Goldey-Beacom Women’s Basketball Signs Two to National Letters of Intent


Goldey-Beacom’s women’s basketball program has announced the signing of Tashira Burch (Suffolk, Virginia) and Chiara Giesselbach (Weiterstadt, Germany) to National Letters of Intent.


Burch played her high school ball for Nansemond River, helping the squad win the Southeastern District conference title. An honors graduate who received an advanced diploma, she also was presented the Warriors X Factor Award each of her final three seasons and competed for the TYO Lady Neptunes.


Burch averaged 8.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in reported games during her senior season, helping the Warriors go 15-8 overall and 10-1 in the region. This came after she averaged 9.2 points in reported games for her junior campaign.


Giesselbach played oversees for Eleonorenschule, winning a regional championship in Germany. She also attended a FIBA European camp and was picked Most Valuable Player for a local tournament.


Giesselbach arrived from Colorado Mesa University, where she saw limited action a season ago in playing just five games. The Mavericks went 21-7, advancing to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference semifinals.


Goldey-Beacom (17-12, 13-6 CACC) last season closed second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division and made the league tournament for the seventh time in eight years. The squad also recorded its greatest victory total since posting 20 wins in 2012-13.


Goldey-Beacom opens its season November 10 against Southern New Hampshire.

Goldey-Beacom Volleyball Announces 2017 Schedule


Goldey-Beacom’s volleyball squad took great strides a season ago and now looks for even bigger things in 2017 as the team’s schedule was released.


The season opens September 1 against Salem International in West Chester and continues that night vs. Millersville. GBC the next day continues in Ramfest against Franklin Pierce and West Chester.


Play in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference begins September 13 at Chestnut Hill, one of three road matches to open league competition. One of those matches is September 22 against reigning league champion Thomas Jefferson, the former Philadelphia University.


After 11 total matches away from Pike Creek, the Lightning on September 23 finally play their home opener against Felician. Yet another road match follows four days later as Goldey-Beacom heads to New Castle for a big CACC South Division match at Wilmington (DE).


The return match with Thomas Jefferson is October 17 in Wilmington, part of a four-match homestand. The second match against Wilmington (DE) is October 31 and the home finale is November 8 vs. University of the Sciences.


The league and regular-season finale is November 11 at Caldwell, a participant in last year’s CACC final.


Teams play each of their six division opponents twice and the seven teams in the opposite division once. The top four teams in each division compete in the CACC Tournament, which begins November 14. The semifinals and final take place later that week in Newark, DE.


Goldey-Beacom (11-15, 6-13 CACC) a season ago was declared the NCAA Division II statistical champion for aces per set with 2.4. The Lightning also recorded a four-win improvement in both their overall and conference records.


One of the key pieces returning this season is sophomore outside hitter Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), whose impeccable play and immediate impact helped her to be named CACC Rookie of the Year. Expected to get even more touches this fall, Przywara a season ago closed 53rd in the country with 3.72 kills per set, 66th with 4.17 points per set, eighth in the league with 331 kills, 18th with a .219 hitting percentage, 30th with 29 aces, 39th with 2.57 digs per set and 40th with 229 digs.


Przywara’s 331 kills were seventh in school history and she enters the year ninth in team annals with a .219 hitting percentage.


Also back is junior setter Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA), who has been a great catalyst and leader for the offense. Looking to join Przywara with some league accolades, Florence a season ago ended 33rd in the nation with 0.46 aces per set, 88th with 41 aces, 96th with 9.64 assists per set and fifth in the CACC with 858 assists.


Back for a third year on the front line is senior Jada Canteen (Newark, DE/Delaware State U.), who has been a valuable attacker at both middle hitter and the right side. She closed last season 16th in the CACC with a .221 hitting percentage, 28th with seven block solos, 34th with 1.77 kills per set, 39th with 156 kills, 41st with 33 total blocks and 44th with 26 block assists.

Goldey-Beacom College has named Dawn Roberts an assistant coach for its cross country programs.


Roberts debuts in Pike Creek after service last fall as the middle school cross country coach for Caravel Academy. She helped lead all training sessions, instruction of all fundamental skills and working on the necessary physical training.


She also served as the track & field coach at Conrad School of Science from 2015-17. Roberts headed both the indoor and outdoor programs, leading the Red Wolves in all aspects of the programs.


