(Dover, Del.) – Looking to rebound from a 5-25 (2-13 MEAC) mark last season, the Delaware State women’s basketball team were picked to finish 13th (57 points) in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Preseason Poll, whereas forward Amber Bogard received Third Team All-MEAC honors.

The Lady Hornets are set to return seven letterwinners from last season, while welcoming five newcomers. Appearing in all 30 games last season, including 24 starts, Bogard finished second on DSU in scoring (13.1 ppg) and field goal percentage (.503). Bogard also led the Lady Hornets in total blocks (36), in addition to setting a school single-game record for most blocks (7) in DSU’s season-ending double digit loss to No. 4 Norfolk State in the MEAC Tournament.

A new, yet familiar face in Barbara Burgess enters her first season as the head coach for her alma mater, after spending the previous six seasons as an assistant coach MEAC powerhouse Hampton. Listed as one of two players in DSU all-time history to total at least 1700 points, 800 rebounds and 70 blocks, Burgess (1985-89) will look to turn around a program that has gone 11-37 in MEAC play and 23-67 overall the past three seasons.

North Carolina A&T totaled 310 points and 10 first-place votes to earn the top spot. Last year, the Aggies finished third in the conference with a 12-4 mark and a 20-11 overall record. The Aggies return three starters from last year’s team with the addition of four newcomers.

Hampton was picked to finish second with 307 points and 10 first-place votes. The Lady Pirates recorded a 19-13 overall record and a 14-2 mark in MEAC play. Hampton received a bid to the Women’s NIT last season and defeated Drexel, 45-42, in the opening round before concluding the season with a loss to West Virginia in the second round.

Maryland Eastern Shore (259 points) received three first-place votes and was predicted to finish third, while Savannah State (239) - the 2015 MEAC Tournament champions - garnered one first-place vote and Norfolk State (225 points) rounded out the top five preseason predictions.

Bethune-Cookman was chosen to finish sixth, followed by Coppin State (180 points), South Carolina State (162 points), Morgan State (138 points), Florida A&M (119 points), Howard (89 points), North Carolina and Central (69 points).

Crowned as the MEAC Player of the Year, meanwhile, was Hampton standout Malia Tate-DeFreitas.

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will tipoff the regular season at West Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Fri, October 16, 2015
(Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) – The Delaware State women’s soccer team (6-8-1) not only continued its winning ways Friday evening with a 2-0 road triumph over the Marist Red Foxes (5-9-1), but it was the program’s fourth in a row, setting a new school record for most consecutive victories.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our team here tonight,” said head coach Kerri Scroope, who extended her career win total to 13. “We came out very aggressive from the jump and it carried over for the rest of the game. This was a total team win.”

Friday night’s ending result for DSU also set a record for most road wins in a season (3), while closing within one victory of tying a school record most wins in a season overall.

Controlling the pace throughout, the Hornets scored with just over three minutes gone by, as forward Taylor Addison (2) put it past Marist goalkeeper Ashley Houghton (1-7). With this strike, the senior out of Mount Vernon, N.Y. moved into second on DSU’s all-time list for most goals (8), in addition to fourth place for most career points (18).

Fellow senior Danielle Valente (2), meanwhile, made it a 2-0 contest during the 23rd minute with a header goal. Team wise, Valente’s strike set a new single-season mark for most goals (23).

At game’s end, the Hornets finished with nine shots, led by Addison’s three attempts. DSU’s Michele Lammers (6-8-1), on the other hand, collected five saves to secure her third-straight shutout victory. Lammers has also surrendered just one goal throughout the squad’s four-game winning streak, occurring in DSU’s 2-1 win at home over Mount St. Mary’s on Sept. 27.

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will look to extend their winning streak this Sunday afternoon (1 p.m.) at LIU Brooklyn.

