I will be posting Capital Classic results here each day. Feel free to make comments or report scores before I get to them. Tommorow's Dover- Postlethwait games at 6:00 and 7:15 should be the most crowded and perhaps the most exciting games of the entire tournament. Might want to get there early in case we sell out. Dovers big man is out for the tournament with a high ankle sprain so the rematch should be closer and the Dover girls should defend their court better as well. The Delaware State University Cheerleaders and the DHS Drum Line "Rolling Thunder" are scheduled to perform!! A full schedule and seedings are in a lower post.

I'm sorry. What is the Capital Classic?

End of season Middle School Basketball tournament where the best teams can play each other. It started out mostly with downstate teams but over the last couple of years expanded statewide. Now, teams IMHO opinion can be a defacto Middle School State Champion, instead of people saying this team or this team is the best now they have the opportunity to prove it! NO EXCUSES. It's one of the best run tournaments period!

Plus, kids get to play in a packed gym in a payoff environment.

NEWSFLASH Prestige Academy Boys Team dropped out of the tournament today due to "season ending injuries and disciplinary sanctions to players"

Smyrna Boys Team (7-4) will take their place and play Beacon on Thursday night at 4:45 at Mariner Middle. The winner will take on W.T. Chipman at Woodbridge High School. We are proud to add CR High School Announcer Jay McCormick to our staff and he will do the Mariner games on Thursday.
Dedicated Smyrna Coach and School Counselor Al Oshenske stepped up and got it approved in a few hours with the AD, Principal and an emergency meeting with the players.

Just curious...which kid was Gordon Powell? Terrance Ross scored 25 of 40 pts in Dover's first game then 21 of the 49 in the championship game for an average of 23 in the tournament & didn't earn MVP honors if I'm reading that right?

Gordon probably lyrics avg a double double while blocking shots too. It's more than scoring. Terrance take the shots Gordon does the dirty work

I 100% AGREE it is more than just scoring & more so how U effect the overall game which is why I am high on Smyrna's Nwankwo & he only averages about 10 ppg...but when you average more than half your team's points in a tournament it just kind of stands out. I watched the first half of Dover's game vs Postlethwait Monday though & am familiar w/ some of the players & just wasn't sure which one was Gordon Powell...# or height?

Smyrna kid could easily be POY but bc we live in an Era that looks at pts as the deciding factor he won't get it. They will vote for matthews first.

You are a smart man & I couldn't agree more. Nwankwo would be on my 1st Team All State ballot easily if I had a vote but just as I have heard others talk about how offensively limited that he is I'm thinking that he won't get the votes. I remember a few years back when Kentucky won the National championship Anthony Davis was the MVP & only had like 6 points in the championship game because of the effect he had on the game on the defensive end alone stuffing the stat sheet w/ rebounds & blocks. This is the type of effect that Nwankwo has on the game that allows Smyrna to hold opponents to only about 40 ppg.
