#20 Newark Charter (10-7) @ #13 Archmere (12-6). These two teams are conference rivals. NC beat Archmere back in mid june in a 11-6 game. NC jumped out to a 7-1 lead thanks to a big second inning. Archmere battled back scoring 5 runs total in the 4th and 5th innings to get within a run going into the 6 th inning. But NC put up 2 in each of the final two innings to pull away.
Newark Charter had a terrible start to the season going 1-6 against some tough competition…Caravel, RLCA,Appo,CR, Sallies, DMA, Riverdale Baptist. They finished the second half of the season going 9-1. Now the naysayers will comment that NC played much weaker competition in the second half of season being that in the final 9 wins their was only one team with a winning record (archmere), but you have beat the teams on your schedule and that’s what NC did. NC was 3-6 against this years playoff teams. NC is scoring over 6 runs per game and have hit the 3rd most homers of any team this year, 13. Buglio has 6 of them. NC does allow over 5 runs per game on average but it’s a little deceiving. They have held 7 teams to 2 runs or fewer including Sallies. But the other 6 don’t have winning records. But they allowed a lot of runs to the better teams they faced. Matthews is 6-1 on the mound. At the plate 7 different players have each hit a dinger. NC had their first appearance in the post season last year. The first game they beat Archmere 6-2, then lost a 1-0 game to Caravel in the quarters.
Archmere finished the season with 5 straight wins including victories over Sallies and Polytech. Archmere is 5-5 against this years playoff teams, including wins over Concord, Conrad, St G, Sallies and Poly. Archmere is averaging just under 8 runs per game.They have hit 8 homers this year from 6 different guys. They are allowing 4.5 runs per game and are getting good pitching from Nielsen (4-1) and Bice (5-3). Archmere has been to 13 post seasons but hold a 6-13 record in games. They went to the Semis in 2003 but lost.
Prediction: Both teams can score so I’m thinking this could be a high scoring game. I see Archmere getting revenge from last years playoff lost the NC as well as the earlier season loss to NC.
