Monmouth baseball announces class of 2018

Ehehalt welcomes six newcomers

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- The Monmouth University baseball team has announced the commitment of six players to the program for the fall of 2014. Joe Craig (Cherry Hill, N.J.), Aidan Favia (Short Hills, N.J.), Peter Papcun (Brick, N.J.), Matt Littrell (Bayonne, N.J.), Mike Brambilla (Cherry Hill, N.J.), and Justin Trochiano (Morganville, N.J.) will join the MU baseball program next fall.

"Coach Oliveri and Coach Brown did a very nice job putting this group of six together," said Head Coach Dean Ehehalt. "This class really addresses some needs on the field. All of these young men will be great fits as they are high character people and very passionate about baseball. "

Craig, an infielder from Camden Catholic High School, has started at shortstop since his freshman campaign. He was named all-conference first team as a sophomore and junior, along with all-South Jersey accolades and a second team all-state selection as a junior. Last year during his junior season, Craig drove in 25 runs and had an on-base percentage near .600.

Favia is an infielder from Millburn High School, and has been previously named both all-conference and all-county. He helped the Millers to a 23-5 record in 2013, claiming the Super Essex Conference American Division title with a 13-1 mark. In '13, Favia hit .355 with seven doubles, four triples and 12 runs batted in.

Papcun plays both the infield and the outfield for Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, N.J. He was touted as one of the top outfielders in New Jersey by Perfect Game, and was also named to the 17U WWBA All-Tournament Team in Georgia after hitting .400 in the tournament. Papcun helped the Colts to a Shore Conference A-North title in 2013, hitting .310 with 20 runs batted in.

Littrell is a right-handed pitcher at Marist High School, pitching to a 1.80 ERA as a junior en route to being named Second Team All-County. That was preceded by a 9-1 sophomore campaign, including striking out 111 and recording an ERA of just 1.13. He was named to the Perfect Game WWBA 16U All-Tournament Team in 2012, pitching 11 2/3 innings in the tournament and not allowing a run. This past fall, Littrell tossed a no-hitter at the WWBA National Championship Tournament in Jupiter, Fla.

Brambilla is a left-handed pitcher from Cherry Hill East High School, and has been pitching for the varsity squad since his freshman campaign. He was named an Honorable Mention All-American by Perfect Game in 2012 and 2013, and was a member of the All-Tournament team in 2012 for the WWBA 17U squad. In 2013, Brambilla recorded nearly a strikeout per inning, posting a 3.59 ERA and holding opponents to a .220 batting average.

Trochiano plays the infield at Marlboro High School, and has won three varsity letters for the Mustangs. He helped lead Marlboro to the Central Jersey Group 4 State Semifinals as well as the Monmouth County Tournament quarterfinals. Trochiano was named one of the top shortstops in New Jersey by Perfect Game. The infielder also was among team leaders in RBI's with 20 and stolen bases with 15.

The Monmouth baseball team opens the 2014 season on February 14 at The USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at noon, with MU opposing Michigan State and UMass Lowell.

SUBJECT: ; University of Delaware Selected Eighth in Colonial Athletic Association Pre-Season Poll

Date: January 23, 2014

jrc:

RICHMOND, Va. ? The University of Delaware baseball team, who its second consecutive Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) post-season tournament appearance in 2013, was picked to finish eighth in the conference this spring according to the league's head coaches.

The CAA is coming off one of its best baseball season ever as three teams received NCAA Tournament berths for the first time in the 2001 season. Seven CAA teams, including Delaware, reached the 30-win mark for the first time in conference history. The Blue Hens were also one of six teams who hit the 30-win mark in 2012. Delaware went 33-22 overall last season including a 15-12 league mark and finished third overall in the CAA.

"Not exactly the place you want to be picked to finish," said Delaware head coach Jim Sherman. "However, I think coaches around the league realize we are young and that we lost one of the best pitchers in the CAA after his junior year in Chad Kuhl, who signed with the Pirates. We also lost the best offensive player in CAA and Player of Year Jimmy Yezzo after his junior season. It's only what's on paper. We still need to go play the games and we will be okay!"

Two-time defending CAA regular-season champions UNCW, was chosen to win the league's automatic NCAA bid this season while league newcomer, College of Charleston was picked to finish second. The Tribe of William & Mary was selected to place third and last season's CAA tournament champion Towson, wrapped up the top four selections.

This season, Delaware returns junior infielder Brock Niggebrugge who was a 2013 All-CAA second team selection at second base. Niggebrugge is the only 2013 All-CAA selection who will return for the Hens. The Delaware native was one of just three players who started in all 55 games for the Blue Hens and owned a team-best 13-game hit streak. Niggebrugge tallied 51 hits in 180 at bats to register a .283 batting average and ranked second on the squad with 177 assists to go along with 70 putouts.

The Hens also return juniors Joe Giacchino, Ty Warrington, and Zach Lopes along with seniors, E.J. Stolzfus, Alex Mottle, Adam Davis and Dan Gatto.

Giacchino started in 47 games for Delaware in center field while also hitting lead off. Giacchino registered a .307 average totaling 65 hits including 12 doubles, two triples and two homeruns. The outfielder led the Hens with nine stolen bases.

Warrington saw action in 42 games behind the dish for the Hens. The Delaware native caught a team-high 23 runners stealing. Warrington recorded 309 putouts and 38 assists to tally a .994 fielding percentage. He record 39 hits, including seven doubles in his junior campaign.

Lopes and Stolzfus shared time at third base during the 2013 season while Lopes also served as a designated hitter. Lopes recorded a .306 batting average with 12 multi-hit games. Stolzfus registered 41 hits with a .354 average with runners in scoring position. Mottle also served as a designated hitter for Delaware last season. The New Jersey native hit .308 with 16 hits and 10 RBIs in 52 at bats.

On the mound, Delaware returns Davis and Gatto. Davis made 15 appearances with 14 starts last season leading the team with 74 strikeouts. He threw 97 innings for the Hens owning a 3.99 earned run average. Gatto, who appeared in a team second-best 18 games, owned a 4-3 record in 2013. The right-handed pitcher struck out 47 batters and held opponents to a .256 average giving up only 25 earned runs.

Sherman, in his 14th season, welcomes back a total 17 letterwinners and adds 12 newcomers to the squad.

The Blue Hens kick off the 2014 slate at The Citadel on February 14th. Delaware will compete in the Citalel's Homewood Suites Tournament and will face the Citadel, West Virginia and nationally ranked Louisville.

Delaware will begin its home schedule the weekend of February 28, when the Hens welcome the Fordham Rams for a three-game series at Bob Hannah Stadium.

SUBJECT: University of Delaware Baseball Names 2014 Team Captains; Two Earn Preseason CAA Accolades

NEWARK, Del. ? In his 14th season at the helm of the University of Delaware baseball program, head coach Jim Sherman has named team captains for the 2014 slate. Redshirt junior outfielder Joe Giacchino and senior outfielder/designated hitter Alex Mottle will serve as the team's captains for the upcoming season.

"Both of these young men represent the best for the University, on the field and in the classroom," said Sherman. "They each carry over a 3.2 GPA and are outstanding in their dedication and leadership. The duo is truly two of best young men we have ever had to represent our baseball program as captains."

Giacchino started in 47 games for Delaware in center field while also hitting lead off. The West Chester, Pa. native registered a .307 batting average totaling 65 hits including 12 doubles, two triples and two homeruns. The outfielder led the Hens with nine stolen bases on 11 attempts.

"I feel honored and beyond blessed to be named co-captain alongside my great friend, Alex," said Giacchino. "At the end of the day, win or lose, my relationships with my teammates go well beyond the white chalk lines of Bob Hannah Stadium. I truly care for them and have promised to devote myself to both them and the best interests of our team. With that being said, all I want to do is win. And I believe that we have the talent this year to do exactly that."

Last season, Mottle primarily served as a designated hitter for the Hens. The New Jersey native saw action in 34 games for Delaware receiving the starting nod on 10 occasions. The left-handed hitter registered a .308 average with 16 hits and 10 RBIs in 52 at bats.

"When Coach Sherman called me over the summer to tell me I was going to be a captain for this upcoming season, I was extremely honored hearing the news because he saw me as someone who works hard on the field and in the classroom, and as a teammate who all the guys respect," said Mottle. "My expectations for this season are to make a run at the CAA championship. We lost a lot from last years team, four of which are playing professional baseball now, but at the same time we have a lot of experience coming back at several positions and I feel like we will step up to the occasion and fill right in without missing a beat."

In other Delaware baseball news, two members of the 2014 squad were named to the Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Team. Juniors Brock Niggebrugge and Ty Warrington, both Delaware natives, earned honorable mention honors on the pre-season team.

Niggebrugge is the only returner for the Hens who received All-CAA honors in 2013. The short stop started in all 55 games for Delaware last season and owned a team-best 13-game hit streak. Niggebrugge tallied 51 hits in 180 at bats to register a .283 batting average and ranked second on the squad with 177 assists to go along with 70 putouts.

