SUBJECT: Taylor Carter of Wilmington Women's Basketball Named to WBCA's Coaching Program

Newark, Del. - - On the heels of the 2014-2015 season, senior guard Taylor Carter was named to The Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) 13th annual "So You Want To Be A Coach" program. The program is highlighted by a three-day workshop in Tampa, Florida.

Carter, of Baltimore, Md., led the CACC conference in 3-point percentage this season at 43.1 percent. As a 16-game starter for the Wildcats, she shot 28 of 65 from behind the arc.

WBCA's "So You Want To Be A Coach Program" will take place April 3-5 in conjunction with the WBCA National Convention. After being founded in 1981, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association aims to promote women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport. In addition, they foster and promote the development of the game as a sport for women and girls.

According to the WBCA website, www.wbca.org, the main goal of the program is to develop student-athletes into great leaders and ambassadors for women's basketball, and WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew is thrilled with the outlook of this year's class. "The interest in the 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program has been incredible this year, and we are ecstatic to see the numerous benefits this program has had on so many young, aspiring coaches," she said. "Each year, the WBCA works relentlessly to improve and develop this entry-level program."

In order to be qualified for the program, applicants must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or have graduated within the past year. In addition, Carter had to be nominated by head coach Tiffany Silver, an active WBCA member. Silver knows her well, coaching Carter at Western High School, where the 5-foot guard was a three-year letterwinner.

Each participant is selected based on her academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume and the written recommendation from their head coach. In 2014, Carter was a Wilmington Academic All-Star and was inducted to Chi Alpha Sigma's Honor Society.

SUBJECT: Rashaun Rasheed Captures Wilmington Men's Basketball's First Ever Postseason Victory with 69-67 Win at Dominican

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. - - Senior Rashaun Rasheed hit a jumper from the left side with 1.0 seconds left with to propel the Wilmington University men's basketball team past Dominican, 69-67, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Quarterfinal matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Hennessy Center.

The Wildcats (10-19) are the fourth seed from the South Division while the Chargers (14-13) were the North Division Regular Season Champions and top seed. The playoff victory was the first postseason victory in Wilmington men's basketball NCAA era, dating back to the 2004-05 season.

Dominican battled back from a 12-point deficit in the second half to tie the game with 33 seconds left on a fastbreak three-point play. The Wildcats held the ball on the last possession with the shot-clock unplugged.

Letting his players figure it out, first year head coach Dan Burke did not call a timeout on the last possession, keeping the ball in senior Valentino Thompson's hands. As he made his move to the bucket with under 10 seconds to play, three Chargers collapsed on the ball handler while Thompson dished it out to classmate Rasheed on the pick and pop.

Rasheed calmly pulled up from the left elbow extended, hitting the jumper as the clock showed 1.0 seconds remaining. Dominican was unable to hit the halfcourt shot as time expired, giving the Wildcats their first postseason victory and allowing them to advance to the CACC Semifinals hosted at Philadelphia University on Friday.

The Wildcats led for 36:16 out of a possible 40 minutes on Saturday, taking the lead in the first minute of the second half and never looking back until the final minute.

With the score tied at 36-36 at the half, the Wildcats used an 11-2 spurt to grab a 47-38 lead with 14:34 left in regulation. Tyrik Gass gave the Wildcats their largest lead of the second half with a wide open layup off a dish from Rasheed with 8:52 to play before the Chargers made their move.

A pair from the foul line and a three-pointer quickly cut the Wildcats' lead in half before another three-pointer brought the Chargers to within a single point at 61-60 with 4:18 to play.

Thompson hit a pair of clutch free throws with 1:37 to play and the Wildcats came up with a steal on the defensive end on the next possession but couldn't make the Chargers pay with a missed three-pointer. Robert Hueston got loose off the miss put in a fast break layup while being fouled, tying the game with the free throw and 33 seconds left, setting up the heroics from Rasheed.

Rasheed finished with six points but 2-of-2 from the floor while Tyaire Ponzo-Meek led the Wildcats with 17 points. Kevin Ohen scored 16 points while Ta'Vaune Griffin grabbed a game high 14 rebounds. Griffin also came up with five blocked shots on the defensive end.

