Godey-Beacom Golf Competes at the FPU Invitational


Goldey-Beacom went against some tough competition in its season-opening tournament, closing eighth at the FPU Invitational in Keene, NH.


Freshman Corbin Babyak (Wallenpaupack, PA) was the story for the Lightning, shooting a final-round 77 to end tied for 17th at 157. He recorded 20 pars for the tournament over 36 holes.


Junior Ryan Quigg (Sykesville, MD) ended tied for 40th with 164, freshman Hunter Tollinger (Elkton, MD) closed tied for 46th with 166 and senior Andre Primeau (Pontypool, ON) was tied for 49th with 169.


The Lightning carded 329 in the final round to finish at 656. Southern New Hampshire today shot 296 and won with 594.


Goldey-Beacom will play in the Charger Challenge from September 23-24 in Suffern, NY.

Corbin Babyak Named to CACC Men’s Golf Weekly Honor Roll


Goldey-Beacom freshman Corbin Babyak (Wallenpaupack, PA) put forth a solid debut with the golf team and was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll.


Babyak ended 17th with 157 in his collegiate debut at the FPU Invitational in Keene, NH. He shot a final-round 77 and closed the tournament with 20 pars over 36 holes.


The big start by all will be needed as golf this academic year becomes a CACC championship in the fall. That tournament will be held October 1-2 in Middletown, DE.


Goldey-Beacom's last tournament before that is the Charger Challenge from September 23-24 in Suffern, NY.

Goldey-Beacom’s Shea Murphy Wins CACC Men’s Golf Top XVI Award


Goldey-Beacom sophomore Shea Murphy (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Charter), a great leader, citizen and role model for the athletics community, has been named the Men’s Golf winner of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Top XVI Award.


Murphy owns a 3.86 GPA in Sport Management and received the honor presented "to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the CACC championships."


On the course, Murphy a season ago played in 11 tournaments and broke 80 six times. He ended tied for 12th at the Charger Challenge, carded 74 at the Navy Fall Classic to finish tied for 25th and was tied for 25th at the Mike Bello Invitational with 157. Murphy also shot 76 in the second round of the California Coaches Intercollegiate and in the second round of the CACC Championship.


Off the course, Murphy has been active with the department’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and helping with the expanded video production. He also has been instrumental with helping run various social events involving athletics. Murphy also has been taking groups of students to Hockessin Athletic Club every other Friday, helping Special Olympics competitors work on powerlifting.


“Shea has been integral in the student-athlete welfare initiatives that showcase what being a Goldey-Beacom College Lightning is all about,” GBC Compliance Specialist Jeremy Benoit said. “His tireless effort and drive will carry him a great distance in golf and the classroom and, most importantly, in his life and career after he's done leaving his mark on the College.”


Murphy is the fourth Goldey-Beacom student-athlete to earn this award since its creation in 2013-14. Jabari Chambers from men's cross country won in the fall of 2013, Patrick McRae from men's golf took it home in the spring of 2015 and Nina Sengl was so honored in the fall of 2015. McRae and Sengl went on to become CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.


Founded in 1886, the College offers graduate and undergraduate degrees with majors in psychology, economics, criminal justice, English and all areas of business. With alumni from 26 states and 66 nations, Goldey-Beacom College is located in Pike Creek Valley, a suburb of Wilmington, Delaware. Goldey-Beacom’s Ryan Quigg Closes Tied for Eighth at Post Eagles Invitational


Junior Ryan Quigg (Sykesville, MD) ended his solid week by finishing tied for eighth at the Post Eagles Invitational in Watertown, CT.


Coming off Monday’s opening-round 75, Quigg duplicated that Tuesday to close with 150. Tuesday’s round featured two birdies to go on top of the four he had in the opening 18. His six birdies were tied for the fourth most on the week.


Sophomore Shea Murphy (Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Charter), just named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Academic Honor Roll, was tied for 37th with 161 that included Tuesday’s 79. Senior Andre Primeau (Pontypool, ON) carded a final-round 80 to end tied for 41st at 164 and freshman Hunter Tollinger (Elkton, MD) finished tied for 43rd with 165.


GBC on Tuesday carded 312 to end the tournament eighth with 635. Southern New Hampshire won with 591, including Tuesday’s 294.


It is a quick turnaround for Goldey-Beacom, which competes Friday and Saturday at the Le Moyne Invitational in Cicero, NY. It is the squad’s final tournament of the fall.

Goldey-Beacom’s Ryan Quigg Named to CACC Men’s Golf Weekly Honor Roll


Junior Ryan Quigg (Sykesville, MD), who made a big splash earlier in the week, today was picked to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men’s Golf Weekly Honor Roll.


Quigg shot 75 each round Monday and Tuesday to end tied for eighth at the Post Eagles Invitational in Watertown, CT. Monday featured him getting four birdies and he closed the week with six, tied for fourth in the tournament.


Quigg has posted four sub-80 rounds this year, averaging 80.88 over eight rounds. He ended tied for 36th at the CACC Championship nine days ago.


It is a quick turnaround for Goldey-Beacom, which competes Friday and Saturday at the Le Moyne Invitational in Cicero, NY. It is the squad’s final tournament of the fall.
 
Goldey-Beacom Men’s Golf Ends Fall Season at Le Moyne Invitational


Goldey-Beacom’s golf team closed 17th overall at the Le Moyne Invitational in Cicero, NY.


Junior Ryan Quigg (Sykesville, MD) ended tied for 47th with 154 after shooting a final-round 75. Senior Andre Primeau (Pontypool, ON) was tied for 61st with 156.


This concludes a fall campaign in which the Lightning ended sixth at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship earlier in the month.


The spring schedule has yet to be announce.