Warrington saw action in 42 games behind the plate for the Blue Hens and caught a team-high 23 runners stealing. Warrington recorded 309 putouts and 38 assists to tally a .994 fielding percentage. He record 39 hits, including seven doubles, in his sophomore campaign.

Delaware opens the 2014 season in less than a month when the Hens travel to Charleston, S.C. to play in The Citadel's Homewood Suites Tournament. The Hens open with The Citadel on Friday, Feb. 14 then will play West Virginia on Saturday, Feb. 15. Delaware wraps up the tournament on Sunday, Feb. 16 when the Blue Hens take on preseason No. 16/20 Louisville.

Re: UD/DSU Natl Baseball Links and Reports

For Immediate Release ? January 31, 2014

LSU coach Paul Mainieri met with reporters Friday during the Tigers' annual Media Day activities in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. LSU, ranked No. 2 in the USA TODAY preseason poll, will open the 2014 season at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 14 versus New Orleans in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. Following are Mainieri quotes from Friday's press conference:

LSU Head Coach Paul Mainieri

"Welcome everybody. I was giving you one more strike. In baseball, we have three strikes. We canceled this thing (Media Day) two times already so we were going to give it one more shot. I thought I should start talking like John Facenda. Welcome to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. Except it should be welcome to the frozen tundra of Alex Box Stadium. It is crazy what we have been dealing with in this last week. I've been asked several times if it reminds me of coaching in South Bend with the ice and so forth, and it did until I got in my car, and I didn't have an ice scrapper. That thing made a big difference."

"This was a real challenging week. It was obviously unique. We were so excited to get started last Friday with being with you all and getting in a practice. Then I woke to a text from our president, King Alexander, saying school was closed. Obviously we were very disappointed, but he made the right decision. I am so glad he, the governor and mayor made those decisions and did the right thing for our city to keep everyone safe. I told everyone last Friday in my eight years here, this was the worst weather I have experienced in Baton Rouge. Little did we know a couple days later on Tuesday we would be experiencing the same thing. We got set back a little bit, but not that much. We had a nice scrimmage yesterday, and we will scrimmage today and tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will stay dry enough for us on Sunday for us to scrimmage. I think we are right on target where we need to be."

"We are two weeks away from Opening Day, February 14. I think we are exactly where we need to be. (Aaron) Nola will throw three innings today. (Cody) Glenn will throw today once, but he will throw again in the middle of the week. Over the weekend, we will have (Kyle) Bouman throw three innings and (Henri) Faucheux will throw three innings. Our starting pitchers are starting to get extended a little bit. By the time we start our first game, I think our hitters will have 30 to 40 at-bats in our intrasquad scrimmages. They are making a lot of plays. Honestly, I think we are right on target and ready to go. Everyone is excited. Most everyone is healthy. I feel like the team is starting to round into shape in terms of figuring out who we are going to go with. We are getting close to making those decisions."

"We are obviously very excited about Opening Day. Opening Day will be very special for me personally. We are playing the University of New Orleans, and my mentor and second father, Ron Maestri, is back in the dugout for the Privateers. That will be very unique for me. I am not sure I am going to enjoy it that much. I will enjoy it when it is over, but it's going to be great seeing Coach Maestri back in the dugout and contributing to the UNO program again."

"The opening game against UNO begins a 56-game schedule. There will be a lot of exciting moments. In the middle of March we open up with Vanderbilt with our 30-game schedule in the SEC. By then, I think we will have a pretty good grasp on our team. There is no hiding the fact that we have lost a lot outstanding players from last year's team. Particularly, Raph Rhymes who led the nation in hitting two years ago, Mason Katz who led the SEC in home runs last year, Chris Cotton who was our all-world closer last year, and of course our starting catcher, our second baseman, and a lot of guys from the bullpen."

"We have a lot of big shoes to fill. Out here people don't want to hear excuses. They just want to see you reload and get ready to go. Fortunately for us we have a good foundation of players returning. I really like some of our new players. I think they will be ready to go. We are ready to get after it. I think we have a team that is going to be able to make a run again. Our goal every year is to roll out of bed and expect to go to Omaha to play for a national championship. In order to do that you have to compete very favorably in the SEC. I think we have a team that can do that. I am looking forward to it. We still have a way to go to put the team in that position, but it will be a great journey. I am looking forward to it."

Player Quotes - LSU BASEBALL MEDIA DAY

January 31, 2014

OF Jared Foster

On LSU having the best outfield in the country…

“I honestly think so. It is like one big glove out there. We have been improving in practice and all of the scrimmages. We are fast. People will see it once we start playing. We are really fast out there. Not a lot of balls will drop.”

On what he needs to do to get the starting job…

“I need to hit. I need to be able to stay consistent. That is not a surprise. That is what is expected of us every day. SEC Tournament last year is a prime example of having to stay on your toes. You have to stay on your toes, stay on your game and be ready at any point.”

On playing outfield…

“I had never played outfield at all until about 10 games into my freshman year of college. It was a little intimidating at first. I had to try to get the routes down and learn how to track the balls. It was a little difficult at first but I feel great now. It feels like home now.”

On losing last year’s big hitters…

“We might not have those guys who are going to hit 16 home runs in a season anymore. But, we are going to have a consistent lineup all the way through. Everyone is going to contribute. No one slacks off. It is going to be one solid lineup all the way through. When we put runners in scoring position, we might not need that home run, but we need to be able to get them in.”

OF Sean McMullen

On the opening series against UNO…

“I am really looking forward to that. It is kind of like a homecoming for me. I remember when I was in junior college and high school, and watching Mason [Katz] come back. I would go to all of those games. They (family and friends) just have given me so much love and support. It is just nice to know that. I have a bunch of friends on UNO’s team and it is going to be nice to play against them again. I think it is going to be some really good moments for us.”

On the challenges of winning in the SEC and getting to the postseason…

“That is the first thing Coach Mainieri told us in our first meeting, the season does not start in Omaha. We realize how hard it is to get there and we also realize what it takes. We are going to go through a lot of games this season where it is going to be really emotional whether it is good or bad. Every team faces adversity as far as losses and injuries. I am just looking forward to making those memories this year and getting the ball rolling.”

RHP Aaron Nola

On the strength of the pitching staff…

“We have a lot of strength. We lost a lot of really good guys last year, but we also had a lot of guys come back this year. They are solid. I think it is really going to come together. I don’t think I could name just one main guy right now. It is really all just starting to come together. But the fans are going to see what we can do.”

On his improvements from last season…

“I feel like I have just matured a little bit more. My pitches have gotten a little better. I did a lot of work on that. I also think I have gotten a little smarter pitching-wise. I am still working on all of my stuff.”

On going 0-2 in Omaha last year…

“I don’t like to focus on that too often any more. We have to come back ready for a new season. There are a lot of positives to making the postseason. We just have to feed off of that. It has put a little bit of a fire in our team. It is going to take a while and we are going to take it one game at a time.”

On playing in the SEC…

“You have to come ready to play each day. The SEC is not a joke. Every player is one of the best. You cannot underestimate any player that steps on the field. Our team knows that. Also, you cannot let up just because it is a team that not many people have heard of. Just like in Super Regionals sometimes you have a team that not many people have heard of, but they are now one of the best in the country. We are ready to go. We are not taking many days off. We are going to work hard and do our best each day.”

On feeling more pressure as a starter…

“I don’t really feel more pressure. I like coming in and being able to throw a lot of innings. That is fun for me. Coach Mainieri is going to figure out the lineup and who is going to fill the spots. There is no reason to worry about that. We have a lot of guys who can throw and will do a lot of good things for us.”

On opening weekend…

“I am like a lot of other guys on the team. We are anxious to get back on the field again and play another team. We have only been able to play against ourselves. It has been a while since we have been able to play against another team in front of all of our fans in Alex Box. We are ready to go.”

What Aaron Nola took away from last season...

“We are still just working on all of my pitches. Like I said, I kind of got a little smarter in the way that I am trying to learn the hitter better. That way I can throw the ball where I want it.”

SS Alex Bregman

On his leadership this year compared to last year…

“I kind of led in a different way last year. I felt like I was not leading vocally as much. I think this year I need to take over more of a vocal leadership role and I think Aaron Nola does too. I think both of us will lead.”

On the mental turnaround after North Carolina los that ended the 2013 season…

“Right after we lost that game, I was ready to get back on this mission of winning the National Championship. I think this year, it’s a business trip. Everything we do is about business. I think that’s the mentality everyone on the team is going to take.”

On how the Omaha experience will help the team…

“I think it helps a lot. I think having the experience of what Omaha is like, it’s definitely changed since they won the national championship in 2009. The park has changed, everything has changed. I think it’s big that we have experience this year. We are going to come in knowing what it’s like. Knowing the field and knowing what you have to do to win there. I think it’s huge, but I think we also have to remember that the season doesn’t start in Omaha, it starts February 14, so we have a long way to go.”

C/INF Tyler Moore

On his approach to the game…

“Just coming out every day and doing the best that I can and working as hard as I can, so that I can help this team get to our ultimate goal of getting back to Omaha and winning the national championship.”