Roberts has served as Director of Communications for Elite Access Running LLC since 2015, heading the media relations for all premier races. She also was a Public Relations & Special Events Consultant for the National Association of Black Journalists from 2010-11.


Roberts earned her B.A. in Journalism from Delaware State University in 1992, her Post-Baccalaureate from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 2000 and her Post-Baccalaureate from the University of Delaware in 2003.

Goldey-Beacom Women’s Tennis Unveils 2017 Fall Schedule


With the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title under its belt, Goldey-Beacom goes for two in a row as the squad announced its 2017 fall schedule.


The 2016-17 campaign was yet another magical one for the program, which enters its 13th year. The Lightning (14-4, 7-0 CACC) recorded the first CACC title in school history with a 5-1 triumph over Post and clinched their sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament. They notched the best conference mark in team history, were the top seed in the conference tournament for the first time and their 11-0 start was the best in team annals.


Goldey-Beacom closed third in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region and also was a number three seed for the NCAA Tournament. GBC upended Southern New Hampshire in the first round and led 44th-ranked Queens (NY) in the second round after doubles.


The Lightning this season open things September 12 at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington against University of the Sciences in a rematch of last year’s CACC semifinals. It is one of just three home matches in the fall and the second is the squad’s next match four days later vs. Caldwell.


GBC from September 22-25 makes a return trip to the ITA East Regional Championship, which will take place in Flushing, NY. After a “road” match September 27 against Wilmington (DE) at Delcastle, the Lightning play their home finale two days later vs. Holy Family.


Goldey-Beacom on October 13 heads to Middlebury, CT to face Post in a rematch of last year’s conference final before traveling to Concordia (NY), which makes its return to women’s tennis, two days later.


The league’s top six teams advance to the CACC Tournament with the first two gaining a bye into the semifinals. The first round is October 17 at the higher seed of each match with the semifinals and final October 20-21 in Middlebury, CT.

Two for Goldey-Beacom Baseball Excel in Summer Ball


Coming off its first Division II season in school history, Goldey-Beacom’s baseball team this summer has seen two of its players continue their hot play in summer ball.


Senior Edwin Lee (La Plata, MD/Prince George’s CC) made the Corn Belt League All-Star Team for the Omaha (Nebraska) Blue Bombers and has seen extensive playing time. He is batting .288 with four doubles, four triples, 17 RBI and 21 hits over 24 games.


Lee a season ago for the Lightning ended 61st in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a .340 slugging percentage, 20th with two triples, 49th with 18 RBI, seventh on the team with 21 hits, tied for fourth with 18 RBI, tied for second with five doubles, tied for second with two triples and sixth with 17 runs. He made all 27 of his starts at first base and played 35 games.


Senior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON/Kalamazoo Valley CC) also has made his mark with the Fort McMurray (Alberta) Giants in the Western Major Baseball League. He led the league in walks and closed fourth with nine home runs.


Marsden a season ago was one of two for GBC to start all 45 games. He ended 87th in the nation with 0.67 walks per game, 16th in the CACC with 10 doubles, seventh with 42 runs, eighth with five home runs, 16th with a .410 on base percentage, 17th with a .455 slugging percentage, fourth on the team with 38 hits and tied for sixth with 16 RBI. Marsden also recorded the first home run and four-hit game in program history in addition to being its first base runner.


Goldey-Beacom (10-35, 5-17 CACC) had an impressive first season under coach Tom Riley after the program was introduced in the fall of 2015. The squad played its first game as a Division II member February 18 at Barton, its first home game March 5 against Queens (NY), notched its first victory March 24 at Chestnut Hill and its first doubleheader sweep April 21 against Chestnut Hill.


GBC also won the sport’s CACC Sportsmanship Award, given to the team which best displays class, character, sportsmanship and competitive spirit. The conference presents one such award for every sport each academic year.

Goldey-Beacom Cross Country Presents 2017 Schedule


In what should be yet another exciting year for Goldey-Beacom’s cross country programs, the teams have announced their 2017 schedule.


The season opens September 9 at the Dutchmen Invitational in Lebanon, PA before it faces strong Division I competition the following week at the Delaware Invitational. The latter will take place at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark.


Part of the reason for participating in Newark is that it will be the site for this year’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships, for which Goldey-Beacom will serve as the host school. Those races will take place October 22.


Before that Goldey-Beacom will host its annual GBC Fall Classic, once again at Carousel Park in Wilmington. It will mark the 16th year the Lightning will hold this event.