SOCCER: HORNETS WRAP UP REGULAR SEASON WITH A SCORELESS TIE AT HOWARD
Courtesy DSU Athletic Media Relations
Wed, October 28, 2015
(Washington, D.C.) – The Delaware State women’s soccer team (6-9-3) wrapped up the 2015 regular season Wednesday night settling for its second consecutive scoreless tie, this time on the road with the Howard Bison (11-7-1).

With this tie, the Hornets moved to 3-14-1 all-time against HU, whereas Wednesday night’s tie snapped a four-game winning streak for the Bison.

Throughout the evening, Howard lived up to its calling card on the offensive end, totaling 22 shots, including 11 in the second period. Coming in, the Bison had 62 goals under their belts, compared to 24 for the Hornets.

Nevertheless, DSU was able to keep the Bison scoreless for the fourth time this season, led by goalkeeper Michele Lammers (6-9-3) collecting eight saves. With this effort, Lammers pushed her yearly shutout total to four, tying Tara McQueene and Katelyn Koslosky for most in DSU single-season history.

Offensively the Hornets, meanwhile, featured forward Bri Musco registering three out of her squad’s seven shots, including two placed on-goal. Delaware State was also held scoreless for the ninth time this season.

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will head Florence, S.C. to defend their Independent Conference Tournament crown this weekend as the top seed, beginning with the Hampton Pirates on Friday at 4 p.m. Depending on the outcome, DSU will play the winner or loser of Francis Marion and South Carolina State Sunday afternoon.

THE GAME
Delaware State tips off the 2015-16 season at home against the University of Delaware in a battle between the state’s two Division I men’s basketball programs. The new-look Hornets must replace the core of its 2014-15 squad, which advanced to the MEAC Tournament championship game and competed in the post-season College Basketball Invitational for the first time. Among the losses from last season are the 2014-15 MEAC Player-of-the-Year AND Defensive Player-of–the-Year (Kendall Gray), the MEAC’s leading scorer (Amere May), the school’s No. 3 all-time three-point shooter (Tyshawn Bell) and the team’s assist leader (Kendal Williams). The 2015-16 Hornets feature seven letterwinners from last season, led by top returning scorer DeAndre Haywood (jr.; guard), who averaged 6.3 points per game a year ago. Among the other returners expected to play bigger roles this season are guard/forward Todd Hughes (so;), who averaged 5.4 ppg, highlighted by a 19-point performance in the MEAC Tournament as a freshman last season, swingman Kavon Waller (3.6 ppg); and center/forward Mrdjan Gasevic (jr.). Among the newcomers are three junior college transfers and two players-of-the-year in their respective high school conferences.

Delaware returns 12 letterwinners, including four starters from its 2014-15 squad. Heading the list is Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team selection and top returning scorer Kory Holden (so.), who averaged 12.4 points and dished a team-high 144 assists to earn CAA All-Rookie honors last season. Fellow guard Cazmon Hayes averaged 11.4 points and knocked down 50 three-pointers a year ago, while forward Marvin King-Davis contributed 9.7 points, while hitting 51.5% from the field during the 2014-15 campaign. Delaware has been picked to finish fifth in the 10-team 2015-16 CAA race.

DSU vs. DELAWARE SERIES HISTORY (UD leads 11-4)
The Hornets have won two of the last three meetings, although the Hens hold an 11-4 lead in the series. Delaware State led from start to finish in a 65-53 win the last time the teams met on Dec. 7, 2014 at UD’s Bob Carpenter Center. It was the Hornets’ largest margin of victory in the series. DSU led 32-21 at the break and held its biggest lead, 47-28, after a three-pointer with 14:14 left to play. Kendall Gray had 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Hornets in the contest. Kory Holden and Chivarsky Corbett led the Hens with 15 points each. The last time the teams met at Delaware State, UD pulled out an 80-70 victory on Nov. 25, 2013. Delaware State won the first meeting between the teams in 1991. Delaware won the next eight games from 1992 to 2000. The teams did not meet from 2001 to '08. The road team has won the last four games in the series. DSU is seeking its first two-game win streak in the series. UD holds a 6-1 lead vs. the Hornets in Memorial Hall.