On his experience as a catcher…

“Freshman year I caught a little bit and I had the opportunity to catch at South Carolina. I think that’s probably the biggest role I’ve had as a catcher here at LSU. Being in that environment as a catcher really has prepared me for moments like I’m about to be experiencing. I think experience is always a good thing, and just being around this team and being around my brothers and being around this coaching staff is going to help me this whole year.”

On his catching so far…

“There are always areas to improve, especially behind the plate, because it’s one of the most important positions on the field just because you are in every single play and you can see the whole field and everyone else can’t. So I’m really just trying to be a leader back there and leading this whole team and trying to work with the pitchers and be a rock for them.”

SETON HALL BASEBALL PICKED SECOND IN PRESEASON POLL

ANNUNZIATA, PREVOST, SELDEN NAMED TO PRESEASON All-Conference TEAM

NEW YORK, N.Y. ? The Seton Hall baseball team has been selected to finish second in the BIG EAST Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced by the conference office on Thursday. The Pirates placed just one point behind Creighton for the top spot.

Junior Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) and seniors Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) and Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) were all named to the 2014 Preseason All-Conference Team. Prevost was a unanimous selection.

The ranking and all-conference selections were made by a vote of the seven BIG EAST coaches. Creighton, Seton Hall and St. John's were the only schools to receive first-place votes. St. John's received the most first-place votes (three), despite placing third in the overall poll. Creighton and Seton Hall received two first-place votes apiece.

Since winning the 2011 BIG EAST Championship, Seton Hall has regularly out-played its preseason ranking. In 2012, the Pirates were picked to finish fifth and placed third. Last season, the Hall was picked to finish sixth and tied for second place.

Annunziata is the lone returnee of six All-Conference selections from 2013. The Third Team pick was also a First Team All-NJCBA selection and led Seton Hall with six home runs. The slugging first baseman batted .319 in 52 games last season with 38 RBIs and committed just three errors in 544 chances in the field.

Prevost took a major step forward as a regular starter in 2013. A Second Team All-NJCBA selection, the 6-foot-8 right-hander compiled a 5-2 record with a career-best 3.24 ERA. With standouts Jon Prosinski and Greg Terhune having graduated, Prevost will be looked upon to anchor the Pirates' rotation in 2014. He is one of only four unanimous selections to the preseason team this year.

Selden was also named to the All-NJCBA Second Team last season. A versatile defender, he saw action at both third base and the outfield. A regular in the Seton Hall lineup, Selden batted a career-best .320 in 51 games with two home runs, 33 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.

Creighton nabbed both the Preseason Player of the Year, Mike Gerber, and the Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Tommy Strunc. The Bluejays also landed four players on the Preseason All-Conference Team.

Seton Hall will begin the 2014 campaign on Friday, February 14 for the first of three games at the University of Oklahoma. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET.

American Athletic Conference Baseball on the Horizon

PROVIDENCE, R.I.
? Opening Day is February 14th, as the brutal cold of winter is warmly interrupted by the wondrous sound of the baseball smacking into the catcher's mitt. When the first pitch is thrown, the inaugural season of American Athletic Conference play will be underway, symbolizing a bright direction for the future of the sport in the newly branded conference.

The Teams (Listed in Order of the Preseason Coaches Poll)

Louisville Cardinals

Head Coach: Dan McDonnell

2013 Record: 51-14
The Cardinals are the preseason favorites, coming off an outstanding 2013 season in which they captured the program's fourth regular season conference title in the past five seasons, and used a defeat of No. 2 national seed Vanderbilt to reach the College World Series for the second time in program history. The Cardinals return two big bats in the outfield, in American Preseason Player of the Year Jeff Gardner, who hit .337 with nine home runs and a .632 slugging percentage, and Cole Sturgeon, who hit .339 with 13 stolen bases. Louisville will look to replace their top two starters from last year with the accession of sophomores Kyle Funkhouser (5-1, 2.14 ERA in 2013) and Anthony Kidston (5-0, 1.31 ERA).

UCF Knights

Head Coach: Terry Rooney

2013 Record: 29-30

UCF will be a team with a lot of new faces and talent in 2014. The Knights bring in 24 new players on the 35-man roster, a mix of 12 freshman and 12 junior college transfers. Offensively UCF does bring back its leading power hitter in 1B James Vasquez, who belted eight home runs last seasonand will look for key contributions from Preseason All-American Athletic Conference DH Bret Gordon (.316).

UConn Huskies

Head Coach: Jim Penders

2013 Record: 35-28

The Huskies will look to return to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in the last five seasons. UConn returns two weekend starters in Anthony Marzi and Jordan Tabakman. Offensively Bobby Melley, Vinny Sienna, and Tom Verdi will compose three fourths of the returning infield, with the exception being departed Second Team All-American L.J. Mazzilli.

Houston Cougars

Head Coach: Todd Whitting

2013 Record: 36-22

The Cougars join The American with a new turf field and after making an 18-game improvement from 2012 to 2013, buoyed by Conference USA Freshman of the Year Justin Montemayor (.329) and Newcomer of the Year Frankie Ratcliff (.300). Houston also sees Casey Grayson (.289 in 2012) and Jacob Lueneburg (.309 in 2012) return from season-ending injuries.

USF Bulls

Head Coach: Lelo Prado

2013 Record: 36-22

The Bulls will look to build on their momentum from the second half of 2013, where they closed the year 22-8 over the final 30 games. USF returns just one of its top five hitters, and will will look for Nik Alfonso, who hit .331 last season, to stabilize the middle infield. On the mound, the Bulls will look to Jimmy Herget (1.72 ERA in 2012), one of the Preseason Pitchers of the Year in the conference, and two key bullpen arms in Jordan Strettmatter (1.75 ERA) and Lawrence Pardo (2.27 ERA).

Memphis Tigers

Head Coach: Daron Schoenrock

2013 Record: 35-24

The Tigers' strength will be their bats this season, led by junior 1B Tucker Tubbs (.327, 4 home runs, .425 slugging percentage) alongside junior C Carter White (.325). OF Jake Little will also look to build off his strong freshman campaign (.299, 4 home runs, .507 slugging percentage, 12 steals).

Rutgers Scarlet Knights

Head Coach: Fred Hill (Interim Coach Joe Litterio)

2013 Record: 28-30

The Scarlet Knights will count on returning position players to offset losses in the rotation. Junior Vinny Zarrillo won the Big East batting title by hitting .407 during conference play, with Steve Zavala (.330) and Nick Favatella (.316) also having strong years at the plate. Rutgers' task will be replacing its weekend starting rotation.

Cincinnati Bearcats

Head Coach: Ty Neal

2013 Record: 24-32

Cincinnati will be led by head coach Ty Neal, who enters his first year at the helm. Neal, a former Cincinnati assistant, returns to the Queen City after spending eight seasons as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Indiana. He will look to revamp a squad that will be keyed by Preserason All-American Ian Happ (.322, six home runs) and senior Ian Glass (.322).

Temple Owls

Head Coach: Ryan Wheeler

2013 Record: 18-28

Temple enters the season with senior co-captain Matt Hockenberry keying the rotation, Ryan Keuhn (2.21 ERA) as the closer, and Derek Peterson (.314, 31 RBI) anchoring the outfield. The Owls will play conference games in Campbell's Field, home of the Camden Riversharks.

Key Players

Nick Burdi, Louisville, RP ? Louisville's fireballing right hander will look to stake his claim as one of the top relievers in the nation after a 0.76 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 35.2 innings last season. Burdi is a projected first round selection in the 2014 MLB Draft and was a First Team All-American with 16 saves last season.

Justin Montemayor, Houston, 3B ? Montemayor had a stellar freshman campaign for the Cougars, leading them in average (.329), hits (73), runs scored (42) and home runs (3). His sophomore year will see him transition from first base to the hot corner as Houston looks to strengthen its overall infield.

Zac Favre, UCF, P ? Favre was a Freshman All-American as a starting pitcher in 2013, appearing in a team-high 32 games and holding opposing hitters to a .186 batting average. His emergence will allow Coach Rooney to move last season's closer Spencer Davis into the weekend rotation, installing Favre as the Knights' primary closer.

Ian Happ, Cincinnati, OF ? Happ will be integral for a rebuilding Bearcats team. After a breakout debut season, he excelled over the summer in the Cape Cod League, and earned multiple preseason national accolades. He moves from second base to right field, and will be a key bat in the middle of the lineup.

Nonconference Games to Watch

Memphis at Mississippi State, February 19 ? Memphis gets an early test, with its fourth game of the year coming in Starkville, Miss. against the 2013 national runner-up. MSU opens the season as high as No. 2 in the national polls, and boasts the largest campus facility for college baseball at Dudy Noble Field.

Houston College Classic (Feb. 28-March 2) ? The Cougars will play three games in a Major League Baseball stadium this season. For the 14th consecutive season they will compete in the College Classic, which will be held at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros.

Louisville at Vanderbilt, May 6 ? Last season, the Cardinals advanced to the College World Series by sweeping both games of a Super Regional in Nashville against the No. 2 Commodores. The rematch comes this year in early May, as Louisville heads back to Hawkins Field for a showdown against a preseason top-10 Vanderbilt squad.