GBC also will run at the Don Cathcart Invitational in Salisbury, MD on September 30 and the CNU Invitational in Newport News, VA on October 7.


The NCAA East Regional heads west this fall with the races in Buffalo, NY on November 4.


Sophomore Adam Quann (Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville) made a huge impression last year that was highlighted by him ending 31st at the CACC Championship, ninth at the GBC Fall Classic and 25th at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational that got him named CACC Player of the Week. Senior Victor Rueda-Jimenez (Milford, DE/Sussex Tech) also ran in all seven races, closing a team-best 27th at the CACC Championship and 24th at the GBC Fall Classic.


A key contributor back on the women’s side is senior Crystal McCollum (Elkton, MD/North East), who ended 51st at the CACC Championship, 18th at the DSU Hornet Invitational and 20th at the GBC Fall Classic. Sophomore Katie Jensen (Selbyville, DE/Indian River) also is coming off an excellent campaign by ending 34th at the DSU Hornet Invitational, 35th at the GBC Fall Classic and 61st at the CACC Championship.

Goldey-Beacom Women’s Soccer Chosen to Finish Sixth in the CACC


Goldey-Beacom, coming off an impressive campaign a season ago with a senior-heavy lineup, has been picked to close sixth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference based on a vote by the league’s coaches.


GBC (12-6-1, 8-3-1 CACC) last season finished third in the league for its highest finish since 2005, also the last time it hosted a conference tournament game before last year. It also made the CACC Tournament a third straight season for the first time since going four consecutive years from 2003-06.


Helping pace the charge is senior midfielder Amy Runciman (Luton, England), a valuable player who does it all with her keen field awareness, scoring touch and great passing. The second team all-conference pick a season ago certainly earned it by closing 28th in the country with nine assists, 32nd with 0.47 assists per game, 90th with 23 points, 98th with 1.21 points per contest and eighth in the CACC with seven goals.


One of five returnees who started all 19 games last season and one of eight returnees overall, Runciman enters this year second in school history with 25 assists, fourth with 63 points and fifth with 19 goals.


Another key returnee among the midfielders is junior Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland), who also gives the Lightning plenty of scoring touch and once again should be one of the catalysts. Also starting all 19 games a year ago, Crammond ended sixth in the conference with five assists, 21st with 13 points and 30th with four goals.


Senior Tanner Turner-Rush (Harrisburg, PA) has been a four-year starter at center back and now becomes the leader for a defense which last season was third with 1.12 goals allowed per game and tied for third with seven shutouts. Junior midfielder Sophie Woods (Manchester, England) also returns after closing 21st in the CACC with three assists, 26th with 11 points and 30th with four goals.


Leading the way is second-year coach Dan Frick, who last season was tabbed CACC Coach of the Year.


Goldey-Beacom is home September 1 for its season and conference opener vs. Bloomfield.

Goldey-Beacom Women’s Basketball to Host Designer Bag Bingo


In one of its most entertaining and important fundraisers of the year, Goldey-Beacom’s women’s basketball team on Friday, September 15 will host its annual Designer Bag Bingo to help benefit the program.


The doors at the Michele M. Rollins Atrium open at 6:00 pm and the first game is at 7:00 pm.


The event will feature a plethora of hand bags along with many other great items that will be awarded through raffles, door prizes, 50/50 and bingo cards.


Tickets are available for $30 each and a table of 10 goes for $250. Checks can be made payable to Goldey-Beacom College.

Goldey-Beacom (17-12, 13-6 CACC) last season closed second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division and made the league tournament for the seventh time in eight years. The squad also recorded its greatest victory total since posting 20 wins in 2012-13.

Goldey-Beacom Men’s Basketball’s Signs 10 to National Letters of Intent


A strong recruiting class, the first under second-year coach TJ Dekmar, has been inked for Goldey-Beacom’s men’s basketball team with 10 signed to National Letters of Intent.


Freshman Kyle Elliot (Mater Dei Prep) averaged 12.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists during his senior season. Also leading Roselle Catholic High School to the 2013 New Jersey Tournament of Champions title, Elliot is described as a strong athletic guard who is solid in all aspects of the game.


Giovanni Jones (Norfolk, VA/Granby) is another freshman guard who is great at getting to the basket and scoring in traffic. He averaged 22.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game for his AAU team, LoxDown United. Jones also was picked to compete in the inaugural Joy Fund All-Star Classic.