MBB: SECOND HALF COLLAPSE DOOMS HORNETS IN SEASON-OPENING LOSS TO HENS
Courtesy DSU Athletic Media Relations
Fri, November 13, 2015
Dover, Del. (Nov. 13, 2015) --- Delaware State led by as many 15 points in the second half, but was outscored 28-7 in the final 14-and-half minutes of a 62-56 loss to Delaware in the season opener for both teams in Memorial Hall Friday evening.

The Hens improved to 7-1 all-time in Memorial Hall to open up a 12-4 lead in the series between the state’s two Division I programs. The road team has won the last five games in the series.

“Delaware was the more experienced team, and it showed in the second half,” said DSU head coach Keith Walker. “I was pleased with our effort in the first half, but our execution was lacking after the break. It’s going to take some time for the guys to jell as a team, but I’m optimistic about our prospects for the season.”

Marvin King-Davis led four Delaware players in double-figures with 13 points. He also led all players with 12 rebounds. Cazmon Hayes and Chivarsky Corbett tallied 12 points each, while reserve Devonne Pinkard added 10 for the Hens.

Freshman guard Devin Morgan came off the bench to lead the balanced Hornets with 10 points, all in the first half, in his first collegiate contest. DeAndre Haywood and newcomer Joe Lewis scored seven points each for DSU. Eleven of the 13 players who appeared for the Hornets scored in the contest.

The Hornets shot 15-for-32 in the first half (46.9%), including seven-of-18 from three-point territory, en route to a 37-31 lead at the break.

Delaware State started quickly in the second half, scoring 12 of the first 15 points, to open up its biggest lead. Todd Hughes (six points) capped off the rally with a nifty reverse lay-up to give the Hornets a 49-34 lead with 14:28 left to play.

Delaware answered with a 13-3 run, and pulled to within 52-47 on a on a three-pointer by Hayes with 6:53 left to play.

The Hens completed the comeback when Corbett scored on a tip-in to give the visitors a 55-54 lead at the 4:28 mark of the second half. After Delaware State came up empty on its next two possessions, Pinkard nailed a three-pointer to give Delaware a 58-54 lead with 2:26 remaining.

Delaware State missed each of its five shots, while Delaware hit four free throws to open up a 62-54 lead.

The Hornets hit just nine of their 32 second half shots (28.1%), including one-of-11 from behind the arc, after the break.

DSU was outrebounded 44-29 and was outscored 16-0 at the free throw line. The Hens were 16-for-23 at the stripe, while the Hornets missed their only two free throw attempts of the game.

The Hornets will return to action on Tuesday (Nov. 17) with a home contest against the University of Pennsylvania. Game time is 7 p.m. The Quakers will try to avenge a 77-75 overtime loss to DSU in the first meeting between the teams last season.

Our defensive effort was also outstanding at times in the game.”

Fri, November 20, 2015
(Pittsburgh, Pa.) – The Delaware State women’s basketball team (0-3) stayed within striking distance throughout most of Friday night’s road contest against the heavily favorite Pitt Panthers (3-0), but the Lady Hornets were outscored 22-2 in the fourth quarter on their way to falling, 77-43.

With this defeat, DSU dropped its 12th in a row dating back to last season, whereas the Panthers are off to their first 3-0 start since 2009-10.

Trailing 34-24 at the break, guard Mikah Aldridge drained one of her team-high two 3-pointers to open the third quarter for the Lady Hornets. Pitt, meanwhile, answered with a 9-0 run, capped off by forward Kalista Walters converting with a fastbreak layup to make it a 43-27 contest at the 7:05 mark. The Lady Hornets managed to get the deficit back to 14, after forward Amber Bogard sank back-to-back free throws for the final points of the quarter for both squads.

