All Conf / All State Players at Half Way Point

My opinion of All State at halfway point
RB- Reggie Carrol Wm Penn ( obvious)
DT- John Flamer Lake Forest ( all state 2013)
LB- Juwan Morrow DMA ( all state 2013)
and of course Colby Reeder ( obvious)

Ideas on the other All State players who were juniors last year? I have not been able to see them play or watch video on them yet.
Ray Jones DE from hodgson
Stefon Johnson LB from brandywine
ErichScnieder from Middletown

The OL guys from William Penn and Sallies.

Sallies - Tackle #75 Zach Warren

William Penn - Center #66 Brandon Dooley and Guard #59 Jaylin Stanley

They looked good. these teams have the best Run games and Not one mention of there players.

We need someone from the South who watches games to participate and put some names up.. I did forget about the RB from Sussex Tech.. Kani Kane. He is in the conversation.but again I only listed ones I have seen... Its going to be a tough race for RB All-State allot of good ones...

You got your shoe ins that no matter how well their season goes they will get something:

Henderson-A.I, Savage- Caravel, Carroll- William Penn, Jones HVT Selby's-SG

With my two boys graduated now, I'm able to take a look at some other schools. I have seen Kani Kane- Sussex Tech play. He is the real deal over 6'0 230 lbs under a 4.7-40 and runs hard, and is hard to bring down.

You asked about Concord players. Concord is tough this year I saw them twice. Their Linebacker #11 sophomore Avery Roberts 6'2 215 is sick. He's a Lloyd Badson/Jamie Duncan reincarnate. I brought him up on the board last season when he went 1st Team Flight A as a Freshmen leading the team with over 100 tackles. Should be 1st Team All State this year. He was listed as the #1 linebacker in his class, northeast region by Rivals. Their defensive line is a serious problem for offenses #66 Dorsey nose guard, and DT #70 Ezeuzoh made it tough for the games I saw against Salesianum and Middletown. Between the D Line and Linebacker, Concord has been great on defense. Sallies and Middletown got lucky a few times and caught them with their pants down. I don't think either team could beat them again in the playoffs. IMO. On offense, their line is big and Brycen Alleyne #9 is a fire hydrant small, fast, and tough.

I like the guard from St. Marks Keith Medley too. #75 from Sallies is the best thing on that Sallies line. Watts from WP is doing great on special teams. Campbell from Newark looks really good and is having a good season. Just want to see his performance against a team that has a solid defense. if he plays well against Middletown, Concord, and William Penn, I'll give him a nod.

For the Big S #75 on offense....... and #28 and #88 on defense.

I was very impressed with Penn's defense. There must be a couple of players there.

The sals D has a few that could be 1st team all state. Freeborn and Reeder should definitely be first team. Sanzone, Blue, Jarome and Cathers possibly could get all state as well. It will be interesting to see how the Sals do against Poly this Saturday. Should be a good one

A little new to all this but what plays a larger role for all state ..how big the school is, how good the football team is, or how good the individual is? I see a lot of penn and sallies players mentioned but no one from smaller schools like archmere, conrad. Tower hill, DMA and wilmington Charter. Is that because their teams are not as competitive as the other schools or there just isn't the talent? Thanks

Most the folks are commenting on players they have seen at the games so far.. Those schools havent played any games so far that folks would likely go see.. at least folks that post on here reguarly... but I will see Archmere this week and see what they have..

But to answer the All-State question.. yes the better teams will dominate the selections.. although I believe Furrey from Archmere got an AS selection last year.. but traditionally for the smaller schools that don't win much to get a All State selection it woould have to be a player who truly stands out.. Like Tiglman(St Andrews) Ross's(Charter) etc..