Re: UD/Natl HS Baseball Reports

PREVOST, HAMLIN LEAD SETON HALL BASEBALL TO OPENING DAY WIN

NORMAN, OKLA. ? Senior Josh Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J.) pitched six innings strong innings as the Seton Hall baseball team opened the 2014 season with a 7-5 victory at the University of Oklahoma on Friday.

Prevost gave up four runs, but just one of them was earned, while striking out five batters and walking just two. The historically staunch Pirates' defense committed an uncharacteristic four errors on Friday, which led to four of Oklahoma's five runs.

Senior Dillon Hamlin (Colts Neck, N.J.) and freshman Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) each belted four of Seton Hall's 14 hits on the afternoon. Hamlin went 4-for-5 with his second career home run. Caputo, playing in his first collegiate game, went 4-for-5 with two RBIs. He did however, commit two of the Pirates' four errors.

The Pirates struck for a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) and Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.) reached on back-to-back hit-by-pitches, and Hamlin reached on a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.) grounded into a double-play, but in the process, plated the first Pirate run. Caputo followed with a clutch two-out single down the left field line to put Seton Hall up 2-0.

Seton Hall extended its lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth, scoring two more runs with two outs. Ruhlman reached on an Oklahoma fielding error and stole second. Caputo followed with a triple to center field to score Ruhlman. Sophomore Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) then singled up the middle to score Caputo and put the Pirates up by four runs.

Jenkins was one of four Pirates with multiple hits on the day. The sophomore started in left field and went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in the leadoff position.

Oklahoma finally broke through on Prevost with a sacrifice fly run scored in the bottom of the fourth, but it was the Pirates' defense that let down Seton Hall in the fifth inning. Leading 4-1, Seton Hall gave up three unearned runs on a pair of errors in the bottom of the fifth to tie the score at four.

With one out in the top of the sixth inning, Hamlin launched a home run to deep right field to reclaim the lead for Seton Hall, 5-4.

The Pirates added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Senior Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) hit a one-out double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Annunziata plated Seton Hall's sixth run with a sacrifice fly to right field and Grimm followed with an RBI single to give the Pirates' a 7-4 lead.

From there, the Seton Hall bullpen did a masterful job, holding Oklahoma to just one hit over the final three innings. With left-hander Dan Ditusa (St. Charles, Ill.) pitching in relief of Prevost in the seventh, two more Seton Hall errors led to a fifth Oklahoma run. However, Ditusa, sophomore Sam Burum (Robbinsville, N.J.) and junior Conor Krauss (Randolph, N.J.) held the Sooners scoreless the rest of the way.

Krauss, the Pirates' new closer, worked around a one-out single to earn his second career save.

Seton Hall will resume its three-game series at the University of Oklahoma tomorrow afternoon. Junior Anthony Elia (Flanders, N.J.) will take the mound against the Sooners' Adam Choplick. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET.

NOLA'S SIX SCORELESS INNINGS LEAD NO. 2 LSU OVER NEW ORLEANS IN 2014 SEASON OPENER

BATON ROUGE, La.?LSU junior right-hander Aaron Nola pitched six scoreless innings Friday night, scattering four hits in the second-ranked Tigers' 2-0 win over the University of New Orleans in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

The win was LSU's 13th straight in a season-opening game. The contest was played before a paid crowd of 12,472, the second-largest attendance figure in LSU baseball history.

LSU (1-0) faces UNO (0-1) again at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zephyr Field in Metairie, La. The game will be televised by Cox Sports Television, and it can be heard in Baton Rouge on WTGE 100.7 FM. Live stats and audio will be available at LSUsports.net, and live video is available at ESPN3.com.

Junior left-hander Kyle Bouman will start Saturday's game on the mound for LSU, while the Privateers will counter with right-hander Alex Smith.

Nola (1-0) fired 81 pitches Friday night, recording no walks and six strikeouts in the victory. Junior Joe Broussard provided two innings of strong relief work, allowing Bone walk with two strikeouts.

Senior right-hander Kurt McCune worked a scoreless ninth for the save. McCune struck out two Privateers and forced a groundout to close the game.

"I think we're certainly capable of swinging the bats better than we did tonight," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri, "but overall it was a solid performance. Our guys were just so happy to finally be able to play an actual game after so many practices and scrimmages. Aaron Nola gave us a very strong outing as we know he would, but as I told our players, Aaron is only going to start about 14 of our 56 regular-season games. We can't count on the pitching to carry us every night like it did tonight."

In his debut for the Tigers, junior second baseman Connor Hale singled to right center to begin the third inning. Sophomore left fielder Mark Laird then doubled to left field. With runners on second and third, sophomore shortstop Alex Bregman lined an RBI single to right field to score Hale.

In the bottom of the sixth, junior third baseman Christian Ibarra led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Junior first baseman Tyler Moore then produced a bunt single to advance Ibarra to third. Junior DH Kade Scivicque provided the first RBI of his LSU career with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Starter Raymond Winter (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Privateers. Winter allowed seven hits and two runs in five innings with one walk and two strikeouts. UNO relievers Darron McKigney and Seth Laigast combined to blank the Tigers over the final three innings.

SETON HALL BASEBALL FALLS AT OKLAHOMA, 8-2

NORMAN, OKLA.[/B] ? A day after the Seton Hall bullpen gave up just one hit, it surrendered five runs in three innings as the Pirates fell to Oklahoma, 8-2, suffering its first loss of the season, on Saturday.

Junior starter Anthony Elia (Flanders, N.J.) [/B]pitched well enough to earn the win, allowing three earned runs on just four hits over six innings, but the Seton Hall offense afforded him just two runs of support. Elia picked up his first loss of the season, struck out two and walked three.

A day after banging out 14 hits, Seton Hall mustered just six, four of which came against Oklahoma starter Adam Choplick.

For a second straight game, the Pirates opened up the scoring. In the top of the fourth, senior Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.)[/B] led off with a double to left field. With two outs, he advanced to third on a while pitch and scored the first run of the game on an RBI double by junior Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.)[/B].

The lead however, didn't last long, as the Sooners erupted for three runs on four hits off Elia in the bottom of the fourth. Three Oklahoma singles and a triple did the damage, and Seton Hall found itself in a 3-1 disadvantage after four innings. Elia hadn't surrendered a hit through the game's first three innings.

In the top of the seventh, the Pirates inched closer. Junior Alex Falconi (Freeport, N.Y.)[/B] led off with a single and stole second base. He advanced to third on a ground out by D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.)[/B], and scored on a wild pitch to cut the Oklahoma lead to 3-2.

Oklahoma (1-1) however, blew the game open in the bottom of the seventh. Steve Lombardi (Saddle River, N.J.) [/B]came on in relief of Elia and gave up a one-out walk. Freshman Anthony Pacillo (Lyndhurst, N.J.)[/B] relieved Lombardi and gave up a walk and an infield single, and saw a run come home on his throwing error. Greg Tripold (Colts Neck, N.J.)[/B] became the third Seton Hall pitcher of the inning and gave up back-to-back home runs, and the Sooner lead ballooned to 8-2.

Oklahoma's Shelden Neuse finished the game 2-for-4 with a game-high four RBIs and a home run.

No Pirate had more than one hit. Selden, Grimm and freshman Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.)[/B] all delivered doubles.

Seton Hall (1-1) had two more errors on Saturday, increasing its two-game total to six on the early season. The Pirates committed a BIG EAST-low 48 errors in 56 games last season.

Seton Hall will complete its three-game series at the University of Oklahoma with tomorrow's "rubber" game. Sophomore Luke Cahill (Tinton Falls, N.J.)[/B] will make his first collegiate start against the Sooners' Jake Elliott. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.

LSU IMPROVES POSTS 7-4 WIN OVER NEW ORLEANS AT ZEPHYR FIELD

METAIRIE, La. ? Junior left-hander Kyle Bouman worked five strong innings in his LSU debut and designated hitter Sean McMullen highlighted a three-run second inning with a two-RBI single as the second-ranked Tigers defeated New Orleans, 7-4, before 7,071 fans at Zephyr Field.

LSU (2-0) and UNO (0-2) will each play Sunday in the Major League Baseball Urban Invitational at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. The Privateers will face Southern University at Noon CT and LSU plays host to Grambling State at 4 p.m. CT.

Both games on Sunday will be televised by the MLB Network. The LSU-Grambling game can also be heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network, and live video, audio and stats are available at LSUsports.net.

Freshman left-hander Jared Poche', a native of Lutcher, La., will start Sunday's game on the mound for the Tigers.

Bouman (1-0), a transfer from Jefferson County (Mo.) Community College, gave up a run on three hits in the first inning Saturday, but settled in and retired the final 13 batters he faced. He recorded no walks and one strikeout in his five-inning outing.

"Kyle is a strike-thrower who can keep hitters off balance, and I thought he did a fantastic job," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "After the first inning he really found his rhythm and gave us a great outing."