Nevertheless, Pitt reeled off 10 unanswered points to begin the fourth, as every bucket was scored in the paint. The Panthers went on to score 16 out of their 22 points in the paint during the final quarter, in addition to tallying 15 points off seven DSU turnovers. The lone basket for the Lady Hornets during the final 10 minutes came thanks to Bogard scoring down low to finish the night with a team-high 15 points (5-of-9) off the bench.

At game’s end, four Lady Panthers scored in double figures, led by freshman Walters pouring in 18 points (9-of-14). Guard Breanna Wise – also a freshman – nearly registered a double-double with 14 points (5-of-12) and nine boards, including pulling down six on the offensive end. For Delaware State, it struggled to find its groove on the offensive end shooting just 32 percent (16-of-50) from the field, along with committing 26 turnovers.

The Columbia Blue & Red will return home to face Lehigh next Monday evening at 7 p.m. This will be the first meeting the two programs.

SUBJECT: University of Delaware Falls at Boston College, 69-61, Despite Career Night From Holden
DATE: December 19, 2015

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Blue Hen sophomore guard Kory Holden scored a career-high 35 points but Delaware struggled from the field in the second half as UD fell at Boston College, 69-61, Saturday night at Conte Forum.

Holden drained 6 of 13 three-point attempts and went 5 of 6 from the free throw line while eclipsing his previous career-best by eight points for Delaware, which dropped to 5-4 on the season. Cazmon Hayes contributed 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Marvin King-Davis chipped in with seven points and Skye Johnson tied his career-best with eight boards.

Boston College senior Eli Carter posted a double-double for the Eagles (5-6) with 20 points and 10 assists, while Matt Milon contributed 12 points off the bench. Meznieks Ervins added 10 points for Boston College, while Dennis Clifford notched eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.

Holden poured in 22 points while Hayes added 13 as the duo accounted for all of the Blue Hens’ 35 first half points and helped Delaware take a 35-32 lead into the break. But the Eagles responded with a 7-0 run in the opening minutes of the second half, going in front 41-37 on a layup by Jerome Robinson, and led the rest of the way.

Holden beat the shot clock with a tough three-pointer to make it a one-point game with 15:25 to play but Delaware hit just one of its next 14 field goal attempts, as the Eagles opened up a 51-42 margin following a three-point play by Milon. A layup by Holden later made it a 52-47 game, but Carter and Milon countered with consecutive three-pointers to give Boston College a double digit lead at 58-47 and force a UD timeout with 5:21 remaining.

Holden countered with a circus layup and a deep three-pointer to cut the deficit to six, but the Eagles answered with a 7-0 run and were not threatened from there.

Delaware shot just 30.6 percent from the field for the contest, including only 9 of 32 in the second half. The Blue Hens remained in the game due to a 15 of 20 performance from the foul line and a 42-34 rebounding advantage over the Eagles, including 13 to 2 on the offensive glass.

“Kory was fantastic tonight, we’ve just got to get some more from our other guys,” said Blue Hen head coach Monté Ross. “It’s very difficult to win on the road when you only score 61 points. We fought and battled and out-rebounded them, so we were playing hard, we just weren’t very efficient. We had a tough night but we have to pick ourselves up and get ready for Villanova.”

Boston College reeled off 10 consecutive points early in the first half, taking a 16-7 lead on A.J. Turner’s third triple of the game five and an half minutes in. But Delaware used a seven-point spurt of its own to close within 18-16, while consecutive three-pointers by Hayes and Holden pulled the Blue Hens even at 25-25 and forced a Boston College timeout at the 7:21 mark.

Hayes then added another triple to put Delaware in front, and the Blue Hens led for the rest of the period. UD went up as many as six points, the second time at 35-29 following two Holden free throws, before a Carter three-pointer brought Boston College within three at the break.

Delaware travels to 12th-ranked Villanova on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a game that will be televised by Fox Sports 1.

