

BCU is being led by Mikel Trappe and Clemmye Owens, who are averaging 10.7 and 10.0 ppg,
respectively. The two are the only players on the team averaging double-digit point totals. BCU
ranks last in the MEAC in scoring average (62.2 ppg) and defensive rebounds. Much like
UMES, BCU relies on its three-point shooting to get the job done as Trappe and Owens are
each in the top-5 in the MEAC in three-pointers made per game. The Wildcats are shooting well
from the free-throw line 70.8-percent.

Let's take a look at a few game notes for the matchup:

- LAST TIME OUT: UMES was upended at Howard, 88-55, last Saturday night. The Hawks fell
behind early in the match and were unable to tame a vicious HU offensive attack. KyRee Jones
recorded a team-high 13 points and was 3-of-7 from long range. Ishaq Pitt held his own on the
glass with six boards, while Mark Blackmon had a career-high eight points

- MATCHUP AGAINST BCU: The Hawks have won just three times in the past 20 meetings
against the Wildcats. UMES last won against BCU in 2010, when the men won, 62-56, at the
W.P Hytche Center. The Hawks have not won at Moore Gymnasium in the Frankie Allen era
and are winless there since UMES pinned a 74-69 victory over BCU on Jan. 13, 2003

- HAWKS' ROAD LOSING SKID: Including MEAC play, UMES has lost 28 consecutive road
contests since the Hawks won at Morgan State on Feb. 11, 2012. The men have not won an
out-of-conference road game in their last 26 tries, a span dating back to their victory at Navy on
Nov. 11, 2010

- THREE-POINT SHOWDOWN: UMES and BCU have relied on their three-point shots this
season. The teams are each averaging 19 attempts per game, including 15 combined games
between the two with over 20 tries. The teams have three players between them in the top-5 in
the MEAC in threes made with UMES' KyRee Jones leading the way at 2.5 pg.

- STREAKY JONES: KyRee Jones recently had two streaks end. He had made 20 consecutive
free-throws across a four-game span end against Norfolk State (Jan. 11). He also saw a seven
game double digit game point streak end in the game. He has 15 points in six of the past nine
games and has four games over 20 points.

Women's Collegiate Bowling
"UMES BOWLING TAKES THIRD STRAIGHT KUTZTOWN TITLE"
Hawks roll through bracket to top Vanderbilt, FDU & Wisconsin-Whitewater.

READING, Pa.-The UMES women's bowling team likes Reading, Pa. and Heister Lanes, the
site of the Kutztown Invitational. Some would say it's been good to them, others might suggest
even renaming the event after the Hawks. That's because today the Hawks won their third
straight and fourth overall tournament title in the six years Kuztown has been hosting the event.
They also have an individual and team 300 at those lanes and a second-place finish for good
measure.

But in the 2014 version, UMES, seeded fourth heading into the final bracket, topped second-
seeded Wisconsin-Whitewater 4-2 in the finals to claim the title and along the way knocked
down top-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson (FDU) and third-seeded Vanderbilt.

"Our girls are tough," said head coach Kayla Bandy. "I'm proud of them, they never stopped
fighting, they have a killer instinct and a never say die attitude."

That can be easily witnessed in one glaring statistic this season. In Baker matches UMES now
stands at 33-0, undefeated in the team format.

"I wasn't even aware of that," said Bandy. "But I'm not surprised. Our girls not only band
together. We have a great bench. Our six, seven and eight bowlers are always ready and can
compete with other teams' starters."

They did more than compete today. UMES opened with the third-seed, Vanderbilt and the two
rivals traded blows like heavyweight fighters. The Commodores took game one 204-193 but the
Hawks rebounded to take game two 235-213. Vandy struck again in game three, 218-201.
UMES quickly tied the match in game four with a 204-186 win. They took the lead in game five
with a 204-171 win. Needing one more to win the Hawks were in a position to get it but missed
a spare and tied game six at 190. Vanderbilt won game seven 168-160 and force a tiebreaker.
UMES dominated the five-frame set 129-103 and advanced to the second round.

In the second match of the day UMES would face top-seed FDU who fell in the opener to
Wisconsin-Whitewater (UWW). The Hawks would trot out the same lineup to face the Knights.
Megan Buja (Rockford, Ill.), Victoria Jones (Baltimore, Md.), Tatiana Munoz (Ibague Tolima,
Colombia) would again lead-off the Hawk attack. Mariana Alvarado (Leon, Mexico) and Sara
Pelayo (Distrito Federal, Mexico) would switch places in the fourth and fifth spots. They were
shaky to start with FDU taking game one 222-159. UMES rebounded to take game two 205-198
despite struggling on the lanes. Alvarado went back into anchor in the second game and it paid
off as she doubled in tenth frame to secure the win.

In game three the Hawks took advantage of a pair of missed spares from FDU to win 199-189.
Game four went to FDU to tie the match at two apiece. Both teams missed spares late in the
game but a Knight strike in the ninth secured the win.

Game five looked to be going FDU's way with four straight strikes. But things looked up as the
Knights then missed four spares in a row. UMES took advantage with a double in the tenth to
leave FDU without numbers and was a 202-190 win.

Game six saw the Hawks post a turkey (three strikes in a row) early and an impressive 3-6-7
spare conversion from Jones. They looked ready to win but Pelayo left an 8-pin in the ninth and
FDU threw their own turkey to close the gap. Like she did all day Alvarado stepped up big again
and struck in the tenth to give UMES the 205-203 win and a ticket to the finals to meet UWW.

"Those were great wins," said Bandy. "Marianna [Alvarado] was struggling a little in those,
which for her still means she was doing good, but Vikki [Jones] and Tati [Munoz] were striking
like crazy. They were a big part of the wins."

Next up was Wisconsin-Whitewater, the alma mater of Assistant Coach Tyler Schmitz. The
battle of the Hawks and WarHawks was on and UMES got off to a rocky start. Despite starting
with four in a row, the Hawks left three splits in a row to end the match and fall 216-183.

Game two was more to UMES' liking. They took that game 208-171. In game three the match
went back and forth. When it came down to the tenth UWW could win by striking out. That
would give them a one pin win, but it wasn't to be and the spare and strike combination meant
UMES won 203-193.

In the next game the Hawks took a commanding lead, so commanding that they split in the tenth
and still won, 182-173. Up 3-1 UMES struggled in game five and fell 182-168.

Game six was a pressure cooker. The two teams went back and forth but UWW held a slim lead
throughout. Every time UMES marked, the WarHawks matched them. It seemed like the match
was heading toward a game seven. But Munoz, now bowling in the fourth spot, struck in the
ninth and Wisconsin-Whitewater spared. That left the door open for Alvarado. With ice water
in her veins she calmly drilled the first ball into the pocket for a strike. UWW needed a strike to
ensure a win. They didn't get it. Alvarado walked up again and the arm was on repeat, drilling
the pocket for a second strike. UWW had to convert. They did, setting up a dramatic fill-ball
fight.

