STOW, Ohio - - The No. 26th ranked Grand Valley State team was too much to handle for the Wilmington University women’s tennis team on the final day of its trip to the Latuchie Tennis Center, falling 7-0, on Sunday morning.

The Lakers took all three doubles matches to star the contest, earning the doubles’ point. They then took all six singles matches, despite a battle from Tess Paya at No. 4 singles.

After falling 6-0 in the first set, Paya fought back to win the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-2, to force a super set in the third. But Paya was unable to complete the comeback, falling in the third set, 10-4.

The Wildcats come back to Delaware and have one more game scheduled before the NCAA Division II East Region Tournament in May. The Wildcats will face off against Indiana (Pa.) next Saturday at the Delcastle Tennis Center. The program’s first Senior Day will begin with a 10:30 a.m. first serve.

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The Wilmington University baseball team evened the season series with Goldey-Beacom on Sunday, sweeping the Lightning in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader, 7-2 and 11-9, on Sunday afternoon at Wilson Field.

Dan Hyatt dominated the mound in game one while Luke Johnson came off the bench and launched a game-tying three-run home run as the Wildcats (21-13, 10-8 CACC) came from behind with a five-run sixth inning in the nightcap.

Senior Kendall Small became the first Wildcat in program history to record 200 hits in a career, doing so with a two-out double in the eighth in game one.

Game One:

Wilmington starter Dan Hyatt went eight innings and struck out seven while the bats scored in five of their eight at bats in the 7-2 win.

The Wildcats’ first four runs came off two-out hits, the first coming in the bottom of the second off the bat of Matt Stepnoski. He singled into right field to score Eddie Nevins for the game’s first run.

Eddie Nevins was then on the other end of a two-out hit in the third, singling through the left side with runners on first and second. Dakota Graham came home to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead.

Now in the fifth, back-to-back doubles with two outs and the bases empty scored another run for the Wildcats. Kendall Small started the two-out rally with a double to left center and Eddie Nevins followed with a double over the third baseman and into the left field corner. Nevins then came home on a double steal with runner son first and third for the 4-1 lead.

Frank Nigro hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and the Wildcats tacked on two insurance runs in the eighth to secure the game one victory. Dakota Graham pulled one through the left side with Nigro on third and two batters later Kendal Small hit his 200th base knock of his career, a double to left center for another RBI and a 7-2 lead.

Rich Albrecht relieved Hyatt and got the first two batters out in the top of the ninth. But the Lightning did go away easily, as three straight singles loaded the bases. But Albrecht buckled down and struck the next batter to seal the victory.

Kendall Small went 3-for-4 with two doubles while Eddie Nevins batted 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Matt Stepnoski batted 2-for-4 as well for the Wildcats.

Hyatt improved to 6-1 on the year with the win.

Game Two:

The Wildcats got off to a hot start in the nightcap, jumping out to a 5-0 lead after three full innings. But the Lightning bounced back with a run in the fourth and a seven-run fifth inning to take an 8-5 lead.

Trailing 9-6 in the bottom of the sixth, the Wildcats regained the lead with a five-run frame in exciting fashion.

Frank Nigro started the rally with a one-out double before Dakota Graham walked to bring the tying run to the plate. Luke Johnson came in to pinch-hit and the move paid off as he took a pitch deep to center for a three-run homer to tie the game, 9-9.

Kendall Small was hit by a pitch and stole second to restart the rally before an error and a walk loaded the bases with only one outs. Max Carney stepped in and sent a ball to deep right, one-hopping over the fence for a ground-rule double and an 11-9 lead.

Zach Frederick closed out the victory while leaving two runners on base in the seventh, securing a comebacker to the mound for the final out of the game.

Max Carney went 4-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Wildcats while Dakota Graham scored three runs while batting 1-for-2. Quintin Ivy hit a solo shot in the third inning, going 1-for-3 in the game.

Zach Frederick pitched out of the sixth and went 1.2 innings to improve to 2-2 on the year. Danny Sullivan started the game and went 4.1 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits while striking out two.

Goldey-Beacom Lotte Lesscher y Post and Catarina Zheng Placed in National Rankings

The unmistakably solid doubles tandem of sophomores Lotte Lesscher y Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) have been a force the last two seasons on the tennis court for Goldey-Beacom and recently were ranked the 15th-best doubles team in the country, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

These two have led the way for Goldey-Beacom at first doubles with their great teamwork, communication and strong play. This season, they are 18-3 so far with a 13-2 mark in dual matches, 5-1 record in tournament play and a 7-1 mark against the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

The duo this fall went to the ITA doubles final before losing in a match tiebreak to Barbara Quagliardi and Diana Baumgartnere from New York Tech. They furthered their hold in the national rankings last Friday, recording a 6-3 triumph at first doubles over 30th-ranked Reehan Rashad and Luisa Auffarth from Queens (NY).

The two have recorded 34 career doubles victories, which is tied for the seventh-most in team history.

Lesscher y Post made incredible noise during the fall in being picked the CACC Player of the Year, one year after she was tabbed second team and the conference tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. She is 13-4 in singles this season that includes 12-3 in dual play at first singles.

Zheng also has been a dynamo, getting picked first team all-league for a second straight year after making the 2017 CACC All-Tournament Team. Zheng has amassed a 14-4 singles mark, which includes 13-3 at second singles.

All of this continues to be a major plus for Goldey-Beacom (12-4, 7-1 CACC), which is ranked seventh in the East Region according to the ITA. That likely is to go up after the squad recorded a 5-2 victory last Tuesday over No. 35 New York Tech, which is tops in the region.

Goldey-Beacom this season captured at least a share of the league's regular-season crown for a third straight year and made its 11th straight appearance in the conference semifinals. The Lightning, who have played in the NCAA Tournament seven times, also have won 24 of their last 25 regular-season league matches.

GBC has four singles players and four doubles players who have reached double figures in victories already this season.

Goldey-Beacom, which still is in the hunt for an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament, has two matches remaining. It hosts Indiana (PA) on Friday at 3:30 pm and Slippery Rock on Sunday at 11:00 am, both at the Delcastle Tennis Center.

