SUBJECT: University of Delaware Softball Falls To No. 13 UCLA, Defeats Hampton To Wrap Up Play at Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic

DATE: February 8, 2014

kmt:

HONOLULU, Hawaii -- The University of Delaware softball team fell to No. 13 UCLA, 7-0 in the semifinals of the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic on Saturday before rebounding with a 5-2 victory over Hampton in the consolation game as the Blue Hens wrapped up play at the season-opening tournament.

In the semifinal contest, UCLA (4-0) took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Delaney Spaulding legged out an infield single before Stephany LaRosa blasted a two-run homer to leftfield.

Mysha Satarka added a three-run blast in the third inning to put the Bruins up by five runs, while an RBI double by Gracie Goulder and a run-scoring single by LaRosa the following frame closed out the scoring.

UCLA pitcher Jessica Hall would make the lead stand up, as she allowed only a single to Blue Hen senior Brittney Noons in the top of the sixth inning. Hall struck out nine batters and walked just one, improving to 2-0 with the complete game victory.

Delaware starter Carolyn Szymanski dropped to 0-3 after she allowed five earned runs in 2.2 innings, while Taylor Curran was charged with two runs in an inning of work. Kelly Lupton finished the game in the circle for UD by tossing 2.1 frames of scoreless relief.

The Blue Hens fell behind again during the consolation game, as Hampton (1-4) pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI single by Raenelle Taylor and a bases loaded walk to Diamond Ponds.

However Delaware (1-4), which had scored just two runs in the tournament up to that point, erupted for four in the top of the third to take the lead for good. After the Blue Hens loaded the bases with two outs, Heather Oakley ripped a bases loaded single up the middle, driving home Jessica Grisler and Shelby Jones.

Sarah Bencivenga then drilled a triple to rightfield, allowing Lisa Stacevicz and Oakley to cross the plate and give Delaware a 4-2 cushion. The Blue Hens added an insurance run during the top of the sixth when Noons blasted a solo home run, the third longball of her career.

Meanwhile, after allowing the two early runs, Szymanski settled down to toss five scoreless innings and earn the first victory of her Blue Hen career. Jailynn Jackson went the distance for the Pirates, giving up five earned runs on six hits.

Delaware returns to action next weekend when the Blue Hens play four games at the UCF/Holiday Inn Classic in Orlando, Fla.

DATE:  February 8, 2014

NEW YORK -- University of Delaware senior Lindsay Prettyman captured the mile run in record time and the Blue Hen women's indoor track & field squad had two other top 10 finishes during the second and final day of the Armory Collegiate Invitational Saturday at the New York City Armory.

Her winning time set a new Delaware indoor record, breaking one of the Blue Hens' oldest marks of 4:51.6 by Mary Schilly-Knisely way back in 1980. Prettyman also qualified for the post-season ECAC Championships with her winning time.

"We have some very good momentum this season," said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane. "The ladies are progressing nicely. We look to have a larger contingent at the ECAC Championships in March."

In addition to Prettyman, Delaware's Michele Lambert placed ninth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:28.74, good enough to qualify for the ECAC championships, and the 4 x 200 meter relay team of Tyler Jackson, Toresha Foster, Breanna Nicholson, and Kelley Donovan also finished ninth with a time of 1:42.64.

SUBJECT: Usher Continues Torrid Streak, Delaware Men's Basketball Blasts JMU 81-65 to Stay Unbeaten in CAA Action

DATE:  February 12, 2014

sws:

NEWARK, Del. -- The red-hot University of Delaware men's basketball squad continues to roll, and so does Davon Usher.

Usher, coming off a 42-point effort in a comeback win over College of Charleston in his previous outing a week ago, drained 34 more points Wednesday night as the Blue Hens took control early and never looked back in posting an 81-65 victory over James Madison in Colonial Athletic Association play at the Bob Carpenter Center.

The biggest crowd at the BCC in nearly a decade, highlighted by a frenzied student section, was on hand to watch the Blue Hens (19-7, 11-0 CAA) roll to their 13th straight victory overall and their 10th straight triumph at home. The crowd of 4,412 was the largest to fill The Bob since Feb. 19, 2005.