If Alvarado stuck, Wisconsin-Whitewater could do the same to force a tie at 206. If Alvarado
missed, UWW had to get more to win. Alvarado made sure that was impossible, again drilling
the pocket and ensuring at least a tie. The junior All-American was cold-blooded in the anchor
spot, feeling no pressure. The WarHawk anchor wasn't as confident, throwing a good shot, but
getting just nine and giving UMES the 206-205 win.

"It was a great team effort today," said Bandy. "It is a great way to start off 2014, hopefully we
can keep the momentum going down in Texas."

UMES heads to Arlington, Texas this coming weekend for the Prairie View Invitational a
tournament they took runner-up honors in last year.

For her efforts, Alvarado was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Kutztown Invitational.
She was seventh overall with a 211 average. Munoz, who only bowled five of the six team
games was also top ten in average, sporting over a 210.

SIMON, ALVARADO NAMED UMES PRMC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Simon sets two records this weekend; Alvarado makes All-Tournament Team in Kutztown

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.-UMES indoor track athlete Dillon Simon (Pottersville, Dominica) and
bowling junior Mariana Alvarado (Leon, Mexico) have been named the University of Maryland Eastern
Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on January 28h. This
is fourth time Simon has been named to this award, and the first time for Alvarado.

Junior Dillon Simon set two records this past weekend at the Navy Invitational. In the weight throw,
Dillon shattered his own previous school record with a distance of 19.61 meters. The mark qualified for
the IC4A Championships and narrowly missed the Navy Fieldhouse record of 20.07 meters. Simon did
set a field house record in the shot put, throwing for a distance of 18.64 meters. That mark broke the
record of 18.31 meters, set in 2012. Along with the records, Simon finished first in both events.

Alvarado shined as the bowling team won the tournament at Kutztown Invite in Reading, Pennsylvania.
In six individual games, Mariana averaged 211.7 pins per game with a high game of 247. However, it was
the Baker games that set Alvarado apart. Mariana, who serves as anchor, bowling the 5th and 10th frames,
rolled three consecutive strikes in the championship game, earning the title by a single pin. Over the
course of the season, Alvarado has averaged 204 pins per game in individuals and has contributed greatly
to the team's 33-0 Baker record.

The track team travels to New York for the Columbia Meet this Saturday, while the bowling team will
travel to Arlington, Texas for the Prairie View A&M Invitational.

Women's Collegiate Bowling
"MARIANNA ALVARADO NAMED MEAC BOWLER OF THE WEEK"
Hawk junior strikes out to secure third straight event title for UMES.

NORFOLK, Va.-University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) All-America bowler
Marianna Alvarado (Leon, Mexico) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) Bowling Athlete of the Week, for the past week ending January 26, 2014 the
league announced yesterday.

Alvarado was sensational for UMES, who won their third straight Kutztown Invitational
title this past weekend. Alvarado, who earned All-Tournament Team honors for her play
in team games with a 211 average, was more impressive in Bakers. The anchor for the
Hawks helped continue the streak of undefeated Baker games. UMES stands at 33-0 in
the format this season and none were bigger than the last.

Alvarado threw three strikes to fill the tenth frame when the pressure was on to give
UMES a comeback win over No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater in the championship match.

MCCOY, UMES HOLDS ON TO END SKID
Freshman Mariah McCoy scored career-high to end Lady Hawks' skid

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - A day after a snowy night in Princess Anne, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore
(UMES) women's basketball team held on to defeat New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), 68-61, to end a 10-

With less than eight minutes to go in regulation, the Lady Hawks held a one-point lead, 44-43, until UMES went on a
15-5 run in the next three minutes to extend their lead to eleven, 59-48, including a triple from Shawnee Sweeney
(Chester, Va.). NJIT responded by going on a 11-2 run to narrow the deficit to two-points, 61-59, with only two
minutes in the game. The Lady Hawks kept their composure and ended the contest on a 7-2 run, including five

a layup from Udoji, 23-17. In the next six minutes, NJIT gradually trimmed the deficit down to two-points, 23-21, but a
long ball from McCoy increased the lead back to five points, 26-21. The Highlanders' Alana Dudley nailed a three-
pointer to close the half to make the score, 26-24.

For the Highlanders, Martina Matejcikova also set a new career-high, recording 27 points, including 10-for-16 from
the field, while Uju Nwankwo added 14 points and eight boards in the loss.

UMES ALUM, TIM PARHAM, KEEPING HAWK BASKETBALL ON THE MAP
Parham now a motion-capture simulator for 2k Sports, in his eighth playing season as a pro

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball program has seen its fair
share of great players throughout the years, but no one may have made as big of a splash globally than former power
forward, Tim Parham. Although he has never played in the NBA, he has had the ability to entertain millions across
the world.

He has done all of this doing the thing he loves the most.

Playing basketball.

The 6'9 forward has seen his fair share of time abroad over the past decade. He has accumulated eight years of
professional basketball experience and is currently playing with the Halifax Rainmen of the Canadian Professional
Basketball League. In his professional career, he has had played in 14 countries with stops in Poland, Germany,
Venezuela, Mexico, Japan, Dominican Republic, Chile, Taiwan, Turkey, Bolivia, United Arab Emirates and Peru.
Parham has two separate tenures in four of the aforementioned countries.

His basketball career has also helped him secure a spot as an action simulator with EA Sports in its NBA 2k series.
The avid video gamer began working with the 2k series in some of its college basketball versions while he was still
at UMES, but he took a more active role in 2011. That year he was selected to be a motion-capture model for
NBA2K11. The piece sold 5.5 million copies worldwide.

"Being able to do the moves for your favorite video game is a blessing," said Parham. "I was playing basketball in
Japan and was contacted by a 2k sports rep saying they remembered me from their college basketball video game.
They looked up some of my YouTube videos and were impressed. So, they asked me to do the motion capture."

Parham declined the offer at first, but a broken wrist two weeks later gave him a new thought process towards the
idea.

"I came back to Chicago and told them what happened," said Parham. "I asked if they still needed my services.
Luckily, they told me they could work around it, so they flew me to Oakland a couple of days later. It was a big man
shoot. The other participants didn't show up or were injured so I did eight hours for two days by myself. I took on
the challenge and did a great job, so good they gave me my own signature package."

He has helped create shot, layup and dunk simulation for 2k Sports. His job has included putting on motion sensors
and doing basketball movements. The movements are then edited and put into the game and onto the screen. TP
actually has his own free throw, dunk and jump shot package that players can choose to play with.

"That's one of my hobbies that turned into something global," said Parham. "If you scroll through when you're
editing or creating a player and you keep scrolling through LeBron and Kobe and Dwyane Wade and everybody,
you see TP on there. That's me."

