The Inevitable: 12/3/16 Smyrna vs. Middletown

Smyrna backup QB came in last week. Couldn't tell much in a blowout but he looked OK. Radio guys liked him.

RR, not sure I'm understanding your post but..as I've posted previously, Nolan has played 5qtrs and a couple running clock series of handing the ball off in 3 games. Last year his early exits totaled 13qtrs. He's watched from the bench more than he's played this year and I challenge anyone to find a chip QB who spent as much time on the sidelines as he did last season.
Just looking at the stats on Maxpreps.. No other QB has any .. other than Knight being 1 for 1 on a HB pass I guess its very possible the back up came in and just handed the ball off and has no rushing or passing attempts.. which would be odd for this type of offense because typically they run the same system to start grooming the next guy

ANYTIME the clock runs, the second string goes in. EVERY TIME the clock runs, the second string goes in. Can't say that is the same for all other teams who have run the clock this season. 2 quarters at Delcastle and about 1 1/2 quarters at both Appo and Sallies. His name is Ryan McNatt. Check out the 302.com pics... #12.

With running clocks it's hard to get 2nd unit much work.

302.com website is too choppy for me. YouTube channel is good.

Just went back and looked they have 2 QB's on the Varsity Roster.. Ryan Mcnatt (JR) is the back up .. He has 0 pass attempts but 5 carries for 33 yrds and 1 TD... not sure I consider that developing the next guy but whatever...I get being worried about the haters crying about running it up and all but you still have to run your O when the back ups are in . Its how programs are developed year after year..next guy up needs to be ready to go. In my opinion

RR it is a luxury to be able to get a backup QB game reps whether in backup duty or especially regular game reps.

The norm is to get the kid 1st team reps in practice as much as possible, and in symrnas case I'm sure he gets a lot since they are so fine tuned already.

I think your missing the point.. The back up should be able to come in run the same O ..it keeps the train rolling for the next year.. bringing in back ups to just hand the ball off is a waste of time for all involved..IMHO

If Henderson were to go down, Judy has said they would mostly run Wildcat offense with Knight & Brown.

With regard to the discussion of backups, I loathe the running clock. It robs the reserves of valuable playing time.

Running clock puts the 2nd team guys in a pickle for sure- they typically have to come in, run the ball into the teeth of the defense, and just deal with it. In a spread offense that does pose a problem.

I'm sure a backup QB for a team like Smyrna will get his chance to sling it around a bit at some point soon, maybe to the dismay of the opposition. Coaches don't see things like this always- in the moment they may be blinded by emotion of taking a whooping and see it as a team running the score up...then do dumb stuff like screw deserving kids in conference meetings...there are plenty of good reps to be had even late in blowout games for a young player.

Even a blind man could see this coming in week #2.Now, I admit I picked Penn to beat Smyrna as a ruse.

One thing I believe is that Smyrna is unbeatable at their home field. Bummy doesn't have a rooting interest. Is there any advice you could give bummy on who to root for??

I believe that Delaware High School Football will be the winner on Saturday afternoon. Smyrna will be first runner-up in D1! Middletown will represent their fine city proudly but will come up short against the Eagles and their SEA of RED!! :)

Everybody get your hands in here!
Who?: SMYRNA, Who?: SMYRNA
Smyrna: EAGLES!, Smyrna: EAGLES!
Eagles: FLY HIGH!!, Eagles: FLY HIGH!!
