Indiana Wrestling to Host Chattanooga in Regular Season Finale

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––––
Indiana Wrestling will close out their regular season this Sunday on Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. as the Hoosiers host the Chattanooga Mocs in Wilkinson Hall.

REGULAR SEASON FINALE:
· To commemorate the last home meet, it will be a dual celebration for the Indiana program.
· The meet will serve as both Senior Day and Alumni Day where graduating seniors and alumni of the program will be honored.
· The graduating seniors include Brock Hudkins, Paul Konrath, Diego Lemley, Jonathan Moran, Garrett Hoffman, and Sammy Cokeley.

CHATTANOOGA PREVIEW:
· Chattanooga enters the weekend on a two-meet winning streak and a 7-10 overall record.
· The Mocs’ 5-2 conference record currently has them slotted at third in the Southern Conference.
· Chattanooga is led by Fabian Gutierrez (125) and Brayden Palmer (133). Gutierrez owns a 16-5 record while Palmer is 21-5.
· Gutierrez is ranked No. 22 for the 125-lb class and Palmer is No. 19 for the 133-lb class.

LAST WEEKEND REWIND:
· The Hoosiers lost both of their bouts last weekend against No. 3 Michigan and at No. 6 Ohio State.
· Brock Hudkins (133), Graham Rooks (149), and Derek Gilcher (157) all added victories to their season records.
· In rare circumstance, Indiana’s Garrett Hoffman (197) got to wrestle against his brother Gavin Hoffman of Ohio State in an exhibition match at Columbus last Sunday.

STATEMENT-MAKER:
· A 1-1 weekend record isn’t going to pop off the stat sheet, but redshirt junior Graham Rooks certainly impressed last weekend in his performances against two ranked opponents from Michigan and Ohio State.

· Against Michigan, Rooks defeated No. 22 Kanen Storr while maintaining control the entire bout, winning by a 4-1 decision.
· Just two days later, Rooks went down to the wire with No. 2 Sammy Sasso of Ohio State, falling just short in a tightly contested bout and a 3-1 final score.
· With Rooks’ performances, he proved he can compete with anyone in the country.

POSTSEASON LOOMING:
· After this weekend, all that’s remaining for the season, are the Big Ten Championships and NCAA Championships.
· The Hoosiers will be in Lincoln, Neb. on March 5 and 6 for the Big Ten Championships and in Detroit, Mich. from March 17-19 for the NCAA Championships.

IN THE LATEST POLLS:
· In the latest edition of the National Rankings from InterMat, the Hoosiers had two wrestlers ranked for their respective weight classes.
· Graduate student Brock Hudkins (133) was slotted at No. 11 in the country.
· Redshirt sophomore D.J. Washington (184) was placed at No. 17 in the 184-lb. class.