As a Hawk, Parham played three seasons with UMES from 2003-2006. He originally played at Ellworth Community
College but decided to come to Princess Anne after his freshman year. He averaged a double-double as senior and
was named to the All-MEAC Second Team. The forward led the MEAC in rebounds-per-game and had a MEAC-
best nine double-doubles as a junior. In his three years, he averaged 10.7 ppg and 7.7 ppg.

Following UMES, he was drafted by the Bakersfield Jam in the fifth-round (No. 59) of the NBA D-League in 2006.
The stint was short, but gave him the ability to move his basketball career overseas. The extensive resume has given
Parham whole a new perspective, one that he has used to make a difference in the US and across the globe.

"It has been a journey," said Parham. "But it is such a great feeling to get off a 14 hour flight and get to a new
country, ready to impose my will. My favorite part was playing in Dubai or Istanbul, both of which have great
basketball and are very beautiful."

Perhaps the greatest part about Parham's story is his ability to never forget his roots.

"UMES shaped my professional career tremendously," said Parham. "They gave me the opportunity to showcase my
talents at the highest level of college basketball. They believed in me the entire time. This is my eighth year playing
professionally and I owe a lot of that to UMES. They challenged me every day."

SIMON EARNS INDOOR TRACK PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Simon captured two records this past week at Navy Invitational

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Univeristy of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) junior Dillon Simon earned the Mid-
Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) honor of Men's Field Athlete of the Week, which was announced by the
conference today. This is the first time Simon has been awarded this honor, which will go along with his four UMES
Athlete of the Week nominations.

Dillon competed in the shot put and the weight throw during last Saturday's Navy Invitational at the Wesley A. Brown
Field House in Annapolis. In the weight throw, he set the school record for the fourth time this season, shattering his
own previous mark with a distance of 19.61 meters. As for the shot put, Dillon fell just shy of breaking the school
record of 18.72 set by Kimani Korton in 2007, but his mark of 18.64 meters broke the Brown Field House record of
18.31 meters set in 2012.

Over the course of the season, Simon has earned six top finishes overall, with three victories in the shot put and
three victories in the weight throw. He also holds two second place finishes as well. Dillon has also met qualification
standards for the IC4A, which will hold championships in Boston this March.

Dillon and the rest of his track teammates travel to New York City for the Columbia Meet this Saturday.

UMES SOFTBALL LOOKS TO IMPROVE UPON LAST SEASON
The Lady Hawks added multiple newcomers to established veteran casts

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Next Friday (02/07), the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team opens
its 2014 campaign in Charleston, S.C. to compete in the Charleston Southern Tournament and looks to improve from
last season. In his ninth overall season, UMES Softball head coach Sam Douglas adds new blood to his established
veteran casts, led by Morgan King (Danville, Ill.), Vanessa Gomez (Belleville, N.J.), and Chelsea Alston (Matawan,
N.J.).

"We have a good mixture of youth and leadership on the team," Douglas stated. "Last season, our returners gained a
lot of experience and this season will provide guidance for our newcomers."

LAST SEASON

The Lady Hawks finished 14-35 overall (5-13 MEAC) and did not qualify for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) Softball Tournament, located in Ormond Beach, Fla. at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex. The team
finished fifth in the MEAC Northern Division, behind Hampton (2013 MEAC Champions), Norfolk State, Delaware
State, and Coppin State.

LOST PLAYERS

The softball team lost three players from last season, Belen Benitez, Carmen Gurrola, and Jasmine James. Benitez
was the number two pitcher for the Lady Hawks, appearing in 24 contests (18 starts). In those appearances, Benitez
pitched 92.1 innings; including five compete games, and struck out 25 batters. Gurrola was UMES' ace as she
appeared in 39 games (31 starts) while winning 12 contests. Gurrola also struck out 106 batters in 225.2 innings of
work, including eight complete games. Last season, James led the team in batting average (.350) and on-base
percentage (.444) while being named to the 2013 MEAC All-Conference Second Team.

THE RETURNERS

The Lady Hawks return nine players from last season and many were either freshman or new to the program. Gomez
is among the top returners for UMES as she finished her 2013 campaign posting a .304 batting average. Gomez led
the team in categories, such as hits (51), walks (24), and stolen bases (31) while being selected to the 2013 MEAC
All-Conference Second Team. King, a member of the 2013 MEAC Preseason All-Conference Team, was second on
the team in batting average (.325), behind James (.350). King also led the team in several offensive categories,
including slugging percentage (.468), RBIs (34), and home runs (4). Last season, Alston finished just under .300
(.293) while starting all 49 games for the Lady Hawks.

Other notable Hawk returners include Emily Diseroad (Manchester, Md.), Trenece Nash (Decatur, Ga.), Rachel
Vander Ven (Dover, Del.), Cherokee Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.), Ina Chestnut (Clinton, Md.), and Carmen
Frazier (Montgomery Village, Md.).

In 2013, Diseroad played and started 42 games while generating 21 hits and 11 RBIs. Nash started all 49 contests for
UMES and led the team in doubles (11). Last season, Vander Ven appeared in 39 games (34 starts) and posted the
highest fielding percentage of any Lady Hawk (.984). Williams missed only one game and started 45 contests to
finish second on the team in stolen bases (22), behind Gomez (31). Chestnut saw action in 23 contests (seven starts)
while Frazier appeared in 26 games (15 starts) for the Lady Hawks.

INDOOR TRACK NYC BOUND AGAIN FOR COLUMBIA MEET
Hawks prep for second trip of three to the Big Apple

PRINCESS ANNE, MD. - As the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) gets ready to embark on the final
month of their indoor track season, they will make the first of two February trips to New York City this Saturday as
they will participate in the Columbia Invitational. Both the men and women will travel together for the first time in two
weeks.

So far this season, the Hawks indoor track teams have combined for 31 first place finishes and three record breaking
performances. Junior Dillon Simon (Pottersville, Dominica) has led the way with six top finishes and two records.
Last Saturday at the Navy Invitational, Simon reset the school record in the weight throw with a distance of 19.61
meters and set the Wesley Brown Field House record in the shot put with a distance of 18.64 meters. The
performance earned Dillon the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's field athlete of the week this past
Thursday.

Other top performances for the Hawks include freshman Jared Kerr (Brampton, Ontario, Canada), who has four wins
and a team high distance in the triple jump, at 14.65 meters, and junior Gayon Evans (Clarendon, Jamaica), with
three wins and a school record in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.34 seconds. Freshman Rachel Halmon
(Waldorf, Md.) and sophomore Shantol Hemley (St. Catherine's, Jamaica) each have notched personal victories in
the mile run and the 500 meter dash, respectively, to go along with two relay wins a piece. On the men's side, senior
Aaron Chatman (Waldorf, Md.) has earned two victories in dashes and one relay race.