Founded in 1886, the College offers graduate and undergraduate degrees with majors in psychology, economics, criminal justice, English and all areas of business. With alumni from 13 states and 60 nations, Goldey-Beacom College is located in Pike Creek Valley, a suburb of Wilmington, Delaware. The College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs.

SUBJECT: Dominican Rallys in Game One to take 9-7 win, but Wildcats Win Game Two, 10-1 in Six Innings

DATE: April 11, 2019
MKR

NEW CASTLE, Del. – In a makeup game from March 23, the Wilmington University softball team split contests with Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference foe Dominican, falling 9-7 in the game one, before coming back to win game two, 10-1 in six innings at Asbury Field on Thursday afternoon.

In the doubleheader, sophomore Lauren Lopez collected eight RBI, breaking the single season mark now with 54 RBI on the year. She surpassed Jillian Stafford’s mark of 51 RBI in 2013, still with 10 games let in the regular season.

Game One:

A big six-run fifth inning for the Chargers would give them their first lead of the game, helping them pull away with the 9-7 win.

The Wildcats (27-11, 15-3 CACC) had a commanding 5-0 lead through the third inning, but the Chargers would just get started in the top of the fifth inning.

In the bottom of the third, Wilmington had two runners on for Lauren Lopez, who doubled down the left field line, scoring Alyssa Velasquez and Kiana Broderson-Jones. Annie Davila would be the next batter for the Wildcats, as she saw a pitch to drive the ball out over the left field fence for a two-run homerun to give WilmU a 5-0 lead.

The Chargers would get their first two runs of the game in the top of the fourth on a two-run homer, but it wasn’t until with two outs in the top of the fifth, a two-run Chargers home run would start their rally. Dominican would have three straight singles, until another homerun would bring in their sixth run of the inning to take an 8-5 lead.

In the bottom half of the inning, Makayla McCarthy would make it a two-run game with a solo shot out to left field to start something for the Wildcats. The next three batters would get on for WilmU to bring up Rosa’Lynn Burton with the bases loaded, who singled up the middle to make an 8-7 ballgame. Wilmington would leave the bases loaded to end the inning, before the Chargers got an insurance run in the top of the sixth to finish out the game with a two-run lead.

Caitlyn Whiteside would go 6.0 IP, allowing nine hits and eight earned runs, with one walk and one strikeout.

Lauren Lopez, Makayla McCarthy, and Rosa’Lynn Burton all went 2-for-4 in the game. Lopez would finish with three RBI, as Burton and McCarthy had one RBI. Annie Davila’s homerun gave her two RBI in the game. Lexi Baughman and Jazmeen Llamas both went 2-for-3 for the Wildcats.

Game Two:

Eight runs in the last three innings for the Wildcats would give them the eight-run rule over Dominican in the sixth inning.

The Wildcats got started early, as they scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first on singles from Lauren Lopez and Lexi Baughman.

With two outs in the bottom half of the fourth, Rosa’Lynn Burton got the Wildcats started with a single, before Kiana Broderson-Jones got on with a walk. With both players now in scoring position, Lauren Lopez would do what she does best, as she doubled down the left field line scoring both runners. Makayla McCarthy and Alexis Sann would keep it going, as they got on with a single and a walk to bring up Alyssa Velasquez. Velasquez then singled up the middle to give WilmU their third run of the inning and give the Wildcats a 5-1 lead heading into the top of the fifth.

Wilmington would bring in three more runs in the bottom half of the fifth, from another two-run single from Lopez and a sacrifice fly from McCarthy. Up by just seven runs in the bottom of the sixth, Lexi Baughman finished the game with a two-run homerun to straight away center to end the ball game, 10-1.

Makayla McCarthy would go 6.0 IP, allowing five hits, three walks, and one earned run with five strikeouts. She would get the win and improve to 12-3 in the season.

Lauren Lopez and Rosa’Lynn Burton both went 3-for-4 in the ballgame. Lopez finished with a double and five RBI. Lexi Baughman went 2-for-4 with a homerun and three RBI. Alyssa Velasquez and Makayla McCarthy both had one hit and one RBI.

Next Up:

The Wildcats are back at Asbury Field on Saturday afternoon as they take on Caldwell for Senior Day. Game one is now set for 2:00 p.m.

Thu, April 11, 2019
Dover, Del. (Apr. 11, 2019) --- The Delaware State football team is putting the finishing touches on preparations for the annual Red / White scrimmage to mark the end of spring practice.

The offense vs. defense scrimmage is set for Friday evening (Apr. 12) at Alumni Stadium.

“Overall, I’ve been impressed with our focus throughout camp,” said second year head coach Rod Milstead, who led the team to a 3-8 overall record in his first season at the helm in 2018. The three wins were the most by the Hornets since 2013. “Everyone’s on notice that all starting positions are up for grabs, so there’s been a strong sense of urgency throughout camp.”

The Hornets have operated with two quarterbacks throughout spring camp. Shayne Smith (jr.; 6-1, 200) completed 16-of-19 passes (84.2%) for 212 yards and three touchdowns in the Hornets’ 41-7 victory over Virginia Lynchburg in his lone career start in the 2018 finale. The Hornets are expected to have their entire starting offensive line, including 2018 All-MEAC Third Team picks Kaiden Crawford (jr.) and Liki Seu (jr.), along with top reserves available for spring camp. In addition, center Cade Pedro, a 2018 Preseason All-MEAC Second Team selection, may also participate after sitting out last season due to injury.

SUBJECT: Women’s Lacrosse Breaks Several Program Records with 22-9 Win Over Caldwell

DATE: April 13, 2019
MKR

WEST CALDWELL, N.J. – With a 22-9 win over Caldwell Saturday at Essex Valley Field, the Wilmington University women’s lacrosse team won its fifth consecutive game, tying it’s most consecutive wins in a season since 2006, while making it the most goals scored in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win as well.

Red shirt sophomore Delaney Steele has also added to her record breaking season again, as she totaled 10 assists and three goals in today’s win, which breaks her own record of eight assists in a game and La’Dae Boykin’s 12 points in a game set last year, as Steele finished with 13 points.