Unfortunately, you have picked up on the downside of Delaware football. All of those factors do play a huge part in All-State selections. As you can probably guess, a coach only truly sees the 10 teams that they have played. The coaches who vote usually vote for the names they have heard or seen on blogs like this, or newspapers. Other then that it's a toss up. For example, and only an example, if a school wins the championship, they will have a 5'7" 160lbs guard be recognized as the best guard in the state. Funny right. I can guarantee that whoever the top 5 schools who finish in D1 and D2 will have most of the All State players on there. Honestly, many times this is rightfully so. School choice has taken a big bite out of Delaware athletics, so great athletes lean more towards successful programs. Also Division 1, Blue Hen Conference, and the top private school (Salesianum/ St. Marks) football rules when it comes to getting votes. The other way to guarantee yourself an All-State selection, get a scholarship. Even if you have an average or bad year, you will be All-State. Troy Reeder missed almost half a season once and was still All-State.

Lewis from Penn DT
Burton from Penn TE/DE if he keeps playing like he is should be in running for POY on D.
Ziemba St.Marks WR

Just my 2 cents of players I have seen in person or on film so far.

QB - Campbell(Newark), Jones(HVT)
RB - Carroll(WP), Sturgis(IR), T. Selby(St.G), Kane(ST)
WR - #14(MP), Ziemba(St.Marks)
OL - Skinner(WP), #75(Sals), Drewery(Glasgow), Jones(HVT) - purely a biased pick as he is my son but he is having a great year!

DB - both Selbys(St.G), Carroll(WP), Reeder(Sals), Savage(CA)
LB - Jones(HVT), Hope(WP), Freeborn(Sals), Heinzen(CA) - best open field tackler I have seen in some time
DL - Woodruff(St.G), Wilson(WP), Burton(WP), Badson(CA), Chavis(HVT)

Looking forward to getting out to see more players as the season goes on. Hoping to be at the Newark/Penn game to see Campbell in person.

I have seen #75 from Sallies mentioned a few times to put a name to a number its Zachary Warren ... WR # 14 from Mt Pleasant is a JR Ronald Shipman-Scott.. I have seen him twice and he is a very athletic 6'4 or 6'5 with size kid that is a playmaker.. Someone needs to get that kid to Damon Daniels program next spring.. Def has D1 tools needs to get coached up on the finer points.

FYI Nuk... As for Freeborn I believe he is playing DE for the Sals this year..

Had a brain fart and forgot Savage from CA so I edited my response. I think he should be All-State on offense too, but don't know where to put him WR/RB??? Thought Freeborn played in a 2 point stance against WP so I called him a LB - he and Ray Jones will probably be listed as DE but in my mind they are more hybrid DE/OLB. Just my thoughts...

Sallies plays stand up D ends always has as long as I have watched them .... HVT they morph. actually Jones moves all over from Safety, to OLB and also stand up on the edge.... Jones OLB for HVT Freeborn DE for Sals... Is how I would classify them... Savage is a Wing Back but does play WR when they switch to spread ...

The sals play a 3-4 and Freeborn is technically the "strong side" OLB. His position is more of a hybrid OLB, where he will play on the line or in space depending on the formation.

^ that's how I see. Jones from HVT started the year at safety but was moved to OLB in the CR game, but at the end of the year I bet both are called defensive ends. Really just splitting hairs so we must all be bored.

Agree for the most part but why is anyone still talking about the ME player Jones from HVT ejected from a game and he is still talked about for All-State honors. I see a problem, but I know we will forgive and embrace the player and tell him his behavior was Ok, it was an emotional moment! I see a problem NO DISCIPLINE!

Let's see how he does when he get's into the Heart of the Henlopen North! Does daddy have anything to do with him playing? Speaking of Henderson from Smyrna of course.

Dante Tiberi from St.Es is one of the top DL in the state he doesn't get a lot of the looks other schools get.

Obviously you are looking to stir the pot or have a personal grudge against Ray Jones so I will take the bait. Can you please tell me how he is a me player? Also as I am the water boy and was on the side lines when he was ejected maybe I missed something, so can you tell me why he was ejected? And lastly as my family is very close to his family please educate me on how his parents have handled the situation? If he is the type of kid/player you say, would Ray Jones have been at the youth league in his area taping kids ankles before games, helping coach and encourage the young players on Sunday, explaining his mistake and hoping that they learn from it, apologizing to his teammates and coaches, and practicing like a maniac on the scout team offense and defense to help the starters get better... please educate everyone on the site as I have known this young man for 4 years now and treat him as a son and if he is the fraud you say maybe I have been wrong all this time. Must be hell being perfect IrishQB#11

Well said Nuk.. Jones will be fine and I fully expect to see a very focused Buck when he returns... lesson learned..