The Wildcats out-rebounded the Chargers, 50-35, including a 25-12 advantage on the offensive glass. Wilmington shot 39.1 percent from the floor but had 18 more opportunities than Dominican. The Wildcats remarkably went 0-for-12 from beyond the three-point arc and still pulled out the victory.

With the win, the Wildcats move on to play South Division No. 2 Holy Family on Friday in the nightcap at Philadelphia University. The Wildcats and Tigers will follow the USciences and Philadelphia game starting at 5 p.m. with an approximate start time of 7 p.m.

BOCA RATON, Fla. - - A two-run seventh inning backed an outstanding pitching performance by the Wilmington University baseball team as they defeated No. 23 Southern New Hampshire, 2-1, for its first win of the 2015 season.
The Wildcats (1-2) scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit while the back end of the bullpen held onto the lead over the final three Penmen (6-5) at-bats for the win.

Matt Lopes started the inning with an eight-pitch walk before a bunt single by Tyler Hawthorne had runners on first and third with no outs in the inning. Mike Annone grounded one to first base but the Penmen went for the double play as Lopes came home to tie the score, 1-1.

SUBJECT: Wilmington Softball Drops a Pair of Florida Games to Nationally Ranked Opponents
DATE: March 11, 2015

CLERMONT, Fla. - - The Wilmington University softball team dropped a pair of games to nationally ranked teams on Wednesday morning, falling 8-7 to #23 West Virginia Wesleyan and 9-4 to #22 Southern Indiana in the day's second game at the National Training Center.
West Virginia Wesleyan was ranked #23 in last week's NFCA National Poll but fell out of the national poll when the new rankings came out after the game was completed. Southern Indiana received votes last week in the national poll and moved into the No. 22 spot in Wednesday's updated rankings, which were released just before the start of their game against the Wildcats (7-5).
The Wildcats nearly came back to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth to make it a one run game. Miranda Pedersen singled with one out to represent the tying run on base in the bottom of the seventh. After a pitching change, Alyssa Shawgo induced a pop out and a ground out, ending the threat and earning the save for the Bobcats.
Kelsey Doherty batted 2-for-3 at the top of the Wildcats lineup, including a two-run single in the sixth to cut the deficit to a single run. Colby Wyatt, Pedersen, and Chelsea Botsch also collected two hits each in the win, with Botsch adding an RBI in the sixth inning to start the scoring. Pinch hitter Shannon Brantley went 1-for-1 with a two-run double in the fourth.
Danielle Bradley was saddled with the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) in the fourth inning. Anna Eggleston picked up the win for the Bobcats with 6.1 innings pitched, allowing seven runs on 11 hits.
The Wildcats jumped out in front of newly ranked Southern Indiana as Doherty led off the bottom of the first with an infield single. She came around to score as Wyatt grounded out to the pitcher, scoring on the throw.
The Screaming Eagles scored single runs in the top of the second and third innings but the Wildcats answered with a crooked number in the bottom of the third. Becca Stanley led off the inning with an infield single before back-to-back single by Doherty and Cambria Ziemba loaded the bases with one out. Wyatt chopped one to the pitcher but her throw home was off the mark, allowing two runs to come home. Pedersen followed with a squeeze bunt, scoring Ziemba from third for the 4-2 lead.
A three-run homer in the top of the fourth inning erased the Wilmington lead however, as Southern Indiana went on to tack four more insurance runs on in the top of the fifth.
Doherty went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the second game of the day while Ziemba, Stanley, and Kaitlyn Slater added single base hits in the contest. Botsch took the loss in 3.2 innings of relief, falling to 2-3 on the year.
The Wildcats wrap up their 14-game stay in Florida on Thursday, playing a doubleheader against regional foe Southern Connecticut State. The first pitch of the twin bill is schedule for 9 a.m. at the National Training Center.