"This was an unbelievable college basketball atmosphere and the students were absolutely fantastic," said Delaware head coach Monte Ross. "This is what college basketball is all about and tonight's atmosphere rivaled any place I have been. Part of this victory goes to our students. They kept our guys fired up the entire night."

Delaware's 13-game win streak is the second longest in school history and the seventh longest current streak in NCAA Division I men's basketball. The Hens' 11-0 start in league play ties the CAA record set by Richmond in 1985-86 and by VCU in 2006-07. The Hens are one of just seven teams in the nation with an undefeated league slate.

Usher, a senior guard out of South Baltimore, Md., continued his impressive scoring spree as he hit on 9 of 17 shots from the field, including four three-pointers, and knocked down 12 of 13 shots from the foul line. Usher, whose 79 points in consecutive games is a new UD record, also pulled down eight rebounds and dished out two assists. He is averaging 33.4 points per game over the last three outings.

Delaware senior center Carl Baptiste posted his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds despite playing just 22 minutes due to foul trouble while senior guard Devon Saddler contributed nine points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Baptiste hit on 8 of 10 shots from the field.

"When Davon rises up for a shot, you expect it to go in every time," said Ross of his high-scoring senior, who entered the game averaging 18.6 points per game on the season. "He is a heck of a player. Devon was phenomenal too and controlled the game for us all night."

James Madison (9-17, 4-8 CAA) lost for the fourth time in the last five outings despite Andre Nation's 17 points and Yohanny Dalembert's career-high 15 points and 13 rebounds off the bench. Nation scored in double figures for the eighth straight game. The Dukes shot just 32.3 percent from the field for the game (20 of 62) and hit just 3 of 15 three-point attempts.

The Blue Hens led by just four points midway through the opening half but broke away on a 14-3 run with Usher's seven points leading the way. The lead ballooned to 51-32 at halftime as the Hens posted their most productive first half since scoring 52 vs. New Hampshire on Jan. 25, 2001.

Delaware led by at least 15 points the entire second half and pushed the lead to as much as 22 points at 81-59 with 3:25 left to play.

The Blue Hens will continue action Monday, Feb. 17, when they travel to Towson for a 7 p.m. tip. Delaware, which swept the season series from JMU, also defeated Towson 83-76 back on Jan. 25.

SUBJECT: University of Delaware Women's Basketball Escapes with 55-50 Victory Over Drexel to Retain Sole Possession of Second Place in CAA Standings

DATE: February 18, 2014

mh:

PHILADELPHIA ? Sophomore Courtni Green (Winchester, Va.) tied a career-high with 18 points as the University of Delaware women's basketball team picked up a crucial 55-50 win over Colonial Athletic Association rival Drexel Tuesday evening at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

The victory marks the sixth straight for the Blue Hens, who improve to 17-6 overall and 9-3 in the CAA to retain sole possession of second place in the league. Drexel drops its second straight to fall to 12-13 overall and 7-5 in conference play to remain in third place. A matchup of the 2012 and 2013 CAA Championship, the two teams have now split the season series after Drexel defeated Delaware, 61-52, on Jan. 19.

Green posted a game-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field while knocking down four baskets from behind the arc. The guard added five rebounds and three assists for Delaware.

Erika Brown (Haledon, N.J.) came through in the clutch for the Blue Hens as the freshman collected career-highs of eight assists and five steals in addition to seven points and five rebounds.

Despite battling foul trouble the entire game, senior Kelsey Buchanan (South Riding, Va.) registered a game-best seven rebounds in addition to eight points.

The three-point basket was the focal point of the night and that was immediately evident as Drexel's Megan Creighton opened the game with a trey and Green countered with her own just 30 seconds later.

The Dragons continued to go on a 12-2 run and led by as much as 10 following another three from Creighton just nine minutes in. The Blue Hens battled back and eventually tied things at 21-21 before holding a 25-24 lead at the half.

Drexel kicked off the second half by overtaking the lead and the two teams kept things close the entire way. With just under 10 minutes to go in the game, Delaware went on an 8-0 run, including two clutch layups from Brown, to go up, 45-41. The Dragons threatened multiple times with various three-point attempts, but the Hens would never look back en route to the win.