Four of those 31 victories came in meets that took place last weekend. In addition to Simon's record breaking
performances that captured first place, both the men's and women's 4x400 relay teams earned victories as well. The
men's team of Chatman, Javon Spencer (Montego Bay, Jamaica), Ramone Waite (Kingston, Jamaica) and
Hakeem Harris (Wilmington, Del.) won their race with a time of 3:23.40, while the women's team of Halmon, Hemley,
Evans, and Taylor Folk (Baltimore, Md.) won with a time of 3:56.46.

The Columbia Invitational is a one-day event that runs from 5pm-9pm on Saturday night, and will feature both track
and field events. 35 players along with the coaching staff are preparing to make the trip. The team will return to New
York City next weekend for the two-day Collegiate New Balance Meet.

BAXTER, MCCOY NAMED UMES PRMC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Baxter leads Hawks to win last Saturday; McCoy earns breakout performance last Wednesday

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.-UMES men's basketball freshman Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) and
women's basketball freshman Mariah McCoy (Rock Hill, S.C.) have been named the University of
Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on
February 4th. This is the fifth time Baxter has been named to this award, and the first time for McCoy.

Baxter shined in last Saturday's win versus North Carolina A&T at the Hytche Center. In thirty-one
minutes of playing time, Hakeem compiled 26 points, adding two assists and a rebound. His dunk with
2:24 left in the game along with clutch free throws down the stretch helped stave off a 30-7 A&T run and
seal the win for the Hawks. Baxter has started all but three games this season and currently ranks second
in points per game with 14.6. Hakeem is also averaging four rebounds per game, and has added twenty
assists and twelve steals this season.

McCoy had a breakout performance in the Lady Hawks' non-conference finale versus NJIT last
Wednesday. The South Carolina native doubled her season average in points with her 27 point
performance, going 10-for-17 from the floor and 3-for-8 from the three point line. Mariah also collected a
game high and personal season high eight rebounds, while adding two assists over twenty-nine minutes.
The performance earned her a start in Saturday's game versus North Carolina A&T, where McCoy earned
six points and six rebounds in the game.

Both teams will play tonight at 5:30pm/8pm the Hytche Center versus North Carolina Central, and will
wrap up their homestand with a doubleheader against Coppin State on Saturday.

Collegiate Women's Bowling
"UMES CAN'T TAME TEXAS; TAKES SEVENTH AT PRAIRIE VIEW INVITE"
Hawks go 2-1 on final day but take tough loss to Central Missouri, 4-3.

ARLINGTON, Texas-The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) went 2-1 on the
final day of the 2014 Prairie View A&M Invitational. They lost a heartbreaker to the
University of Central Missouri 4-3, the seventh game by just two pins, to send them to the
bottom of the bracket where they would finish in seventh place for the event.

"We really didn't bowl very well this weekend," said head coach Kayla Bandy. "We
struggled a lot and didn't adjust to the lanes very well. Things didn't go the way we hoped so
we need to get back to the lanes, have some good practices and get ready for the next event."

UMES opened up with a win against conference rival Norfolk State 4-3. While they were
able to secure the win, the Hawks allowed the Spartans to bowl with them. In fact, in all
seven games, the Hawks hit 200 just once, scores very that were very uncharacteristic.
UMES won game one 181-178 but struggled in game two, 189-145. The team rebounded in
game three to shoot the 200 and win 211-191. Norfolk State took advantage of the struggles
in games four and five, winning 175-170 and 160-150. UMES hung on to win 175-171 in
game six and then roll a solid 192-157 in the seventh for the win.

In the 211 third game Megan Buja (Rockford, Ill.) spared in the first frame and the fifth.
Sara Pelayo (Distrito Federal, Mexcio) was also clean with a strike and spare. Victoria Jones
(Baltimore, Md.) tossed strikes in both her third and eighth frames and Tatiana Munoz
(Ibague Tolima, Colombia) struck in the fourth and ninth. Marianna Alvarado (Leon,
Mexico) opened in the fifth but spared and struck in the tenth. UMES only had one open in
the game, but in the match Buja was the only bowler of the seven who saw action not to
open.

After facing NSU, the only team the Hawks didn't see the first two days, bracket play began
and the Hawks took on the nation's third-ranked team, the University of Central Missouri.
They topped UCM yesterday, but today the fifth seeded Hawks and eighth-seeded Jennies
squared off with a different outcome.

The two heavyweights slugged it out, each bowling well. UMES took game one 201-168 but
UCM rattled off wins in games two, three and four (227-183, 223-192, 223-209). The
Hawks came back in game five with a solid 217-188 win and in game six both teams
struggled with UMES getting a win 176-174.

Coming down to game seven the two teams went back and forth. For UMES, Buja opened
with a spare and Jones followed with the same and so did Pelayo and Munoz. Alvarado
finally broke through with a strike and Buja followed that with another spare. Jones struck,
Pelayo spared and Munoz followed with a spare.

All the while, Central Missouri matched the Hawks, staying clean. It would come down to
the anchors. Alvarado needed a strike to win, but got a spare and seven, giving UCM the
two-pin 200-198 win and the match 4-3.

That loss sent UMES down to the bottom of the bracket which meant that the Jennies could
bowl for fifth, while the Hawks could do no better than seventh.

They would get that spot with a 4.5-0.5 win over Valparaiso, avenging yesterday's one-pin
loss. The Hawks rolled in the first match 183-149 before the Crusaders tied them in game
two at 177. After that is was all Hawks. UMES took game three 259-173, 224-206 and 204-
186. UMES was quickly the first to four and out shot Valpo by 156 pins.

Nebraska, whom UMES topped yesterday, would go on to win the tournament. Vanderbilt,
who UMES topped on Friday was second. No. 1 Arkansas State finished third while Sam
Houston State was fourth. Stephen F. Austin, another one of the Hawks eight wins on the
weekend, took fifth while Central Missouri was sixth. Valpo was eighth behind UMES while
Prairie View A&M and Jackson State were ninth and tenth. Norfolk State and Texas
Southern rounded out the field.

UMES takes a weekend off before heading back to the lone star state for their first Kat Klash
in Houston February 14-16.

BAXTER COLLECTS TWO PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Freshman named College Sports Madness MEAC Player of the Week, MEAC Rookie of the
Week

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Freshman Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) picked up a pair of men's basketball awards on
Monday as the guard was named the College Sports Madness MEAC Player of the Week, before the conference selected
him as the MEAC Rookie of the Week. Baxter now has five awards on the season, including a trio of MEAC Rookie of the
Week distinctions and Lindy's Sports Preseason Newcomer of the Year.