The Wildcats (8-6, 5-1 CACC) scored 16 first half goals, with help from winning 23 draw controls throughout the whole game, to defeat the Cougars, 22-9.

Wilmington scored the first four goals of the contest, including Maddie Day’s first goal that came just 37 seconds into the game on a pass from Maris Allen. Caldwell would make it 4-1 with 25:51 to play until the half, but the Wildcats would go on another run, scoring five straight goals, breaking out to a 9-1 lead within the next five minutes. The Cougars would go on their own run, as they scored three straight goals to make it a 9-4 game, but five goals would be the closest they came the rest of the contest, as WilmU scored seven more goals to finish the half, leading, 16-7.

Steele would tie her eight assists in a game in the first half, before breaking it on a pass to Brooke Siebert for the first goal of the second half, with 26:51 left in regulation. The Wildcats would score the first six goals of the second half, including three from Siebert. Caldwell would score their final two goals of the game with 1:28 left to play in the contest.

Brooke Siebert finished with six goals, one assist, and eight draw controls, as freshman Maddie Day netted five goals in the game. Lashay Ross (seven draws), Maris Allen (one assist, eight draws), and Taylor Lambeth (one assist) all had two goals. Senior Marisa Parker also dished out two assists.

Maddie Hurm made five saves in goal, while Tori Grubowski made four saves on six shots in the second half.

Wilmington will host CACC leading and defending champs Georgian Court on Wednesday for a CACC matchup with the Lions. Opening draw is set for 4:00 p.m. at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Eagles got to within a goal again in the third by scoring first in the third, but Chris Smith gave the Wildcats a two-goal lead once more with his second of the day with 10:28 to play in the third quarter.

Smith then put the Wildcats up 8-5 with a goal to start the fourth quarter, but Post answered right back with back-to-back goals less than a minute apart, climbing to within 8-7 with 9:02 to play.

Post had nine shots following the goal until the 3:27 mark of the fourth quarter, but Noah Given made a couple of saves and got the help of a goalie’s best friend on a shot that hit the post and stayed out.

The Wildcats then put the Eagles away with a goal with 37 seconds left, icing the game as Post was pressing with double teams.

SUBJECT: Kendall Small Becomes Program’s RBI Leader as WilmU Sweeps Concordia, 5-2 and 14-4

DATE: April 13, 2019
MKR

NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Wilmington University baseball team took two from Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference North Division’s Concordia on Saturday afternoon, 5-2 and 14-4, at Wilson Field.

With his solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning in game one, Kendall Small became the program’s all time RBI leader with 144 RBI in his career.

Game One:

The Wildcats (24-15, 13-10 CACC) got on the board first as Julian Kurych hit a solo shot out to right field for the first run, before Kendall Small stole home to take a 2-0 lead after one full.

The Clippers earned one back in the top of the fourth inning to make it a one-run game, before tying it up at 2-2 in the sixth with a two-out single to right center.

Wilmington would only have two base runners until the bottom of the seventh, when Max Carney led the inning off with a single through the right side. Now with two outs and Carney on second, Joey Cautillo knocked a dribbler to the second baseman and beat it out. Carney didn’t stop when going around third, and came home as the throw to the plate was offline, which gave the Wildcats the lead back.

In the next inning, Kendall Small made history with his solo homerun out to center field to break the RBI record in a career with 144. The next two batters would reach safely, before bringing up Carney, who grounded out to the third baseman, but would bring a run home to give the Wildcats a 5-2 lead heading into the Clippers’ final at bats.

Dan Hyatt held the Clippers without a hit until the fourth inning, and retired the side throughout the first three. He would go 7.0 IP, allowing five hits, and one walk, while striking out seven to improve to 7-1 on the season. Zach Frederick would get the save for WilmU going the final 2.0 IP for his second save of the season.

Kendall Small went 3-for-4 with one RBI, as Joey Cautillo went 2-for-2 with one RBI. Julian Kurych went 1-for-4 with his solo homerun, while Max Carney had one RBI.

Game Two:

Nine runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning would give the Wildcats a 10-run lead over Concordia, finishing out the game, 14-4.

Concordia would be the first to score in game two, as they hit back-to-back singles, before a double would score both runners to take a 2-0 lead heading into the Wildcats’ first at bats.

Dakota Graham would start the inning off with a walk, before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Quintin Ivy would be in the two-hole for the Wildcats, as he was able to single through the left side to score Graham and contain the lead to one.

Concordia would score two more in the top of the fourth inning to make it a 4-1 ballgame, but it did not matter. Wilmington would load the bases in the bottom half of the inning, before Graham forced in a run with his second walk of the game, making it 4-2. Ivy would be next, as he reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, which would score another run for the Wildcats and keep the bases loaded. Small would then single to left field, scoring two more to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game, 5-4.

The big inning came in the bottom of the fifth, when Brett Nowell started it with a two-run single up the middle. WilmU would go through the lineup to bring up Nowell again, who knocked in his third RBI of the inning with a single to the shortstop. Derek Donastorg would also hit two singles in the inning to bring in three RBI and give Wilmington the 10-run lead.

Tyler Campbell would start and go 3.1 IP, before coming out with an injury to bring in Ryan Bradigan. Bradigan would get the win, going 2.2 IP, allowing two hits, and one earned run to improve to 1-0 on the year. Justin Mears would get one strikeout, pitching in the final inning.

Max Carney and Brett Nowell both went 2-for-3, as Nowell had three RBI and Carney had two. Derek Donastorg went 2-for-2 with three RBI, as Quintin Ivy went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Kendall Small had one hit and three RBI, while Dakota Graham had one hit and one RBI.

Next Up:

Wilmington is back home Wednesday for a doubleheader with another CACC North Division foe in Nyack. Game one is slated for 12:00 p.m. at Wilson Field.

Mon, April 15, 2019
Dover, Del. (Apr. 15, 2019) --- Delaware State University Head Softball Coach Amber Jackson has announced that she will leave the post at the end of the current season to serve a missionary tour in Africa.

Now in her fifth season as head coach of the Hornets, Jackson’s DSU tenure has been highlighted by two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division titles, MEAC Coach-of-the-Year honors in 2016 and a 56-25 record in regular season mark in division games (.691).