Tory Thierolf led Drexel with 16 points, including four three-pointers, in addition to six rebounds and three assists. Creighton tallied 12 points, all on treys while Abby Redick picked up eight points, seven rebounds and four assists in the loss.

POST-GAME QUOTES

Head Coach Tina Martin

"I don't know how we won that game, but we came through in the end. We hung in there when we needed to and our kids didn't hang their heads when I was yelling at them. They stayed with it and we came out with the victory. It seemed as though our whole front line was in foul trouble early on and Stephanie Leon, Erika Brown and Alecia Bell stepped up huge. While it may not show up in the stats, our bench was crucial tonight. I'm happy to leave here with a win because Drexel is always a tough team and even more so on their home court.

Freshman Erika Brown

"We went into the lockerroom at halftime with a lead and coach was really harping on our defense. I felt that we did a better job and improved in the second half as Drexel didn't handle our pressure all that well. We were able to play through our fatigue and continued to play tough defense because we knew the offense would follow. This win meant a lot and this was a big game."

HEN SCRATCHINGS

· Delaware has won six straight games.

· UD has had at least two players score in double figures in all 23 games this season.

· Delaware outshot Drexel, 44.7 percent (21-47) to 30.4 percent (17-56). The Hens also dominated in the paint, picking up 22 points to just two for the Dragons.

· Kelsey Buchanan scored eight points against the Dragons; snapping a 22-game streak where she scored at least 10 in each game.

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Devon Saddler converted a go-ahead layup with 47 seconds remaining and the Blue Hens got a couple of key stops late as the University of Delaware men's basketball team edged Hofstra, 81-77, Wednesday night at the Mack Sports Complex to secure its 20th win of the season.

The Blue Hens improved to 20-8 overall and 12-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association, recording the seventh 20-win season in program history and the first since 2000-01. Delaware maintained its two-game lead over Towson in the conference standings, defeating Hofstra for the seventh consecutive meeting.

The win was the 110th for eighth-year Blue Hen head coach Monte Ross, moving him into a tie for second place on the UD career wins list along with Irv Wisniewski.

Davon Usher again led the way with 27 points, leading the Blue Hens in scoring for the fifth straight game. Saddler, who became Delaware's career leader in free throws made and surpassed the 500-rebound mark, added 24 points on the night. Kyle Anderson contributed 18 points, his highest total since Dec. 30, while Carl Baptiste recorded his third consecutive double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Hofstra, which dropped to 8-20 overall and 4-9 in the conference, lost for the eighth time in nine games. Zeke Upshaw paced the Pride with 26 points, while Dion Nesmith added 22 on the night.

The Blue Hens trailed by nine points at the break, but scored 49 second half points to overcome a halftime deficit for the eighth time this season, Anderson scored eight of Delaware's first 10 second half points, while his triple from the left corner brought the Blue Hens within 46-42 with 16:40 to play.

Anderson later converted a driving layup to make it a one-point game, but Nesmith answered with the next eight Hofstra points as the Pride went back up eight at 59-51 at the 12-minute mark.

But Delaware would keep coming, as Saddler buried a three-pointer from the top of the key to again cut the Hofstra margin to a point before an Usher three-pointer knotted the contest at 65-65 with 7:42 remaining.

The Blue Hens went on top 71-68 on an Usher turnaround jumper, while a driving layup by Saddler put Delaware in front 75-73 with 2:25 to play. Upshaw quickly brought Hofstra even with a jumper, and the game remained tied until Saddler followed his own blocked shot with a layup to put UD up for good with 47 seconds left.

The Pride then missed a pair of three-pointers, before Nesmith's driving layup was off the mark and Anderson grabbed the rebound while getting fouled. The Blue Hen junior then drilled a pair of free throws at the other end, and Delaware held on from there to win for the 16th time in 19 CAA road games.

"We have a group that doesn't give up and knows what it takes to come back," said Blue Hen head coach Monte Ross. "Hofstra was making some tough, contested shots in the first half, and I thought we were OK going into halftime just down nine. Kyle (Anderson) is a confident kid, and we have a lot of confidence in him."

Delaware misfired on its first eight shots from the field while Hofstra's early lead grew to 15-3 following a Jamall Robinson three-pointer, forcing a Blue Hen time out at the 13:09 mark.