Baxter was the difference in UMES' 67-60 victory over North Carolina A&T on Saturday. The freshman tallied 26 points and
was 12-of-13 from the free-throw line. He scored four of the Hawk's final six points, shot 6-of-11 from the field (52-
percent) and had two assists. Baxter now has four 20-plus point games on the season and is 4-for-9 from long-range in
the past five games. His play has been consistent all season and his ability to slash to the hoop has allowed UMES to
spread its offense.

Baxter was named MEAC Rookie of the Week on Nov. 25 and Dec. 9. His Lindy's Sports MEAC Newcomer of the Year laurel
came in Oct. He has the second most MEAC Rookie of the Week awards of any player in the conference this year. The
Philadelphia product is also the only Hawk to secure a College Sports Madness honor this regular season.

North Carolina Central's Jeremy Ingram was named MEAC Player of the Week, while Du-Vaughn Maxwell claimed MEAC
Defensive Player of the Week honors.

UMES looks to continue its winning ways today, Feb. 3, when the men host North Carolina Central at the William P. Hytche
Athletic Center at 7:30 p.m. NCCU holds an 18-16 advantage in the history of the series.

Whether it be in the dash, the relay, or the field event, the Hawks have compiled 31 wins and three record performances. This past Saturday, the team added four more wins and a new record in various events at the Columbia Invitational in New York City. Junior Gayon Evans (Clarendon, Jamaica) finished first in the 60 meter dash finals with her time of 7.52 meters. The finish marked the fourth win for Evans, with three individual victories and one in the relay. Freshman Jared Kerr (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) took the top distance in the long jump, with 7.18 meters, his sixth victory this season. The men's 4x400 relay team of senior Aaron Chatman (Waldorf, Md.), senior Ramone Waite (Kingston, Jamaica), Kerr, and senior Javon Spencer (Montego Bay, Jamaica) won the event with a time of 3:15.05, making it the fourth UMES relay win this year. The fourth UMES win came from junior Dillon Simon (Pottersville, Dominica), who won his seventh event this year with a first place finish in the shot put. This included a Navy field house record of 18.64 meters of January 11th that fell just shy of the school record. Last Saturday, Simon eclipsed the school record, throwing for a distance of 18.81 meters, edging out Kimani Korton's 2007 record of 18.72 meters. The school record is the third Simon has acquired this year, going along with his field house record and a school record in the weight throw that he has topped four times this season alone. University of Maryland Eastern Shore Department of Intercollegiate Athletics FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: DAVE WHIGHAM 443-235-6647 FEBRUARY 3, 2014 HAWKS FALL JUST SHORT IN MEAC LOSS TO N.C. CENTRAL Baxter scores game-high 17 points, UMES shoots 65-percent from the floor in first-half PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - For the second straight game, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team electrified its home crowd, but the valiant Hawk effort came up just short, as the men fell, 66-62, to North Carolina Central on Monday night. The contest was a tight affair throughout, with each team countering the other's charge from start to finish. The two each shot over 45-percent from the floor and had 28 assists combined. With the loss, UMES falls to 3-16, 1-6 MEAC, while N.C. Central improves to 16-5, 7-1 MEAC. UMES held a one-point lead, 61-60, after two consecutive made free-throws by senior Francis Ezeiru (Enugu, Nigeria) with two minutes left in the game. The Hawk lead held into the next possession but two offensive rebounds, followed by a foul and two made free-throws by NCCU's Emmanuel Chapman swung the one-point advantage to the visitors. The N.C. Central advantage held true the rest of the way, as UMES came up just short to the MEAC's top ranked team. The Hawks and Eagles engaged in a tight contest right from the get go. A layup by freshman Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave UMES a one-point lead, 11-10, at the 13:30 mark, before NCCU scored nine unanswered points. UMES went to work on the eight-point deficit as the men used five points by senior Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.) and a dunk by senior Francis Ezieru (Enugu, Nigeria) to bring the game to within one three minutes later. UMES took the lead once again, 29-28, after a layup by freshman Shane Randall (Philadelphia, Pa.) at the 4:02 mark. The Hawks held a one-point lead until NCCU's final possession, but a three-pointer by Dante Holmes gave the Eagles a 41- 39 lead at intermission. UMES shot a season-high 65-percent from the floor in the frame. The men held a 10-9 advantage on the glass and had nine assists, four of which were from junior Ishaq Pitt (Brooklyn, N.Y.) The game remained within one possession through the first two minutes of the second. NCCU went on a 6-1 push across a 1:30 span to take a five-point lead, 50-45, with 15 minutes left to play. A layup by Ezeiru cut the Hawk deficit to three but the game would go scoreless for the next three minutes. UMES used an acrobatic layup by Pitt to cap a 7-2 run at the 8:48 mark. A quick Eagle push turned the fortunes and gave NCCU a lead of up to five points, but the Hawks came screaming back to take the lead once more, 61-60, after two made free-throws off the backboard by Ezeiru. Chapman responded with charity stripe conversions of his own to give N.C. Central a one-point lead with 1:32 left. It was as close as UMES would get the rest of the way as the Hawks brilliant effort came up just short. The team shot over 40-percent from the floor for the seventh time in their past eight games. UMES was led by Baxter, who scored a game-high 17 points and had five boards. The reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week was 5-for-10 from the field and shot over 50-percent from the field for the fourth time in the past six games. Pitt had eight points and dished out a career-high five assists, while Snyder had 12 points and nine rebounds. N.C. Central had three players in double-digits with Jeremy Ingram leading the way with 14. Emmanuel Chapman had seven assists, while Ingram had three steals and Karamo Jawara had six boards and five points. The Eagles were 0-for-9 from long-range in the second-half, but converted 13 free-throws in the final 20 minutes to settle the difference. The Hawks will conclude their three-game homestand on Saturday, Feb. 8, when the men host Coppin State at 4 p.m. For complete recaps, results and news of Hawk athletics, please visit www.umeshawks.com University of Maryland Eastern Shore Department of Intercollegiate Athletics FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: DAVE WHIGHAM 443-235-6647 FEBRUARY 3, 2014 HAWKS LOOK TO KEEP WINNING IN MATCHUP AGAINST N.C. CENTRAL Hawks look for first winning streak of the year, hold a +33 scoring margin at home PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Fresh off an electrifying win two days ago, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team returns to action tonight, as the Hawks host North Carolina Central University at 7:30 p.m. at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. The Hawks look to secure their first winning streak of the season and first two wins in a row in conference play since 2011. UMES has been tough at home this year as the Hawks hold a +33 scoring advantage in Princess Anne. UMES has not won in the past five contests against N.C. Central. The Eagles hold an 18-16 all-time series lead in the matchup and have won by atleast 17 points in the past three contests. UMES' last win the series was on Jan. 21, 2009, when the Hawks grinded out a 73-68 win in Durham, N.C. The teams are among the elite free-throw shooting units in the MEAC, where the pair stand fourth and fifth at the charity stripe. The Hawks will need freshman Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) to continue his strong play, especially against an electrifying backcourt like that of NCCU. Baxter recently secured College Sports Madness MEAC Player of the Week honors and followed that up with his third MEAC Rookie of the Week distinction. He is averaging 14.4 ppg so far and has played atleast 30 minutes in five of the past seven games. Junior KyRee Jones (Indianapolis, Ind.) stands in the top-10 in scoring in the MEAC (15.4 ppg) and is second in the conference in free-throws (87.5%). The Hawks found success in going with a bigger lineup as senior Pina Guillaume (N'Djamena, Chad) and senior Francis Ezeiru (Enugu, Nigeria) controlled the front court in UMES' game against North Carolina A&T. The Hawks have turned the ball over just 13.2 times-per-game and are shooting 38-percent from the floor. NCCU is being led by Jeremy Ingram, who is averaging 19.4 ppg. Emmanuel Chapman has been fantastic at the point for the Eagles this year and recently broke the school's all-time assists record. He has 138 assists and has been able to dish the ball to Ingram and Alfonzo Houston (10.2 ppg). SIMON TAKES ANOTHER HONOR TO NEW YORK FOR COLLEGIATE NEW BALANCE MEET
Brings along several teammates who also posted excellent finishes this year