In Jackson’s MEAC Coach-of-the-Year season in 2016, Delaware State led all conference teams in total wins (30) and division victories (16-2). In addition, the 2016 Hornets led the MEAC in batting (.331), slugging percentage (.487), runs (315), hits (454), RBI (280), doubles (78), home runs (39) and total bases (669). DSU also posted the lowest ERA (3.52), along with allowing the fewest runs (151) and home runs (22) among conference teams that season.

Jackson's first season at Delaware State in 2015 was highlighted by the team’s second straight MEAC North championship with a 14-4 record and a school-record 14-game win streak. Notable 2015 victories for the Hornets included a 15-3 thumping of Atlantic Coast Conference Virginia and a 2-0 shutout of Big East Villanova.

Jackson has guided 17 All-MEAC selections with the Hornets, including six First Team honorees, and one league Rookie-of-the-Year.

This season, the Hornets are 6-23 overall and 3-6 in the MEAC.

“I’m grateful to Delaware State for allowing me the honor and privilege to serve as head softball coach,” Jackson said. “I have greatly enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to lead and impact DSU women academically, athletically and professionally. Recently I’ve been offered the opportunity to educate and train children in Africa through education, the gospel and sport. The lessons I’ve learned as a Hornet will serve me well as I take the next step in my career.”

As collegiate player at Bethune-Cookman, Jackson is recognized among the best in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference history. She is one of two players to earn three MEAC Player-of-the-Year honors, capturing the award from 2002-05 (the other is Delaware State’s Jordan Reid from 2012-12). Jackson was an All-America selection in each season at Bethune-Cookman, in addition to playing an integral role in the squad’s 2005 NCAA Tournament Super Regional’s appearance.

Also in 2005, she was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Team after batting .455 (fifth-highest in NCAA Division I), with 14 homers, 68 runs batted in and 33 stolen bases.

Jackson later attended the University of Maryland for her senior season in 2007. That year, she set school records with 24 home runs (most in the NCAA), 56 RBI and 55 walks. She was Maryland's second NFCA All-American and was named to the All-ACC First Team, while graduating with her Masters of Education in Human Development.

She was inducted into the MEAC Hall-of-Fame in 2017 and the Bethune-Cookman Athletics Hall-of-Fame five years earlier.

After her collegiate career, she played three years (2007-09) in the National Pro Fastpitch League for the Washington Glory and USSSA Pride. Her accolades included League Player of the Year (2007), All-League First Team (2007, 2009) and a 2008 All Star selection (2008).

“On behalf of the University, I extend sincere thanks to coach Jackson for being an outstanding representation of DSU and our softball program during her years as a Hornet,” said Delaware State Director of Athletics Dr. D. Scott Gines. “She is a purpose driven individual with a calling to service. We are privileged that Delaware State was among the stops in her life’s journey and truly wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

Jackson is eager to end her Delaware State experience on a positive note.

She added, “I am fully committed to my student-athletes, their academic and on-field success, and to competitive excellence for the remainder of the 2019 softball season.”

NEWARK, Del. - - The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference leaders Georgian Court scored the first six goals of the second half to separate themselves from the Wilmington University women’s lacrosse team, as the Wildcats fell, 21-11, on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.

The Wildcats (8-7, 5-2 CACC) kept with the Lions (11-4, 7-0 CACC) in the first half, but couldn’t keep momentum in the contest, as every Wildcat goal was answered by a Lions’ mark in the first half. The Wildcats didn’t score back-to-back goals in the game until the 10:44 mark of the second half.

Maddie Day scored the first goal of the game for the Wildcats in the fifth minute of play, tying the game at 1-1. The Wildcats’ Brooke Siebert won one of her 10 draw controls to earn the ensuing possession, but the Wildcats couldn’t capitalize to take the lead.

Goldey-Beacom Women’s Tennis Placed Third in the First NCAA East Region Rankings

The first NCAA East Region Women’s Tennis rankings are out and Goldey-Beacom was listed third, bolstering its chances of earning an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament.

It is a major boost for the Lightning as they were ranked the highest among any school from the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. This poll in its final version is the main criteria used to select teams into the NCAA Tournament.

The top six teams in the East Region advance to the NCAA Tournament and the draw will be announced May 7. The first and second rounds take place May 13-14.

Goldey-Beacom (14-4, 7-1 CACC) this season captured at least a share of the league's regular-season crown for a third straight year and made its 11th straight appearance in the conference semifinals. The Lightning, who have played in the NCAA Tournament seven times, also have won 24 of their last 25 regular-season league matches.

A major reason for Goldey-Beacom’s high ranking occurred April 2 when the squad recorded a huge 5-2 upset of New York Tech, then No. 35 in the nation and tops in the region. GBC also topped Wilmington (ranked fifth in the East) and the District of Columbia (ranked seventh in the East) in the regular season.

GBC is 6-2 in the spring with just one loss coming to Division II opposition.

Sophomores Lotte Lesschery Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) have played a huge role in Goldey-Beacom’s success the last two seasons. Presently, they are the seventh-ranked doubles tandem in the country and are 19-4 on the season. The two advanced to the ITA East Region doubles final and, against New York Tech this month, notched a 6-3 upset over the 30th-ranked tandem in the nation.

Their 35 career doubles victories are the seventh-best total in school history.

Lesscher y Post made incredible noise during the fall in being picked the CACC Player of the Year, one year after she was tabbed second team and the conference tournament's Most Outstanding Player. She is 14-5 in singles this season that includes 13-4 in dual play at first singles.

Zheng also has been a dynamo, getting picked first team all-league for a second straight year after making the 2017 CACC All-Tournament Team. She has amassed a 16-4 singles mark, which includes 15-3 at second singles.

Andrea Fresneda (Valencia, Spain) owns a 15-4 record in singles, including 11-3 at sixth singles. Fellow freshman Kristin Radeke (Bremen, Germany) has the third-most double triumphs for the squad, owning an 11-4 that includes 10-3 at third doubles.

NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis East Region Rankings (as of April 17, 2019)

1. Queens (NY)

2. Stonehill

3. Goldey-Beacom

4. New York Tech

Goldey-Beacom Places Three on CACC Weekly Honor Roll

Another strong week for Goldey-Beacom Athletics got senior Jake Trejo (Wauseon, OH) and sophomore Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, DE/Delaware Military Academy) on the Weekly Honor Roll for baseball and sophomore Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) gain the same award for softball.

Trejo notched a career-best 11 strikeouts Wednesday against Post, allowing just three runs and nine hits over nine innings.

It was yet another solid performance for Trejo, who got 10 strikeouts March 23 at Bloomfield and has recorded a victory in four of his last six appearances. He is 98th in the nation with a 4.1 strikeout-to-walk ratio, seventh in the league with four wins, eighth with 51 2/3 innings pitched and 11th with strikeouts.

Gillis batted .286 (4-for-14) with a triple and three RBI. He collected three hits in Wednesday’s doubleheader sweep of Post, including two in the nightcap with two RBI.

Gillis has had a very productive year, highlighted by his game-winning home run April 3 against Wilmington in a 12-10 victory to cap a five-run ninth-inning rally. He is 26th in the CACC with nine doubles, 43rd with 39 hits, 54th with a .291 batting average and 55th with a .418 slugging percentage.

Goldey-Beacom (13-29, 12-14 CACC) stands tied for fifth in the CACC South Division with University of the Sciences, both one game behind Jefferson (13-13) for the final conference-tournament spot.

Lockwood batted .556 last week (5-for-9) with a double and two runs. She notched two hits in each game Thursday against Wilmington with a double in game one.

Lockwood is 32nd in the league with 34 hits, 60th with a .279 batting average and 60th with a .338 on-base percentage. She leads the team with 12 multi-hit contests and also paces the squad in hits.

Goldey-Beacom this season has faced a challenging schedule that included No. 4 Saint Anselm, which the following week was ranked number one, and 18th-ranked Georgian Court.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – With four runs in the top of the third inning, the Wilmington University baseball team took the lead before defeating the University of the Sciences, 7-3, to win the 2019 Bill Giles Invitational held at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday afternoon.

Today’s win over USciences gave Wilmington baseball their fourth Bill Giles Invitational Championship. The Wildcats won the 18th Annual Bill Giles Invitational last season, defeating West Chester. It is the first time the Wildcats have won back-to-back Invitationals.

It was a rocky start for the Wildcats (28-15), as USciences (16-24) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Devils had back-to-back-to-back hits, before the Wildcats could get their second out of the inning, but with two more singles, USciences would take the early 3-0 lead heading into the top of the second.

Dan Hyatt would get WilmU started in the top of the third inning with a one-out triple to right center. Kendall Small would be the next batter, who reached first on a fielding error from the first baseman. Eddie Nevins, who leads the league with a .457 batting average, then singled to left field to score Small and bring the lead to within one. Max Carney would then get runners in scoring position on a sacrifice bunt for Julian Kurych. Kurych knocked in the two runners with a single to left field to give WilmU their first lead of the game, 4-3.

Redshirt sophomore Brett Nowell would give the Wildcats a 5-3 lead over the Devils in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single to right field to score Kurych, but would be out at second trying to stretch a double.

In the top of the eighth, Frank Nigro would hit the only homerun of the game, with a solo shot out to left field. Luke Johnson would give the Wildcats the 7-3 lead a few batters later, as he hit a sacrifice fly out to center to score Nowell.

WilmU would use nine pitchers throughout the contest, but Noah Latshaw would get the win, as he pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the second inning. Rudy Gervolino was able to get the final two batters out, after giving up a one-out double in the fourth. Freshman Danny Sullivan gave up a double to the first batter he faced in the bottom of the seventh, but was able to retire the next three batters in order, including two strikeouts.

Julian Kurych and Max Carney both went 3-for-4 in the contest, as Kurych finished with two RBI. Brett Nowell went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Dan Hyatt went 2-for-4, including a triple, as Eddie Nevins, Luke Johnson, and Frank Nigro all had one RBI apiece.

The Wildcats are right back to Philadelphia tomorrow, as they travel to Jefferson for a CACC doubleheader. Game one is set for 1:00 p.m.

Goldey-Beacom’s Joe Kissel to Retire as Women’s Tennis Coach

Goldey-Beacom’s Women’s Tennis program will have a decidedly changed look for next season as Joe Kissel will retire after 13 years as the team’s head coach.

“Goldey-Beacom could not be more proud of the success that Joe Kissel has brought to the women’s tennis program in his 13 years as Head Coach,” said Director of Athletics Dr. Thomas Brennan. “Joe Kissel is a consummate professional who has demonstrated a real commitment to the concept of the student-athlete and who during a highly successful career has touched the lives of so many. His mark on the program and the College has undoubtedly been made. We wish nothing but the best for Joe and his family in retirement.”

Kissel arrived in Pike Creek to a second-year program still looking for its first win. What he turned it into is a juggernaut that won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference title both in 2016 and 2017 and a share of the regular season title in 2018, as well as a squad which has competed in the NCAA Tournament seven times.

He is responsible for all of the program’s 140 wins during his 13 seasons and led the team to finish the 2014-15 season 31st in the country as well as the 2017-18 squad ending 32nd. The Lightning also entered the 2018-19 season with 10 straight winning campaigns dating to 2008-09 and double-digit victories in eight of the last 10 seasons.

The 2014-15 team will go down in Goldey-Beacom lore as one of the most significant in the College’s history in any sport. That team upended fellow CACC-foe Chestnut Hill to become the first squad in school history in any sport to win a head-to-head NCAA Tournament contest, won a program-record 18 matches, tied the school record with 10 shutouts and had four student-athletes regionally ranked at season’s end.

Beyond all the victories, the relationship that Kissel built and fostered with the student-athletes he recruited has always been his greatest success. Over the years, his squad has included more than 40 student-athletes from 18 countries all over the world. The network of Goldey-Beacom Women’s Tennis remains strong to this day, which is due in large part to Kissel.

