SUBJECT: Delaware Women's Cross Country Opens Season with Fourth Place Showing at Lehigh
DATE: September 1, 2017
BETHLEHEM, Pa.
-- The University of Delaware women's cross country squad opened up a promising 2017 campaign Friday evening as the Blue Hens placed three runners among the top 20 finishes and posted a fourth place team finish at the Lehigh Invitational at Lehigh Goodman Campus Cross Country Course.
The Blue Hens posted a score of 87 points to finish fourth in the seven-team Division I field. West Virginia, led by individual champion Maggie Drazba (20:58.55) won the team title with 21 points followed by Rutgers (53), and host Lehigh (73). Delaware bested LaSalle, NJIT, and Fairleigh Dickinson. West Chester won the non-Division I race.
Delaware placed three runners in the top 20, including two freshmen. UD freshman Roxanne Ramirez led Delaware with a 15th place showing in her collegiate debut, covering the six-kilometer course in 22:44.55. Junior Jeanette Bendolph placed 17th (22:46.99) and freshman Susanna Weir finished 18th (22:53.73).
"Today was a good day," said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith, who began her sixth season at the helm of the program. "We are really excited and proud of our progress in training so far this season. Thanks to Coach Ryan (Waite) and his efforts in coaching the ladies."
Delaware will be in action again on Saturday when the Blue Hens take part at the Elon (N.C.) Invitational beginning at 8:15 a.m. The meet will be held at the same site of the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Oct. 28.

SUBJECT: McGroarty Takes Top Honors as Delaware Cross Country Dominates Delaware Invitational
DATE: September 16, 2017
NEWARK, Del.
-- University of Delaware cross country standout Liz McGroarty had a little better experience at the Delaware Invitational Saturday morning than she had a year ago.
A year ago, McGroarty did not even finish the race as the heat and humidity knocked her and several other runners out of action.
This year, she made up for last year’s disappointment in a big way as she covered the six-kilometer White Clay Creek State Park course in a time of 23:05.9 to take the victory and outrun the nearest competitor, her teammate, freshman, Roxanne Ramirez (24:03.96), by almost a minute.
Delaware placed nine runners in the top 10 to dominate the event and take first place with 18 points.
Jefferson University was second with 81 points followed by the Delaware Track Club, Chestnut Hill, Wilmington University, Mercer County Community College, Howard, Nyack, Holy Family, Goldey-Beacom, and Lincoln (Pa.) in the 11-team field.
Delaware freshman Susanna Weir placed fourth overall followed by teammates Claire Beautz, Jeanette Bendolph, Stephanie Bazan, Maddie Olivere, Maddie Berman, and Analise Kaminski in the top 10.
Wilmington University captured the men's team title with 77 points, edging the Delaware Track Club by just two points. Jefferson was third followed by Chestnut Hill, Howard, Nyack, Goldey-Beacom, Felician, Holy Family, and Lincoln in the 10-team field.

Milan Duke of Jefferson was the individual winner with a time of 27:04.45 over the eight-kilometer course.