Two Usher buckets cut the margin to 23-13 but Hofstra, which connected on six of its first nine three-point attempts, went back up 13 on a Chris Jenkins triple with four minutes to play in the period. The Pride led by as many as 15 points before Delaware countered with seven straight points, while a late free throw by Jordan Allen gave the Pride a 41-32 lead at the break.

DATE:  March 7, 2014

sws:

PHILADELPHIA -- The University of Delaware women's rowing squad, led by second-year head coach Kevin Gruber, will hit the water for the first official race of the spring Saturday as the Blue Hens take part in a quad meet with Philadelphia area foes Saint Joseph's, Drexel, and LaSalle.

The quad meet, hosted by Saint Joseph's, will be held on the Schuylkill River and begin at 10 a.m. The teams will compete in the Varsity Eights, Second Varsity Eights, and Varsity Fours events. Delaware will have two entries in the Varsity Fours race.

"Winter training has been great," said Gruber. "We are fighting some injuries, but overall the team is much more fit than they were a couple weeks back. Now the challenge is turning indoor speed into outdoor speed and we'll start that process Saturday in Philadelphia. Our early spring schedule is aggressive with races every weekend in March, every trip down the course should be a learning experience. Our goal is to be mentally tough racers by the time we hit Spring Break week in early April. That toughness will pay off in the late spring championship races."

Delaware's top team, the Varsity Eights, will consist of coxswain Molly Gardner, Denise Cirelli, Kat Francis, Jenny Kohler, Catherine Manner, Annie Waskover, Calla Cissel, Hannah Scholes, and Lily Guttentag.

The Second Varsity Eights team will consist of coxswain Hayley Diverio, Meredith Murphy, Corey Holloway, Kate Flood, Angela Quinn, Shannon Taylor, Danni Weader, Carly Alexander, and Jenn Boone.

The Varsity Fours teams will be coxswain Jamie Noce, Megan Kirby, Kathleen Garrity, Shannon Bell, and Sam Noel for the A team and coxswain Sarah Tenenbaum, Meghan Gerber, Jeannie Kontos, Curtira Williams, and Rebecca Sassone for the B team.

SUBJECT: Led by Buchanan, University of Delaware Women's Basketball Advances to Fourth Straight CAA Championship Game with 60-52 Victory Over Charleston

DATE: March 15, 2014

mlh:

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. ? Senior Kelsey Buchanan (South Riding, Va.) is making the most out of her final games as a collegiate student-athlete as the senior guided the University of Delaware women's basketball team to a 60-52 Colonial Athletic Association Tournament semifinal win over the College of Charleston Saturday at The Show Place Arena.

The Blue Hens now advance to the program's fourth straight Colonial Athletic Association championship game.

The second-seeded and two-time defending CAA champion Blue Hens (20-9) move on to face top-seeded James Madison (27-5) at noon Sunday in the CAA Tournament championship game with a shot to earn the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament. The contest will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet.

Buchanan set a new program CAA Tournament record with a career-best 19 rebounds against the Cougars, besting Chrissy Fisher's mark of 14 set against Northeastern on March 9, 2006. Additionally, as a team, the Blue Hens collected 60 rebounds to tie the CAA Tournament record and overtake the program's previous record of 51 tallied against Drexel on March 7, 2002.

In addition to her 19 boards, Buchanan completed the double double with 14 points. She also added a game-best five assists for Delaware.

Sophomore guard Courtni Green (Winchester, Va.) scored nine of her 15 points in the second half and added four rebounds and four assists. Fellow sophomore Joy Caracciolo (Manassas, Va.) netted seven points and grabbed 11 boards in the win.

Charleston led by one at halftime, 27-26, but never regained the lead from the 19:21 mark of the second half on.

Despite second half shooting struggles, the Cougars crept within two at 52-50, with 2:26 left. Each squad traded possessions as the game winded down when UD turned to Buchanan with less than one minute to play. The All-CAA center drained a clutch jumper with 39 seconds left that pushed the lead to four points and was just enough for the Blue Hens to come out victorious.

CofC junior center Mikaela Hopkins scored 11 points to go along with eight rebounds and senior Afreyea Tolbert had 12 points and eight boards for the first-year CAA member Cougars (17-4).