“Many coaches see recruiting as the worst part of the job. I actually love every minute of it; not necessarily the process, but the end result” said Kissel. “Few things are more satisfying than helping a young student-athlete fulfill her dream of coming to the US to earn a college education, while playing a sport about which she is passionate. It is also extremely rewarding to watch these recruits mature into young women right before your eyes, and through social media, follow this growth after they graduate. These relationships have led to weddings and continued contact as ‘my girls’ have children of their own. Knowing, as a coach, you played some part in helping these students kick-start their lives is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job. It doesn’t get any better than that.”

Goldey-Beacom’s accomplishments under Kissel extend beyond championships. He and the team on multiple occasions have participated in community service activities such as the Tennithon to benefit the Delaware Tennis Foundation, and ball people for the Delaware Wheelchair Tennis Championships. The squads have always excelled in academia, as well. At the conclusion of the 2017-18 academic year, the team boasted a cumulative GPA of 3.7226 which was the highest of any athletic team at the College. The 2017-18 season marked the third academic year in a row that they accomplished that feat.

In addition, most have gone on to complete their master’s degrees at Goldey-Beacom or other colleges. But, perhaps more importantly, most former players are now gainfully employed in their native countries, as well as in the US, as company accountants, international business managers, small business entrepreneurs, international soccer or tennis organization supervisors and so forth.

"Joe Kissel is a genuine, driven leader who has taken our tennis program to unparalleled heights,” adds Dean of Students Chuck Hammond, who previously served as the Director of Athletics. “His passion for helping student-athletes achieve more than they ever thought they were capable on and off the tennis court is evident in his relationships with his players. To compete consistently on a regional and national level while displaying the highest level of academic success is truly remarkable. We thank Joe for his dedication to our student-athletes and wish him all the best in retirement.”

Kissel’s career at Goldey-Beacom represents a litany of accomplishments. Some highlights include USTA Middle States Delaware District Community Tennis Coach of the Year (2009) for his work in only four years at Goldey-Beacom; USTA Delaware District College Coach of the Year (2015, 2016); USTA Middle States College Coach of the Year (2017), USPTA Middle States College Coach of the Year (2017).

At the conclusion of the 2017-18 collegiate season, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) named Kissel the East Region College Coach of the Year. He also has been selected by conference coaches the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Coach of the Year four times (2008, 2009, 2014, 2017).

His latest award was presented last October, when Kissel was inducted into the Delaware Tennis Foundation Hall of Fame for his record accomplishments at Goldey-Beacom, and more than 20 years of service to Delaware tennis.

Founded in 1886, the College offers graduate and undergraduate degrees with majors in psychology, economics, criminal justice, English and all areas of business. With alumni from 26 states and 66 nations, Goldey-Beacom College is located in Pike Creek Valley, a suburb of Wilmington, Delaware. The College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs.

SUBJECT: CHAMPIONS: Softball Completes Comeback with Three Wins on Saturday to Capture 2019 CACC Championship

DATE: May 4, 2019
MKR

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Having to win three straight games, the No. 2 seeded Wilmington University softball team did just that to defeat No. 1 Georgian Court, 5-4, in nine innings to capture their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Championship since 2016 on Saturday afternoon at SEI Investments Field.

With the win the Wildcats earn the CACC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament, which will be announce on Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. on NCAA.com.

Game one vs. No. 8 Jefferson:

In their first game of the day, the Wildcats faced off with No. 8 seeded Jefferson in the elimination round, winning 3-0 to advance to the CACC Championship game. It was a pitcher’s duel, as neither team would score until the fourth, when Makayla McCarthy doubled to right center to bring the first two runs across the plate for WilmU.

McCarthy would get out of a big sixth inning with a double play and a ground out to end the inning, stranding a runner on second base. Annie Davila would give WilmU an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning with a solo homerun to make it a 3-0 ballgame.

Makayla McCarthy threw a complete game, allowing four hits with five strikeouts to complete the shutout. She also had two RBI. Kiana Broderson-Jones, and Alyssa Velasquez both went 2-for-3. Annie Davila had one RBI.

Game two against No. 1 Georgian Court:

With the win over Jefferson, the Wildcats needed to win back-to-back contests against No. 1 Georgian Court, since the Lions had not lost throughout the Tournament yet.

The Wildcats started out fast in the first inning, loading the bases with two outs, but could not plate any runs. Caitlyn Whiteside would get into a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the second, but get out of it on a groundout to strand all three runners. WilmU had another chance in the third, but would not come through with a run until the top of the fourth.

Lexi Baughman would get that inning going for the Wildcats with a leadoff single, before Jazmeen Llamas followed behind her with a bunt single to the pitcher. With one out, Rosa’Lynn Burton would hit an RBI single up the middle to score pinch runner Angela Antonini for the first run of the ballgame. With runners now on second and third, Kiana Broderson-Jones hit a sacrifice fly out to center field to score Llamas and give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.

Georgian Court would answer right back in the bottom half of the inning with just one run to bring it to a 2-1 ballgame. With the rain coming down hard, the umpires decided to stop the game in the bottom of the sixth until the rain passed through. After resuming play, the Lions would get some momentum on a solo homerun to tie the ballgame up at two apiece to head into the final inning.

Looking to start something, Annie Davila would double to right center to put herself in scoring position as the leadoff batter. Lauren Lopez would be the next batter, who singled to center to advance Davila to third. Now with the momentum on the Wildcats’ side, Alyssa Velasquez would reach on a throwing error by the shortstop to score Davila and advance Lopez to third. Makayla McCarthy then followed Velasquez with a sacrifice fly out to center field to score Davila and give WilmU a 4-2 lead heading into the Lions’ final at bats.

Caitlyn Whiteside would walk the first batter, but would get three straight outs, including a strikeout looking to strand the runner on second and help the Wildcats force a winner takes all game for the CACC Championship.

Whiteside went 7.0 IP, allowing five hits, two runs, two walks, while striking out five batters. Rosa’Lynn Burton went 2-for-4 with one RBI, while Kiana Broderson-Jones, Annie Davila, Lauren Lopez, and Jazmeen Llamas all went 2-for-3. Broderson-Jones, Velasquez and Makayla McCarthy all had one RBI.