The Privateers took a 1-0 lead against Bouman in the bottom of the first, but the Tigers responded with three runs in the second. Second baseman Conner Hale lined an RBI single and McMullen drilled a two-run single to highlight the rally.

LSU added a run in the fourth on a run-scoring single by centerfielder Andrew Stevenson, and the Tigers extended the lead to 6-1 in the fourth when shortstop Alex Bregman slapped an RBI single and leftfielder Mark Laird scored on a passed ball.

Back-to-back doubles by Bregman and rightfielder Jared Foster in the sixth gave LSU a 7-1 advantage.

LSU recorded 13 hits in Saturday's game after collecting only seven in a 2-0 win over UNO on Friday night.

"I was pleased with the way we responded after UNO took the lead," Mainieri said, "and overall I thought we swung the bats better than we did last night. We need to continue to build on this momentum, carry it through Sunday's game and finish the weekend strong."

UNO rallied on Saturday with three runs in the sixth, benefitting from three walks issued by junior right-hander Brady Domangue. A two-run single by pinch hitter Jonathan Santana was the lone hit of the inning and trimmed the Tigers' lead to 7-4.

LSU junior left-hander Henri Faucheux, who gave up Santana's single, struck out the side in the seventh, and freshman right-hander Alden Cartwright worked a perfect eighth inning.

Freshman right-hander Parker Bugg picked up his first career save, striking out the final two UNO hitters with the bases loaded.

"All five of the pitchers we saw today were making their LSU debuts," Mainieri said. "It was the first time for each of them to pitch at this level in front of a large crowd, and I thought they handled the pressure well for the most part."

SUBJECT: University of Delaware Baseball Splits Opening Day Doubleheader With 3-1 Win Over West Virginia

DATE: February 15, 2014

jrc:

CHARLESTON, S.C. ? The University of Delaware baseball team spilt it's season opening doubleheader at the Citadel's Homewood Suites Tournament at Joseph P. Riley Park Saturday.

Delaware (1-1) fell to Virginia Tech, 8-1, in the season opener Saturday morning before earning a 3-1 comeback victory over West Virginia University in the afternoon matchup.

In the opener, Virginia Tech (1-1) earned it's first win of the 2014 campaign against the Blue Hens after falling to The Citadel on Friday.

Delaware scored its lone run of the game in the fourth inning when senior infielder E.J. Stoltzfus hit his second double of the contest to score Cameron Travalini who led off the inning with a single. Stoltzfus' two doubles against the Hokies tied his career-high for doubles in a game.

Along with Stoltzfus, Delaware newcomer Norm Donkin led the squad with two hits. The junior college transfer registered his first multi-hit game in a Blue Hen uniform as he notched singles in the fourth and sixth innings. Travalini and senior captain Alex Mottle were the only other Blue Hens to tally a hit on the afternoon.

Delaware starting pitcher Adam Davis took the loss as he faced nine batters in 1.2 innings of work and allowed four hits and two earned runs before leaving with an injury.

The Hokies scored in all but two innings on the way to the victory as second baseman Alex Perez and catcher Mark Zagunis each knocked in two runs.

"It was a tough start with losing our ace (Davis) in the second inning with an arm injury and it set the tone for the rest of the afternoon," said Delaware head coach Jim Sherman about the first game. "We played well at times and received some good pitching, even though the score doesn't indicate it. Not getting outside to face live pitching surely showed."

In the nightcap, West Virginia (0-2) dropped its second consecutive contest as Delaware topped the Mountaineers 3-1 to earn its first victory of the 2014 campaign.

Both Delaware and West Virginia went scoreless through five and a half innings, but the Mountaineers would cash the first run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth to take a 1-0 lead.

Delaware answered in the top of the seventh when junior catcher Ty Warrington doubled to left center field to score Donkin and Tyler Powell. Donkin reached base on a fielder's choice while Powell, who pinch-hit for designated hitter Mottle, received a free pass when he was hit by a pitch.

In Delaware's next at bat, Sherman signaled for a suicide squeeze, and senior first baseman Jake Clark executed it perfectly to score Warrington and put the Hens up 3-1.

Delaware starting right-handed pitcher Dan Gatto went 6.2 innings with four strikeouts and allowed just one earned run and nine hits to register the first win of his senior year. Luke Alicknavitch entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and went 2.1 innings with four strikeouts to earn the save.

Delaware will conclude play Sunday morning against No. 8/20 ranked Louisville. The Hens will throw senior left-handed pitcher Brandon Hinkle.

"Great effort from Gatto tonight," said Sherman. "He was a great example of how to pitch using all his pitches. Warrington had a big two-run double while Giacchino and Travalini made two outstanding catches in the outfield. Alicknavtich came in to pitch a great last 2.1 innings to get his first collegiate save."

HEN SCRATCHINGS

· Delaware picked up its fourth win in program history over WVU.

· Donkin registered three hits in his first day of NCAA Division I action.

· Warrington tallied the game-winning RBIs against the Mountaineers

· Gatto improves his career record to 10-9

· Junior Brock Niggeburgge has now started in 115 consecutive contests

· The Hens totaled 11 hits over the two games

SETON HALL DOWNED BY OKLAHOMA IN SERIES FINALE, 15-6

NORMAN, OKLA.[/URL] ? Oklahoma scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as the Seton Hall baseball team fell, 15-6, in Sunday's rubber game of the series.

The game, which was three hours and 18 minutes old through eight innings, was called an inning early due to Seton Hall's rapidly approaching airline flight time.

Junior Kyle Grimm (Bergenfield, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Despite coming into the game as a pinch hitter, freshman Joe Poduslenko (Glen Mills, Pa.) also reached base three times, registering a single and a pair of walks.

Oklahoma (2-1) jumped on Seton Hall starter Luke Cahill (Tinton Falls, N.J.) right from the start. Oklahoma batted around as six of the first eight Sooners reached base. Once the first inning ended, the Pirates found themselves in an early 4-0 hole.

Seton Hall (1-2) got a run back in the top of the third. Junior D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.) delivered a one-out double and advanced to third on an error by the Sooners' left fielder. Freshman Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.Y.) drove him in with an RBI ground out. Caputo now has three RBIs already this season.

Cahill ran into trouble again in the bottom of the fourth, putting two runners on with one out. Freshman Zach Prendergast (Horsham, Pa.) came on in relief, but gave up a three-run home run to Oklahoma's Hunter Haley before getting the final two outs.

The Sooners extended their lead to 9-1 before Seton Hall made a rally in the top of the sixth inning. Poduslenko and Derek Jenkins (Annandale, N.J.) both walked to start the inning, chasing Oklahoma starter Jake Elliott from the game. With one out, Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.) walked to load the bases. After Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) went down on strikes for the second out of the inning, three straight Pirate singles resulted in four Seton Hall runs. Grimm's second hit of the day drove in two runs, while singles by pinch hitter John Beaubien (Livingston, N.J.) and Dillon Hamlin (Colts Neck, N.J.) knocked in one run apiece to pull the Pirates to within four runs at 9-5.

But Oklahoma responded in kind in the following half inning. The first four Sooners to bat in the bottom of the sixth reached on singles and before an out was recorded, Oklahoma had extended its lead to 11-5. Seton Hall wouldn't get any closer for the rest of the game.

The Pirates committed four more errors against Oklahoma on Sunday. For the season-opening series, The Hall committed 10 errors. They committed a BIG EAST-low 48 total errors in all 56 games last season.

The series loss is the first for Seton Hall in nearly a year. The Pirates entered the 2014 season having won eight straight weekend series dating back to losses in two of three games at Notre Dame last March.

Seton Hall will return to the diamond on Friday, February 22 when it travels to the University of Richmond for game one of a three-game series. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET.

POCHE' PITCHES LSU PAST GRAMBLING, 6-0

BATON ROUGE, La. -- In his career collegiate start, LSU freshman left-hander Jared Poche' pitched six innings of scoreless baseball Sundy in the Tigers' 6-0 win over Grambling at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

LSU (3-0) faces Southeastern Louisiana (2-1) on Wednesday in Hammond, La. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field. First pitch is at 6 p.m. on Cox Sports Television and the LSU Sports Radio Network.

Grambling fell to 0-3 with Sunday's loss.

Poche', a native of Lutcher, La., struck out three and only allowed four hits with no walks in Sunday's victory.

"Jared is going to be a very good pitcher for us, and we save evidence of that today," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "He is unusually poised for a freshman, and I could tell he was really amped up for this start today with a fastball topping out at over 90 miles per hour.

Also in his collegiate start, second baseman Kramer Robertson provided spectacular defensive work and score three runs to fuel the LSU offense.

"Kramer was a real sparkplug today both with his glove and on the bases," Mainieri said. "He's an excellent all-around athlete with great baseball instincts, and he made some tremendous plays today."

LSU got its first run of the day in the bottom of the second. Catcher Kade Scivicque started off the frame with a single to left before Robertson walked. Centerfield Andrew Stevenson then singled to left field to bring home Scivicque. While leftfielder Chris Sciambra was at the plate, Stevenson and Robertson executed a double steal, allowing Stevenson to score.