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Junior Dillon Simon (Pottersville, Dominica) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference (MEAC) men's field player of the week on Thursday for the second consecutive time, adding to a list of
accomplishments, awards, and records. He and the rest of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) track
and field team will travel to New York City for the third and final time, for the two-day Collegiate New Balance Armory
Invitational Meet.

Simon, who competes in the shot put and weight throw during the indoor season, now has three records, six various
awards from the school and the conference, and seven first place finishes. Last Saturday, he beat his third record,
besting Kimani Korton's seven-year old school record in the shot put, throwing for a distance of 18.81 meters at the
Columbia Meet. The mark gave him his seventh victory and the conference award. Dillon also holds the school record
in the weight throw and the Navy field house record in the shot put, in addition to hitting the qualifying marks for the
IC4A, which will hold championships in March.

However, Simon was not the only UMES track player to take a first place finish home from New York last Saturday.
Junior Gayon Evans (Clarendon, Jamaica) finished the women's 60 meter dash with a time of 7.52 seconds, good
for first place. The top finish gave Evans her third individual victory this season, who also posted a second place
finish in the 200 meter dash.

On the men's side, the 4x400 relay team of seniors Aaron Chatman (Waldorf, Md.), Ramone Waite (Kingston,
Jamaica) and Javon Spencer (Montego Bay, Jamaica), along with freshman Jared Kerr (Brampton, Ontario,
Canada) took first in the race with a time of 3:15.05, earning UMES their fourth men's relay win this year. Chatman
also earned a third place finish in the 200 meter dash (21.99 seconds) and a fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash
(48.12), while his teammate Spencer eclipsed him in the 200 meter with a time of 21.98 seconds for a second place
in that event. Kerr also found success in an event with his performance in the long jump, winning the event while
jumping for a distance of 7.18 meters. That finish was good for Kerr's fifth top place this year, and the fourth in the
long jump alone.

The two-day Collegiate New Balance Armory Invitational was selected as the National Meet of the Week by the U.S.
Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) and will feature over 100 colleges and
universities from across the country. More information about the event can be found on the venue's website,

LADY HAWKS DROP TWO IN CSU TOURNAMENT OPENER
The softball team falls to Charleston Southern & UNC-Wilmington

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) softball team was unable to pick-up a
victory on the first day of the Charleston Southern Tournament as they fell to the Buccaneers, 5-1, to open the
tournament. Later on, the Lady Hawks were held scoreless as they lost to UNC-Wilmington (UNCW), 7-0. With both
losses, Maryland Eastern Shore dropped to 0-2 on the young season.

In the first contest versus Charleston Southern, UMES scored once on four hits, led by Morgan King (Danville, Ill).
King registered three of the Lady Hawks' four hits in the game as she went a perfect 3-3 from the plate, including a
solo homer. Abria Tinsley (Sewell, N.J.) made her Hawk debut and demonstrated a strong performance. Tinsley
pitched four innings while allowing no runs, one hit, and struck out three Buccaneer batters.

Scoreless after three innings, King put the Lady Hawks on the board first as she went deep down the leftfield line to
give UMES an early lead, 1-0. Charleston Southern responded, scoring five unanswered runs in the next two innings,
including a two-run shot from Hayes Holdsworth. Maryland Eastern Shore dropped their season opener, 5-1.

In the second game of the day, the Lady Hawks faced UNC-Wilmington looking to rebound, but the Seahawks were
the better team on this day. Again, UMES was unable to find any offensive rhythm as they were held to four hits,
including two hits from King.

Maryland Eastern Shore trailed, 2-0, after four innings until the bottom of the fifth where UNCW opened the game
wide-open. The Seahawks scored five runs in the innings, including a lead-off double by Lauren Moore, to put the
game out-of-reach. The Lady Hawks battled but the Seahawks' Peyton Jordan was too much for UMES. Jordan went
the distance, seven innings, while recording eight strikeouts in the victory.

Tomorrow (02/08/14), the Lady Hawks take on Elon University. Game-time is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. (EST) Later
on; UMES faces the Buccaneers in a re-match. First-pitch is slated for approximately 1:00 p.m. (EST)

ELON TAKES TWO FROM LADY HAWKS
UMES Softball unable to slow down Phoenix's bats

CHARLESTON, S.C. - On the final day of the Charleston Southern Tournament, the University of Maryland Eastern
Shore (UMES) softball team ran into a hot Elon University team as they dropped contests, 9-0 & 11-0, respectively.
With both losses, the Lady Hawks fell to 0-5 overall while Phoenix improved to 3-0 on the season.

In the first game, Maryland Eastern Shore managed to muster three hits from Allison Anderson (Colorado Springs,
Colo.), Carmen Frazier (Montgomery Village, Md.), and Trenece Nash (Decatur, Ga.). This contest was a
continuation from yesterday's schedule game, which was suspended due to darkness.

A homer from Grace Eng gave Elon an early 1-0 lead after two innings until Phoenix bats came alive. UMES was
unable to slow down Elon's momentum as they scored eight runs in the next two innings, capped off by a three-run
shot by Phoenix's Emily Cameron in the third inning. The Lady Hawks fought, but could not find any rhythm
offensively as they fell, 9-0.

Elon's Alli Burdette pitched five innings while allowing only three UMES hits and struck out six batters in the victory.

In game two, Nash was the lone Lady Hawk to get a hit as they the bats were held silent for most of the game.

In the first inning, Phoenix jumped out to an early lead, 3-0, including another three-run homer from Cameron. In the
next two innings, Kaitlyn Hitch (Delmar, Del.) kept Maryland Eastern Shore in the game as she held Elon scoreless,
but Phoenix would make their move. Elon scored eight runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined, including five in
the fifth inning. UMES never gave in, but the deficit was too great to overcome as they fell, 11-0.