Game Notes:
• Holden’s point total was the highest by a Blue Hen since Davon Usher scored 42 vs. Charleston on Feb. 5, 2014
• UD has lost 22 of its last 23 games against ACC opponents
• Boston College has won two straight following a six-game losing streak
• UD was playing the third contest in a six-game stretch of road games
• Delaware won the rebounding battle for the eighth time in nine games
• Boston College held a 14-0 advantage in bench points
• UD will be back in Boston on Jan. 7 to face Northeastern

Sat, December 19, 2015
Phila., Pa. (Dec. 19, 2015) --- The Delaware State men’s basketball team gave Temple all it could handle for most of the game, but it was not enough as the Owls prevailed 78-63 at the Liacouras Center this afternoon to keep the Hornets winless this season.

The Hornets led by seven points in the first half and cut an 11-point deficit to two early in the second half before running out of gas.

Quenton Decosey led Temple with 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while teammate Josh Brown added 14 points, highlighted by eight-for-eight shooting at the free throw line.

DeAndre Haywood scored a season-high 21 points on his 21st birthday to lead the Hornets. Haywood was eight-for-14 from the field, and also led DSU with four assists. He has 35 points in the last two games to lead the Hornets in scoring at 10.1 points per game this season.

Haywood’s career-high is 23 points at Pennsylvania during the 2014-15 season.

Freshman guard Devin Morgan reached double-figures in scoring for the second straight game, adding 13 points for the Hornets.

Todd Hughes came off the bench for the first time this season to tally a season-high 13 points, while sophomore forward Dana Raysor contributed 11 points, his high as a Hornet. Raysor led all players with nine in the first half.

“I can’t complain about our effort against a good Temple team in its building,” said Delaware State head coach Keith Walker. “It’s frustrating for the guys that such an effort didn’t result in a win, but we are making progress. We have two games left against major opponents (Dec. 22 at Utah; Dec. 28 at Texas Christian) that I hope will further prepare us for our MEAC schedule beginning in a couple of weeks.

The Hornets started quickly, scoring 10 straight points, including seven by Raysor, to open up a 10-3 lead. He capped off the rally with a three-pointer at the 14:52 mark of the first half.

Temple answered with a 10-2 run, and pulled ahead 13-12 on two free throws by Devin Coleman with 12 minutes remaining in the half.

Hughes had a basket and Scott Sill nailed a three-pointer on consecutive possessions to give the Hornets a 17-13 lead.

DSU led 23-19 before Temple started a late first-half run. The Owls outscored the Hornets 16-4 in the final 5:26 of the half to hold a 35-27 lead at the break.

The Hornets started another rally after trailing 39-28 early in the second half.

Temple responded by scoring 12 of the next 14 points to regain control. Daniel Dingle hit two free throws at the 11:23 mark of the second half to give the Owls a 51-39 lead.

DSU pulled to within eight points on two occasions in the next five minutes, but could get no closer the rest of the way.

Temple shot 35.5% for the game, connecting on 22-of-62 shots overall from the field, and just four-of-27 from beyond the arc (14.8%).

The Owls won the rebound battle 48-33. The Hornets have been outrebounded in each game this season. Temple had 21 offensive boards, resulting in 17 points.

Free throws were also a factor in the game. Temple was 30-for-38 (78.9%) at the line, while DSU attempted 23 free throws, hitting 16 (69.6%).

The Owls scored 22 points off 15 Delaware State turnovers. Temple turned the ball over nine times, leading to 13 points for the Hornets.

Temple won for the fourth time in the last six games to improve to 5-5 this season, while the Hornets are 0-11.

The Hornets return to action on Tuesday (Dec. 22) on the road against first-time opponent Utah. Game time is 9 p.m. Eastern in Salt Lake City, UT. The Utes defeated No. 7 Duke 77-75 in overtime at Madison Square Garden in New York today.