The bottom of the fourth produced two more runs for LSU. DH Dakota Dean reached first on a walk, Robertson was hit by a pitch and Stevenson laid down a bunt for a single. Sciambra hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Dean, and shortstop Alex Bregman hit a fly out in foul territory to score Robertson.

Grambling threatened in the top of the sixth after a double by catcher Roger Diaz and a Dion Holbrook single. With runners on the corners, Poche' retired three straight batters via a pop out, a strike out and a ground out.

In the bottom half of the sixth, Robertson reached first on a walk. The freshman advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error by Diaz.

Junior Cody Glenn took the mound for LSU in the top of the seventh in relief of Poche'. Glenn pitched one inning and did not allow a hit.

In the bottom of the seventh, first baseman Chris Chinea hit a solo home run to left field. It was the first home run for LSU on the year and the first of Chinea's career.

Grambling's Brock Baker (0-1) was charged the loss. Baker pitched 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs with three walks and one strikeout.

LSU has a 36-3 mark against Southeastern Louisiana since 1990. Wednesday's game marks LSU's first trip to Hammond since March 10, 2009, when the Tigers posted a 16-5 victory.

LSU has won 33 consecutive regular-season midweek games, dating back to a 5-2 loss to Northwestern State in Baton Rouge on April 12, 2011. That was also the Tigers' last loss to a Louisiana school. LSU has won 31 consecutive games against in-state opponents, including wins this season over New Orleans (twice) and Grambling.

SETON HALL STATUS

Seton Hall opened the 2014 season at the University of Oklahoma last weekend and dropped two out of three contests. The Pirates started the season in style with a 7-5 victory on Friday. Senior Josh Prevost, taking the mound for the first time as the Pirates' Friday starter, pitched six innings and gave up just one earned run to get the win. Senior Dillon Hamlin and freshman Mike Caputo each collected four hits. Hamlin delivered his second career home run in the game, which broke a 4-4 tie. Three relievers combined to allow just one hit and junior Conor Krauss earned the save. On Saturday, Seton Hall fell 8-2. Junior Anthony Elia took the loss despite a solid start. The left-hander gave up three earned runs over six innings. On Sunday, Seton Hall starter Luke Cahill had a rough first career start and took the loss in a 15-6 setback. Kyle Grimm went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the loss. The Pirates will travel to Richmond on Friday for the first of a three-game series. Seton Hall is just 3-6 all-time against the Spiders, but hasn't played them since 2009.

SETON HALL - RICHMOND SERIES

Seton Hall and Richmond will meet for the 10th, 11th, and 12th times in history this weekend, but it'll only be the second three-game series. The Pirates are just 3-6 all-time against the Spiders, but have won two of the last three meetings. Most recently, Seton Hall traveled to Richmond in 2009 and split a pair of high-scoring games. The Pirates won, 14-12, and lost 14-13.

PIRATES TAKE ONE IN NORMAN

Seton Hall won one of three games in their season-opening series at the University of Oklahoma. The Pirates defeated the 28th-ranked Sooners, 7-5, on Feb. 14, before falling on Feb. 15 and 16.

BIG EAST BEST

Senior Josh Prevost was named BIG EAST Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 17. Teammate Dillon Hamlin was added to the conference's Weekly Honor Roll. Prevost receives the honor for the first time in his career. Prevost held 28th-ranked Oklahoma to just one earned run on five hits in Seton Hall's 7-5 opening day victory. Hamlin batted .556 in two games this weekend. On Friday, he recorded a career-high four hits (4-for-5), including his second career home run. The sixth inning blast broke a 4-4 tie and Seton Hall never trailed again.

A GRIMM REALITY

Junior Kyle Grimm had a strong weekend at Oklahoma. He is currently tied for the BIG EAST lead with four RBIs. Grimm went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in Sunday's loss and has recorded at least one hit and one RBI in all three games.

FRESHMAN FIREPOWER

Freshman Mike Caputo has started at second base in each of the season's first three games. Offensively, he's batting .444 with three RBIs. In Seton Hall's opening day win at Oklahoma, Caputo went 4-for-5.

OFF AND RUNNING

Seton Hall is again leading the BIG EAST in steals. The Pirates stole nine bases through the season's first three games and has yet to be caught. In Seton Hall's victory at Oklahoma on Feb. 14, it stole six bases.

NEW BIG EAST

On March 20, the new BIG EAST Conference was unveiled with 10 schools and FOX as the new media rights partner. The 2014 BIG EAST baseball conference will feature seven teams, Butler, Creighton, Georgetown, Seton Hall, St. John's, Villanova and Xavier.

TRIO NET PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE

Junior Sal Annunziata and seniors Josh Prevost and Chris Selden were all named to the 2014 Preseason All-Conference Team. Prevost was a unanimous selection. Creighton nabbed both the Preseason Player of the Year, Mike Gerber, and the Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Tommy Strunc. The Bluejays also landed four players on the Preseason All-Conference Team.

PIRATES PICKED SECOND

The Seton Hall baseball team was picked to finish second, by only one point, among the seven teams of the BIG EAST Conference in the 2014 Preseason Coaches' Poll.

FIRST PITCH DINNER

On Thursday, January 30, the Seton Hall baseball team in conjunction with the Pirate Blue Athletic Fund hosted its first annual First Pitch Dinner at Maplewood Country Club. The event was a celebration of Seton Hall baseball past and present as several former Pirates spanning multiple decades attended the season-opening gala. Among those in attendance were two members of the 1964 College World Series Seton Hall baseball team, John Monteleone and John Sielski. Former Pirate All-American John Morris was the featured speaker.

PIRATES WELCOME 10

Seton Hall announced the addition of 15 newcomers to the team for the 2014 season. The Pirates will welcome Mike Caputo, Joseph DiBenedetto, Brett Ender, Matthew Fortin, Thomas Kelleher, Jackson Martin, Mikael-Ali Mogues, Anthony Pacillo, Joseph Poduslenko, Zachary Prendergast, Anthony Scafidi, Eric Spires, Ryan Testani, Greg Tripold and Nelson Valerio to the squad for the new year.

CBS SPORTS NETWORK BROADCASTS

CBS Sports Network has agreed to air at least four baseball games involving BIG EAST schools in 2014, two of which will feature Seton Hall. The lineup begins on Wednesday, April 23 when Creighton hosts Iowa at 7:30 p.m. The Bluejays will be home for another non-conference foe on CBS Sports Network on Tuesday, April 29 when Nebraska comes to Omaha for a 7:30 p.m. start. The first of two BIG EAST baseball showdowns will air on Friday, May 2 when Creighton entertains Seton Hall to open a three-game series at 7:30 p.m. CBS Sports Network will have the Pirates again when they are home for St. John's for the opener of a three-game set on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m.

LSU Baseball Report

For Immediate Release ? February 19, 2014

SECOND-RANKED TIGERS POST 7-3 WIN OVER SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA

HAMMOND, La. ?Junior left-hander Cody Glenn limited Southeastern Louisiana to one earned run in five innings Wednesday night, and second-ranked LSU broke a 2-2 tie with a four-run sixth inning as the Tigers posted a 7-3 win at Alumni Field.

The game was played in front of a stadium-record crowd of 3,747, as LSU won its 32nd consecutive game against a Louisiana school. The Tigers also increased their win streak in mid-week regular-season games to 34.

LSU (4-0) plays host to Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. Friday in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field. Southeastern (2-2) plays host to George Washington in a three-game series beginning at 1 p.m. Friday.

Glenn (1-0) threw 71 pitches over five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits with one walk and three strikeouts. LSU relievers Nate Fury, Parker Bugg, Joe Broussard and Kurt McCune combined to blank the Lions over the final four innings.

SLU starter Sean Kennel (0-1) was charged with the loss as he surrendered five runs on five hits in 5.2 innings with one walk and three strikeouts.

"Our pitching was very effective again tonight, and I thought we played spectacular defense," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "We knew coming in that this game was going to be a real challenge in a tough environment, and I thought our players handled it well. Southeastern is a difficult team to beat that always plays us tough, and we were able earn a hard-fought victory."

Southeastern grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first. Jacob Williams and Jesse Buratt knocked back-to-back singles to open the bottom of the first for the Lions. After a sacrifice bunt by Jameson Fisher, right fielder Andrew Godbold lined a single up the middle to score Williams.

LSU answered with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Chris Chinea doubled to left with one out and scored on Tyler Moore's two-out double to right-center. Jared Foster plated Moore with a single to left.

Kennel and Glenn settled in, holding the bats at bay over the next few innings. Following a leadoff single in the third, Kennel retired the next nine batters he faced.

The Lions tied the game, 2-2, in the fifth. Gabe Woods led off with a single up the middle, his second hit of the game, and moved up to second on a passed ball by Chinea, the LSU catcher. With one out, Williams produced his second single of the contest to drive in Woods.

As was the case earlier in the game, LSU responded immediately. Mark Laird drew a walk, the first issued by Kennel, to lead off the top of the sixth. Ahead in the count, 1-2, Kennel plunked Alex Bregman to put a pair on base. Connor Hale followed with a single up the middle to load the bases.