For Elon, Eve Clausen and Caitlin O'Shea combined to hold the Lady Hawks' to one hit while Cameron and Emily
Roper each recorded three RBIs in the win.

In less than two weeks (02/21-02/23), Maryland Eastern Shore returns to the field as they head down south to
Greensboro, N.C. to compete in the North Carolina A&T Tournament. Please check www.umeshawks.com for times

HAWKS MAKE WAY SOUTH FOR MEAC MATCHUP AGAINST HAMPTON
UMES looks to win at HU for first time since 2000, Snyder averaging 13 ppg over last three

HAMPTON, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team continues its Mid-Eastern
Athletic Conference schedule on Monday night as the Hawks are set for battle against Hampton University at 8 p.m.
UMES stands at 12th in the MEAC, while Hampton is among the conference's elite in fourth. The contest is one of
two road contests for the Hawks in the month of February.

The Hawks are looking to win at Hampton for the first time since 2000 as UMES has lost the last six games to the
Pirates. The men are also looking to snap the nation's longest road losing streak, which sits at 31 games since 2011.
UMES has been exceptional at home, however, where the men have a +22 scoring advantage in eight games. HU
leads the all-time series record, 22-6.

UMES (3-17, 1-7 MEAC) will look for senior Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.) to continue his strong play. The forward is
averaging 13 points-per-game over his last three games and led UMES in points, rebounds, assists, steals and
minutes against Coppin State on Saturday. Snyder has atleast six boards in each of his past four games and has five
steals in that span. Junior KyRee Jones (Indianapolis, Ind.) has scored in double-digits in 11 of his past 13 games,
while freshman Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) has run the point efficiently all season. Freshman Shane Randall
(Philadelphia, Pa.) has started in three of the past four games.

Hampton (12-11. 7-3 MEAC) is being paced by Du'Vaughn Maxwell, who leads the team in points (15.1), rebounds
(6.9) and blocks (3.3). Maxwell's block total leads the MEAC. Deron Powers has stood up to his MEAC Rookie of the
Year honor last season as he is averaging 11.0 ppg and leads the team with a 84-percent clip from the charity stripe.
Hampton features a young squad, but have a +1.7 scoring advantage and are averaging 38.2 rpg.

Let's take a look at a few game notes for today's matchup:

- LAST TIME OUT: UMES fell to Coppin State, 58-50, this past Saturday night. UMES used a jumper by KyRee
Jones to take a three-point lead, 50-47, with just under five minutes to go. The points were the best the Hawks got
the rest of the way as Coppin State closed the game on a 9-0 run. The Hawks led for the majority of the contest, but
the strong final push by CSU proved to be too much. Troy Snyder had a game-high 15 points and nine boards

- MATCHUP AGAINST HU: HU holds a 22-6 record all-time against UMES. The Hawks have lost the last six games
against Hampton and have not defeated the Pirates since the 2007-08 season. UMES has not scored 70 points in a
contest against HU since 2006.

- HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS: UMES holds a +22 scoring advantage at home this season with all three wins at
the W.P. Hytche Center. The team is shooting 43 FG%, nearly eight points higher than on the road (35.6%). UMES
has shot atleast 40% in three of the past four home games

- BAXTER BACKING IT UP: Freshman Hakeem Baxter has been nothing short of brilliant to open his collegiate
career. He has been named MEAC Rookie of the Week three times (11/25, 12/9, 2/3) and is in the top-3 in seven
statistical categories. He was named CSM Player of the Week on Feb. 2

- STREAKY JONES: KyRee Jones recently had two streaks end. He had made 20 consecutive free-throws across a
four-game span end against Norfolk State (Jan. 11). He also saw a seven-game double-digit point streak end in the
game. He has atleast 10 points in 11 of his last 13 games

HAMPTON, Va. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's basketball team fell to Hampton University, 54-
35, despite hanging tough with the conference elite team. With the setback, the Lady Hawks dropped to 5-16 overall (1-8
MEAC) while Hampton improved to 20-4 (11-0 MEAC) on the season.

Maryland Eastern Shore held the Lady Pirates to 25-percent shooting, 18-of-72 from the field. Junior Shawnee Sweeney
(Chester, Va.) notched a team-high 15 points, including 4-for-7 from downtown, while freshman Mariah McCoy added eight
points and three boards in the loss.

Sweeney nailed a three ball to open the second half, 32-20, but the Lady Pirates were in control as they went on an 11-2 run
and held their biggest lead of the contest, 43-22, with less than 13 minutes in regulation. Within the next five minutes, UMES
narrowed the deficit to fourteen, 45-31, but Hampton closed the game on a 9-4 run to win, 54-35.

find any offensive rhythm as they shot only 13-percent, 4-of-32, in the first half. Hampton took a fifteen-point halftime lead, 32-
17.

victory.

UMES CLOSES NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE WITH BOUT AGAINST NJIT
Hawks lead 2-0 in series all-time, Snyder averaging 16.8 ppg over past six games

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team will play its final non-
conference game of the season on Wednesday night as the Hawks are set for action against New Jersey Institute of
Technology at 7 p.m. The game is the final of three consecutive for UMES, who will be playing its sixth home game since
the beginning of February.

The Hawks (4-19, 2-9 MEAC) hold a 2-0 record all-time against NJIT. The two teams have not played each other in over
five years as the last contest between the pair was in 2008. In UMES' first game that season against the Highlanders, the
Hawks defeated NJIT, 45-42, to secure the first ever win of the Frankie Allen era. The points scored by NJIT were the
lowest allowed by a Hawk squad under Allen to date. UMES holds a +10 scoring margin in the games.

Senior Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.) has been fantastic in February. The forward is averaging 8.0 rebounds-per-game and
16.8 points-per-game in six games this month. He has scored 12 points in all but one game in February, including a
career-high 34 in UMES' 20-point come-from-behind victory over Howard on Homecoming. Junior KyRee Jones
(Indianapolis, Ind.) returns from a sickness, while freshman Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) and senior Francis
Ezeiru (Enugu, Nigeria) look to get past injuries sustained in Saturday's loss against Morgan State.

UMES is averaging 63.9 ppg but have scored 70 points in each of their past two games. The Hawks have put together 50-
point halves twice in the past two games and have a +20 scoring margin at home this season.

NJIT is 11-15 on the year. The Highlanders have picked up several noteworthy road wins this season, including victories at
Army, New Hampshire and Maine. NJIT is averaging 72.0 ppg this year and hold a +1.3 scoring margin over its opponents.
Damon Lynn is the top scorer with 16.8 ppg and Tim Coleman leads in blocks-per-game (0.85) and steal-per-game (0.92).
Terrence Smith is scoring 12.1 ppg, but is seventh in the NCAA with a 60.7-percent clip from the field. A victory in the
game would give NJIT its most road wins in a season since it became a Division I program.