Game Three vs. No. 1 Georgian Court:

It took nine innings and 10 hits for the Wilmington University softball team to come back from a 4-1 deficit to capture the 2019 CACC Championship over Georgian Court.

Kiana Broderson-Jones would give the Wildcats an early lead in the top of the first inning with a single up the middle to score Rosa’Lynn Burton to make it a 1-0 game going into the Lions’ first at bats.

Georgian Court would not be fazed by the single digit run, as they started the inning off with a single, before getting some momentum off a two-run homerun to take a 2-1 lead. With only one out, the Lions would hit another two-run shot out to right to extend their lead to 4-1 in the first. Caitlyn Whiteside would relieve Makayla McCarthy and get out of the inning by stranding a runner on second.

Wilmington would slowly fight back against the 4-1 deficit, starting in the top of the third inning. With two outs in the inning and Burton on second base, Annie Davila would hit an RBI single to left to score Burton, before Lauren Lopez followed her with her own single up the middle and bring the deficit to within one, making it 4-3.

WilmU would have a chance to score again in the top of the fifth with runners on second and third, but could not come through. It wasn’t until the top of the sixth that Alyssa Velasquez started the inning with a leadoff single up the middle. Pitcher Caitlyn Whiteside would try and move Velasquez on a sacrifice bunt, but would end up reaching first to put her and Velasquez on without any outs. Kiersten Comer looked to get in the action as a pitch hitter, as she reached on a fielding error from the shortstop to load the bases up for Angela Antonini. Antonini would come up big, hitting a sacrifice fly out to right to score Velasquez and tie the ballgame up at 4-4.

With a runner on second in the bottom of the sixth, Kiana Broderson-Jones made a perfect throw to Antonini at the plate to get the runner out at home on a single to center to keep the game tied heading into the seventh inning. The Lions had another opportunity in the bottom of the seventh, but Whiteside was able to get out of a first and third situation with a foul out to left field and force extra innings.

One-two-three innings for both teams in the eighth would force a ninth inning. With two outs in the top of the ninth, leadoff hitter Rosa’Lynn Burton did what she does best and laid down a bunt single to third, before stealing second to put herself in scoring position for Kiana Broderson-Jones. Originally Broderson-Jones was hit by a pitch and was awarded first, but was called off, as the umpires made a consensus that it hit her bat to bring her back to the plate. Unhappy with the call, Broderson-Jones came up big for the Wildcats with a single to left field, which would score Burton and give the Wildcats the go-ahead run, making it 5-4.

Just needing three outs, Caitlyn Whiteside would get the first two batters on a fly out and a strikeout looking to bring the Lions down to their final batter. With a 1-1 count, Whiteside would get the batter to pop up into foul territory for third baseman Lauren Lopez to make the catch and start the celebration.

Whiteside went 8.2 IP, allowing four hits, no runs, and three strikeouts. The senior from Bermuda Dunes, California would go on to earn the CACC Tournament MVP award after her dominating performances throughout the tournament.

Rosa’Lynn Burton went 4-for-5, as Kiana Broderson-Jones went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Annie Davila, Lauren Lopez, and Angela Antonini all had one RBI.

Along with Whiteside; Annie Davila, Rosa’Lynn Burton, and Kiana Broderson-Jones all earned All-Tournament Team for the Wildcats.

Wilmington will wait to find out what seed they are for the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament, which will start Thursday, May 9.

Dover, Del. (May 4, 2019) --- Darnell Maisonet threw 8.1 solid innings, while Miguel Rivera and Jared Gillis drove in two runs each to lead Delaware State to a 6-2 victory over Coppin State in the MEAC North finale for each team at Soldier Field today. The three-game series sweep gives the Hornets a season-high six-game win streak, their longest since also winning six in a row in 2017.

Maisonet, one of five DSU seniors playing in their final home game, allowed five hits and the two Coppin State runs, while striking out seven and walking two to even his record at 2-2 this season.

He left the game to a standing ovation with one out in the top of the ninth inning. Freshman Jeremy Carrow recorded the final two outs to seal the win for the Hornets.

Maisonet recovered nicely after a shaky start. He hit the second batter he faced and gave up a two-run homer to Coppin’s Nasir McIlwain to put the Eagles in front 2-0 in the top of the first inning.

The Hornets tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rivera doubled to lead off the inning and scored DSU’s first run of the game when Gillis followed with a single to center. Gillis later crossed the plate on a ground out by Cole Garey to even the score.

Delaware State put three runs on the board in the fifth to take the lead for good. Mark Herron tripled to lead off the fifth and scored on a single by John Weglarz o give the Hornets a 3-2 lead. Rivera and Gillis also singled in fifth inning runs to stretch the lead to 5-2.

The Hornets their sixth run on a single by Rivera in the seventh. He was three-for-four with two RBI to raise his team-high average to .357 this season.

Gillis had two hits in four at bats, and is now 14-for-26 (.538) with a homer, two doubles and 10 RBI in the last six games to lift his season average to .308.

Todd Henry had three hits and two stolen bases in four at bats, while Herron was two-for-four in the game.

The six-game win streak gives DSU a 17-23 overall record, while the Hornets close out MEAC play with a 12-12 mark, good for third place in the final Northern Division standings.

Delaware State will close out its 2019 schedule with a non-conference game at Richmond on Tues. (May 7). Game time is 3:00 p.m. in Richmond, Va.

Goldey-Beacom Softball Placed Three on the CACC Academic Honor Roll

Another strong semester for Goldey-Beacom’s softball unit saw juniors Dianna Gatto (Jefferson, NJ) and Kylie Quirk (Newark, DE) each make the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Academic Honor Roll a second time with sophomore Zoe Lockwood (Chesapeake City, MD) getting her first honor.

Gatto this season competed in 37 contests with 24 starts, ending with a .929 fielding percentage, 17 hits and seven RBI. She posted a four-game hitting streak earlier in the campaign and recorded a trio of two-hit contests.

Quirk played in 31 games with 19 starts, closing with a .900 fielding percentage. She opened the campaign in Myrtle Beach with hits against perennial powers Kutztown, Millersville and nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire.