SUBJECT: Frank Samluk Strikes Out 15 in a Game One Victory but Wilmington Baseball Splits Day with Mercy

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - - Senior Frank Samluk recorded 15 strikeouts to lead the Wilmington University baseball team past Mercy, 5-4, in the first game of a doubleheader but the Wildcats dropped game two, 8-5, on Thursday afternoon at Mercy Field.
Samluk's 15 strikeouts came in seven innings of work, as he only allowed one hit and one walk before turning the ball over to the bullpen leading 5-0. Peter Monahan collected a pair of strikeouts before Tyler Fries added two more, setting the record for the Wildcats (5-6) with 19 total strikeouts in a single game.
The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning, getting a base hit bunt by Sam Goines to score Jon Castro with one out.
After Samluk shut down the Mavericks (3-7) in the top of the seventh, the Wildcats added four runs in the bottom of the seventh, which proved to be necessary.
With the bases loaded and one out, a pitch hit Mike Annone to force in the inning's first run before Christian Adorno scored on a wild pitch. Sean Feeney walked to reload the bases with one out before Goines added his second RBI of the game with a single into left field. Matt Lopes knocked in the final run of the inning on a fielder's choice as Annone came home when the play went to third base.
Monahan came on in the eighth inning and worked around a leadoff hit by pitch, striking out a pair of batters, including the final out of the inning. The Wildcats left the bases loaded in the eighth without scoring a run before Mercy made things interesting in the ninth.
The Mavericks put the first three batters on base, getting an RBI single from Bryan Greig. After Chris Lopez induced a fly ball for the first out, James Patterson raced around the bases for an inside the park homerun, bringing the score to 5-4.
Tyler Fries came on to pitch looking for the save and quickly picked up a strikeout for the second out of the inning, setting the record for a single game. After an infield single, Fries earned his fourth save of the season with another strikeout to end the game.
The Mavericks put a pair of four run innings on the board to seize momentum in the nightcap, scoring four in the third and four more in the fifth inning. The Wildcats attempted to make a big comeback in the bottom of the seventh but could only muster three runs to cut the deficit to 8-5 in the seven-inning game.
The scoring started in the bottom of the second as the Wildcats had runners on second and third with one out. Nick Macey grounded one back to the pitcher, but a tough enough ball to allow Goines to score from third for the 1-0 lead.
Mercy led off the third with a triple but the Wildcats were able to catch the Mavericks attempting to steal home, leaving the bases empty with two outs. But four straight hits, including a two-run homer to left put the Mavericks ahead, 4-1.
Six more hits in the fifth inning brought four more runs home for the Mavericks while they also left three runners on base.
Still trailing 8-2 with their last chance, the Wildcats put together five hits in the seventh, scoring three runs. Jon Castro scored on a wild pitch after singling through the left side and Samluk brought home the inning's second run with a single into center. Feeney made the game 8-5 with a single to score Samluk, but that would be all the Wildcats would get as Goines flied out to end the game.
Rob Gore was saddled with the loss in game two, tossing 4.2 innings while allowing eight runs on 10 hits. Jake Wersinger pitched 1.1 scoreless innings before Matt Frost tossed a scoreless seventh with a pair of strikeouts.
Feeney went 3-for-4 in game two while Goines went 2-for-4 in the nightcap, adding to his 2-for-4 game to start the day.
The Wildcats are set to begin their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday as their doubleheader against Concordia has been switched to a home game at Wilson Field. The first pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.