Kennel then uncorked a wild pitch, allowing Laird to score from third. Fisher chased the ball down at the backstop, but did not have a play. Believing that time has been called, Fisher tossed the wet ball out of play. Bregman then scored from third, and Hale moved over to take his place, sparking a lengthy discussion at the plate.

Kennel rebounded to retire the next two hitters, but the Tigers would later score on a Foster RBI single and a balk by reliever Matt Pittari to take a 6-2 lead.

Southeastern pushed across its final run in the bottom of the sixth. Fisher, the last batter Glenn faced, was hit by a pitch. Reliever Nate Fury walked Godbold, the first hitter he faced, before Kevin Carr laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners into scoring position.

With two outs, Brett Hoffman chopped a grounder to Bregman at short, but a high throw allowed Hoffman to reach and Fisher to score.

An RBI single by Hale in the LSU ninth accounted for the final margin.

Joe Litterio Named Head Baseball Coach

Rutgers alumnus bring 12 years of head coaching experience

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 20, 2014) ? After working the last two seasons on Fred Hill's staff, Joe Litterio has been promoted to head baseball coach at Rutgers University. He becomes the 12th leader in program history and only the third since 1961.

"I am honored and excited to be taking over the Rutgers University baseball program," Litterio said. "Having had the privilege to be around Coach Hill as a player, a peer and an assistant has been beneficial to me. Being an alum, I will take pride in keeping the Rutgers baseball family together. I would like to thank Julie Hermann for giving me this opportunity. I will work hard to continue the success of the program to bring it to the next level."

"With Coach Hill ailing, Joe took the reins for his alma mater and led our program right through what would have otherwise been a very difficult time for our team," Director of Athletics Julie Hermann said. "We are so grateful for his leadership and so lucky we have a 12-year veteran head coach on deck ready to lead us this season and into the Big Ten."

Returning to his alma mater as the lead assistant in 2012, Litterio has spent the last two seasons on staff as the recruiting coordinator, third base coach, scheduler and more. He helped mentor seven all-conference selections during that time, including 2012 BIG EAST Player of the Year Patrick Kivlehan, who is now a top prospect in the Seattle Mariners organization. Litterio's title was elevated to associate head coach for the 2013 season and he took over the reins of the program in the fall of 2013 after Hill took a leave of absence.

Litterio played for the Scarlet Knights and Hill as an infielder from 1990 to 1993. His teams won the Atlantic 10 regular season title all four years and earned bids to the NCAA Regionals in 1990, 1991 and 1993. The 1990 Rutgers team came within one win of advancing to the College World Series and recorded the most wins (four) in a single NCAA Tournament in school history. A Second-Team All-Atlantic 10 selection at second base after his junior season, Litterio recorded a .976 fielding percentage for a team that was ranked fourth in the nation in fielding.

Litterio has 20 years of coaching experience, including 12 as the head coach at Wagner. He left the program as the winningest coach in school history (240) in 2012, guiding eight players to contracts with Major League teams, including 2009 AL Rookie of the Year and MLB All-Star Andrew Bailey. Litterio led the Seahawks to seven postseason appearances after the program had only qualified once previously in school history.

A tireless worker and recruiter, he won the 2009 Northeast Conference Coach of the Year after leading WC to a school-record 31 wins and the program's first-ever NEC Regular Season Championship. He coached 22 of the Seahawk's 44 members of the 100-hit club, including all seven members of the 200-hit club, and mentored numerous players to All-NEC honors.

The Cranford, N.J., native started his coaching career as a volunteer assistant under Hill immediately following his playing career for the Scarlet Knights before taking a job as coach at Immaculate Conception High School (N.J.). Litterio moved back to the collegiate ranks the following season, landing a job as an assistant coach under Dean Ehehalt at Monmouth University where he spent the next four seasons. The 1998 MU team won the NEC Championship and earned a bid to the NCAA Regionals.

After spending one season at Winthrop University and earning the Big South Championship and subsequent NCAA Regional spot, Litterio accepted the head coaching job at Wagner ? reaching the NCAA Regionals in his first season ? and has gone on to earn a reputation as one of the top coaches in the northeast region.

Litterio and his wife, Michelle, reside in Wall, N.J., with their children ? Frances, Mia and Joe. He earned his degree in sociology from Rutgers University in 1994.

Fred Hill Announces Retirement

Veteran mentor steps down after 37 years and 1,089 career victories

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 20, 2014) ? After 37 years and 1,089 victories at the collegiate level, Rutgers baseball head coach Fred Hill has announced his retirement from coaching, effective immediately. The veteran mentor owns a career record of 1,089-749-9 (.592) overall and 941-658-7 (.588) in 30 seasons at Rutgers. He earned 11 NCAA Regional appearances, 12 regular season conference championships and eight conference tournament titles during his tenure with the Scarlet Knights.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Hill will be recognized by the University for his contributions to Rutgers during tonight's (Feb. 20) basketball game at the Rutgers Athletic Center. He will hold a 6:15 p.m. press conference in the RAC Media Center.

"It has been a heck of a run," Hill said. "I enjoyed every second during my time at Rutgers. Thirty years is a long time, but it came and went very quickly. I want to say thank you to everyone involved."

"Coach Hill gave his passion and purpose to Rutgers baseball for 30 years," Director of Athletics Julie Hermann said. "His contribution to our department is immeasurable both as a coach and a great ambassador of our University. His leadership and inspiration will be missed."

Ranked 32nd in college baseball history in wins, Hill earned his 1,000th career victory April 17, 2010 against USF in front of a record crowd of 1,124 fans at Bainton Field. His final win also came against USF, a thrilling 2-1 victory on May 25, 2013 in an elimination game that sent the Scarlet Knights to the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals.

During his career, Hill sent 72 players to professional baseball and developed 20 All-Americans. Currently, Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds and David DeJesus of the Tampa Bay Rays represent Rutgers in Major League Baseball.

After a successful career as a high school coach in New Jersey, Hill made the jump up to the collegiate level in 1977 at Montclair State. He led the Red Hawks to a 148-91-2 mark in seven seasons, including two NJAC championships, three NCAA Tournament appearances and the Division III World Series in 1983. Hill was also the football coach and went 55-13-4 in the seven years with five NJAC titles. A true representation of his successful contribution to the Montclair State program, the school's athletic department retired his No. 24 jersey in February of 2010 ? only the third number retired in school history.

Hill next decided to make the move to Piscataway in 1984 to become the 11th head coach in Rutgers baseball history. Rebuilding the team into a northeast baseball power, he won eight straight Atlantic 10 regular season titles starting in 1986 to advance RU to the NCAA Tournament five times in that stretch.

Hill continued that success after the program moved to the BIG EAST and became the second-winningest coach in conference history, with 267 victories in the league over 19 seasons. His first championship in the BIG EAST came in 1998 as he earned Coach of the Year honors and won both the regular season and tournament title. That started a stretch of five NCAA berths in six years that included hosting an NCAA Regional in 2000, a rarity for a northeast school.

The 2007 team was among the best for Hill, as it tied the school record with 42 wins and won both the BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles. Named ABCA East Region Coach of the Year, the Scarlet Knights earned the No. 2 seed in the Charlottesville Regional. A school-record six players off that team were selected in the ensuing MLB Draft.

In his final season, Hill guided the Scarlet Knights to the semifinals of the 2013 BIG EAST Championships with two wins facing elimination. The team defeated College World Series participant Louisville in three-of-four meetings, including a 9-1 victory in the postseason. In addition, three players earned BIG EAST honors, with three others signing professional contracts following the season. The program fundraised over $13,500 towards the Vs. Cancer Foundation off the field.

Hill lives in Verona, N.J., with his wife of more than 55 years, Evelyn. They are the proud parents of six children: Nancy, Fred, Linda, Jim, Tracey and Karen. They also have nine grandchildren: Jessica, Danielle, Brian, James, Natalie, Nicholas, Alexandra, Giselle and Giancarlo.

LSU Baseball Report

For Immediate Release: February 23, 2014

Freshmen Shine in 4-1 LSU Victory Over Texas Southern

BATON ROUGE, La. ? LSU freshman Jake Fraley hit a three-run home run Sunday, and freshman Jared Poche' threw seven strong innings in a 4-1 victory over Texas Southern in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

No. 2 LSU (7-0) returns home Tuesday to face 14-ranked UL-Lafayette (7-1) at 6:30 p.m. The game will be televised by Cox Sports Television, and it can be heard on the LSU Sports Radio Network. Live video, audio and stats will be available at LSUsports.net.

Poche' (2-0) was credited with the win after scattering four hits in seven innings, allowing one run and striking out seven.

"Poche' was excellent again tonight," said LSU coach Paul Mainieri. "He's a very intelligent kid, and he really understands what he's doing out on the mound. He demonstrates a lot of poise and he has tremendous ability. I'm looking forward to watching him continue to develop."

The Tigers started the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Chris Sciambra led off with a double to the left-center field gap before Danny Zardon plated him with an RBI single up the middle.