Freshman Marcellus Livingston (Linden, NJ/Linden) is a smart guard who also is a great shooter and will make an immediate impact. In averaging 9.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game a season ago, he helped the Tigers in 2017 win a second straight NJSIAA Group IV state title.


Justin Salem (Mahwah, NJ/Harcum College), described as a smart guard who is a lights-out shooter, is the lone sophomore in the group. He averaged 6.0 points per game last season for Harcum College after leading Bergen Catholic High School his senior season with 98 three-pointers.


Junior Mahir Johnson (Chester, PA/Delaware State U.) is a former Delaware County (PA) Player of the Year, averaged 19.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game as a senior at Chester High School and scored just under 1,300 points for his career. Johnson has seen limited action each of the last two seasons at Delaware State University.


Junior Troy Stancil (Washington, DC/Garden City CC) during his senior year for Theodore Roosevelt High School was named MVP of the Washington, DC final. He played in 30 games last season for Garden City Community College, shot 37 percent from three-point range and is listed as a long, athletic wing who can shoot in addition to being a great defender.


Quincy Tillinghast (Cincinnati, OH/Delaware State U.) is a junior and a crafty guard who can really shoot. He averaged 22.0 points and shot 47 percent from three-point range as a senior for the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati.


Senior Isiah Graves (Atlantic City, NJ/Morgan State U.) played in 29 games last season for Morgan State University and enters as a strong guard who can score in bunches in addition to getting his teammates involved.


Senior Xavier Harris (Philadelphia, PA/Fairleigh Dickinson U.) played in 28 games with 11 starts in 2014-15 for Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University, averaging 6.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He is listed as a strong, athletic big player who can score in different ways.


Chandler Levingston Simon (Vernon Hills, IL/Valparaiso U.) played in eight games last season as a junior for Valparaiso University, entering as a skilled athletic post player.


Dekmar last season was listed among the top 30 men's basketball coaches – head coaches and assistant coaches of all divisions – under age 30 as released by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). His first season at the helm saw GBC (20-7, 14-5 CACC) attain its best regular-season win total in school history at 20 and a berth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.


The Lightning also posted a school-record 12-game winning streak and a team-best 11 road wins.


Goldey-Beacom opens its season November 11 against Franklin Pierce as part of Southern New Hampshire’s tip-off tournament in Manchester, NH.

Goldey-Beacom Men’s Soccer Opens Season with 3-0 Loss at Shippensburg


Goldey-Beacom gained a decided shots advantage in its season opener, but lost on the scoreboard in a 3-0 setback at Shippensburg in Shippensburg, PA.


Goldey-Beacom fell into a 1-0 hole in the 14th minute when Jake Shefsky put a corner kick in the box that Jan Striewe headed home. The margin doubled in the 30th minute when the Raiders were awarded a penalty kick and Patrick Luebben buried it.


Shippensburg (1-0) in the 61st minute took advantage of a free kick and converted for a 3-0 lead as Cole Kropnick took a feed from Erik Espinoza and found the back of the net.


Junior Chahin Aghrim (Bonn, Germany) closed with four shots to help the Lightning (0-1) own a 16-7 edge. Junior Suhail Bismilla (Johannesburg, South Africa), also picked first team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference a season ago, made three saves.


Striewe led the Raiders with two shots and Matt Harder amassed five saves for Shippensburg.


Goldey-Beacom on Sunday once again will try for its first win of the season as it faces Bloomsburg in a 3:30 pm match. The women’s squad faces Roberts Wesleyan earlier in the day at 2:00 pm.

Goldey-Beacom’s Josh Shultz and Adam Quann Named to CACC Academic Honor Roll


Goldey-Beacom senior Josh Shultz (Easton, PA) was picked to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men’s Cross Country Academic Honor Roll a second time with sophomore Adam Quann (Pennsville, NJ) making his first appearance.


Shultz competed in three races this fall, highlighted by him ending 70th in 35:37.58 at the Delaware Invitational.


Quann ran five races, ending 18th in 28:49 at the CNU Invitational, 21st in 31:39.0 at the GBC Fall Classic and 40th in 29:36.7 at the CACC Championship.


The Lightning as a team ended 11th at the CACC Championship and will compete Saturday at the NCAA East Regional in Amherst, NY.