SUBJECT: University of Delaware Women's Basketball Falters at Bucknell, 80-51

DATE: December 20, 2015

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell took an early lead and never looked back Sunday afternoon as the University of Delaware women's basketball squads fell, 80-51, at Sojka Pavilion.
The Bison (6-4) held Delaware (4-5) to no more than 13 points in each quarter while averaging 20 points per on their own. The Blue Hens did outscore Bucknell, 13-12, in the final quarter of play.
Senior Courtni Green (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) led the Hens to 11 points with two steals and an assist while redshirt sophomore Sadé Chatman (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central) notched 10 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots.
Jacquie Klotz registered a game-high 25 points with five 3-pointers to go along with nine rebounds and five assists. Claire DeBoer added 17 points and seven rebounds.
“Today was a very bad day. We hung our heads and pouted when things got tough," said Delaware head coach Tina Martin. "This team is capable of playing better than we played today. It’s frustrating because we didn't come out with fight and we’re just not mentally tough enough right now. We need people to step up as leaders on this team. I have to hand it to Bucknell though; they shared the ball and shot lights out. They were certainly the better team.”

The Opponent

» Cornell Big Red (7-6)

After reeling off back-to-back wins with victories over Cal State Fullerton (Dec. 21) and Binghamton (Dec. 30), Cornell was denied its second three-game winning streak with a loss at Howard last Saturday. Holding a 6-1 record at home, the Big Red’s offensive attack features the forward tandem ofNia Marshall (17.3 ppg) and Nicolle Aston (10.8 ppg). Marshall is also Cornell’s leader in steals (27), blocks (13), field goal percentage (.495) and free throws made (42), whereas Aston is second in rebounds per game (6.8) behind guard Maddie Campbell (7.2). From long distance, guards Caroline Shelquist (21) and Megan LeDuc (15) lead the way in 3-pointers made, respectively. Head coach Dayna Smith (146-224), the winningest head coach in program history, is in her 14th season. Her tenure is highlighted by 22 All-Ivy honorees, including one Ivy League Player of the Year award and one All-America selection.

The Series

DSU is 1-2 all-time against the Big Red. In their last meeting, the Lady Hornets suffered a 70-56 loss at home all the way back on Jan. 20, 1993. DSU’s lone win came by way of a 76-64 win at home in the fifth game of the 1991-92 season.

A Win Would Mean…

» DSU would avoid a third consecutive road loss.

» Delaware State’s second win away from Memorial Hall this season.

» The Hornets’ first victory during an evening time slot this season.

Last Time Out…

A forgettable first half for DSU, headlined by being held to 17 points on a dismal 15 percent (6-of-39) shooting, turned out to be the difference last Wednesday at home, as the visiting Hofstra Pride (9-2) cruised to a 66-49 victory. With this loss, DSU failed to register back-to-back wins for the first time this season, in addition to seeing its two-game home winning streak snapped. Hofstra, meanwhile, has now won five out of its last six heading into conference play, which begins this Sunday afternoon (2 p.m.) at home against Delaware.

Who’s Hot?

Guard Mikah Aldridge is averaging 14.9 points per contest in her last seven games, despite being held scoreless against Hofstra… Forward Amber Bogard has tallied double figures in the scoring column the last five games (11.8 ppg)… Forward NaJai Pollard has totaled at least 10 points and five rebounds in her last four games… In her lone three games this season, guard Aaliyah Davis is averaging 7.3 points per game, including shooting 50 percent (4-of-8) from long distance… Guard Bri Justice has scored in double figures in back-to-back games for the first time of her career, along with going 5-for-9 (.555) from 3-point range.

Milestone Watch

Senior N’Kayah Kersey is five away from reaching 80 career 3-pointers… Senior Amber Bogard istwo shy of 50 career blocks as a Lady Hornet… Sophomore Mikah Aldridge is five 3-pointers away from reaching 60 for her career… Senior Nikkei Blackburn is 14 away from reaching 200 career rebounds.