@Irish#11..the Smyrna qb is the best I have seen so far this year..very strong leader with a strong arm with quick feet and he is fast and tough when he runs...he only lacks size and I don't think that will hurt him in de....Whatever your true agenda is let it be known because your credibility is at zero to me......just saying

Agree on WP's Lewis during the STM's game he was in the backfield all day, very disruptive, if you are looking for kickers, the Sallies kicker/Punter Sean Smith has been pretty darn good, his punts must be 45-50 yards and hang time is outstanding

Well Papa Henderson that's nice too know! FYI Your credibility means the same to me! Once again let's see how he does when he sinks his teeth into the heart of the Henlopen North schedule. Starting this Friday with SC, hope he has success, I think the kid is a good athlete, but it's a shame a good baseball coach got run out because of Daddy living his dream thru his kids eyes! Got a W versus IR, cool. Also I know he didn't play versus, wait for it , wait for it, Glasgow!

IrishQB--I can assure you that Sportn2011 is not "Papa Henderson"...because I am!

I'm not sure what your agenda is with my son and/or myself, but I believe you're confused...I know I am. First of all, I do agree that Nolan has his hands full with the upcoming Henlopen North schedule...so would any QB. And if he gets knocked face first in the dirt, he'll get up and go at it that much harder the following Friday. That's what he does. Why my particular 10th grader has so much of your attention is beyond me. I'm also not sure where running the last baseball coach out and living my "dream thru my kids eyes" comes from. I didn't follow SHS baseball or know the previous coach until after I got the job last November. And my honors student son's accolades in three sports has already far surpassed anything this former, average, HS baseball player could have ever dreamt. I'm just a proud dad with a front row seat to the HS career this fine young man has started for himself. Anyone who knows my son and I know we're not that family that you've described. For what it's worth though, keep in mind the kids read these posts that have gotten a little out of hand, in my opinion. I've stressed to my son that your unwarranted negativity should fuel motivation, not distraction...but I wonder how it's truly viewed by a 16 year old. I, personally, don't believe it's fair to a sophomore about to "sink his teeth into the heart of the Henlopen North schedule" to read your rants. I'm sure that doesn't concern you though...I'm also sure Nolan will just become stronger from it. However, if you ever want to discuss your obvious frustrations further, feel free to contact me and we'll talk.
On a more positive note...a sincere thank you to Sportn2011(and Wolverine52) for showing support for my son. I don't know you but I do appreciate your efforts. For what it's worth Sportn2011, I agree with your description of Nolan. We are hoping he
inherits a little of my 6'6" frame as he takes more snaps from center!

DENative nice response and spoken as a proud dad and count me in a fan of Nolan!!! Haven't had a chance to see him play yet, but I will make sure I get to one of his games now.

I'm old school lol when I type the words sometimes the damn phone spellcheck messes it up it makes no sense

@#11. As "papa Henderson" stated I'm not the father of that young man ...if anyone has read any of my previous posts they my not know who my kid plays for and I try to be impartial AND POSITIVE when writing about kids I don't personally know..I'm a football fan who attends multiple teams games and I can be very critical during The games from the stands but if I see a player who struggled I will always be positive and encourage the kid to play better...I have seen Nolan Henderson? (Smyrna qb) play 3 Times this year including the game vs Glasgow and he is the best I have seen at qb this year imho !

Post like these can never be fully objective because the majority of us don't see enough games and different players and teams. DENative let me say this....I was at the Laurel game and was greatly impressed by your son. He showed great poise, leadership and ability. He also took some monster shots, got up and went back at it. Had time not expired, I imagine those two teams would still been there trading touchdowns. I wish the best for him the remainder of the season and in his upcoming years. He surely is exciting to watch.