NEWARK, Del. - - In a tight matchup where both teams exchanged the lead several times, the Wilmington University women's lacrosse team was able to hold on to secure a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Nyack, 18-15, on Saturday afternoon at the WU Athletics Complex.
The Wildcats (5-9, 4-2 CACC) would play catch-up early on in a close contest as Nyack (3-9, 1-5 CACC) would strike first with a goal by Nicole Pikerson with 29:30 left in regulation. The Wildcats would answer right back with an unassisted goal by Gabby Spalt with 27:06 left in regulation. This would set the tone for the remainder of the half.
The Wildcats would break 2-2 tie as Megan Keffer scored with 21:26 left in regulation, which was also the 100th goal for her career. She is the sixth Wildcat to reach the 100-career goal plateau since the inception of the program in 2007. Rebekah McCurry, another player who has surpassed the 100-goal milestone earlier this season, assisted on the goal.
The Wildcats took a 4-2 lead before Nyack came back and scored four straight to regain a 6-4 lead with 14:10 left in the first half. Goals by Morgan Tildon and Katie Spence gave the Wildcats a 9-8 lead with 2:33 left in the half but the Warriors were able to go into the halftime break with a 10-9 lead, getting back-to-back goals in a matter of 43 seconds.
After the first half, the Wildcats would continue their back and forth fight with the Warriors until a goal by Madeline Hewitt at 14:28 allowed the Wildcats to break the 13-13 tie and sparked a 5-0 run which would help them secure the win on the afternoon. Goals from Keffer, Boykin (2), and Hewitt capped the run to put the Wildcats ahead 18-13.
The Warriors would not go without a fight however, as Victoria Silvers scored with 1:17 left and Lauren Lebo would put one in with 14 seconds left in regulation. Unfortunately time was not on Nyack's side as the Wildcats were able to hold on and secure the conference win as time ran out.
La'Dae Boykin led the attack for the Wildcats with five goals, as well as an assist. Spalt, Keffer, and Hewitt all tallied three goals each in the contest. Morgan Tildon contributed with two goals, and Rebekah McCurry and Katie Spence each added a goal as well. McCurry also led the way with five assists, seven draw controls, and five caused turnovers on the day.
On the day, the Wildcats outshot the Warriors, 45-20, as well as scooped up more groundballs, 35-21, and surrendered less turnovers, 14-26, which would help the Wildcats secure the win.
Goalkeeper Corinne Dries had four saves on Saturday, which turned out to be vital for the Wildcats during such a tight contest. The Warriors' Madeline Barbarino made 17 saves on the afternoon.
The Wildcats look to continue their winning ways as they are on the road in CACC action against Caldwell on Tuesday at the Verona Community Center. The first draw is set for a 12 p.m. start time.

NEW CASTLE, Del. - - The duo of Chelsea Botsch and Brooke Lachette was at it again on Sunday afternoon, extending the Wilmington University softball team's shutout streak to 44.2 consecutive innings with a pair of 4-0 victories over Georgian Court at Asbury Field.
The wins are the sixth and seventh consecutive shutouts and the seventh and eighth straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victories for the Wildcats (20-11, 11-5 CACC). Georgian Court (10-24, 9-7 CACC) only mustered two hits in game one and four in game two.
The opener belong to Botsch as she cruised through the Lion lineup, striking out seven consecutive batters at one point, accounting for 12 straight outs from the last out of the first through the second out of the sixth. The lone hiccup was a leadoff walk in the fifth inning.
Botsch gave up a leadoff single in the top of first inning, allowed the leadoff walk in the fifth, a one out single in the seventh, and a two out walk in the seventh. She improved to 9-5 on the season with the shutout, picking up a career high 15 strikeouts on the afternoon.
The offense aided Botsch in the first inning as Cambria Ziemba started things off with a one out single. After stealing second, Ziemba came around to score on a fielding error off the bat of Ashley Bennett, giving the Wildcats the quick 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats were at it again in the second inning, starting with a leadoff single from Miranda Pedersen. A one-out error with the bases loaded allowed two runs to come home, putting the Wildcats ahead 3-0.
Ashley Bennett started a third inning rally with a leadoff single to center. Pedersen singled in the inning as well before Michelle Panasiti grounded out to first base, hard enough to allow Kaitlyn Slater to score from third for the 4-0 lead.
Botsch took it from there, striking out the final batter of the game with two runners on, her only jam of the afternoon.
Pedersen went 3-for-3 in the first game while Ziemba, Bennett, and Taylor Rizzotte collected one hit each.
It was Lachette's turn in game two, picking up right where Botsch left off with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the first. The Lions threatened in the second, getting their leadoff batter to third base with two outs, but Lachette induced a ground out to get out of the jam.
The bats backed Lachette up in the bottom of the second, as she helped herself with an RBI single through the right side, scoring Danielle Bradley who led off the inning with a single and a stolen base. A throwing error allowed pinch runner Monique Rojas to score the games' second run and that was all Lachette needed in the circle.
The offense added two more runs in the fifth inning, all coming with two outs and no one on base. Slater started the rally with a single through the left side before Pedersen chased her home with a double in the gap in left center. Bradley followed with a single to right, allowing Pedersen to score from second.
Lachette finished off the Lions by leaving a runner on third in the sixth and a perfect 1-2-3 inning in the seventh for the 4-0 complete game shutout. The sophomore struck out three batters while allowing four hits to improve to 8-4 on the season.
Bradley batted 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the nightcap while Lachette batted 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday when they head to Philadelphia to take on USciences in another CACC doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is set for 2 p.m.