At This Point Last Season…

The Lady Hornets were 1-11, coming off a 64-56 loss at home Morgan State.

Coming Up Next…

The Columbia Blue & Red will open up Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play at Morgan State this afternoon (2 p.m.). Last season, DSU dropped its lone matchup to the Bears with a 64-56 home loss.

Sat, January 09, 2016
Baltimore, Md. (Jan. 9, 2016) --- Delaware State cut a 17-point second half deficit to four in the closing seconds, but could get no closer in a 63-58 loss to Morgan State in the Hornets’ MEAC opener at Hill Field House today.

The loss overshadowed a career performance by DSU freshman guard Devin Morgan, who scored a career-high 27 points, including 18 in the second half, to lead all players. Morgan’s point total marked a single-game high for the Hornets this season. He was 10-for-10 at the free throw line to improve to 89.7% for the season (26-for-29).

Morgan State scored the first 10 points of the game and never trailed to snap a nine-game losing streak. The Bears improved to 3-12 overall and 1-1 in the MEAC.

The Hornets fell to 1-14 overall.

Delaware State was down by as many as 14 points in the first half and trailed 32-20 at the break.

The Hornets trailed 59-47 after a Morgan State basket at the 3:42 mark of the second half.

The Hornets return to action on Monday (Jan. 11) with a MEAC home contest against Howard. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., following the DSU/Howard women’s game.

SUBJECT: University of Delaware All-American Punter Eric Enderson to Forgo Final Season to Pursue Pro Career

DATE:  January 11, 2016

NEWARK, Del. -- Eric Enderson, one of the nation’s most productive punters over the last three seasons and one of the team’s most popular players, announced Monday that he will forgo his final year of college eligibility to pursue a professional career.

Enderson, a native of Hampton, Va. (Phoebus High School), has already completed graduation requirements at Delaware. He will take the next several months to train full-time with kicking coaches and prepare himself for a free agent opportunity in the National Football League.

“We are disappointed that Eric won’t be with us in 2016, but I am excited for him and his family to have this opportunity to pursue his dream of being a punter in the National Football League,” said Delaware head coach Dave Brock. “Eric has been everything one could hope for as a member of the Blue Hen football family. He was an All-American player, an elite student who earned his degree in three and a half years, and one of the most involved players in the community that I’ve been associated with as a college coach. We wish him nothing but the best.”

“Leaving Delaware a year early was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make,” said Enderson, who carries a 3.3 cumulative grade point average and had nearly a 4.0 gpa during the recently completed fall semester. “Over the last four years being a part of this football team, I’ve made my best friends, made memories that will last forever, and experienced what it really means to be a Blue Hen. The opportunity that I was able to experience here has been everything that I could have ever asked for in college, and for that I am so grateful. I can leave UD with no regrets and truly believe that I gave everything I had in the four years I was here. I hope that I am not only leaving Delaware as one of the best punters to ever come through, but also as one of the best teammates and an even better person. Delaware has shaped me into the person I am today and I wouldn’t trade my experience here for anything else in the world. The support from the fans, the impact we have on the community, and the brand that we represent is second to none. Coach Brock and all of the assistant coaches have been everything I could ask for as coaches but also as mentors.

“Over the last month or so I have really tried to analyze the possibilities for myself moving forward,” said Enderson. “It has led to countless hours of researching, talking with my family, and stepping back and really thinking everything through. I finally came to my decision to take my shot at the next level and move on from this part of my life. I am hoping to work towards a chance at playing in the NFL and follow that up with law school.”

Enderson earned the starting punter position during the preseason in Brock’s first season at Delaware in 2013 and has been one of the nation’s top punters ever since.

He was a two-time All-American, earning honorable mention honors by the College Sporting News in 2013 and second team College Sports Madness, third team Associated Press, and fourth team Beyond Sports Network honors in 2014.