POST-GAME QUOTES

Head Coach Tina Martin

"First I'd like to congratulate the College of Charleston. In their first year in the league, they have certainly made a statement. I thought their seniors played really well and I was really impressed with them all year. Their size and veteran leadership makes them a difficult team to play. Obviously, today was a very hard fought game. Defensively, we played the best we have in weeks. It was our defense that won the game for us today."

[On team youth]: "This team has come so far this season. We're so young and I'm so proud of these kids as they've grown so much in the past few months. Nobody thought Delaware would be sitting in this position right now. We've climbed the mountain all year long of people not believing in us and now we have a job to finish."

Senior Kelsey Buchanan

"Since my shots weren't dropping, I knew I had to get on the rebounds and go after the ball. As a team, things weren't going right in the first half, but we knew we had to stick together as it would all work itself out in the end. I'm so proud of this team. When we started the season, everything was so new to everyone. No one knew anything and I thought this was going to be a long year, but they listened and trusted the leadership and they've come around."

HEN SCRATCHINGS

· Delaware has won eight straight and 11 of its last 12 CAA Tournament contests.

· UD is now 21-10 all-time in the CAA Tournament.

· The Blue Hens have won at least 20 games in each of the last four seasons and 11 of the last 14.

· Earlier this season, Joy Caracciolo[/B] grabbed 19 rebounds at Rider. The mark was the most for a Blue Hen since Sharon Wisler[/B] posted 20 against Bucknell on March 5, 1989.

· Kelsey Buchanan[/B] has been a part of a CAA Championship game in each of her four seasons at Delaware.

· The College of Charleston held an 11-point advantage in the first half before the Blue Hens went on a 17-2 run over a span of 4:44 minutes.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

· Sunday, March 16 ? #2 Delaware vs. #1 James Madison ? CAA Tournament Championship Game ? Noon ? Show Place Arena (Upper Marlboro, Md.)

· Further post-season play TBA

NEWARK, Del. -- College of Charleston shortstop Lizzy Vaughn delivered a two-run single with two outs in the top of the seventh inning as the Cougars came back to post a 3-2 victory over the University of Delaware softball team Sunday afternoon at the UD Softball Stadium in the rubber match of the three-game CAA weekend series.

The Cougars, who improved to 20-11 overall and 2-1 in league play, trailed by a run heading into the final frame. But after Blue Hen pitcher Kelly Lupton retired the first batter of the inning, Kelsey Hodgson reached on an error by UD shortstop Sarah Bencivenga before Allison Pedigo looped a single to right. Delaware was one out from victory following a groundout by Katie Padilla but Vaughn then ripped a single to right, driving home both runners to put CofC on top.

Delaware, which dropped to 8-15 overall and 1-2 in the CAA, attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh when pinch hitter Lisa Stacevicz lined a one-out single to left. But Samantha Martin then took over in the circle for the Cougars, and she got Jessica Grisler to fly out to center before striking out Danielle Wissinger to end the game.

Martin earned her first save of the season, while CofC starter Hope Klicker improved to 10-9 after she allowed two earned runs on six hits in 6.1 innings of work. Lupton was the hard luck loser for the Blue Hens, as she dropped to 3-4 despite allowing just one unearned run on seven hits.

Delaware took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Grisler led off with a single to center and scored one out later on a triple into the gap in rightcenter by Giovanna Kolofer.

The Cougars quickly drew even in the top of the second as Becca Mueller led off with a triple to left and immediately scored when Chandler Frisbie followed with an RBI single to left.

The Blue Hens went right back ahead during the bottom half when Grisler lofted a sacrifice fly to left to drive home pinch runner Morgan Schroll, and Delaware maintained its one-run lead until the Cougars' comeback in the seventh.

Szymanski went 2 for 3 at the plate for Delaware, while Grisler and Kolofer each added a hit and an RBI.

Delaware remains home on Wednesday to host Coppin State in a 3 p.m. non-league doubleheader at the UD Softball Stadium.