The win secures a CACC Tournament berth for the Wildcats (6-9, 5-2 CACC) with seeding yet to be determined with one game remaining in the regular season. Caldwell (3-9, 2-6 CACC) hung with the Wildcats and had the game tied 8-8 in the second half before the visitors scored three straight and 10 of the games' final 11 goals for the victory.
Sophomore Gabby Spalt scored her second goal of the day just 29 seconds into the second half before Katie Spence added her first of the game less than a minute later to give the Wildcats an 8-6 lead early in the second frame.
But the Cougars bounced back with back-to-back goals of their own, tying the game with two free position shots with 22:56 to play.
Wilmington netminder Corinne Dries came up with a save with the game tied 8-8 and the Wildcats took the ball the other way. Morgan Tildon had a shot saved before Maddie Hewitt fired a free position attempt high. The Wildcats retained possession however, and La'Dae Boykin found Hewitt for her 22nd goal of the season with 20:09 to spark a 3-0 run. The Wildcats wouldn't give up the lead again.
Dries again made a save leading by a goal and Spalt took advantage of a man-advantage situation at the other end, scoring quick back-to-back goals for the 11-8 lead.
Caldwell ended the run and closed the gap to 11-9 with 15:49 to play, but then it was all Wilmington from there on out, as the Wildcats finished the game on a 7-0 run for the win.
Sara LeBrun went on her own scoring streak, tallying three straight and four of the next five goals for the Wildcats to open a large 16-9 lead with 4:12 to play. Spence scored her second of the day to break up the LeBrun scoring fest before Hewitt and Rebekah McCurry capped the scoring at the end of the game.
The first half went back and forth as the Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Wildcats scored three straight. Caldwell came back to score three of the next four goals to take a 5-4 lead before Wilmington tallied two of the last three goals of the half to enter the break deadlocked at 6-6.
Caldwell outshot the Wildcats 17-12 in the first half, but Dries made eight saves in the opening 30 minutes to keep the Wildcats in the contest. The Wildcats would end up out shooting the Cougars, 31-28, for the game. The ground ball game was even at 15-15 but the Wildcats earned more draws, 18-10, to start off with possession.

Hewitt recorded a hat trick with three goals while Spence and Megan Keffer chipped in with two each. BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - - Senior second baseman Josh Swirchak has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) East Region Hitter of the Week award after leading the Wilmington University baseball team to a perfect 4-0 record last week.

NEWARK, Del. - - Riding a 10-game winning streak and winners of 19 of its last 20 games overall, the Wilmington University baseball team has entered a pair of national polls this week, getting recognized in the D2BaseballNews.com and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Polls.
The Wildcats (24-7 overall, 14-0 CACC) moved into the D2BaseballNews.com poll in the No. 24 spot while also moving up to No. 2 in the site's East Region Poll. The Wildcats are directly behind North Georgia and just ahead of Millersville in the national poll.
Wilmington also made its first appearance in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Division II Poll this week, coming in at No. 25 overall. The Wildcats received 96 points and are directly behind St. Edwards (110 points) and just ahead of Columbus State (90 points) in the national poll.
The Wildcats also received two points in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Poll while also moving up to third in the same East Region Poll.
These polls are a tool to gauge where the Wildcats are compared to other baseball teams in the East Region and all of Division II, but hold no standard to the official NCAA Regional Polls that come out later this month. The Wildcats need to be one of the top six teams in the NCAA Regional Poll at the end of the year to be invited to the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament.