Let's check out a few game notes of today' contest.

UMES HITS THE ROAD FOR FOUR-GAME SERIES WITH GEORGIA SOUTHERN
Repine to start in Friday' opener, Hawks look to slow down hot Eagles lineup

STATESBORO, Ga. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball team will stay on the road for its next several
games as the Hawks head to Georgia Southern for a four-game set beginning this Friday, Feb. 21. The Hawks will play
Friday night at 6 p.m., before engaging in a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. The series will conclude on

SNYDER, KING NAMED UMES PRMC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Snyder shines in three performances; King putting on hitting display to start season

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.-Men's basketball senior Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.) and softball junior
Morgan King (Danville, Ill.) have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula
Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on February 25th. This is the second
time Snyder has been named to this award and the first time for King.

Snyder narrowly missed last week's award with his 34 point performance at Howard back on February
15th. He did not disappoint in three games this past week either. On Monday against Morgan State, Snyder
scored 21 points, good for second on the team. A double-double followed versus NJIT on Wednesday,
when he scored 24 points and grabbed 14 boards as the Hawks nearly completed the comeback against
the Highlanders. Finally on Saturday, Snyder grinded out 20 points against the Delaware State Hornets.
With this second-half push, Troy has upped his season average in points per game to eleven, and he leads
all Hawks with 6.4 rebounds per game.

King has put on a clinic in hitting in her first nine games this season. Her .500 average is the best on the
team, and she has tallied four homeruns and fourteen RBIs over the course of the season, leading to a
slugging percentage of 1.077. King's marquee performance came in the Hawks win against Rider, when
she went 2-for-3 with a grand slam, seven RBIs and four runs scored. Morgan added four more RBIs in a
3-for-4 effort against Morgan State, and in a rematch with Rider, she collected two RBIs and two runs
scored while going 2-for-3 again.

Troy and the rest of the men's team will host Hampton Monday night at the Hytche Center before
traveling to Coppin State on Saturday. Morgan and the softball travels to Coastal Carolina University for
a tournament this weekend.

HAMPTON SINKS LADY HAWKS
Lady Pirates' tough defense too much for UMES

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's basketball team ran into the
top team in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), Hampton University, and lost to the final score, 90-62.

With the loss, Maryland Eastern Shore dropped to 7-18 overall (3-10 MEAC) while the Lady Pirates improved to 23-4
(14-0 MEAC) on the season.

Despite the setback, the Lady Hawks outrebounded Hampton, 61-47, led by Ashleigh Claybrooks (Manassas, Va.)
posting her eighth double-double of the season, 11 points and 15 rebounds. Junior guard Jessica Long (Fort
Washington, Md.) had a team-high 19 points while grabbing five boards in the loss.

In the first four minutes after halftime, both teams came out of sluggish as they committed 12 fouls combined, but
Hampton was able to increase their lead over the span, 56-25. Back-to-back freebies from Long trimmed the deficit,
66-38, with over 10 minutes in regulation. The Lady Hawks fought and clawed all game, but Hampton was too much
as they knocked off Maryland Eastern Shore, 90-62.

Freshmen Briana Mack (Harrisburg, Pa.) and Briana Sye (Harrisburg, Pa.) each registered new career-highs. Mack
scored eight points, including a perfect 3-of-3, from the floor while Sye added seven points in a losing effort.

A three-pointer by Long gave the Lady Hawks an early lead, 3-2, but the lead would be short-lived. The Lady Pirates
clamped down on the defensive end as they outscored the Lady Hawks, 18-2, to take a commanding lead, 20-5, with
less than 12 minutes before intermission. Over the next six minutes, Hampton continued to put the pressure on as
they balloon the lead to twenty, 32-12. The Lady Pirates closed the half on an 11-3 run to lead, 43-15.

SNYDER NETS DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN UMES LOSS TO HAMPTON
Hawks allow 62 points in second-half, four UMES players notch double-digit point totals

HAMPTON, Va. - Senior Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.) notched his third double-double in the past five games, but his effort
was not to be mirrored by his teammates, as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team fell to
Hampton, 104-89, before 1,038 at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center on Monday night. The points scored in the game
was the second most of the season for the Hawks. UMES has now lost eight consecutive to Hampton.

With the decision, UMES drops to 4-22, 2-11 MEAC, while Hampton ups its record to 16-11, 11-3 MEAC.

Hampton's Deron Powers buried two threes in the first two minutes of action to give Hampton a 6-0 lead. UMES would stay
within two possessions until the 16:48 mark when two free-throws by junior Ishaq Pitt (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and a layup by
senior Troy Snyder (Chicago, Ill.) brought UMES to within one, 8-7.

The Hawks would stay behind in the game until a three-pointer by freshman Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) gave
UMES a two point lead, 14-12, with 14:10 left. Hampton responded with a 16-4 run over the next four minutes of action to
take a ten-point lead with half a period to go. UMES slowly went to work on the deficit and eventually tied the game at 42
on a tip-in by Snyder with just under two left, before a layup by Pitt with 12 seconds on the clock gave UMES a 44-42 lead
at intermission.

UMES shot 45-percent in the half and had two players score double-digits. UMES dominated in the paint with a 22-18
advantage, but allowed seven offensive rebounds to the Pirates.

A three by Snyder on UMES' first possession of the second gave the Hawks a five-point lead. Hampton tied the game up
two minutes later, before five points by freshman Devon Walker (Philadelphia, Pa.) propelled the Hawks another five
point lead. The game remained within one possession before a 14-2 push by the Pirates across a three-minute span gave
HU a 72-59 lead with 8:18 to go.

It was all Hampton the rest of the way as the run proved to be too much for UMES to overcome. Hampton shot 60-percent
from the floor in the second and out-rebounded the Hawks 23-11 in the frame.

UMES was led in the game by Snyder, who notched 23 points and 10 rebounds. He was 10-of-18 from the floor in 39
minutes. Walker had 19 points and drilled three three-pointers, while Pitt had a season-high 15 points. Baxter had 14
points and dished out four assists in a game-high 40 minutes. UMES shot just 26-percent from long-range in the game,
but scored 27 points off of turnovers.

Hampton was paced by two players with double-double efforts. Du'Vaughn Maxwell had 16 points and 10 boards with
seven assists, while Jervon Pressley had 12 points and 12 boards. Deron Powers had a team-high 20 points and five
assists. Brian Darden scored 14 points courtesy of a 4-for-9 effort from long-range, while Breon Key had 12 points.

UMES returns to action on Saturday, March 1 at 4 p.m., when the Hawks hit the road for Coppin State. The game is the
first of two consecutive for UMES as they conclude the regular season with two road games and one home match against
Delaware State on March 6.
