This will be my last playoff points post for the season. Simply because I won’t have the total numbers done before the DIAA board meeting releases their playoff schedules.

the plus side to all this is all that teams that could clinch a playoff berth, did so this past weekend so the games upcoming are only for seeding purposes.

there are scenarios if a team loses or wins it will change this projection (much like if Appo upsets Sallies, teams move up and teams move down, or DMA beats Archmere.) other than that this is what your Seedings will look like if there are no upsets

(THESE ARE THE NUMBERS AS OF RIGHT NOW, don’t include upcoming games)

the way this works is 4pts for a win, 0 for a loss.

1 Bonus point for .500/.600 team, +1bp for .700/.800 team, +1 for .900/1.00 team and then divide total points by games played.

CLASS 3A:
Appoquinimink - 0,4,0,0,4,4,4,4,0 + 5bp = 25/9 = 2.77
Hodgson - 4,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,4 + 5bp = 13/9 = 1.44
Middletown - 4,4,4,4,0,4,4 + 6bp = 30/7 = 4.28

Thanks for this update HS. I believe Sussex Tech has played only 9 games. You have them at 10 games.

As someone who cheers for a team that [prior to this year] regularly played St E’s, Tatnall, and Charter, with most of those games completely forgettable, it really is nice to see those teams playing well in D1. The new division structure absolutely worked to make more teams play competitive football, and the football committee absolutely deserves credit for this.

Thank you. That took a lot of work to put this together.

Going to need to fix the point system or the format if teams like Newark, Concord, and Mt. Pleasant could get in over Lake. Any team in D3 of 2A could get screwed every year because of their schedule.

I don't see where Lake is all that better than those teams. Lake has lost 4 straight and only won 1 game in their district. They had every opportunity to get in. They lost to Red Lion and Tech so in my opinion they don't have any more claim than the teams you mentioned. Lakes only claim is they beat Newark but Newark isn't in their district so that's that. There is no perfect system where the top 12 teams get in without debate. The point system had arguments that the top 8 teams didn't get in before..

I agree I think that each team will probably have good years and bad. Who would have expected CR to more than likely end up 0-10. And there is the same argument that Glasgow probably deserves to be in the playoffs over Odessa but odessa won the games that they needed too, and Glasgow didn't. I'm sure the top couple teams from each district will make the playoffs each year but the other two spots will probably be more of a rotation.

Lake didn’t just beat Newark and Mt. Pleasant. They blew them out. They ran into 4 playoff teams(arguably 3 of the top 6 teams in all of 2A) and lost. D3 is stacked and it’s incredibly unbalanced compared to the other two districts. They should be trying to get the 12 best teams in because otherwise it’s a flawed system. We want closer playoff matchups but let a team like Newark in to get blown out by anybody decent team they face.

I like the district playoff system much better than the at large system. Sure it has it's problems, but it's still better than arbitrary "points".

Let's say Lake gets in over Newark and ends being the 12th seed instead of Newark. Their first game is almost certainly going to be against Friends, which Lake would almost certainly lose badly, just like Newark is almost certainly going to lose badly to Friends.

It sucks for Lake, but they had their chances to get in. All they had to do was beat Tech and Red Lion. After all, no system is perfect.