Rutgers Softball Dominates Maryland in Doubleheader

Alyssa Landrith becomes RU’s all-time wins leader

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 21, 2015) -- Behind powerful hitting and solid pitching, the Rutgers softball team dominated Maryland in a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader at the RU Softball Complex. The Scarlet Knights came from behind to claim a 6-5 victory in the opening contest before rolling over the Terps, 11-3, with a five-inning victory in the next.

RU improves to an overall record of 26-14 and a Big Ten mark of 10-7, while UMD drops to 26-21 overall and 8-9 in league action.

Senior Alyssa Landrith (Vacaville, Calif.) became Rutgers' all-time wins leader, registering her 66th career win in game one with the Terps.

GAME ONE

Rutgers opened the doubleheader with a come-from-behind victory over Maryland. After falling behind 5-2, the Scarlet Knights registered four uncontested runs to claim the win.

In her initial trip to the plate, freshman Sierra Maddox (Kennesaw, Ga.) put RU on the board first with a home run to center field.

Maryland then countered with a homer of its own from Lindsey Schmeiser to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third. However, in RU's half of the frame, junior Stephanie Huang(Paramus, N.J.) led things off with a double, followed by a move up to third on a wild pitch. Huang would then return the lead to RU, crossing home on a passed ball.

The Terps responded with a four-run inning, ignited by a lead-off homer from Shannon Bustillos. The rally kept rolling as UMD added four runs on five hits to generate a 5-2 edge. However, Landrith sent the final batter down swinging to keep the game in reach.

As Landrith held the Terps scoreless, RU showed its resilience adding two uncontested runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings. With the score now at 5-4, the senior lefty worked a 1-2-3 inning in the opening half of the seventh to give the RU offense one last shot at victory.

Following a double from senior Chandler Howard (North Wilmington, Del.) and a walk from Bates, junior Jordan Whitley (Clayton, Del.) notched an RBI single, sending Howard across to tie the game, 5-5. Up next, classmate Melanie Slowinski (Severn, Md.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Freshman Rebecca Hall (Fairfax, Va.) did not back down with a 1-2 pitch count as she was hit by a pitch to send the winning run in.

Landrith (14-8) tossed a complete game in the victory becoming Rutgers all-time wins leader with 66 career victories in the books.

GAME TWO

Rutgers needed only five innings to work with in the second contest, claiming an 11-3 victory over Maryland.

Maryland jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first frame. Corey Schwartz registered a two-run home run to start things off for the Terps, as Erin Pronobis followed with a homer of her own. With a 3-0 score in UMD's favor, sophomore Shayla Sweeney (Barrington, N.J.) entered the circle for RU. The right-hander coaxed a double play to end the top of the first with no further damage.

Following a double from Howard, Bates notched an RBI single to send her teammate across, while she advanced to second on the throw. Up next, Whitley notched another base hit for RU. With Slowinski at the plate, Whitley made an attempt to steal second. As the Terps took a shot at catching her, Bates capitalized on the moment by stealing home. RU successful registered a double steal with the play and made it a one-run contest, 3-2, in the opening inning.

Sweeney remained strong in the circle, holding the Terps scoreless in the top half of the second.

The Scarlet Knights used the momentum from their pitcher as they countered with a six-run inning to claim the lead. A two-run homer from Howard kicked things off as RU moved in front, 4-3. Slowinksi added another run to RU's tally with an RBI single. It was Hall who capped things off, belting a long ball over the left field fence to bring in three runs, extending the Scarlet Knight advantage to 8-3.

Despite surrendering a two-out double to the Terps in the next inning, Sweeney induced a fly out to hold Maryland scoreless.

Rutgers registered back-to-back RBI doubles from sophomore Carly Todd (Deptford, N.J.) and Sierra Maddox to cushion its edge, 10-3 in the fourth inning. Sweeney backed up the offense, denying any runners across for UMD in the top of the fifth.

A walk from Bates followed by an RBI double from Whitley sealed the win, 11-3, after only five innings of play.

Sweeney (5-2) registered four scoreless innings and allowed only two hits in her second Big Ten victory.