LSU scored three runs in the fourth inning after Fraley hit his first homer of his career over the right field wall that plated Christian Ibarra and Kade Scivicque, who both reached base after being hit by a pitch.

"Jake Fraley came to us in the fall with a lot of high expectations, but he just didn't perform very well," Mainieri said. " Since he returned to school for the spring semester, he's been a different player and his confidence continues to grow. He's an outstanding athlete who certainly can make an impact for us."

Texas Southern got on the board in the top of the seventh after Zach Howell doubled to lead off the inning, stole third and scored on a Chris DeLeon RBI single.

Freshman Parker Bugg got LSU out of a jam in the eighth inning after Brady Domangue hit a batter and allowed a single. After a sacrifice bunt moved runners to second and third, Bugg got back-to-back strikeouts to hold LSU's three-run lead.

"Parker Bugg was tremendous in that eighth inning, and he showed why we think so highly of him," Mainieri said. "I've been extremely pleased with the way he continues to improve with each outing."

Joe Broussard recorded a strikeout in the ninth before Kurt McCune closed out the game.

Texas Southern pitcher Devin Kanorik (1-1) was the losing pitcher after giving up four runs, all earned, on three hits and two walks in 4.2 innings pitched.

ELIA, ANNUNZIATA POWER SETON HALL PAST RICHMOND

OFFENSE EXPLODES FOR 16 RUNS AND 15 HITS

RICHMOND, VA. ? Junior Anthony Elia (Flanders, N.J.) pitched six innings of one-run baseball and the Pirate offense exploded for 15 runs and 14 hits as the Seton Hall baseball team defeated Richmond, 15-1, in the opening game of Sunday's double-header.

Elia evened his season record at 1-1 by giving up just one unearned run, while striking out six and walking just two.

The Seton Hall offense scored early and often. Junior Sal Annunziata (Bronx, N.Y.) led the hit parade, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs, three doubles and four runs scored. Freshman Mike Caputo (Morganville, N.J.) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs as the designated hitter. All nine of the Pirates' starters recorded at least one hit and 15 position players had at least one at bat.

For a second straight game, Seton Hall broke through early against Richmond. Zack Weigel (Oak Park, Ill.) walked to leadoff the game and was bunted to second by Chris Selden (Allenhurst, N.J.). With two outs, Annunziata doubled down the left field line to score Weigel with the first run of the game. Dillon Hamlin (Colts Neck, N.J.) then reached on a fielding error by the Spiders' second baseman and D.J. Ruhlman (Belle Mead, N.J.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Caputo followed with a hard single to right center field scoring both Annunziata and Hamlin to give Seton Hall a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the second inning, the Pirates struck for three more runs and were aided by a pair of Richmond errors. With two outs and runners on second and third, Annunziata struck out, but the ball got away from the Spiders' catcher Cory Moheit. Moheit then threw the ball over the head of the Richmond first baseman and both Seton Hall runners came around to score. Hamlin followed with a double off the left field wall to score Annunziata and extend the Pirates' lead to 6-0.

After singles by Weigel and Selden, Annunziata smashed a double off the center field wall to plate two more in the top of the fourth. Alex Falconi (Freeport, N.Y.) and Caputo followed with RBI singles of their own to extend the Pirates' lead to 10-0.

In the sixth, Annunziata hit his third double of the game and was brought home on an RBI single by Ruhlman to give Seton Hall an 11-0 lead and the rout was on.

Late in the game, Mikael-Ali Mogues (New York, N.Y.) connected on a solo home run, the first of his young career.

Richmond starter Dylan Stoops took the loss.

SUBJECT: University of Delaware Baseball Downs Manhattan, 4-3, and Campbell, 6-2, on Final Day of Campbell Invitational

DATE: February 23, 2014

kmt:

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- The University of Delaware baseball squad took advantage of an eighth inning balk to defeat Manhattan, 4-3, before using a big first inning to post a 6-2 victory over Campbell as the Blue Hens closed out play with a sweep at the Campbell Invitational Sunday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.

The Blue Hens, who snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 3-4 on the season, got outstanding pitching performances in both games as Brandon Hinkle went eight innings to pick up the win over Manhattan, and Chad Martin was outstanding in earning the win in his first career start against Campbell, allowing just one hit in seven innings. Luke Alicknavitch earned the save in both victories, going three combined scoreless innings.

"We got a great outing on the mound today from Hinkle in game one," said Delaware head coach Jim Sherman. "And we got an outstanding pitching performance from Chad Martin in his first college start against Campbell. I was so proud of him in how he attacked the hitters. Today was just big-time after our poor showing Saturday. Getting that four-spot in the first inning highlighted by Jake Clark's double really got us going against Campbell. We are very proud of our kids."

In the first game, the Blue Hens broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning when pinch-runner Tyler Dean scored on a balk by Manhattan's Mike Vocatura. Greg Olenski led off the inning with a pinch-hit single, with Dean taking his spot on the base paths. Dean then moved to second on a sacrifice by Ty Warrington and on to third after a wild pitch.

Delaware got a great effort on the mound from starter Hinkle and reliever Alicknavitch. Hinkle (1-1) went eight innings and allowed just three runs on eight hits while striking out five. Alicknavitch pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the save.

The Hens jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a three-run third inning thanks to run-scoring singles from EJ Stoltzfus and Norm Donkin. Stoltzfus scored the third run on a passed ball. The Jaspers (1-3) tied the game at 3-3 with a three-run fourth inning highlighted by an RBI single by Andrew Gorecki and two passed balls that resulted in runs.

In the nightcap, Delaware took control early against the host Camels (6-2) by pushing across four runs in the top of the first inning. Donkin put the Hens on the board with an RBI single, while one out later Jake Clark ripped a two-run double to left field. Following a single by Zach Lopes, Tyler Powell legged out an infield single to chase home Clark and make it a 4-0 game.

Donkin increased the lead to five in the top of the second when he belted a solo homer to left, before Campbell got two runs back in the bottom of the third off Martin.

The Blue Hens scored the final run of the contest in the top of the fifth when Donkin led off with a single, moved to third on a single by Clark, and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Lopes.

Martin and Alicknavitch would make the lead stand up, combining to allow just two Camels hits during the game. Martin improved to 1-0 after surrendering two earned runs on one hit in seven innings of work, while Alicknavitch earned his second save of the day after striking out three batters in two innings of scoreless relief.

Donkin finished 4 for 4 with three runs scored and two RBI to pace the 11-hit Delaware attack vs. Campbell while Clark, Lopes, and Powell added two hits apiece.

Delaware begins its home schedule this weekend with a three-game series against Fordham, including the opener on Friday.

SUBJECT: University of Delaware Women's Basketball Falls to William & Mary 68-64 on Senior Day

DATE:  February 23, 2014

sws:

NEWARK, Del. -- William & Mary put a damper on Senior Day for the University of Delaware women's basketball squad Saturday afternoon as the Tribe grabbed the lead with four minutes left and held on for a 68-64 upset win over the Blue Hens at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The Blue Hens (17-8, 9-5 CAA), who honored seniors Kelsey Buchanan and Akeema Richards prior the game, suffered a rare setback to William & Mary as they lost to the Tribe (7-18, 4-9 CAA) for the first time since 2007-08 after winning nine straight.

Among those watching the game was U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden, who attended a UD women's game at the BCC for the third straight year.

Buchanan led Delaware with a game-high 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as she surpassed the 20-point mark for the ninth time this season and posted her eighth double-double.

The Blue Hens were hurt by a season-high 25 turnovers and 9 of 24 shooting from the field in the second half.

"It was a bad day to have a bad day," said Delaware head coach Tina Martin. "We weren't sharp and we just didn't play well today. We didn't attack the zone like we have been doing and we committed way too many turnovers and missed too many layups. It's discouraging, but we just have to get back in the gym and get ourselves straightened out for our final two games on the road."

Freshman Hannah Jardine (at right) added 13 points for the Blue Hens while Joy Caracciolo added six points and a team-high 11 rebounds and Courtni Green came off the bench to score 15 points.

William & Mary got 21 points off the bench from Marlena Tremba and 17 points from Kyla Kerstetter. Tremba surpassed the 20-point mark for the fourth time this season.

Delaware took a slim 39-36 lead at halftime and led by as many as 11 points in the second half at 56-45 with 11:41 left to play.

But the Tribe slowly got back into the game and took their first lead of the half at 59-58 on a Tremba three-pointer with 6:24 left. Two free throws from Kerstetter upped the lead to 61-58.

Delaware got a conventional three-point play from Buchanan with 4:49 left to tie the game at 61-61, but that would be the last share of the lead the Hens would enjoy.

Latrice Hunter gave William & Mary the lead for good with a layup and Kaitlyn Mathieu followed with a jumper with 2:36 left for a 65-61 Tribe lead. Delaware followed with a free throw from Green and a layup by Caracciolo with 27 seconds left but could never get closer.

William & Mary iced the win on a free throw by Hunter with 14 seconds left and on two more from the line by Tremba with four seconds left.

Delaware will try to break a two-game losing streak when the Hens continue action Feb. 27 at Hofstra.