SUBJECT: Fast Start Doesn't Hold Up as University of Delaware Falls to Towson 11-8 in CAA Men's Lacrosse Battle

DATE:  March 22, 2014

sws:

TOWSON, Md. -- The University of Delaware burst out to an early 5-0 lead and maintained a four-goal advantage at halftime, but the lead wouldn't hold up as host Towson rallied in the second half to down the Blue Hens 11-8 in Colonial Athletic Association men's lacrosse action Saturday night at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

Delaware led 8-4 at the break and was still tied heading into the final stanza, but Towson scored three times in the last period to post the victory. The Blue Hens took a share of the lead into the second half for the second straight game but could not pull out the victory after falling to CAA foe Hofstra 11-9 last Saturday.

The Blue Hens (5-4, 0-2 CAA) dropped their second straight game after winning four straight earlier this season. Redshirt freshman Steve DeLargy led the Hens in scoring for the second straight game with two goals and an assist while Jeff Heath scored twice and Dan Keane and Brian Kormondy each added a goal and an assist.

Towson (7-2, 1-0 CAA) outscored the Hens 7-0 in the second half to win its sixth straight game and down the Hens for the third straight year. Greg Cuccinello had two goals and two assists, Ryan Drenner scored twice and dished out one assist, Ben McCarty tallied twice, and Justin Mabus had a goal and dished out a game-high four assists.

The Tigers held a commanding 41-20 advantage in shots, but put only 15 on goal as UD goalkeeper Conor Peaks stopped four shots. Towson also held a 27-21 edge in groundballs and had five less turnovers than the Blue Hens (12-7).

Delaware did hold the advantage in faceoffs as Tyler Barbarich, who entered the game ranked No. 4 in the nation in winning percentage, won 13 of 21 draws and picked up seven groundballs.

The Hens roared out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter as Kormondy scored the game's first goal just over three minutes in and Heath and DeLargy each tallied twice in the first nine minutes of play. Towson followed with two straight goals, but the Hens answered back on goals from Keane and Tom Holland to up the lead to 7-2.

Towson inched closer with goals by Drenner and Cuccinello, but the Hens took a strong 8-4 lead into the second half on a goal by Beau Jones with 1:18 remaining before the break. Unfortunately, that would be the Blue Hens' final goal of the game.

The Tigers dominated the second half as they outscored the Hens 7-0 to earn the win. Joe Seider, McCarthy, and Cuccinello scored for Towson in the third period and Max Siskind tallied a man-up goal with 1:54 left in that stanza to knot the score at 8-8. Towson then took the lead for good when McCarty scored unassisted just under five minutes into the final stanza. Goals by Devin Grimaldi and Drenner in the final 7:40 secured the victory as Delaware managed just two shots over the final 15 minutes.

Delaware will continue CAA play this Saturday when the Blue Hens return home to face Drexel at 1 p.m. at Delaware Stadium in CAA action.

NEWARK, Del. ? Following the announcement of the National Academic Team Award recipients, NFHCA named 12 University of Delaware field hockey student-athletes to its National Academic Squad for their work in the classroom.

The 2013 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad honors individuals who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher during the first semester of the 2013-14 year, which is possibly the busiest time of the year for these student-athletes as they are amidst their championship season.

"It took a team effort to once again be recognized as a National Academic Team, but it takes a true commitment and investment of our student-athletes to secure GPAs that results in our 2013 fall semester team GPA of a 3.35," stated head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof.

Six freshmen (Taylor Meily, Maddie O'Beirne, Fran Orella, Marjelle Scheffers, Meghan Winesett, Maura Zarkoski), two sophomores (Janell Holmes, Morgan Hudson), one junior (Kelsey McKee) and three seniors (Clare O'Malley, Kasey Prettyman, Sarah Scher) on the list represented Delaware.

"On behalf of the University of Delaware field hockey program, I am very excited to congratulate Janell, Morgan, Kelsey, Taylor, Maddie, Clare, Fran, Kasey, Marjelle, Sarah, Meghan and Maura on their outstanding academic performance this past semester," exclaimed Van de Kerkhof. "These 12 student-athletes represent the highest number of Blue Hens players ever listed on a National Academic Squad list to date. The future of UD field hockey looks bright with the recent successes in the classroom and on the field, and even more importantly, the understanding on how to prepare for and pursue excellence in the semesters and seasons to come."
