One thing that stands out and its kind sad is the long history of Seaford football and the sad state that it is in now.

I noticed that too, Dove. Seaford, along with Middletown, Dickinson, Christiana and Glasgow are the programs that have both D1 and D2 football championship banners. 4 out of those 5 are in a sad state of affairs now.

Glasgow had it going a couple of years ago. Then the coach left to do his own training thing and players left after that

Seems like every school in that district (Christina) has hit the crapper

Glasgow, Newark, Christiana . At one time they were all top teams in Flight A. Those days are over.

Loved the first years...4 teams total...now 25% of schools that have football make the tournament....trophies all around

I wasn't here for the heyday of Seaford football/baseball but Jeff has told me about it on more than one occasion. Seaford got a first hand look at what happens when the mill closes with the case of Dupont basically shutting down.
One issue here is the selective nature of Charter/Tech Schools when it comes to admissions. I could be wrong but It is my understanding that the discrimination case/complaint is still working it's way through the courts.
While it is over simplification to blame Charter schools for the failure of standard public schools, it is a symptom of the general failure of the public education in system in this country.

Closing of the DuPont Nylon Plant years ago really took it’s toll on Seaford - always had strong football, basketball, and baseball programs .. always

They should have burned it! Watson wore it the year before! I did not do 82 justice. But, on the bright side Broncos finished my 8 team parlay on Sunday.

Good call, Big Ben blew my ticket up with that pick $15 10 team half point parlay would of paid 12k geesh

And Seaford basketball and baseball. They were powerful for many years in all 3 sports and always had great athletes.

Damn sorry you didn't get that. I only bet 5 bucks. Still a nice hit- good luck this week.

Seaford baseball probably had the most players drafted in Delaware. Players such as Delino Deshields, Mike Neill, Stoney Briggs, Warren MeGee and Daryl Tingle just to name a few..

Great thread and a trip down memory lane for me. I worked my first playoff game in 1995. Wm Penn versus Concord. I worked my last championship game in 2012, Middletown v Salesianum and my final playoff game in 2013 St George's v. Woodbridge at Appo. Father time you are a worthy adversary.

The first tournament was special. The field at UD for the championship game between WHS and MDT was muddy like Hodgson's was this past Saturday. Joe Todd could never get traction and the Red Devil defense was sideline to sideline.

Ben Williams, Warren Avery, Anthony Johnson, the Watsons, Garfield Steptoe and Coaches Sansosti and Kossanovich in their 20's!!

Remember what Joe Todd did to Sallies? Sallies punts and a group of the Sals surround the ball. Joe Todd scoops up the ball breaks through the circle and goes to the endzone. Met Joe when I was at Wesley. Nice guy.

Between WP and Newark, they dominated the early to mid 80’s, the Henlopen was stymied by them. Geesh many sleepless nights back then lol
