Today the Delaware Department of Public Health approved the plan for the individual tournament to be hosted at Cape Henlopen High School. Designed primarily by Buddy Lloyd and Cape's AD Kevin Smith and Coach Chris Mattioni, the tournament plan allows Delaware to conduct a safe event that includes the participation of every wrestling team in the state.
The three-day tournament, taking place Saturday 2/27, Sunday 2/28 and Wednesday 3/3, will feature double-elimination, 32-man brackets with wrestling to 8th place, medals to 6th and team points to determine a Division I and a Division II team State Champion/Runner-up. Each team will have the opportunity to enter one wrestler per weight class. Seeding to 8th based on criteria already used in the past with random placement after 8th seed. Wrestling will take place on 6 mats.
There will be no spectators at the tournament in following DPH guidelines regarding safe distancing of participants, coaches and staff. The State Wrestling Committee is currently petitioning to allow 2 persons for each finalist but this must be approved by DPH.
The tournament is working on a livestreaming plan that will allow the viewing of every match on every mat for the entire tournament through Trackwrestling. Tournament staff is working to ensure a trained camera operator on each mat to provide the best viewing experience for absent parents, relatives and fans. A guide for Trackwrestling is also being worked on to instruct fans how to follow the wrestling through all days and be informed of results.
Current schedule of events will follow.
Information specific to wrestlers, teams, coaches and schools will be forwarded through official channels.