Lockwood exploded late in the campaign and became a mainstay in the lineup, starting all 45 games she played in. She is 42nd in the league with 39 hits, 20th with seven stolen bases, 38th with 89 putouts, 65th with a .277 batting average and 68th with a .333 on-base percentage. Lockwood paced the team with 13 multi-hit contests and had a hit in eight of the squad’s last 12 games.

The Lightning this season faced a challenging schedule that included games against three teams who eventually were nationally ranked. This included fourth-ranked Saint Anselm in a game which Goldey-Beacom led against a team which the following week moved up to number one in the country.

SUBJECT: Wildcats Shoot Season’s Best 296 to Lead Atlantic/East Super Regional After First Round

DATE: May 9, 2019
djl

GREENSVURG, Pa. - - The Wilmington University golf team picked a good time to post their best score of the 2018-19 season, as they sit in first place after the first round of the 2019 NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Super Regional with a 296 (+8), on Thursday morning at the Totteridge Golf Course.

The 296 bested the Wildcats’ 297 they scored at the Penmen Spring Invitational on April 19. They are in first place by two strokes after the first round on Thursday, ahead of Southern New Hampshire and Franklin Pierce who posted identical scores of 298 (+10).

The Wildcats were led by Braden McKay’s 72, even round score, as he shot out to a two-under score with birdies on the third and fourth holes. He also birdied the par five 12th and the par five 15th to get back to two under par each time, but bogeys on 16 and 18 dropped him back to even par for the round. McKay shot three-under par on the four par fives on the day, leading the tournament.

Jack Dixon was one-under on the back nine, finishing the round with a 73 (+1) to sit in a tie for eighth overall. Back-to-back bogeys had Dixon at two-over at the turn, but then he birdied the par four 11th, and the par three 14th to get to even par. After a double bogey on 16, Dixon answered with a birdie on the par four 17th and a par on the 18th to finish just one-over par. Dixon was even par for the day on the 10 par four holes.

Ryan Rucinski was the third scorer for the Wildcats, as he posted a round of 74 (+2) for the day, sitting in a tie for 11th overall. He made the turn at one-over par and had his round at one-under par with birdies on 12 and 15, but finished his day three-over on the final three holes to come in with a 74 (+2). Rucinski leads the tournament with McKay on par five scoring, going three-under on the four par fives.

Enrique Valverde was the final scorer for the Wildcats on Thursday, coming in with a 77 (+5) to sit in a tie for 37th overall. He birdied the par four fifth to get to one under but made the turn at two-over par. He birdied the par four 11th to get to three-over par, but two bogeys on the back nine put him at 77 for the day.

Arvy Shongwe completed the Wildcats on the course on Thursday, shooting an 81 (+9). He had 10 pars on the round, but a double bogey on nine put him at five-over at the turn.

Southern New Hampshire’s Matt Paradis is the clubhouse leader after the first round, posting a 67 (-5) with eight birdies. Starting on the 10th hole, he shot out to a four-under score halfway through his round, with a double bogey on 11.

The Wildcats’ second round will begin on the back nine on Friday, starting with Braden McKay teeing off at 12:50 p.m.

SUBJECT: No. 6 Adelphi Has Final Answer in Top of 10th Inning as No. 3 Wilmington Falls, 4-3, in NCAA East Regional Tournament

DATE: May 9, 2019
djl

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The Wilmington University softball team battled back three times against Adelphi in the First Round of the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament, but it was the fourth run that set Adelphi apart, winning the game, 4-3, in 10 innings at Asbury Field.

In the first ever NCAA Regional Tournament game on the campus of Wilmington University, the game needed to wait 40 more minutes, as a rain delay took place as soon as the Wildcats (39-14) and Panthers (32-8) were ready to take the field.

With the loss, the Wildcats drop to the loser’s bracket of the double elimination tournament and will square off against No. 7 New Haven on Friday at 12:30 p.m. New Haven lost to No. 2 LIU Post, 2-0, in the second game on Thursday.

After the rain delay, the Wildcats answered Panther’s runs with a run of their own in the bottom of the first, seventh and ninth innings, but didn’t have the magic going in the 10th after Adelphi scored again.

An error in the top of the first lead to Adelphi getting on the board, as Hannah Pineda singled in Nicoletta Cuccio for the early 1-0 lead.

But the Wildcats answered back in the bottom half, as Kiana Broderson-Jones hit a one-out triple. Now with runners on first and second, Annie Davila hit a sacrifice fly to center to tie the game, but Lauren Lopez was thrown out at the plate trying to score on the play as well.

The Wildcats had a chance to take the lead in the fifth inning, loading the bases with two outs in the frame. But Lauren Lopez hit a sharp grounder to the shortstop who stepped on second to end the threat.

A two-out solo shot to left field put the Panthers ahead, 2-1, in the top of the sixth, and the Wildcats didn’t answer until they were down to their last out in the seventh.

With two outs and Courtney Dellinger on first, Kiana Broderson-Jones worked a walk to bring up Lopez once again. This time, Lauren Lopez took one the other way and through the right side and Dellinger executed a perfect hook slide, sticking her hand on the plate before the tag was applied to tie the game, 2-2.

Both teams left a runner on in the eighth and Adelphi was able to take another lead in the top of the ninth with a two-out solo homer to center by Nicoletta Cuccio.

Courtney Dellinger walked to lead off the bottom half and moved up to second on a Rosa’Lynn Burton sacrifice bunt. Kiana Broderson-Jones then doubled to left center to chase Dellinger home to tie it once more, 3-3.

Makayla McCarthy came on to pitch in the top of the 10th inning and the first three Panthers she faced reached, including an RBI single back up the middle by Lauren O’Neill. McCarthy was then able to leave two runners on to end the inning.

The Wildcats couldn’t muster up an answer in the bottom of the 10th, though, going down 1-2-3 to end the game, 4-3.

Kiana Broderson-Jones was the only Wildcats with more than one hit, going 2-for-2 with three walks. Burton, Lopez, Llamas, and Dellinger all had one hit for the Wildcats.

Starter Caitlyn Whiteside went nine innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits. She struck out a pair and gave up three walks. McCarthy fell to 18-6 on the year with the loss.
